Im not going to lie, this one was tough to read because of how frequent the physical and verbal abuse was, coming from the husband. I liked how we could see the FMC inner thoughts throughout, but the way she constantly gave in to him was wild. I kind of expected the ending, but I didn’t hate it lol
Just defining a big trigger warning for abuse!
Utterly and overwhelmingly dark and really quite traumatic and hard to read at times, this story really has great impact. The narrative of absolute typical domestic abuse is shocking and humbling and told in expert detail, from the isolating of the victim from her family to the complete control, chipping away at her self confidence ad gaslighting until she was unsure of her own recollections.
I found the telling of the story compelling, especially as the main character uses her own inner voice to talk reason to herself, something I recognise myself from times of intense trauma. In that sense it is utterly relatable despite, thankfully not having experienced anything along those extreme lines. It is incredibly terrifying not least because it is entirely plausible and real to some people. Definitely food for thought and edge of the seat stuff, I doubt I’ll sleep well tonight, chilling to the core
This book was a very quick read. Had some areas of suspense.
I was very annoyed with the main character and tried to push those feelings aside as I recognize the reality of what domestic abuse can do. So in that sense the book was very effective in portraying the effects of abuse and I was super proud of the main character closer to the mid to end point of the book.
Sophie meets Jay, the perfect everything and thinks life could not be sweeter. She's is still inwardly mourning over her past relationship with Ben, who she had thought was the love of her life.
Until Jay, who quickly became the love of her life: the perfect boyfriend and husband.
Until he wasn't.
He breaks her arm on their honeymoon night and things rapidly spiral downhill from there.
The story goes forward as he works to isolate her from family and friends with false promises and heart wrenching apologies.
That she falls for.
Over and over.
Too much so for me.
Not great depth of character builds and the plot was too repetitive.
This book is text book example of domestic violence. That being said, I understand it's hard for victims to leave, but she is really really dumb. I also don't believe the police would be so dumb to actually believe the abuser and make it look like the victim was the problem. That being said, this was a good thriller. I would def read more by Danielle.
The cover of this book really drew me in. The writing was good, but I have never seen so many stupid people in one book. I work in the criminal justice system in the USA and the cops would never ever be that stupid in believing the abuser when he said he was moving etc. Good for Sophie for standing up for women everywhere! I will def read more books by this author!
This was was a great thriller I hadn’t read any of this authors other books but I will now be doing that.
Sophie ex boyfriend Ben were due to be married before Ben suddenly calls it off. Heartbroken Sophie meets Jay who sweeps her off her feet very quickly they have bought a house together and now they are getting married. Everyone around Sophie thinks it’s too quick but Sophie is in love. Then on the night of their wedding Sophie is in hospital. Jay broke her arm in temper but tells everyone that Sophie was a bit drunk what has Sophie got into and how far will Jay go. Fantastic book which had me hooked from the first page until the very last. Will definitely be recommending this to all.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an early copy of The Perfect Husband. WOW, Just WOW!!!!!!!! I mean it was a bit far fetched but then the epilogue told a whole different story and if I read it right then again just WOW!!!!! Domestic abuse ran rampant in this novel. Very sad.
My Review:
Enjoyed!!!!! This is my first rodeo with this author and it certainly won’t be my last. That blurb drew me in like a moth to a flame. I couldn’t help but pick this one up and non stop read it until it was done. The chapters flew by as I was so engrossed in the story line. Who wouldn’t be intrigued by a book where a man takes things too far and the woman finally fights back. It was great. I loved everything about this book. The characters were all written perfectly for the story. The plot kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Then there was that awesome ending. It totally rocked in my opinion. In fact, that ending is what made me love the book. It left me shocked and speechless which is so hard to do. I can’t wait to read more by this author.
In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it 5 Hearts❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
A great book that was addicted enough for me to keep on reading, my first book by this author I will be reading more.
my 1st book from this author and so enjoyed very addictive. Sophie had a boyfriend Ben they were going to get married, and Ben calls it off. Sophie is a writer a good one well known. Then she meets Jay who sweeps her of her feet they have bought a house together and now they are getting married. her sister and mum think it's too quick. Then on the night of their wedding Sophie is in hospital. Jay broke her arm in temper but tells them at hospital Sophie was drunk. I won't. say no more but this is so good!
Brilliant I loved it from the first page, definitely one of my favourite authors of 2023 and I can’t wait to see what’s next
Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an ARC of this book, in exchange for my honest opinion.
First and most importantly, I will say are the trigger warnings. Some of the material in this book was extremely difficult to read; including, rape, physical abuse, mental and emotional abuse, gaslighting, stalking, and violence.
This book was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. Sophie meets Jay, and after a whirlwind courtship they marry after only eight months of dating. On their wedding night Jay abuses Sophie for the first time, and what follows is the devastating timeline of their first month of marriage.
My heart broke for Sophie and all the different types of abuse she suffered at the hands of Jay. But the ending was satisfying, and made me proud of her.
Again not an easy read, but the story was riveting.
Holy crap on a cracker, this book was absolutely insane and I mean that in the best way possible! Twists, turns, none of it you ever saw coming!
The Perfect Husband is crammed with suspense and tension. Newlyweds Jay and Sophie spend their wedding night in A&E, not exactly romantic. Sophie quickly realizes their marriage is based on lies and distrust but questions herself and downplays her experiences. The rollercoaster story takes place over a span of just three weeks and is about deceit and abuse which at first is obvious to concerned family and friends but not to the abused spouse.
Though riveting, the premise is predictable. There are frequent question marks at the end of many of Sophie's statements. Still, the writing and characterization hooked me enough to care about how it ended.
Dark domestic suspense readers may really enjoy this. Do know there is quite a lot of adult language.
My sincere thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for providing me with an early digital copy of this engrossing novel.
The Perfect Husband, I was ok. It seems as though I read this book maybe 10 times, the others have different names. Nothing much to really keep my interest. I did finish it, but it was not much that was not an addictive psychological thriller.
Wow! Great book! My poor heart is still pounding! Geez what a book! This book was filled with suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, gas lighting, revenge, abuse, so many different ways of abuse! And lots of twists and turns! The storyline was very very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! This was definitely a page turner! I highly recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!
This book had an interesting premise but I found it really too predictable. The whole story takes place over a few weeks and exactly what you think happens, happens. I actively try not to figure thrillers but this one I couldn’t help it. Unfortunately I found my mind drifting too much to stick with this one and did ultimately end up skipping much of the story.
Thank you to the publisher for this e-arc in exchange for these honest thoughts. I look forward to reading more in the future.
I have read a lot of psychological/ domestic thrillers and this is by far one of the worst I have read.
I read many books sent to me by Netgalley, electronically, such as this one, written by a talented and gifted author. Thanks to the publisher and the author. I liked this book. I really liked this book. Not only does it portray an abused woman, it does it in a realistic way. The images make this story come alive. Although this is fiction, it reads like nonfiction. This book would make an excellent movie. This is a novel that warns women to be more careful when choosing a mate. It explains that all is not always what it seems. Abuse is real. The warnings are there, but women must look for it. Again,I really liked this book, one of the best I have read about abuse. If I could give this book more than five stars, I would. Be prepared for a surprising conclusion. I would never have discerned what happened without the hints. As an aside, the main character is an author, and I liked that also.
