This was an amazing thriller, exposing layers of the characters a bit at a time. Just my kind of book! The characters were complex and believable and the outcomes were unexpected. Great book!

2.75 stars. The Other Mothers is a dual pov British thriller with lots of twists and turns. In fact, too many twists and turns. The story holds strong for the first half, but spirals into a convoluted, confusing, unbelievable story by the end. I love a good twisty thriller, but there needs to be some believability. The Other Mothers was just too off the mark for me. Thank you, NetGalley for giving me the chance to review this book.

Way too many characters, way too much going on, way to confusing. I feel like the writing and style was a lot like her previous book Greenwich Park, so if you loved that one, you’re sure to love this one too!

A journalist, and new mom, is flattered when she’s befriended by a small, wealthy, tight knit group of mothers at her son’s preschool.
Her new clique status becomes threatened, though, when her investigation of the mysterious death of a young nanny keeps uncovering truths that hit too close to home, revealing less than alluring sides of her new friends.
Narrated by a couple of different characters, in both flashbacks and the present, this was an intriguing story with a slow and satisfying roll out.
Thanks to #netgalley and #gallerybooks for this #arc of #theothermothers by #katherinefaulkner in exchange for an honest review.

The characters were all insufferable and I had a hard time sympathizing with any of them. The story had so many twists and turns that it felt less thrilling and more exhausting. I really loved the premise, but unfortunately it just didn't work for me.

Before she became a mother, Tash was a successful journalist. Now she’s having a hard time getting any of her work published. As she begins investigating the death of Sophie, a local nanny, a group of wealth, in-crowd moms embrace her into their friend group. She struggles to keep up with them, doing things she can’t really afford like the other women can.
This is a dual narrative, switching between Tash in the present, and Sophie leading up to her death. There are all sorts of twists and turns and lots of drama between the women. I thoroughly enjoyed this book & look forward to reading more book by Katherine Faulkner.
Thanks to NetGalley and Galley Books for providing me with an advanced copy of this book to review.

This author does such a fantastic job building up her stories. This book has a full cast of characters who all gave me something to be suspicious of, which made me keep guessing up until the end. I loved the duel perspective and timelines and I really got into the investigation. My only complaint is that I think in the main group of women, I wish they would have been more distinct from each other earlier on in the book. I think before we found out Sophie worked for Claire I kind of had all the women lumped together as a rich stereotype and I would have preferred a bit more background on them earlier on. However, this book had me completely hooked, it was the type that had me sucked in and reading at 2 am. I loved it so much and I will read anything by this author!

What an edge of your seat read this was. What I thought would be a read about catty mothers who gossip, talk about each other and coffee klatch turned in to an intense murder mystery. Once I golt into this book I couldn't stop reading, great domestic thriller from start to finish. My second read from this Author and certainly won't be my last.
Thank you to Netgalley, Gallery Books and the Author Katherine Faulkner for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A fast-paced, cleverly plotted mystery set in bougie London, among the "yummy mummy" set, those who long to join it, and those whose labor goes unseen. Dark and enjoyable enough to overlook a couple of incredible resolutions....

I flew through this one! The suspense kept my attention and I felt it was perfectly paced. I honestly didn’t really like anyone in the story, but I think that was the point. Domestic suspense is one of my favorite genres, and this one was full of secrets between spouses and friends! I loved the constantly changing plot.

I haven't found a lot of thrillers that thrilled me this year but The Other Mothers is a fantastic, twisty mystery that I couldn't put down.
Faulkner's spin on toxic female friendships and mommy cliques is both relatable and entertaining. Almost every character in the book is unreliable in his or her own way so my opinion on "whodunit" changed with each chapter I read. And yes, you'll have to suspend disbelief but it's totally worth it. I really didn't see the ending coming!

This was an entertaining story. It’s also a sad commentary about how hard it is to find friends, real friends, as an adult. The idea of wanting to fit in with the “in crowd” never goes away and even adults can fall into the trap of doing things they never thought they’d do just to fit in and have friends. Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for this ARC.

{ Captious. Histrionic. Enigmatic. }
If you're looking for something suspenseful to binge this week, here's your pick!
I enjoyed Katherine Faulkner's last book, Greenwich Park, and was eager to start this new release.
I was quickly caught up in the drama and secrets surrounding the mothers of an elite London playgroup. The twists and turns of the narrative kept me hooked, and the story ended on (creepy and unsettling) high note.
I definitely recommend it to all the domestic suspense fans out there!

This was an excellent and twisty thriller - very fast-paced. I love this author's books! She always delivers a good read.

The mothers is a classic book about mothers who want to one up the other. I unfortunately had high hopes for this book and she catty gossip and drama, yet, I was let down.

Absolutely LOVED this THRILLING, Page-turning, Suspenseful, TWISTY read!
New mother and ex journalist, Tash is looking for a story when one comes right into her lap. The mother of a murder victim enlists Tash into finding what really happened to her Sophie Blake. Sophie’s death had seemed suspicious by ruled as an accident by a force that didn’t bother to investigate.
Tash delves into Sophies life and discovers that she was a live-in Nanny to one of her new friends of her child’s playgroup. As Sophie becomes entangled with her new group of friends, pretending to be more that who she is, have more money than she does, she discovers many secrets. Secrets that carry a death sentence. So many suspects, her friends, her own husband maybe, lies, betrayal and more murder ensues. Sophie uncovers what she thinks is the truth and puts her own life in danger. Who would kill to keep their secrets?
So many twists and a truly SHOCKING ending. I absolutely LOVED this fast read!

THE OTHER MOTHERS by Katherine Faulkner is an exciting psychological thriller which will have wide appeal. With multiple narrators and multiple timeframes, Faulkner expertly builds suspense around the death of a nanny named Sophie Blake. She was judged to have drowned, but her mother doesn't believe that and convinces Tash Carpenter, a freelance journalist and Mum to toddler Finn, to investigate. Tash's inquiries seem to lead to some of her much richer playdate Mums (Claire, Laura, and Nicole ) and their families. With flashbacks to Sophie's reaction to these same women, the menace really builds. Faulkner sets the mystery in present day London and explores questions of affluence, privilege, and social class as well as fidelity and marriage vows. Much darker than a cozy mystery, this often-scary, twisty novel is full of unexpected pairings, anonymous threats, and secrets. A LibraryReads selection for December, THE OTHER MOTHERS also received starred reviews from both Kirkus ("Faulkner is a pro at ever-so-gradually ratcheting up the tension") and Publishers Weekly ("This one grips from start to shocking finish").

This was disappointing. The pace was slow so it made it difficult to stay with the story. I had a hard time with many of the characters and did not find them likable.

Books like this haven't been working great for me this year, but The Other Mothers is the exception. Faulkner does not miss and I think mothers and non mothers alike will not be able to put this down.

This is an excellent book, but, I did find at times I got a little lost. There are a lot of characters to keep track of, and a long, winding story.
