Despite being the second book in the series, I found the story easy to follow. The author has a well developed world and characters here.

We're back in Weaver Street with Kitty Conlon and her neighbours in the second book of this series. This one is every bit as good as the first one. It's packed with action from beginning to end. It begins in 1924 and we go all the way through to 1939.
We have the Depression of 1929 which brings severe hardship, then King Edward's Abdication, also Mosley's Black Shirts and then the threat of war. Through it all, Kitty, Maggie, Mavis, Beth and new edition Rose, drink tea by the gallon and put the world, mainly the neighbourhood, to rights. The 'Street' sticks together.
The children are growing up and having their own problems. There are births, marriages and deaths. We have two new families on the street and though they fit in initially, it isn't all plain sailing.
I love this series and can't wait for the next one!! I read it in one day. I'd highly recommend it to anyone who loves good historical fiction!

Thanks to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an early copy of this book.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book, second in the Weaver Street series.

I once again enjoyed reading the exploits of this group of neighbours. The book had many twists and turns which kept the reader interested.

My only negative is how many years the book covered meaning it jumped large periods of time very suddenly. I think it could have covered a shorter number of years and given more detail of historical events such as the Depression and Wall Street Crash. I only hope the next book does not jump through the second world war (which had just been declared at the end of this title) but gives detail and justice to one of the most important periods in modern day history.

This is tbd second book in the series. It was lovely to catch up with the characters, as well as merry some new ones.

Each one has faced hardships as well as heartbreak.

Mavis, invites Rosie to live with her, but she’s hiding a secret, and finds life different to how she’s used to living.

The story is about their lives their bad times and the good,

Looking forward to reading what happens next in the characters’ lives.

I recommend this hook.

As the great depression hits Liverpool, can she keep her family safe.

1924 Weaver street, Kitty Conlon is marrying her second husband John Sykes, John is a smashing bloke and will be a good dad to her children Molly and Patrick, then Molly is hit with scarlet fever and Maggie Stubbs and all the neighbours come to her rescue getting the house and the wedding ready. A new house built by John on the ground beside Weaver Street she will still see all her friends every day.
Giving them new hopes for the future its now 1935 and the depression is taking its toll on everyone, bringing hard times to the family and neighbours Maggie, Beth and Mavis right up to the beginning of WW2.

What a absolutely fantastic read that you feel so drawn into the story, this book two will bring so much joy to readers and leaving you hoping that we now get another delightful read in book three.

This is the second in the Weaver Street series and just as good as the first one. As well as catching up with some old characters we meet some new ones too, most notably Rose Brown who finds herself taken in and cared for by the residents of Weaver Street. Including births, deaths and marriages, there are so many aspects of Britain between the wars covered but each event flows into the next. Chrissie Walsh really makes the characters believable and real. I’m very much looking forward to reading the next instalment. Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Hard Times on Weaver Street by Chrissie Walsh

As Liverpool and its residents begin to heal from the wounds and memories of World War I, life on Weaver Street in 1924 is blessedly peaceful.

At number eleven, widow Kitty Conlon is dreaming about her upcoming wedding to John, while at number nine her best friend Maggie is cursing her bad luck as she juggles the demands of her cantankerous mother, stroppy daughter and fly-by-night beau. At number fifteen, Mavis has a mysterious new lodger, while further along the street the O Malley family are missing their beloved Ireland.
Loved the 2nd visit to Weaver Street and finding out how life continues to pan out for Kitty , her children and the rest of the residents.
The author has such a wonderful way of capture the era and the way the people just got on with their lot and pulled together to make the most of what they had.

Hard times on Weaver Street, the 2nd book in the series, and a great catch up with all the characters and meeting new ones too. Kitty, Maggie and Beth are 3 friends who have had hardships and heartbreaks, along with Mavis who takes in Rose a mysterious stranger with a secret. This book follows them through their lives, good and bad times. Really looking forward to the 3rd book to follow on this great story.

Great to catch up with the characters on Weaver street, I liked the addition of new character Rose. Really enjoyed the storyline of all there lives in the build up to war, looking for seeing what lies in store for the next installment.

I just love the community spirit in this series. Times may be hard and they don’t have much to spare, if anything. That doesn’t stop everyone pulling together to make someone else’s life just a bit more bearable.
Joining Kitty, Maggie, Mavis and Beth again with their growing families. They are joined by Rose who has a completely different background, she soon learns that it’s not what you have in your life that’s important but who!
My favourite character was Rose.
I’m hoping that we will see more from this series as the young ones grow?
