I love all of KL Slater's books and this was no exception. It excellently written book which had me hooked start to finish.
Lottie and her husband Neil move to a new place with there son. Neil has gotten his dream job after his accident which Lottie had to become his carer. When they first arrive they meet Neil’s manager and his wife who both seem too good to be true offering babysitting for there son so Lottie can go back to work. Lottie becomes suspicious as they are never invited into there big house then she see a shadow in the window along with toys but they said they don’t have any children. What is going on in this house and how much danger are Lottie and her family in now.
Fantastic thriller with great twists and turns and the ending was fantastic I was gobsmacked. Will definitely be recommending this to everyone who loves a thriller. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advanced copy.
Always love this author and once again make it engrossing and creepy and making you really wonder. I couldn't stop reading this one.
Great characters some you love some you aren't sure about. Has it all!!
Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this advanced copy. I love all of KL Slater's books, however, this one I found harder to get into. She does always surprise me at the end, however, which she did again. I will always read her books, she is an amazing writer.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and KL Slater for the Arc of The bedroom window.
Wow! K L Slater does not disappoint. Just when you think you’ve sussed out what’s happening, you’re thrown another curveball. 5/5
The Bedroom Window was an excellently written book! I devoured the book for hours. I stopped my world and front page 1 to the end, did little else. It was one where you were watching and blood pressure was rising. On my gift list for others this year.
"The Bedroom Window" by K.L Slater is another great psychological thriller. This story sucks you and keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are many twists and turns that you don't see coming.
Lottie and her husband Neil move to a new place because Neil gets his dream job. This place seems like the best place for their little family, however Lottie is having reservations. As time goes on Lottie become more and more uncomfortable and is sure that something is happening where her husband works. Is she seeing things or is something more sinister happening.
This story was well written and draws you in with the characters and the plot. Highly recommend for those that love a good psychological thriller.
This book is easily consumable and reads fast—in other words, it’s hard to put down! However, i did feel like the plot was far fetched and a few items like Lottie being Charlie grown up (ie charlotte) were predictable.
K L Slater is one of the most reliable writers of thrillers around at the moment, another great book to take with you to the beach this summer
A different take on the Rear Window and for me was so much better. Now this is what I call a real psychological thriller and so emotional. I could not put this book down I HAD TO KNOW THE TRUTH!!!!! When it was finally revealed it left me speechless. Another page turner from one of my favourite and very talented authors. Loved it!!!!!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
This is a standalone psychological thriller by author Kim Slater. “The Bedroom Window” revolves around Lottie, her husband Neil and their young son Albie, who move to a stunning coastal location where Neil has been employed as a caretaker for Ted and Neeta’s property.
At first, everything seems idyllic, with Albie happily exploring the treehouse and movie room, and Neil settling into his new role. However, Lottie’s suspicions are aroused when she witnesses some strange and suspicious activity from her bedroom window. As the story unfolds, Lottie finds herself drawn into a dangerous game of deception and betrayal, with the safety of her family hanging in the balance.
Kim Slater’s writing is beautifully crafted, with vivid descriptions that build the suspense, bringing to life the relatable characters. The tension builds slowly but steadily, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat, and the twists and turns in the plot are both surprising and satisfying.
I really enjoyed this novel and as per usual the author keeps the readers guessing.
I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Another fantastic book from one of my favourite authors, this dark and twisty read with great characters you just knew from the beginning that things were not as they should be.
I was hooked from the very first page until the brilliant ending just couldn't stop reading.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this great ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending, 5+* from me.
Lottie has just moved with her husband and young son into the grounds keeper 's cottage when he is given a job on an estate called Seascape. They saw this new job opportunity as an attempt to give their family a fresh start. Their son had been bullied at school and Neil had been put of work since a serious accident a few years previously had sidelined him. So this seemed like a most fortuitous opportunity for all of them, to begin anew.
Until it wasn't.
Strange going ons up at the main house and the owners over the top interest in their young son gets Lottie's hackles up and her mother protective shield firmly in place .
The story is is a little slow for me and the back story a bit contrived but it did have some intriguing bits of mystery here and there.
I thought the characters were fairly well defined but the plot wavered for me just a bit too much.
Really good opening with definite "pull you right in" intriguing plot setting. I was disappointed it did not stay that way to the finish and took a few too many exit ramps for me.
Wow, this is another brilliant book by KL Slater. Lottie, Neil and their son Albie move to a cottage in the grounds of Seaspray House where Neil has been given the job of taking care of the vast grounds. Tom and Neeta live in the large house but Lottie can't really take to the couple and finds them very odd (I totally agreed with her). A terrific story that gets more and more gripping as the book progresses. Well done Kim this is another 5 star book, can't wait for the next one. Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for this arc.
K.L. Slater, The Bedroom Window, Bookouture, 2023.
Thank you, NetGalley, for this uncorrected proof for review.
Although I have given this novel 3* as I did for the previous K.L. Slater I reviewed (The Narrator) this is an instance of where a half * would have helped provide my true star assessment. I found The Bedroom Window disappointing in comparison with The Narrator and would have liked to give it less than the 3*, but it does not deserve only 2*.
My disappointment is partly based on the unappealing nature of the characters. Lottie, Neil and their son Alby move to Whitsend where Neil is to begin working as the manager of a beautiful estate. This is a new start for the three of them: Neil has recovered from a devastating accident; Lottie is no longer responsible for his care and can begin thinking of returning to work; and Albie has a new start away from a school in which he was bullied. The location is beautiful, the cottage in which they will live picturesque, Neil’s employers friendly and the job everything he wishes. What could go wrong?
The prologue makes it clear that something does. But the figure in this introduction is unnamed so as the characters enter the story it is a mystery – who is cleaning a house covered in blood? The characters who become known through two story lines, one set many years before, and the present, are developed in detail. Unfortunately, this detail is unappealing. Lottie is prone to jealousy, an active imagination, spying on her neighbours, and unable to control this or her reactions to events. Neil is immune to her feelings, weakly spending time working or socialising to the detriment of Lottie’s state of mind and their marriage. Albie becomes fixated on the couple in the big house, Neil’s employers, and the treats they offer.
Likewise, in the story from the past, none of the characters is particularly engaging. Charlie and Clair are friends but their different economic backgrounds leads to the disruption of their friendship. Clair’s mother is harsh and rejects Charlie’s desperate appeals for comfort. Charlie’s behaviour becomes questionable, but Clair maintains the friendship in secret. Charlie’s domestic situation becomes worse, and her mother disappears.
The stories eventually coincide, dramatically and with twists. However, I found the story and its resolution implausible. The twists seemed forced, and the characters’ behaviour at the end too unlikely.
How different this is from the first of K.L. Slater’s novels that I reviewed. This was The Evidence. I finished my review of The Evidence with the following:
'Yes, as the blurb advertises, there is a twist. Its cleverness lies in the way in which the groundwork is laid so it is a plausible twist rather than a simple resolution for dramatic effect. There are too many novels relying on a description that refers to the value of the ‘twist’ that in some cases is quite implausible, a twist for the sake of it. The Evidence is not such a novel. Throughout the narrative K.L. Slater makes a persuasive case for the events and outcomes - we just need to look at the evidence'.
On the strength of the cleverness and well executed twist in that novel I shall certainly give this writer another try.
.
Hooked from the beginning! Before I even finished this book I was already recommending it.
The only reason I dropped one star is because sometimes I felt myself rereading parts thinking I had missed something. At a few points it almost went off on a tangent and I struggled to understand the point to the current part of the storyline.
Other than that it's a fabulous read and thank you for allowing me to review this.
I enjoyed this book. Full of twists and suspense.
Plus the story flowed. I will recommend it to anyone who loves psychological thrillers
Lottie and Neil and their little boy Albie have just moved into the caretaker’s cottage on the grounds of the grand Seaspray House, where Neil has landed a plum job as head landscaper. It’s their chance to have a fresh start after a rough couple of years, and things look really promising. The windswept sea views are incredible and Seaspray’s owners, Ted and Neeta, seem so kind and welcoming.
Lottie has a tendency to be a nosy neighbor and it’s not long before she’s spying out the cottage window with binoculars trained on the big house. When she starts seeing some strange sights, she immediately puts a sinister spin on them. Lottie is immediately suspicious – something definitely seems off at Seaspray!
K.L. Slater is a must-read author for me, and The Bedroom Window is an example of her strengths. Her writing style is so compelling, expertly crafting an unsettling atmosphere that it draws you in. The gradually increasing sense of unease in this slow burn, dual timeline suspense kept me turning the pages – I was just as determined as Lottie to find out what Ted and Neeta were really up to!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me an advance copy of this book.
KL Slater has knocked the ball out of the park with this gripping psychological thriller.
Unlike many writers of the genre she builds a strong and believable narrative around the victims so that we invest in them emotionally. The twists keep coming, and it's hard to predict them, such is the inventiveness of Slater';s plot.
Characters are hiding secrets but Slater manages to hold on to some of them until the end, while keeping us engaged and enthralled.
Another 5 star review for KL Slater from me.
Note to Publisher
I'll be posting a review on my blog and GoodReads on May 19 and will update the links.
My Review:
Loved!!!!! What another fantastic read by this fantastic author. I have read almost every single book by her now. Only a few more left to go. I have enjoyed them all and this one is no different. I can’t say enough great things about this author and her books. She is definitely the Queen Of Suspense in my opinion. I picked up her book Blink and I never looked back. I knew then I had to read every single one of her books. Ok now let’s talk about this book for a minute. This one had me gripped and on the edge of my seat the entire time. All the characters were shady and had something to hide. I love when this happens and love trying to figure out what is really going on with all of them. I also like the way this author writes her books. She makes you feel like you are right there in the book with all the action. This is how every author should make their readers feel. You know you’re a great author when you do this. Now on to that shocking ending. I would have never guessed this one. Not in a million years. It had so many twists that you did not see coming. I had to race to finish this one otherwise I would have gotten nothing done unless I did. KL Slater what another terrific book by you. Keep them coming and I’ll keep reading them.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Getting a new book from Kim is like getting the best Christmas present ever! I have loved all of Kim’s work, she gets better and better! She is so clever at weaving the narrative with seemingly ordinary characters then you get a massive twist!
I’d put Kim on a par with Lisa Jewell for writing prowess!
