I sadly could not get into this book which is a shame because I usually love all Lizzie Lane books but I didn't connect with the characters at all.
This is the first book in a series written by Lizzie Lane. Set in Barbados in 1818 it is about the Strong family and a tragedy that happens one night on an island that is a "paradise." Full of twists and turns the book will keep you drawn to it until the end. I'm quite sure the other two books in the series will keep you interested as well.
A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.
The first in a new series, I loved this book. Full of interesting characters and set in Barbados and Bristol. I enjoyed how the story unfolded and will be pleased to read the next one in this series. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Daughter of Destiny by Lizzie Lane
A brilliant author who's books I love reading.
This is the first in a series of books based on the Strong family.
The first few chapter are pretty hard hitting but essential for the story to unfold.
Very strong characters ( pun intended )
and I look forward to reading the next in the series.
I have rewritten this review three times so just bear with me a servant is raped by the three strong brothers in during the Tristeza murder because she witnesses it they promise to keep her in her own home for the rest of her life. She winds up pregnant and gives birth to a daughter named Blanche. When the boys grow up Jebediah becomes a Reverend and does what he can to make amends for the unfortunate murder of the Butler in keeping with his religious beliefs him and his wife helped to feed and clothed homeless children near their England home they even educate the boys and give them a home aboard the ship Miriam that is also the school. When Jeb‘s son goes missing and assume dead he starts having dreams about another blonde hair blue-eyed boy that comes in the form of Tom. They take him in and eventually love him like this Sunday lost he grows up to be smart strong virol and handsome Edwin‘s oldest daughter who is a righteous B, is in love with him but he doesn’t feel the same. After viola passes away her daughter is sent to Bristol but it isn’t as a long lost family member but to be the nanny of Edwin‘s younger children she is excited about this prospect because she is in love with Nelson Edwin‘s oldest son and thinks they are to be married. When she arrives she she is taken aback to be treated like a servant but she is even more determined to find out which brother is her father. Tom seems to be the only Strong family member that is nice to her she makes friends with another servant name Edith and her new friend is amazed at how strong minded and determined blanches and how she doesn’t take disrespect from anyone. Needless to say the women in her new family dislike her immensely and insist Edwin send her away but knowing what he knows and she knows he does not. When Tom helps the chimney sweep get his son who is stuck in the chimney down he also brings down the dead body of Jeb’s long dead son but he doesn’t tell anyone what he’s found after all Jeb is on the verge of dying and he takes it upon himself to find out what happened to him. Blanch despises her new home and wants to go back where she came from but she has to see Nelson first the longer she is there however the closer her and Captain Tom become but he won’t be her only romantic interest. There is so much more to the story and I mean way more and OMG is this story good I am not really a person who likes Siri‘s but I cannot wait to read the next book I have a feeling Edwin‘s daughter is going to cause trouble and that there is way more to come with Captain Tom, Blanche and the rest of the Strong family I hope you have made it to this point in my review and just know there are many keep plot points I have left out only because I don’t like long reviews and don’t want to write something no one will read I hope this gives you a good idea of how great the story is it has mystery romance twist murders ET see everything you want in a great book is in this book Lizzie Lane has definitely outdone herself by far I totally am obsessed with this series and can’t wait to get to the next book. I’ve received this book from NetGalley and Boldwood books but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
I was out before the end of the first chapter. Rape, murder, and thoroughly unlikable characters gave me no reason to move on. Writing style was also not to my taste. Cannot fathom why these are being republished under a different name, other than to such in New buyers with a pretty cover.
This is the first book in the series and after a slow start i was hooked and happy i had the follow up books ready to read.
Firstly thank you Netgalley for this Arc
Another brilliant family saga in this series can’t wait to read more by this brilliant author
This was a good story about perking together to overcome obstacles. My favorite part of the story is Blanche and the kids it sdca lot of story's in the story. It kept you wondering what was going to happen next. This book was approved by netgalley and the publisher for me to read and review.
The first book of the series and my first thought is that it is a very long book and it took me a while to get through it. It is the story of the Strong family. There is a tragedy back in 1818 and the family moves away to escape and leave the past and the secrets of the past behind.
Blanche Strong is now a young adult and wants answers and this is that story. But it also involves the three Strong brothers who are all strong characters and have many secrets as well. This is a good book and is interesting and intriguing with much description (maybe too much for me and the reason this is such a long book) but I did enjoy it non-the-less.
I look forward to reading the next in this trilogy but do hope it isn't quite as long.
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Wow, what a read! 3 brothers who have many secrets between them, the more important ones have shaped their lives.
The Strong family carry the name forward in the business world and by nature.
The eldest Emmanuel has an ambition to grow the family business and pity help anyone who gets in his way, Otis aims to please his elder brother, falling in line with any plans he makes. Than Jeb who has a softer nature .
The brothers are used to servant about the house and decide to make “use” of Viola in other ways!
The outcome brings forward “The Daughter of Destiny”.
Loved the strong characters, great descriptive writing. Favourite character was Jeb.
Then the icing on the cake, it’s the first in a trilogy.
