Getting a new book from Kim is like getting the best Christmas present ever! I have loved all of Kim’s work, she gets better and better! She is so clever at weaving the narrative with seemingly ordinary characters then you get a massive twist!
I’d put Kim on a par with Lisa Jewell for writing prowess!
This was a good take on the not knowing what goes on behind closed doors trope. I didn't particularly care for any of the characters but still wanted to know how the story ends and the secrets each of them kept. This was a good story with a pretty surprising ending but I wanted more. It felt rushed by the time it reached it's conclusion and some things weren't fully explained and the things that were, could of used more detail. Overall, this one was enjoyable and gets Three Stars from me.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.
The Bedroom Window by K.L. Slater kept me riveted from beginning to end. Ms Slater is an automatic read for me, and I just devoured this latest in a desperate bid to slot all of the diabolical pieces into place.
Lottie and Neil and their young son Albie are starting over following a difficult period in their lives. Neil has secured a job as a caretaker at Seaspray House, and the family will live on the grounds of the vast estate. But Lottie quickly feels that something is off with their new landlords Tom and Neeta. Why, for example, do they refuse to let their new neighbours into their home, and if they are childless, why are there various toys on the property?
This is K.L. Slater at her finest, crafting a sinister tale that is tantalizing with red herrings. I loved every word.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for an ARC.
I loved this book! I have read almost all of KL Slater's books and this was written with alot of twists and turns. I did figure the twist out early on which was a bit of a bummer. The Story and pace kept me hooked. While I figured out the twist early on , I did have some unexpected turns in the book! This was not my most fave of hers but I did enjoy it! 4 stars
Absolutely amazing. This brought up so many questions and curiosities all of the way through to the final page. Once I started j just couldn't put it down.
I loved the character definition and development throughout the book with peices of information bring revealed as it went on
Lottie and Neil have a great opportunity to rebuild their lives following Neil’s work accident that left him housebound before making a miraculous recovery. However all is not as it seems! Great book that gradually builds unease and a sense that something is very wrong. Only downside was that I found the ending to be a bit far-fetched and unbelievable.
A decent story line.
Full of unlikeable characters, some more difficult to work out than others.
I had guessed one part of the story early on but had to read almost to the end before everything else was made clear.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
Overall an enjoyable drama.
I wanted to enjoy this book, but it just didn't work for me. I really struggled with it. I couldn't get fully invested in the characters or storyline. Perhaps it was due to overdetailing which caused lulls or the fact that the writing style just didn't work for me. Lottie had too many unlikeable qualities. The ending was okay, but it didn't make up for the other shortcomings.

This the 19th book I have read by this author and never a dud found yet!
This story is set in a ‘sweeping sea and fresh air location’ but in the ‘big posh house’ near the front there is a cloying decay in the air, something ‘not right’ and people who question it are dismissed outright….enter Lottie,Neil and Albie, new start, new home, new job, new life…and all thanks to the Ted and Neeta ( owners of the posh house ) who can’t do enough for them
The book cleverly lays red herrings and I thought of multiple scenarios as to what was going on….all wrong 😀
Lies, secrets and subterfuge are in abundance as little by little the heinous truth of what is occurring comes to light
The skill of a good author is to always keep you engaged and unable to NOT finish a book as you have to find out what is happening, as always Kim Slater does that throughout
A chilling and fascinating surprisingly dark tale

This is a great, twisty novel that had me second-guessing until the end! Lottie and husband, Neil move with their 9-year-old son, Albie to a beautiful bluff where Neil has been hired as a caretaker for Ted and Neeta's home and gardens. Neil's accident has left him a bit disabled but he's anxious to work again and this is the perfect opportunity as the couple adore Albie and allow him access to the tree house and "movie room." But Lottie has her suspicions when she sees things (with binoculars) that don't add up. Told from "then" and "now" perspectives, the book seamlessly integrates so many different scenarios as we are led to the final reveal about "why" and it's amazing! Love Slater's books and this one tops the charts!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
A wonderful book… It is an absolute triumph! One of the best books I have read all year… I started reading this last night and finished it this morning. I couldn’t stop. Fabulous author and great storyteller.
KL Slater never disappoints. The atmosphere in this book is dark and foreboding and deliciously twisted. You've heard of the unreliable narrator. This book has multiple unreliable narrators. I didn't particularly like any of the characters. But the writing kept me engaged throughout. Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for my ARC.
Well this is a creepy tale. Lottie and her husband Neil pack up sticks and move with their son to a seaside town for Neil’s new job. After a terrible accident and months of recovery he is finally getting his life back and as ground manager of the Seaspray estate they all think this is a dream come true but why has Lottie got such a bad feeling about the owners of the main house and why are they never invited past the doorstep. As memories from Lottie’s troubled pass begin to surface is appears no party is being completely honest in this story but maybe the truth is even darker and more disturbing than anyone could imagine.
I continue to read and enjoy KL Slater! I believe I have read every single book of hers and she just never disappoints. This book had great characters that kept me turning pages. I love the creep factor!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
This is an enjoyable domestic thriller. It has a darker plot line than many I have read but that made it more frightening and difficult to put down. None of the characters are particularly likable, so the drive to finish was to find out all the pieces of the puzzle. I would not have guessed the ending. Recommended for lovers of domestic thrillers. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC of this book.
My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together.
But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to? And why can I hear a lullaby drifting across the garden when I’m tucking my own boy into bed?
Then, one night, I see a small shadowy figure in their bedroom window…
I thought I’d learned my lesson about trusting the wrong people, but now I’m forced to wonder what this perfect couple are hiding.
I so wanted to like this book. As soon as I started it I was overwhelmed by the flowery prose. I found it extremely difficult to get into this book and struggled to finish it.

This book is intriguing from page one…it is mysterious. The characters are secretive. The setting is ominous. The red herrings abound. This talented and gifted author has written a page turner. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the author. I had a difficult time guessing some of the secrets. I had a difficult time discerning what the characters were thinking. This author puzzled me. Do not try to guess the ending. Never in a million years would I have suspected what happened. Unbelievable. Enjoy this book.
This book is the perfect example of what a domestic noir should be!! Where to even start?!
The plot is unique and original. It's layered and cleverly written so all the subplots converge perfectly. Ot never gets messy or complicated and thought out the book, the plot keeps moving forward.
Ots told over multiple timelines and povs, again all well defined and kept seperate until the very end where they come together seamlessly and without leaving any plot holes
The characters are well written and real. They have flaws and faults and secrets and mistakes. Noone is who they seem and you don't quite know what's going on u tol the author ways you to know. And even them, its so much more than you'd ever have expected
It's got a good pace and there are no filler paragraphs or chapters. Everything in the story is relevant, even of you don't realise it at the time. It's definitely a world where nothing is as it seems and what you think is happening, its just the tip of the iceberg.
To say this is an example of perfect storytelling and of the thriller genre would be accurate. Ots a sheer delight to get lost in the story and it had been the perfect way for me to spend my sat afternoon in the sun.
This won't disappoint any thriller fans, its a must read!!
