Tempe gets called to what seems like an easy job but ends up in the middle of missing person case in Turks and Caicos. Not how you take an impromptu vacation... By the way, I love Kathy Reichs!

An enjoyable installment in the Tempe Brennan series, this one set in the exotic location of Turks and Caicos. Lots of disparate cases and details that may or may not be connected swirl about.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book. Read this if you like this series, simple as that! It was nice to get a change in pace of scenery for this one, but the plot definitely felt like it was at the outer edge of plausibility.

This was an interesting plot once it was revealed what was happening. The beginning didn't seem to have a whole lot to do with the ending and there were a couple of conveniently tied loose ends. I like this character and the back story of her lover. The settings also add a nice element as I don't read another series quite like it. The Turks and Caicos was a beautiful setting but marred by murder. Series followers won't want to miss this and its a good outing as a stand alone.

Another great one from Kathy Reichs. Never disappoint and always a creative storyline. Love the characters. Keep them coming.

When I finished the tv show “Bones” and found out there was a book series, I started collecting so fast. Being able to dive into this world makes me feel so connected to the characters from the tv show still and I love that.

I love getting to read about Tempe in action and the storyline of novel 22 in the series was no exception.

Kathy Reich's is back with the twenty-second installment in the Temperance Brennan series. In The Bone Hacker, Tempe is called to examine a body caught in a boat propeller. As per her usual thorough investigation, she follows the identification of an unusual tattoo to Turks and Caicos where she finds even more mysterious bodies but nothing to link them together. Tempe becomes embroiled in an investigation both intriguing and dangerous and soon finds her life in danger as well. You could start with Bone Hacker, but I would read the entire series. I enjoyed reading number 22 as much as the first. Can't wait for 23! Many thanks to Net Galley for the chance to read an ARC.

I enjoyed this book. I have been a fan of this series for many years. I haven’t read all of the installments just yet but I have picked up most of them. This book takes Temperance out of town to the Turks and Caicos islands. It seems that there is a killer target young attractive men, cutting off one of their hands before disposing of the bodies. Once Tempe gets to the islands, she is drawn into another case that is equally perplexing. I found this novel to be quite the page-turner.

Tempe spent the bulk of this installment working the case of the local detectives. She does spend some time doing forensic anthropology, of course, but I felt like the bulk of the story was set away from the lab. The mysteries kept me guessing and I loved getting to know the characters on the islands. I found the pacing of the book to be well done, although I did feel that the ending seemed a bit rushed. All in all, this was an entertaining mystery.

I would recommend this book to others. This is the twenty-second novel in the long-running Temperance Brennan series but it would work well as a stand-alone since the mystery is completely contained in this book. I cannot wait to read more of this well-written series!

I received a review copy of this book from Scribner.

I received an ARC copy from #Netgalley.

I enjoyed the story, but there was a lot going on in this one. There were a lot of random story threads & random characters popping up, making it hard to keep track of everyone. The final reveal of the killer was kind of disappointing, but it did tie everything up.

I thoroughly enjoy the Temperance Brennan series and the thought provoking ways we can learn about those who have passed away through forensic anthropology. Here, through a death in Canada, she meets an inspector from the Turks and Caicos Islands who needs help with some mysterious bodies, each very handsome men found murdered with their left hands removed. Tempe heads down to help and finds more than she bargained for when her new friend's small force is faced with some mysterious situations, like a boat full of dead people that seem to have starved to death after running out of gas. This is a great romp of a story with characters and writing i enjoy. The plot and whodunnit part is not challenging enough, but the why and the how is very engaging. Definitely recommend!

Predictably, Tempe is called in to help examine bones. After all, that’s her thing. This time one thing leads to another and she becomes involved in an investigation involving missing persons and unidentified remains in Turks and Caicos. The change of scenery (the Caribbean rather than Montreal or North Carolina), added to the appeal of the story and brought a different and interesting set of characters into place – specifically, the local police and detectives, with a different culture, mindset, and practices. As always, Tempe is open-minded and diligent in conducting her investigation; she weighs her options carefully and acts accordingly. The plot was intricate, with the requisite twists and turns, even though the eventual resolution of the mystery was not entirely a surprise to this reader. Nonetheless, fans of this series and readers fascinated by forensic science are sure to enjoy this book.

This is book #22 in the Temperance Brennan Series (can be read as a standalone). I have been devouring these books since 1997!! I think I’ve secretly always wanted to be Tempe Brennan ever since watching the TV show Bones. I’ve always been fascinated by the use of forensic anthropology in solving murder cases. So, this series indulges my wannabe-Tempe urges and allows me to try and solve the case alongside her. Having said that, I never seem to be able to predict how the person was murdered or who did it. I guess that’s why Tempe is the genius forensic anthropologist and why I keep reading all the books in the series!

• Kathy Reichs does an amazing job of creating unique and interesting cases for Tempe Brennan to solve.
• Brennan is asked to fly to the Turks and Caicos to help the police solve the mysterious death of a man who was thought to have been struck by lightning. However, as she investigates, she uncovers a much larger case with more bodies and more questions.
• The police force on the island doesn't have the same skills as Brennan, so she has to explain her techniques in great detail. This can be quite gruesome for those who are sensitive, but I find the details of forensic science fascinating.
• The plot is well-developed, the characters are believable, and there are plenty of clues to keep you guessing. I didn't see the twists and turns coming!
• Kathy Reichs is a forensic anthropologist in real life, which adds to the realism of her writing. She has worked on cases like the World Trade Center attacks and the Casey Anthony trial.
• If you enjoy crime thrillers, forensic science, or fast-paced reads with twists and turns, I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series.

• I had the pleasure of alternating between reading and listening to this book. Linda Emond does a phenomenal job of narrating this audiobook. She brings Tempe Brennan to life with her voice inflections and pacing. I was able to visualize the beautiful setting of the Turks and Caicos Islands as well as the gruesome details of the murders. I finished the audiobook in one day because I couldn't put it down!

Rating: 5/5
I received an eARC for my honest opinion.

I really do love this series so much, and every time that I get approved to read her eARC I jump around with happiness.

In this book you will be taken away from Montrel and go on an adventure with Tempe to the Turks and Caicos Islands. When you get there, you find yourself in yet another mystery, only this time it’s with two different detectives.

I thought the plot was well developed, it was fast-paced and just like her other books not an info dump but given to you throughout the book. I really enjoyed that this book was a little more about Tempe doing the detective thing again, but no worries you will still see bones in this book. I know that Reichs has written books like this in the series before and I love that it’s a little switch up between books because it’s not the same thing over and over. The characters of course were great.

I love the Tempe Brennan characters so much; from Ryan to Tempe, to Tempe’s sister to all the interesting characters that she meets along the way in the book. Tempe is one of my favorite characters in books that I have read. I like that is smart, but really does not rub it in, I love that she sometimes jumps into situations before thinking and learns to figure out how to get herself out of it. I loved that in this book you still get to see the badass female character that is smart, beautiful and knows her way around the crime scene. I do wish that we could have seen a little more of Ryan in this book, but I know that it's not all the time about Her and Ryan working together but they just work so well together.

This book could be read as a standalone, but I do not recommend it. You will be missing out on an amazing series.

I cannot wait to see what is next in store for Tempe.

I want to thank NetGalley and Scribner for the opportunity to review this book.

While I haven't read all the books in the series, I've read many of them. They can be read as standalones. Sadly, this wasn't my favorite. In general, I've found that I prefer the TV character Bones to the book character Bones. The book version comes across as a bit lackluster, even though I try to envision the TV actress while reading. Many parts were predictable, so the twists weren't much of a surprise. It seems like the author was trying to bring together two different storylines, and it just didn't work, as it just felt jumbled and confusing. Parts, including the ending, felt a bit rushed.

The twenty-second Temperance Brennan novel opens in the familiar territory of Montréal (I recently returned from a trip there, so many of the street and place names had a fresh familiarity). While investigating the remains of a presumptive lightning strike victim Tempe finds a tattoo that identifies the victim with possible gang activity in the Turks and Caicos Islands. She contacts the authorities there and is surprised when Detective Musgrove insists upon coming to Montréal to investigate the case in person.

It turns out that Musgrove has another agenda. She has been stumped by a series of apparent serial murders. Two of the victims have been recently discovered, and no one in the islands has Tempe's forensic expertise, so Musgrove extends an invitation. After a moment's hesitation Tempe accepts, so the final three-quarters of the story takes place on the islands: a fresh setting with a fresh set of characters.

As they are landing Musgrove receives news of another situation that could use Tempe's skills: a mysterious small boat, adrift with everyone aboard dead. Eventually, this turns out to be related to the serial investigation in a completely surprising way. Of course, this is only the first of many surprises. One obvious suspect after another is eliminated, but nothing prepares Tempe and her colleagues for the final resolution. Tempe becomes personally involved in the investigation (as usual) enough that her life is threatened (also as usual). Along with her partner Ryan and several planeloads of passengers! The story really piles on twists at the end, but the resolution is very satisfying.

Thanks to NetGalley for the Advance Reader's Copy.

The Bone Hacker is book 22 (!!!) in the Temperance Brennan series by Kathy Reichs and I just loved it. I look forward to reading a new installment every summer and (in the words of my sister) “not to be dramatic but I’m going to have a menty b” if I ever have to say goodbye to this world. So first and foremost, thank you to Kathy and the team at Scribner for keeping me in Bones books.

The Bone Hacker starts off with a BANG - or should I say, a BOLT - and draws you in right away. Overall, the story felt lighter on the bones and heavier on the detective work compared to other installments - not good or bad, just an observation and FYI for future readers. There are plenty of twists and turns, red herrings, and tiny clues sprinkled throughout, and of course, the ending is clever and satisfyingly neat.

Per usual, KR’s scene setting is phenomenal. She’s the queen (among murder mystery authors) of bringing her setting to life. From the soaring bridges of Montreal to the crystal blue waters of Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI), I felt like I was THERE. On a completely unrelated note, both Montreal and TCI are on my bucket list now 🙂

The only thing missing for me in The Boner Hacker is Ryan. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still in Tempe’s life and they’re in a really good place. BUT he’s not a huge presence in this installment and I missed him! We LOVE to see Tempe and Ryan doing so well and it was a bit unsatisfying for their time together in the story to be so limited. Note to the author - give us more Ryan!

*Thank you to Netgalley, Scribner, and Kathy Reichs for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

Kathy Reichs has and will forever be my favorite author. I can barely wait for each new Tempe book to be released. As such a huge fan, I have high hopes for each installation of the series, and with Bone Hacker, I was not disappointed in the slightest. If I could give this book six stars, I would, but I will have to settle for five. Like always, I’m ready for the next book!
I would like to thank NetGallery for providing me with an advanced copy!

Called in to examine what is left of a body struck by lightning, Tempe traces an unusual tattoo to its source and is soon embroiled in a much larger case. Young men—tourists—have been disappearing on the islands of Turks and Caicos for years. Seven years ago, the first victim was found in a strange location with both hands cut off; the other visitors vanished without a trace. But, recently, tantalizing leads have emerged and only Tempe can unravel them.

I enjoyed the mystery aspect of this installment and were it lead us. I only wish that we have had more Ryan and Tempe time. I love their chemistry and the time the have on page. The mystery took some twist and turns that I was not expecting and like always I was not able to guess what was going on until the end.

This is a series that I enjoyed and I think this was a wonderful installment and I cannot wait to see waht Kathy Reich does next with the story.

An interesting addition to a good series. Take a trip to T&C. Especially enjoyable if one has been there or has a desire to go. Many new characters add to this tale. It kept me guessing. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.

Thank you NetGalley and Scribner for an advanced readers copy of The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs.

I’ve been a fan of Reichs since her Déjà Dead, the 1st book in her Temperance Brennan series. This book was not for me. It took nearly 25% of it to get into the story. For me, the converging cases didn’t work. It was too long, too wordy and a bit inconceivable.

Pros: Tempe, a strong, smart and determined MC. Montreal and Turks & Caicos

Cons: the plots being forced to merge. Missing all our favorite characters normally included in the series.
