I love me some Tempe Brennan and Katy Reichs. I will always read one of her books! This latest installment did not disappoint! It had me hooked from the jump and I couldn't put the book down! I love that Tempe and Ryan are finally together officially! I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Once again Temperance Brennan is brought in to solve a mystery involving several bodies with the left hand missing. Instead of the usual Canadian and American travels, Temperance is brought to the Turks and Caicos to solve the mystery of the bodies. When her police friend is murdered, the mission takes on a new importance. Temperance was able to connect the dots to not only find the murderer but to also keep from being a victim herself. Although not as graphic as the previous novels, this installment was more enjoyable to read!

“The Bone Hacker” is the 22nd installment of the forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan series and the excellent quality and storytelling has remained steady since 1999. As long time readers know, Tempe divides her time between Montreal and Charlotte, but instead of Canadian snow or Old South charm, we get to see Dr. Brennan in a tropical setting in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI).

A bizarre case in Montreal has connections in TCI and the savvy police superintendent there, Tiersa Musgrove, sees an opportunity to coax the forensic anthropologist to the islands. There’s been a number of handsome vacationing missing young men (bad for tourism) and two sets of bones still are in situ waiting for an off-island expert. Tempe volunteers and a boat of dead men is also discovered ashore. Suddenly, Tempe has been caught up in serial killer territory and possibly bureaucratic coverups (gotta keep the tourists ignorant of bad things).
Kathy Reichs is as witty and clever as ever, producing an original and thrilling story with her star main character, who is strong, intelligent, decisive and worthy of this continuing series. 5 stars!

I sent this review in awhile ago. Always love these books, this one was no exception. Thanks netgally

I always enjoy Kathy Reichs and her Tempe stories.

Temperance Brennan is a forensic pathologist who works both in Quebec and North Carolina. This book starts out in Canada and then quickly moves to Turks and Caicos Islands. Everything else about the book is on par with any other Tempe story. She works on bones, is somehow part of the investigation, puts herself in danger and gets the bad guy in the end.

This one was a quick and easy book. As always, I tried to figure out who done it and was pleasantly surprised that this time it wasn't completely obvious and there was a little mix up with the final outcome. Nothing shocking but still unknown.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kathy Reichs is still going strong with her Temperance Brennan series, as our favorite forensic anthropologist has now found herself in Turks and Caicos investigating one potential murder, and then pulled into a whole other murder mystery. I love how Reichs paints a picture of every location Temperence goes to, and I love how she creates a cast of supporting characters that can range from quirky to maddening to sinister as hell. The mystery is pretty well done here, with a lot of details and twists and turns that felt tight and well crafted, and Tempe is still a very entertaining protagonist and detective with some really neat facts about forensic anthropology and all the science that comes with it. And it is still, of course, very accessible. And I am happy to report that I am officially a-okay withe lover interest Detective Ryan again. It took awhile for me to let go of my grudge, but they are once again pretty darn cute and in a good place.

THE BONE HACKER is another great entry to the Tempe Brennan series! I'm always happy to see a new book in this ongoing story, and it's still entertaining and engaging.

Forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan returns for the 22nd book. (I’ve read many but not all.) She divides her time between Montreal, Canada and Charlotte, NC. An investigation of bodies found in the water leads her to contact a Detective Musgrove from Turks and Turks and Caicos Islands. Musgrove invites her to the Islands and has his own investigation that he would like her help with. Once there more people end up dead on a boat. Of course the investigations may be related and may lead the investigators into harms way.

I enjoyed this adventure with Tempe. I missed her daughter Katy who is only there for a phone call or two. Also boyfriend Ryan is coming out of retirement to help with a special unit. But he is largely missing from this story as well. I think this can be read as a stand alone and it is a must read for fans of the series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner for the ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review.

Tempe is back, in another exciting case! I love that she leaves her usual haunts of North Carolina and Montreal for a more exotic location. Typical for Tempe, she gets caught in an intricate web of a serial killer, but this time she’s stuck on an island in the Caribbean. The location definitely ups the thrill factor, and leaves you wondering how she’s going to save herself and solve her mysteries! Certainly a fun summer read for any mystery fan, and definitely a must-read for fans of Reichs and Bones!

Kathy Reichs never disappoints. Even with her 22nd Temperance Brennan novel she never lets them get formulaic. Great characters, snappy dialogue, and a fast moving plot kept me turning the pages, chapter after chapter. i read the entire book in one setting. Highly recommended

Thanks to NetGalley and Scribner for an advanced reader copy.

This is another wonderful book by Kathy Reichs. Set in an exotic Caribbean location, Tempe Brennan finds herself in the middle of a complex situation when a young man is shot in Montreal with ties to Turks and Caicos. There are the usual well developed characters, and the usual gore (Tempe is, after all, a forensic anthropologist). What started out as some recovered body parts leads Tempe to multiple murders, several personal attacks, and a complicated set of seemingly unrelated odd events that She and a local Police Detective work hare to solve. Even the FBI has an interest in these cases - which could affect thousands. This page turner will keep you turning as each chapter ends with a cliff hanging surprise.

The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs
Release Date August 01, 2023

Characters: 5/5
Plot: 5/5
Pace: 5/5
Suspense: 5/5
Overall Enjoyment: 5/5

Another amazing book with my favorite character Tempe Brennan written by Kathy Reichs. I have had the pleasure of reading all of the books in this series and everyone of them is unique in their own way. Temperance has been called to consult in Turks Caicos where a body has turned up missing a hand. Several tourists have gone missing the same way and while they may seem to be linked, she is not so sure. Reichs has an uncanny ability to story tell about forensics and detailing scenery as she does in this book. Brilliant and unwavering, the book continues with the reader questioning who could pull this off and why. The ending brings it all together in an explosive way that you will not expect. If you love psychological thrillers with lots of forensics this is one for you.

5 out of 5 stars

Temperance heads to Turks and Caicos to resolve an issue in The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs.

"Dr. Brennan is asked to examine a crime scene in Turks and Caicos. She ends up becoming involved in the search for a serial killer after tying multiple victims together. Tempe becomes a target and discovers the FBI have information on a bigger problem - one that involves her partner Ryan - and has a ticking clock."

This story is more crime fiction than medical thriller. There is still the bone detail as in previous Brennan novels, but it's not as gruesome or as frequent. There's a lot of time spent looking for a killer with little hint about who it is. Normally you would expect a slow-burn of a story from that, but Reichs keeps throwing things at us to keep us invested in the story. The last twenty percent is pretty intense, especially with the FBI reveal.

Crime fiction fans, and previous readers of Dr. Brennan will enjoy this new book from Kathy Reichs.

The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs
Publish Date August 1, 2023 3.5⭐'s rounded up

I am a big fan of Kathy Reich's Temperance Brennan books. So when I saw book #22 on NetGalley of course I requested it, and was very excited to be approved to read an advanced copy.

Anthropologist Temperance Brennan is called upon to examine a body that was struck by lightening on the islands of Turks of Caicos, When Tempe notices an unusual tattoo she becomes entangled in a bigger case linking a number of missing persons on the island over the past seven years. While piecing the mystery together, the stakes are raised when someone she knows is killed and Tempe becomes the next target.

While I enjoy trying to solve the puzzles right along with Tempe, I felt this one was pretty obvious. I didn't necessarily guess the why or how, but the who wasn't really surprising. Even so, I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading another.

Another great book from Kathy Reich featuring Temperance Brennan. I always love a new Temperance Brennan novel. The Bone Hacker did not disappoint. How does once connect victims that don’t seem to have a connection. This case takes Temperance from Canada to Turks and Caicos. Filled with interesting characters and an intriguing crime. Definitely recommend.

This thriller starts out with Tempe working on a supposed body having been struck by lightning, bearing a tattoo that introduces her to a SO from the islands of Turks & Caicos (TCI). Detective Musgrove knows exactly who the tattoo belongs to and asks Tempe for help back on the islands.

Tempe agrees to help out and become embroiled in one island mystery after another. She begins by thinking she will be working on bones of 3 individuals found varying years apart with a left hand missing. When she arrives on the islands she and Detective Musgrove are alerted to a deserted boat with 5 dead passengers and must attend to that emergency first. So begins the mysteries that are developed in this wonderful book The Bone Hacker.
You have murders, adventure, espionage, possible terrorism, middle of the night break ins, and wonderful Tempeisms. That is my new phrase. This would be things Tempe says such as: "Is this dickhead in the system: Is she bat shit crazy; Bite me." To just show you a few. These would be things I would say which just makes me love the author even more.

Of course Tempe's life is put on the line as she refuses to just limit her input to anthropological endeavors. Not only does she pair up with Musgrove, but also with The Monck- the bionic handed detective. All to track down an elusive FBI agent possibly having gone rogue.

The story flows completely with no slow points and has brought me back to the wonderful world of Kathy Reichs. I have read her books for many years but I have taken a few years off. I am officially BACK ON! This is a GREAT book. Thank you Net Galley for the ARC & Poison Pen

I love, love, love the Temperance Brennan series!!! This next installment did not disappoint. This novel was a welcomed break from the typical locations of Quebec and North Carolina. I found some predictability in determining the murderer. Some aspects shocked me, and left me slightly confused as to what exactly they added to the novel. The involvement of the FBI seemed forced in order to explain how involved in IT one of the suspects was. I expected more involvement of Detective Andrew Ryan, as he and Tempe had worked out their relationship in the last novel. He seems like an afterthought this novel. Overall, this was a very enjoyable novel. Even with all this, I can not wait for the next Temperance Brennan novel!

I want to thank Netgalley and Scribner for an ARC of this book.

Temperance “Tempe” Brennan, a forensic anthropologist, has her hands full in Montreal working on a case involving dead babies, and another involving the victim of a lightning strike. When it’s determined that one of her cases has a connection to the Turks and Caicos, she contacts law enforcement there and is requested to make a trip there to help solve the murder of three young men over the course of several years, tourists to the area. There are a few suspects, not many clues, and several strange things going on.

While there, other bodies are found on a boat. When a local detective she had been working with ends up dead, Tempe finds herself in danger and isn’t sure who to trust. Why were the experienced boaters so far off course and out of gas, with a lack of supplies onboard for such a long trip?

Can Tempe and local detectives solve the murders of Detective Musgrove, who was lead on the case, and that of the three tourists, as well as figure out what happened to the individuals found on the boat after it was determined that nothing was wrong with the boat?

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I've been reading Kathy Reich's books for 20 years - she's one of the reasons I got a degree in anthropology. I used to wait anxiously for her next book to be published so that I could devour it. Unfortunately, I feel like her writing has stagnated. Maybe it's because I'm no longer an undergrad pursuing a degree in the same field as the books, but I no longer find them as engaging as they used to be. This book lacked passion, the story itself felt convoluted, and the ending felt abrupt.

I loved the TV show Bones when it was running on TV, and I love this book series as well. Temperance has a knack for getting herself into trouble, but they always get to the bottom of things in the end. This book was filled with twists and turns and kept you guessing until the end. I found it to be a fast, enjoyable read, similar to others in the series.
