I always love books with shifting points of view and the fact that one of the narrators was the victim (not a spoiler, it's apparent early on) was a new and interesting way to slowly give us readers information and a different view into what happened. It also involved a significant shift in time (before vs after a death), which makes the author's skill in shifting narrators/time/perspective even more impressive.

I definitely felt seen with the discussions of the difficulty of working and juggling childcare, as well as the trepidation involved in trying to navigate relationships with other parents/families. I also felt like a lot of the characters ended up surprising me and the ending definitely was not what I expected.

In general, a fun read that kept you guessing and re-evaluating new information as you went along with solid character development and just the right amount of suspense vs. information.

Whatever you’re looking for in your next read, The Other Mothers delivers. I kept thinking I knew where the story was going, but then I’d be hit with another big reveal. I loved the characters and how multidimensional they were- I simultaneously loved and hated most of them. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I can’t wait to check out what else Katherine Faulkner will deliver.

Oh, I couldn't WAIT to devour this after absolutely loving _Greenwich Park_, and for me, this is another winner from Faulkner.

Tash and Sophie share perspectives in this very twisty thriller/mystery, and they are operating in distinct timelines. This becomes clear immediately because Tash, a news reporter, is investigating the unusual circumstances around Sophie's death! The timing is a highlight. As Tash finds that yet another person in her orbit may have some questionable involvement, Faulkner sends readers over to Sophie's past to learn exactly what kind of interaction she actually had with that character. Both central women start off seeming reliable and relatively typical, and they share the role of outsiders, to some degree, in a world they are just not fully part of (mostly but not exclusively for socioeconomic reasons).

As a mother of a toddler herself, it's somewhat organic for Tash to do what would appear so odd from the outside: begin hanging with some of the people who were part of Sophie's life and maybe even her demise. It's easy to come up with many reasons why many people would have wanted to kill Sophie, so it never feels surprising that her "accidental" death could easily have been a murder (not to mention the various pieces of physical evidence that point to this). What does keep readers guessing is the general ridiculousness of these characters and their broken moral compasses. They are making their own rules, finding value in only their wants and needs, and generating and keeping many secrets, so while readers may be onto several reasonable theories, they are also often reminded that none of these folks can be trusted. All of this makes for a highly enjoyable read.

This is my second novel by this author, and I expect likeminded incoming fans as well as those new to Faulkner will find a lot to like here, too!

This is one of those "what did I just read?" moments where my brain is scrambled trying to make sense of this marvelous book! Faulkner deftly weaves together the stories of young nanny, Sophie and investigative journalist, Tasha in a whirlwind of secrets and lies that will make your head spin! I'm still reeling as I think of all the friendships forged, friendships ruined, and alliances broken beyond repair! It begs the question, "do we really know our closest friends, or even our spouses?" This is one of those novels that will resonate with me for a long time!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Tash wants to relaunch her career as a journalist. She thinks she may have found a good story about a nanny whose death doesn’t add up, although it was deemed an accident by the coroner. This story flip flops between Tash and Sophie. This works really well as the stories mesh together nicely. I thought this was a very well written book. It’s a slow burning thriller with a few nice twists.

The Other Mothers, by Katherine Faulkner, is a clever and absorbing book. A young nanny, Sophie, had been found dead and the coroner declared it an accident. Tash, a young mother and struggling journalist, questions the verdict when Sophie’s mother approaches her. Tash and her husband are struggling financially and she hopes this story could bring about the fame and windfall they need. At the same time, her son Finn needs to be in a playgroup. Tash is pleased to be welcomed by a group of other young mothers from a very wealthy and posh nearby London neighborhood. She continues to investigate even when the two worlds collide. A strong underlying theme is motherhood, particularly the challenges of being a new mother. Told from two narratives, Tash and Sophie, the plot thickens and escalates. Tash is caught up in a dangerous game between women; who can she really believe? I really enjoyed the tension and drama in this story! I highly recommend it.

With thanks to Netgalley and Gallery Books for the ARC. My opinions are my own.

Greenwich Park, by Katherine Faulkner, is one of my favorite books, so I was excited to receive an ARC of The Other Mothers. As a former nanny, I was immediately intrigued by the plot. I just finished reading it, and I am blown away. Twist after twist after twist after twist!! The author does an amazing way of writing from 2 character's perspectives and of keeping the reader guessing until the very last paragraph. I will be telling everyone to read this book! One of the best psychological thrillers I've read this year!

I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the mix of Sophie's view and Tash's. Sometimes the writing was a little slow or basic in parts, but over all very enjoyable. Motives were interesting and I kept changing my mind about who I thought did it. Did not see that twist coming!

If you enjoyed Katherine Faulkners previous book, Greenwich Park, then you will love this one!
For me this started off as a pretty slow burner, but now after finishing the book I can see it was building up the characters, their personalities and friendships so she could lead us all down the path of each woman, to then to turn it all on its head!
Every mum can relate to Tash’s trials as a new mum, especially the early days of playgroups when your child refuses to let you leave. And there always seems to be a little clique of mothers who seem to find newly found parenthood a breeze.
Tash envies that group of mums and their endless play dates, posh coffees, lavish brunches and their friendships and would love to be included in their little clique.
But beware what you wish for because as with a lot of things in life, nothing is quite as it seems.
The story flicks between Tash and Sophie, the previous live in nanny for Claire, one of the other mothers, and Sophie’s chapters are all told under the headings of how many months, weeks, days and even hours and minutes before her death.
Sophie died whilst wild swimming in the local wetlands months before Tash becomes part of the mothers group and the topic of Sophie is not up for discussion within the group.
What Tash fails to tell the other mothers is that now she has become a freelance journalist she has been digging into Sophie’s death.
As all their lives become more entangled, old and new secrets and lies start to rise to the surface, alongside plot twist after plot twist, all leading to an ending that’s as shocking as it is unexpected!
