Not really sure what I thought of this book to be honest. I normally love KL Slater's writing but something about this one left me feeling "meh". Maybe it was a little laxity in character development or what but I was left not feeling anything for any of them and that is unusual for me. Now I will say that the story line stayed true to Slater's previous writing style and I did like it over all. A little more time on the characters in general would make a difference.
Well this book kept me guessing until the very end. I did not see some of these twists coming and initially the reveal felt convoluted. But, once I was able to put all of the characters together and understand their relationships, it made it so much better! I do feel like the ending was a bit wrapped up in a neat little bow, but overall a good thriller. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC....in which I am to provide an honest review. I am fan of this author and was super excited to read the new book. Instead of devouring the pages in a couple of days...two weeks later, finally finished. Starts off super slow and bounced around different POVs/past n present. Lottie was irritating and too obsessed for me. Thankfully, the book starts to pick up and hello plot twists! Ending felt rushed...we experience so much just to have the last few chapters fly by.
Would I recommend this book...yes, with the preface that you gotta stick with it.
Would I read another book by the author...absolutely!
Lottie’s husband Neil takes job as a landscaper at Seaspray house and they move into the cottage next door with their son Albie. The couple who lives there seems nice enough at first, but Lottie questions their sincerity and starts noticing odd things, including a potential other person living there. What exactly is going on with these neighbors? And do Lottie and Neil have their own secrets?
I’ve read a few of K.L. Slaters books and what I love about them are that the chapters are short and you jump right into the story finding out secrets and mysteries quickly. If you like thrillers but don’t like when they drag on or get complicated, definitely check this author out!!
This was a good solid thriller. Took a bit to get into the story as the beginning was slower but I enjoyed the twist !
Having not read anything by K L Slater before I wasn't sure what to expect. But WOW. That ending...
The whole way through I was left wanting to know more.
This book was full of secrets and lies. And plenty of suspense
I enjoyed reading this fast-paced thriller and discovering how the storylines linked together between the various characters and timelines.
This was KL Slater back at her best. There were early hints of issues which needed to cone out, I had a couple of unanswered questions but that didn't spoil my enjoyment and thus was a definite afternoon read which I had to finish to find out what happened.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
This one is actually quite hard to review. I was drawn by the prologue but somehow I was expecting something different - not that it managed to surprise me but I was thinking that this story goes in another direction.
I loved the setting and the atmosphere - especially the descriptions! I could imagine the cottage, the gardens, the Hilltop house and I even had a very specific imagine in mind on how the characters look like. Problem was - I didn't like anyone of them lol.
Lottie: Jealous, impulsive, blames everyone and everything except her.
Neil: what a boring man - and his revelation about the accident was also a little bit, weird?
Neeta: hated her with everything I got...
Keris: meh!
Ted & Albie : they were actually the most likeable characters in that book.
The story is a little bit farfetched and didn't leave me quite satisfied - BUT the short chapters and being wellwritten it was a fun read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
Lottie and her husband Neil and there son Albie have had a tough time of late. After Neil’s accident, Lottie gave up work to care for them and now they are struggling financially. That’s when Neil sees the perfect job. He’ll be maintaining the grounds of beautiful Seaspray and there is a cottage included with the job. A fresh start for all. Lottie is suspicious of Ted and Neeta his bosses. Everybody is lying and everyone has secrets!
Enjoyed this one. Total page turner with twists constantly. I liked the visits to the past woven into every few chapters which meant the suspense was built slowly.
5 stars!
Lottie and her husband Neil move with their son to new town where Neil has a new job. The couple that employs him take an interest in Lottie’s young son and encourage him to spend more and more time with them.
A psychological thriller full of secrets and lies.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for my e-copy in exchange for my honest review.
KL Slater's latest release, The Bedroom Window, is a gripping psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. One of the book's greatest strengths lies in the depth and complexity of its characters. Emma, the protagonist, is flawed and relatable, making it easy to empathize with her as she battles her own demons while trying to uncover the truth. The supporting character is equally well-developed, each with their own distinct personalities and motivations. Slater expertly explores their relationships, making it difficult to discern who can be trusted and who has something to hide.
The plot is intricately layered, filled with red herrings and unexpected twists. However, the book does suffer from a few minor flaws. At times, the pacing feels rushed, and certain plot developments could have been given more room to breathe. The resolution also left me craving a more definitive ending, as a few loose ends are untied.
Despite these minor shortcomings, The Bedroom Window is a captivating psychological thriller that showcases KL Slater's talent for crafting intricate plots and compelling characters. I undoubtedly find myself absorbed in the gripping narrative, eagerly turning the pages to uncover the truth.
KL Slater proves once again why she is a force to be reckoned with in the psychological thriller genre. I lose myself in the pages of this gripping tale and the rollercoaster ride of twists and turns.
KL Slater is back with another twisty thriller! “The Bedroom Window,” is the story of Lottie, and her family, Albie, her son, and Neil, her husband. After Neil has a terrible accident, the family finally feels like they have luck on their side when he lands a new job as an estate manager. At first things are going well. Their son loves their new home, and his new school, Lottie gets a great job and Neil enjoys his work. The only thing weird, is Neil’s bosses won’t let him in their home. Lottie starts to suspect the couple is hiding someone in the home. That’s when the mystery unravels!
While the ending is not believable, if you can suspend realty this is an enjoyable read. Thank you to NetGalley, and the publisher, for the ARC is exchange for an honest review.
I have ready a few books by this author and have enjoyed them all. In this story we have Lottie and Neil move with their young son Albie for Neil's new job. However his new employer's seem to be hiding secrets and Lottie wants to get to the bottom of what they're hiding.
I find it difficult to review this book as there was very little going on in the story, the characters were extremely unlikeable - yet I couldn't put it down. I don't think it's one of the best by this author, however I still recommend it.

I usually adore this author's books, but this one missed the mark just a bit for me.
Lottie and Neil move to the coast with their young son, Albie. Neil has just recovered from an accident that almost took his life, and he's now doing landscaping for wealthy couple Ted and Neeta. As a bonus, the family gets to make use of the cottage not far from the main property.
Lottie soon begins to wonder why she's never invited inside the couple's mansion. All of the entertaining is done outdoors. Curiously, Neeta has taken a liking both to Neil and young Albie. Is she purposely trying to steal Lottie's family? The couple swears they don't have children, but one night when Lottie is spying on the couple through the window, the sees the shape of another person inside the mansion...someone who shouldn't be there.
There was a lot of filler in this book, and page after page of nothing happening, and when the final twist was revealed, it was beyond the scope of anything that was remotely believable.
I'll eagerly await her next release, but THE BEDROOM WINDOW was a miss for me. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this early read that publishes May 19, 2023.
I had to keep reading this mystery novel as the author kept hinting at things going on without giving all the details. It was this suspense and intrigue that really captured my attention and made me eager for further insight. When all was revealed later on, I found that I had predicted one key detail but everything surrounding it was quite different than I had imagined.
The different points of view between the husband and wife worked really well, because it prevented the reader from becoming prejudiced against the husband as well as putting the wife's experiences into perspective.
Much was made of their son's feelings and behaviour and I found he was sort of forgotten towards the end.
I liked the ending but it felt sudden and detached from the rest of the story. It was lacking the intensity I was expecting and was almost simplified, like the bare bones of the plot without all the interaction, drama and edginess.
I received this arc from netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
THE BEDROOM WINDOW is a standalone psychological thriller by author Kim Slater. The story is about a family, Lottie and husband, Neil and their young son Albie, who move to a coastal area where Neil works as a caretaker for Ted and Neeta’s property.
This move has been perfect for everyone.
But soon, something starts to feel wrong when Lottie witnesses’ strange activity from their bedroom window. The neighbors never open their front door and said they have no children yet there is a small pink tricycle she saw in the hall. Something isn’t right!
Then, one night, Lottie sees a small shadowy figure in their neighbor’s bedroom window…, Lottie finds herself drawn into a dangerous game, which could put her boy’s life in danger.
What is this couple hiding?
This is a well-written novel with intense descriptions that heighten the suspense level, and give depth to the characters. The tension builds slowly with twists and turns to a satisfactory conclusion.
Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and Netgalley for my digital copy.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and K L Slater for my ARC of 'The Bedroom Window' in return for an honest review.
i have read several K L Slater novels and thoroughly enjoyed them, however I found this was too incredible.
Lottie, Neil and their nine year old son, Albie, have just moved into the caretaker’s cottage on the grounds of the grand Seaspray House, where Neil has landed a job as the estate manager after recovering from an accident.
Ted and Neeta, who own Seaspray House don’t have children but are taken by young Albie. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him.
Lottie starts checking on her neighbours with binoculars from the bedroom window. It soon becomes clear that there are many secrets within the grand house.
The Bedroom WIndow by K.L. Slater is a wonderful, book, full of twists, turns, and mystery. I was hooked from the very first chapter and could not put this book down. If you like dark and creepy books, then this is the book for you! Highly recommend!

My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours' house. And after the terrible year we've had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in the perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can't stop talking about the tree house they're building him, and the cookies they bake together. But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don't they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle in their hall belong to? And why can I hear a lullaby drifting across the garden when I'm tucking my own boy into bed?
There's lots of twists to keep us wondering what is going on at Lottie's new neighbour's house. The characters are well developed, and there's lots of secrets and lies. The suspense builds throughout, and it has a creepy vibe to it. This is a descriptively written story, but the pace is on the slow side. It did take just over half the book before anything really happened, so I took half a star off for that reason. The first half was filled with, in my opinion, lots of unnecessary information, The story has some flashbacks. I also felt there were a few loose ends left hanging.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #KLSlater for my ARC of #TheBedroomWindow in exchange for an honest review.
