Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book. K.L Slater is a fab author and I’ll be sure to check out more of their work.

The bedroom window was an eerie fast paced thriller with twists and turns throughout. It had a good storyline and strong characters.

I could feel myself getting frustrated with Neil and his relationship with his bosses but knew there was more to the odd couple!

Overall a good read that kept me hooked.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the copy of The Bedroom Window by K. L. Slater. I have read and enjoyed other books by Slater so I was excited to read this one. The story was clever but for some reason the execution didn’t excite me. I think the timelines were off/didn’t work and the characters were boring. The writing was good (as usual) but the book was a tough one for me overall. If you love twists and good writing you will probably really love this book, but I needed more.

Book Title: The Bedroom Window
Author: K.L. Slater
Publisher: Bookouture
Genre: Psychological Thriller
Pub Date: May 19, 2023
My Rating: 3.3 Stars
Pages: 237

I am a fan of author, K.L. Slater having read five of her novels ~ I especially liked the following four: [book: The Marriage, The Widow, The Girlfriend, and The Apartment]. They were all great - earning 5 stars from stingy star me!
I went into this blind as I love this author!

Lottie and Neil and their nine year old son boy Albie have just moved into the caretaker’s cottage on the grounds of the grand Seaspray House, where Neil has landed a job as the estate manager aka ~head landscaper.

Ted and Neeta don’t have children but are taken by young Adie. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him.
Lottie starts checking on her neighbors with binoculars. Soon things feel wrong. They told Lottie and Neil that they don’t have children. However, why does she a pink tricycle? Why does she often hear a lullaby while she is putting Albie to bed? Then, one night, did she really see a small shadowy figure in their bed.

The prologue indicated that someone is trying to clean a house covered in blood; which definitely got my attention.

The flashbacks to Charlie and Claire also had me curious.
Yes I was curious and hung in there but I continued to struggle.

I love this author and have enjoyed her other books so went into this with high expectations.
I truly hate to give a Kim Slater story only 3.3 stars but this fell short of my expectation.
However, I still call myself a fan and will read her next story.

Want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for May 19, 2023

- Neil secured a job as a head landscaper for a wealthy couple, Neeta and Ted, at their home (“Seaspray House”). As part of the job, Neil & the family will be living in the estate cottage.
- Lottie is never invited into the Seaspray House, and some other strange things start to happen. Are Ted & Neeta hiding something?

MY THOUGHTS
- This is my first read by the author, but I’ve been meaning to read one of hers for a while.
- The book was interesting, and I was engaged & wanting answers. I found the writing easy to read. I would describe it as medium-paced.
- The characters are all pretty unlikeable.
- The ending was mediocre.
- There were a few things that I felt were unanswered.

TL;DR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️Engaging mystery. Mediocre ending. No likable characters.

Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. It will be published on May 19, 2023.

An unsettling suspenseful read with gripping twists and unnerving characters. There’s a lot of elements to this book which I think made this slightly convoluted at points, I think the thriller/mystery part maybe could have been a bit more clear cut and realistic to draw you in a bit more. However I did finish this and I enjoyed the story.

This book follows a couple who move into a cottage due to a new job opportunity and they soon realize the bosses are not who they seem.

Overall, there is nothing specifically that I really enjoyed in this story. While the characters had substance and interesting backstories I feel like it could have gone more in depth especially with the turmoil in Lottie and Neil's relationship before this book begins. None of the characters were likeable or interesting enough so the story felt like it dragged on. There was not much going on and the mystery was mediocre.

“The Williamses are living a lie and I know exactly what that might be. I think this couple, who have told everyone they live alone, are hiding something. Someone.”

The Bedroom Window is intoxicating, atmospheric, and simply unputdownable!

Who are they hiding? Why?

I enjoyed how Slater pulled together the elements of a modern whodunit: a missing child, a missing woman, suspicion of adultery, a growing sense of doom, unlikeable characters, narrators with secrets, and an atmospheric setting.

I always love Slater’s books because they are as much a character study as they are a spine-chilling suspense. This time, Slater takes a slower pace as she gets readers in the mindset of Lottie’s psyche and ties together the two timelines. Told through the eyes of both Lottie and her husband Neil, readers get a wider view of what’s going on and can see the full cast of flawed, untrustworthy characters. You’ll be in awe of Slater’s examination of relationships and agree that past events do indeed shape us. In fact, as you close the final page, you’ll see that we can’t truly escape our past until we face it head-on.

There’s so much perfection at Seaspray House, it is suspicious! With so many possible suspects it was difficult for me to nail down the killer in this nail-biting, stealthy psychological suspense about revenge and appearances. Congratulations, K.L. Slater, you got me AGAIN.

Another winner from a trusted author!

I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Not the best book by KL Slater. The plot has holes, the main character is flat, repetitive paragraphs and a weird ending. Not a lot of suspense despite a few twists.

2.5 stars. I had difficulty in deciding how to rate this book. I expected that this would be the type of book I would enjoy based on its plot description and the author's writing. On the positive side, it had an ominous, unsettling atmosphere of foreboding, intrigue, and dread. It was well-paced, with short chapters, and I was glued to my seat until the conclusion. (3 stars). On the negative side, I thought most of the characters were unlikeable, the plot preposterous, and the outcome absurd. I rarely anticipate twists but figured out the mystery of what was hidden in the ultra-modern mansion on the hill. There were a couple of plot holes left unanswered. (2 stars). Nevertheless, this was a gripping read.

I could not feel any sympathy for the main protagonist, Lottie, who blamed all her mental turmoil, faults, and compulsive behaviour on her mother's disappearance when she was thirteen. She and her husband, Neil, have grown distant. She does not accept any responsibility for her adult behaviour.

He had a terrible accident and was unable to work for two years. The diagnosis was possible paralysis, and he fell into a dark depression. Lottie stayed home to look after him. Neil had a miraculous recovery. After those long months, and are now in debt. Their young son felt neglected, became sullen, withdrew from classmates, and was bullied at school.

With Neil's health and mobility improved, he has a more positive outlook. He has been hired to manage a wealthy couple's gardens and their surrounding outdoor property. They will move to an oceanside cottage near his boss's imposing mansion above them. Neil is very excited about landing the job for a generous salary. Lottie is pleased that their son will attend a new school.

Neil is enthusiastic and finds his new boss encouraging and accommodating. Lottie is not so impressed. She feels there is something strange about the couple (Ted and Neeta) who own the mansion. She resents Neil is spending too much time working. The wealthy couple seems to be winning over their nine-year-old son, lavishing him with gifts and fun activities. The boy expresses unwillingness to come home and says he wishes to stay at the mansion. Home is boring. Lottie has seen Neeta flirting with her husband, and now he is coming home later than expected with lipstick imprinted on him. Lottie had a reputation for being a busybody in the past, spying on neighbours, and the habit is out of control.

Lottie can watch the activity in the mansion above through a window (with binoculars). She observes the couple fighting. More worrisome, there seems to be someone confined in the home. She sees toys scattered around and hears someone singing a lullaby. Ted and Neeta are childless. What could this mean? She had learned that the couple who preceded them were fired from the job and left in a hurry after becoming suspicious of their employers. Lottie fears a shadowy figure lurking on the estate's grounds.

Lottie feels she should report to the police. Neil demands that she mind her own business and keep silent. He blames her behaviour on an overly imaginative mind and her compulsion to snoop. Neil fears that he will be fired from his job if she doesn't stop.

We go back 20 years when two young girls, Charlie and Claire, are best friends. Claire lives in a comfortable home with her mother and father. Charlie's house is cold, damp, and mouldy. Charlie lives with a neglectful single mother who drinks too much and is wary of her mother's boyfriend. Charlie takes refuge in Claire's company until Claire's mother refuses to allow the friendship to continue, ensuring that Claire no longer associates with Charlie. Her best friend and mother have left her quickly, and Charlie begins to act up. How does their story connect with the present timeline?

The story has themes of trust, secrets, lies, deception, false identity, and revenge. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this advance copy of this psychological thriller/domestic drama.

I absolutely love books about women who can't mind their own business with husbands who get the full story even though they literally do not care. These ladies need ladies to gossip with but they just have oblivious husbands. It is beautiful.
I especially love this because I don't let anyone in my house either. I have issues but also I am trying to respect my children's privacy.
Also maybe this is a cultural thing. Americans don't visit like this. We barely visit at all.
Very weird. Loved it. 5 stars.

Having always enjoyed K.L Slaters books I was looking forward to this new one but it just didn't hold my attention as much as the others.I found it hard to engage with the characters and even though I did finish reading till the end it wasn't one of my favourites, but I will still look forward to reading any other books in the future by this author.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

Wow, this book had so many twists and turns that I NEVER saw coming. I'm still reeling over this one. Very well done. Often when reading thrillers I can guess the basic idea of the "twist" but even up until the last chapter I was still shocked with each page turn.

4.5

Thank you Bookouture & K. L. Slater for giving me the chance to read and review the book.

As I've previously said, I am an avid K. L. Slater fan, and as always, I have high expectations (and hopes) for Slater's new books.

From the very beginning I noticed the tempo of the writing has changed, compared to the other, previous books. And I must admit; I have absolutely loved the slower introduction of the story and characters. The beginning was also quite well written as it gave enough information regarding what the plot -might- be about.

The story really picked up towards the end, but, I must say, the ending was.. a bit.. sudden? This would've been my only constructive criticism, I would have loved to really see the ending transformed into a lot more chapters with more details (this would also have applied to the epilogue!).

This was my first read by K.L Slater; and I absolutely loved it. I give this book a 3 out of 5 stars because the ending wasn’t my favorite. But the storyline was a good one! And definitely easy to follow and read! I plan to read more by this author; loving the vibe!

I was drawn in from the prologue and had trouble putting the book down from the start! The characters were built wonderfully with many of secrets and lies that come to light throughout. The stories suspense constantly built up with Lotties suspicions and was descriptive enough to make you feel like you were right there. This book had plenty of twists and turns throughout leaving you guessing eland wondering what would come next!

This is my first read from this author and can’t wait to read more!
