Kathy Reichs will always be one of my tried and true authors. The Tempe books can be read as standalones as Reichs always provides amazing character development.

This one started a little slow for me, but once I got in, I was hooked!

Thanks NetGalley, Kathy Reichs & Scribner for allowing me to read this fantastic book!

Another well-crafted installment in this entertaining crime thriller series.

How appropriate to read and review this ARC while in the midst of watching the show "Bones" from start to finish. I'm on Season 11 and can't help but shake my head as the characters on television are only loosely based on those in these books. And by that I mean, the books are so much better! In fact, I really like Tempe a whole lot more on paper.

I'm a real sucker for medical details of any kind and I love that about this series. Since the author knows her field, it translates to excellent clinical descriptions. The main plot of this one grabs immediately -- Tempe is examining bones thought to be related to the disappearances of young, good-looking men on the islands of Turks and Caicos. The only thing the men have in common is that they came to this Caribbean paradise and vanished. In addition, Tempe rides along with a local detective to a really strange death scene: a luxury boat is floating near shore about 600 miles off course and all of the passengers are dead. Nothing is wrong with the boat's systems. None of the victims has obvious injuries. As usual, there are several different tracks of investigation going on and Tempe gets involved.

I always look forward to a new installment in the series, this being one of the few that I still try to keep up with. Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner for this e-book ARC to read, review, and recommend.

Sure, you could read this as a standalone, but why? Try the previous 21 first!

I started reading Kathy Reichs’ latest Temperance Brennen novel on the same day the story begins, June 29, and on into July. Tempe starts out in Montreal working with a body that can be traced back to the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI). A TCI Detective Tiersa Musgrove travels to Canada with respect to the deceased, but really, she wants Tempe’s help with a serial killer in the islands – a killer who severs the left hand off of his/her young, attractive, male victims.

While in TCI, Dr. Brennan gets involved in a mysterious fishing boat case, where all the passengers and crew die of hunger and exposure, despite functioning cell phones and the boat in working order. Why didn’t they summon help? Then a visiting FBI agent, who is also investigating the serial murders, goes missing. Are these events connected?

I wouldn’t consider this the best in the series, but it more than met expectations. It provided refreshment over a hot, humid Fourth of July weekend. (By the way, Tempe says Independence Day is her favorite American holiday. Why? There’s no feast to prepare.)
Thanks to NetGalley for providing an advance copy of the book.

In this book, Tempe visits a beautiful Caribbean Island where murder is on the agenda. Officer Musgrove needs Tempe's help. Musgrove is pretty sure a serial killer has chosen her home as his hunting ground. She needs Tempe's skills to prove it. As the book unfolds there is a lot more than murder running rampant on this glorious island. Stay tuned for more intrigue and adventure.

Tempe has been called into another case. This one involves a person struck by lightning. She does her due diligence in her investigation and suddenly finds herself looking into a much larger case that goes back many years. The victims don’t seem to have anything in common … except where their bodies were found. Were these random victims? Were they connected to the local gang violence? What will others do to keep Tempe from the truth?

The Bone Hacker is the twenty-second book in the Temperance Brennan series. With so many homicide and medical examiner thrillers available now (not counting the other 21 books in this series), it can be hard to find something new and refreshing. The Bone Hacker does this by traveling to a different part of the world with some unusual shenanigans along the way. Overall this is not a great read, but for a summer escape, I was pleasantly surprised.

I've read all the previous Temperance Brennan books by Kathy Reichs so I was very excited to get an advanced copy from NetGalley! The Bone Hacker starts off in Montreal as Tempe is asked to work on a case involving a lightning strike victim. That case leads to Turks and Caicos, bringing more bodies and mysteries. I enjoyed the change of scenery from Montreal and North Carolina to a more tropical setting that put her out of her comfort zone and introduced new characters. The mystery was well-rounded and intriguing with lots of threads that came together in the end. Its a perfect page-turner beach read and I always look forward to a new one!

This book was amazing! Kathy Reichs always paints such a beautiful picture with her words. You'll be able to imagine everything happening! Three plot was fantastic!

The Bone Hacker is the latest Temperance Brennan novel. When a body in Montreal is finally identified, Tempe is asked to travel to the Turks and Caicos with an investigator who has a string of murders that might be related. The investigation seems to find no link between the bodies except the chopped off left hand that is never found with each victim. Before getting too far in the case, the lead investigator is killed and Tempe’s own life threatened. In a twisted case that involves the FBI, Tempe takes on a killer that is more dark and complicated than he seems for another page turning mystery that keeps Tempe on my favorites shelf. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.

Thank you NetGalley for the Advanced Reader Copy of The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs and published by Schribner Publishing.

This Doc has recall. Tremendous recall. It solved so much of four different cases just having that unfold was a character in its self of this great story.

At first all the French was off putting only because I don’t read the language, and wished I could have had an audiobook instead because it would have added to the true flavor of her world; however once she got to the islands it was no longer an issue and I enjoyed island life and the cases Brennan was working.

Great descriptions of the island, interesting autopsies and a substantial motive solves the biggest crime since 9/11. Read it or listen to it, you won’t be disappointed.

An excellent #22. We start put in Montreal with body parts found attached to a boat propeller, quite the image. The body is from a man from The Turks and Caicos where Tempe soon travels to. Serendipitously, I am visiting there next week, and from the descriptions in this book, I am even more excited. There are several different mysteries in the book, which all converge, and several unexpected surprises. The banter among some of the characters, especially Tempe, alleviate a bit of the many gruesome discoveries.
I also was in Montreal last summer, so it was fun hearing about many of the places I visited. I also like the way Tempe immediately translates the French for us. She and Ryan have FINALLY committed, and their scenes together are quite adorable.
Thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster for the EARC. A solid addition to the series.

This 22nd addition to the Temperance Brennan series is a good read but I found it a bit hard to follow at times. The story starts with a murder in Quebec and ends up in the Turks and Caicos Islands where there have been several murders under strange circumstances. Many of the victims have had a hand cut off. Tempe teams with the T&C law enforcement agencies to try to solve the old murders and to investigate the current ones. There is enough suspense and action to keep readers interested in finding out what really happened. I like that the story included Tempe's love interest and daughter, even though they were not main characters. Including them pulls the series together. I look forward to Tempe's 23rd adventure. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in return for my honest review.

As usual Kathy hits it out of the park! I loved the T&C setting and the techy aspects of the story. Many of the “usual” characters were missing for the most part, but it was neat to see them replaced by their T&C counterparts. Well done!

Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner for this advanced reader's copy. In exchange, I am providing an honest review.

A body found in Montreal leads to Tempe traveling to Turks and Caicos to investigate not just the original body but another body that a police detective from TC has asked Brennan to look at. It seems that for years random tourists have been disappearing and then reappearing, dead, at a different time. Examining the bodies discovered, Tempe finds similarities which leads to the realization that a serial killer has been active on the island for years. As Brennan becomes more and more involved in the investigation the danger increases and the clues lead to a surprising revelation of a crime that is not easily seen, or even easily understood.

I couldn't get on board with this one. Reichs took two very different crimes and tried to bring them together into one big story. It didn't work for me. I ended up reading and rereading several portions trying to understand the threads Reichs was trying to weave together. I'm still confused about how she tried to make these two crimes become one and in my opinion, she wasn't successful. One of the two crimes I'm still fuzzy on the reasoning behind them. I just couldn't pick up whatever Reichs was trying to lay down with that particular part of the story. There was very little character development in this story. The book as a whole felt like a book that was rushed to be written and put into print.

For this, the twenty second in the Temperance Brennan series, Reichs changes location for most of the book. Tempe is a forensic pathologist who works both in Quebec and North Carolina. When a citizen of the Turks and Caicos is shot in Quebec, a detective from that country enlists Tempe’s help in solving a case in that tropical land. Tempe is on her own, as boyfriend Ryan is involved in his own case in Canada.

The island mystery involves the disappearance of some young male tourists over the years; the bodies of two of them have recently been discovered. When Tempe arrives in Provo T&C, she is immediately caught up in yet another case. A boat is found with 5 dead people aboard, far off course and out of gas. Could they possible be related? Tne investigation puts both Tempe and island detectives in danger.

Although this would work as a standalone, I have read all of the books in this series. I enjoy Reichs’ writing. She has a clever way with words and a good sense of humor comes through in Tempe’s biting wit. While the narrative does get a bit technical at times, I always learn something new from Tempe’s cases. Reichs is a master at building up suspense at the end of each chapter with a tease that makes the reader want jump into the next one.

This is a nice addition to the series and I liked the change of venue.

I had a wonderful opportunity to read an ARC of The Bone Hacker and was pleased as always with the title fitting the story so well. Definitely another excellent visit with Tempe, as she worked in unfamiliar territory. I always enjoy her meeting interesting colleagues and potential suspects. The pacing kept me engaged and eager for one more chapter. I always like how the author takes time to clarify technical terminology without dumbing it down too much. It flows well with the narrative and brings you right in as another character.

Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read this novel.

Pros: This a simple, easy mystery read. If you're not in the mood for a long or particularly complex novel or series, you may enjoy this. The premise of The Bone Hacker was interesting.

Unfortunately, this book just wasn't for me. I grew up obsessed with the television series Bones. This was my first attempt at reading one of the books that the show is based off of. I think I'm too used to the TV character version of Bones. I found book Brennan to be lackluster in comparison. The writing style and dialogue in The Bone Hacker just felt a little underbaked to me. The mystery component was also too predictable.

I do appreciate the opportunity to read the novel though, and the creation of the Brennan book universe in general!

Another great thriller by Kathry Reichs featuring anthropologist Temperance Brennan. Thanks Netgalley for the advanced copy!

I don't know how she does it, but Kathy Reichs never disappoints!

The Bone Hacker is book 22 in the Temperance Brennan series. Side note: if you don't want to be confused by things in this book, please make sure you read them in order if you plan to read this one as they do merge info from previous books. This was a relatively quick read, very interesting, easy to get pulled into, and very enjoyable. My favorite part of the books is always the forensics analysis and investigation into the crime(s). I've also learned a lot of new terms and words. This was well thought out, and I really loved and enjoyed it. I look forward to whatever else Kathy writes.

Thank you to Netgalley and Scribner for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

The latest Tempe Brennan finds her reluctantly flying to the Turks and Caicos Islands with one of their police Superintendents. The woman has spent years trying to solve the disappearance of three young male tourists. One body was found, shot and missing his left hand. She needs Tempe to examine two recently found skeletons. What should be a straightforward examination quickly devolves into a troubling labyrinth with major implications.

Reichs delivers another twisty mystery. I always enjoy following Tempe as she uncovers forensic evidence. Suspects abound and I did not guess the whole ending. While series regulars make satisfying appearances, this 22nd entry easily stands alone for those who haven’t read others. Recommended.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

This is Kathy Reichs’ 22 book in the Temperance Brennan series, and one of my favorites. Temperance Brennan is a forensic anthropologist working in North Carolina and Canada. In The Bone Hacker, she is in Canada with her beau and private investigator Andrew Ryan. During 4th of July celebrations, a man is supposedly struck by lightning and fallen into the water. The next day, a body is found. It leads her to being invited to the Turks and Caicos Islands where tourists are killed and their left hands severed.

I always love how much setting details that Reichs puts into her stories. I, sometimes, pull up maps to see the routes that Temperance and her companions travel. However, this can also make the books feel overwhelming, like if you miss one thing, then you missed something crucial.

This mystery appears to go down a new avenue for Temperance. For example, Ryan is not actually present in this one. He’s more of a far away support character. For another, the reader learns more about how another country handles police and forensic procedures. The new items bring a sense of anticipation. The addition of new characters makes the series feel fresh.

Overall, I rate this novel 4 out of 5 stars.
