THE PERFECT HUSBAND By Danielle Ramsay

How do you know if you've married the wrong person?
It was a whirlwind romance and we had the perfect relationship.
He was my dream partner, loving, caring, attentive… until the day I married him and things became toxic.
I spent my wedding night in A&E with an ‘unexplained’ broken wrist – but I knew what happened….
My romantic illusions shattered. My fear of the future heightened.
The man I had fallen in love with wasn’t the man I married.
And that was just the start of things to come.
Quickly things escalated. He isolated me from family and friends, and with no one to turn to, he began to control every part of my life.
I tried to escape, but he watched my every move.
Until one day he went too far, and I found my strength to fight back.
I no longer wanted to be a victim.
I wanted to live.
I wanted my life back.
But at what cost?
In sickness and in health and till death us do part…

😊What i liked -

✔ Mystery/Domestic Thriller/Inspired By A True Story.
✔ I was on edge throughout the book.
✔ As it says inspired by true events, the abuse gave me the chills.
✔ There were many places I was getting antsy, wanting the protagonist to run out.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ Though I liked the book, I was angry and disturbed.
✔ The ending was good but it was too similar to a movie i watched many many years back.

“The Perfect Husband” is a gripping, disturbing read. Sophie thought she had found her dream man in Jay. A whirlwind romance leads to a seemingly perfect relationship. But after marrying him, things took a dark turn. The man she fell in love with wasn’t the same person she married. Toxicity seeped into their lives, and Sophie’s illusions shattered. As her fear of the future intensified, her husband’s controlling behavior escalated. He isolated her from family and friends, watching her every move. She desperately wanted to escape, but she felt trapped.

Then, one day, he went too far. Sophie found her strength and decided she would no longer be a victim. She fought back, determined to reclaim her life. But at what cost?

This story centres around Sophie and new husband, who rapidly turns into a controlling abuser and is apparently based on a true story.
This is not going to be a read for you if domestic violence and other connected topics are a trigger, but the author handled these topics well.

I found this to be a fast-paced and although heartbreaking read, strangely compelling.

Definitely a crazy thriller read! I started out not knowing where this one was going to go but then realized that it was going to definitely be a suspenseful read, which I love. The ending was fantastic. Must read for thriller fans!

This was a heartbreaking book and a real eye opener to Domestic Violence and how manipulative and conniving the abuser can be towards their victim and the victims families.

Sophie believed she'd married the perfect man, but sadly he shows his true colours on their wedding night which ends up in a trip to A&E with a broken wrist, things just go from bad to worse from there for Sophie.

A true eye opener to domestic violence and how hard and dangerous it can be for the victim to escape the clutches of their abuser.

An emotional and powerful book.

This was a very upsetting book to think a man can get away with everyone thinking he is the perfect husband and his wife does not appreciate him and all she does is drink all day and run him down.
Thanks netgalley for this book which was a real eye opener to learn about how the perfect husband can be anything but.
Sophie had married the perfect man he was everything she wanted and she knew he adored her.
Except on their wedding night he broke her arm and from then on it was a downward spiral to domestic
Abuse.
No one believed Sophie he was so perfect how could it possibly be true,
Things got from bad to worse but Sophie got determined not to be beate

Inspired by true events, The Perfect Husband is the shocking and sinister new thriller by Danielle Ramsay.

After getting her heart broken by the man she thought she was going to be spending the rest of her life with, romance had been strictly off the table for Sophie – until she had found herself swept up in a whirlwind romance by Jay. After just a few months of knowing him, Sophie had agreed to marry him and she thought that she had a bright and rosy future ahead of her with a kind and caring man. But the ink is barely dry on their marriage certificate when Sophie realises that the man she married is not the same one she had fallen head over heels in love with.

Her romantic illusions are immediately shattered as Sophie spends her wedding night in A&E. As the weeks go by, Jay begins to take over her life and he starts to isolate her from all of her family and friends leaving her completely at his mercy. Sophie is alone and wholly dependent on him, having to spend her days trapped in a toxic environment from which there is simply no escape. However, Sophie has had enough of being a prisoner in her own home – and of her cruel jailer. Sophie wants to be free of Jay and she is willing to do whatever it takes to get her life back. But how far is she willing to go? And will in sickness and in health and till death do us part end up taking a completely different meaning for Sophie as she struggles to unshackle herself from the stranger she had married?

Dark, disturbing and twisted, Danielle Ramsay’s The Perfect Husband is a chilling thriller that will haunt readers long after the last page is turned. Danielle Ramsay’s creepy and unsettling chiller is one that will keep readers glued to its pages. Tense, terrifying and unsettling, The Perfect Husband explores toxic relationships and domestic violence and is a nail-biting read that is certainly not for the faint-hearted.

I did enjoy this book though I did become frustrated at times with the main characters, but I guess that's not a bad thing being engrossed in the story that much that I felt what the characters felt!

Sophie's new husband, Jay, becomes evil after their wedding, causing her to isolate herself from family and friends. This heartbreaking book is based on a true story, and the author does an amazing job writing about a sensitive topic. Sophie's inability to stand up for herself and her inability to leave the same night of the wedding make her feel exasperated. The book is heartbreaking and serves as a reminder that anyone can be a victim of domestic violence, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, faith, or class. I recommend this book.

"We live in a fantasy world, a world of illusion. The great task in life is to find reality"
The book The Perfect Husband is totally paradoxical and deals with quite contrary subject compared to its title..The subject of marital and domestic abuse is very under-mined and quite important to be written about. I applaud the author to address such grave topic.
However from a reader's POV, I felt many details quite repetitive and main female character Sophie to be quite stupid to fall for the abuser so many times. She is full of self doubts when it comes to her abusive husband. That part was disappointing to read.
Although author emphasizes on the fact that abuse victims often feel it is due to their own fault whatever is happening to them which is basically nonsense.. It is necessary to highlight to the young generation so even though it has triggers, I recommend it to young readers

How do you know if you've married the wrong person...?

This is my first read by Danielle Ramsay and what a read. It conjures up plenty of emotions and comes with a few trigger warnings, which does make it tough to read at times, but once you get past those triggers you won't want to put this one down!

TW: Domestic abuse, sexual assault, gaslighting, death of a pet

So many women find themselves in similar situations with a deft sleight of hand that they don't even know the trap they are falling into. Such is the case with Sophie. She was engaged to be married to Ben but when he suddenly broke it off she was left adrift. And then she met Jay who swept her off her feet and the two inevitably walked down the aisle. But her wedding night is not the veritable one of one's dreams. Sophie finds herself in hospital after Jay broke her arm in temper but instead discloses that Sophie was drunk.

Things only go from bad to worse and at times I felt like I was banging my head against a brick wall, yelling at Sophie. As the reader we could see Jay's gaslighting her. And his ability to chip away at her sanity, her memories and everything she held dear. Honestly, I don't want to say much more - as some books are best if you just go in blind - but you need to read it. If you can get past those triggers, you will find this to be a compelling and addictive page turner.

I would like to thank #DanielleRamsay, #Netgalley and #BoldwoodBooks for an ARC of #ThePerfectHusband in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book. It reminded me of Freida McFadden’s writing. I will definitely pick up more books by this author to read in the future.

I can't put it in words how mad and anxious I was all through the book. OMG! how insane and toxic was he?
I'm disgusted by him and by the fact that this kind of toxic relationships do exist and people who do not know better DO actually suffer a lot.
this book is somehow an exact example of how a manipulated relationship is look like. and it's very very very hard to read only duo to the naked truth lying between every line. oh...
Please, please if you are in an abusive relationship know you're not alone, just rescue yourselves, be you own hero and cut the abuser off, there are so many programs that could support you. just don't stay, you deserve way better than that.

Sophie has the perfect relationship with her loving partner, Jay. However, on the night of their weddings things quickly change. Sophie spends their wedding night in the emergency room for a broken wrist. Sophie quickly realizes Jay is not the man she fell in love with - he is mean, aggressive, and controlling. He isolates Sophie from her friends and family. Sophie is alone, with no one to turn to for help. She knows she needs to get away from Jay, but lacks the resources. Jay is controlling every part of her life.

Overall, this is a heartbreaking read. I felt for Sophie and was horrified reading about Jay and his actions. It is disturbing but the author nails it with the reality of domestic abuse. As with many domestic thrillers, I was frustrated with our main character at times. I kept thinking, "what are you doing!" However, I think this is often the reality in life, when an abusive partner isolates the other partner, cutting off all their resources.

The author did an excellent job tackling many difficult subjects. Looking forward to more reads by Danielle Ramsay!

It’s certainly worth looking at the trigger warnings before reading this one as it’s hard hitting from the outset with a strong theme of domestic abuse and coercive control throughout.

It’s very well written; tense and nail biting with a vile central character in Jay. Much of the narrative is told through Sophie’s perspective and her inner dialogue as she questions Jay’s behaviours and begins to doubt her own recollections due to his manipulative actions.

What makes this even more chilling is the fact it is based on a true story and it’s easy to see how events could spiral. The author has dedicated the book to all survivors of domestic violence.

A gripping read.

With thanks to the author, Rachel at Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to participate in the tour.

I was going to give up on this book when I was about 50% in as I thought it was so far fetched and unrealistic view of domestic abuse, but apparently it’s based on a true story. Disturbing but gripping.

Quite the engaging plot. Plenty of twists and turns. Chilling descriptions of abuse and gaslighting (and there's pet's death which I absolutely HATE in my reading, and put that here for others who feel the same way). I feel the backstory between these two could have been a bit more fleshed out, but I enjoyed this and feel thriller lovers would also.
