Ellie is thrown in to another serial killer case, this time with a twist. There is a lot going on in this story, kidnapping, murder and lots more. When a young girl goes missing it leads to the discovery of tow bodies who have been dead for a long time. Ellie works again with Cade and Derrick and it looks like her complicated relationship with them both is only going to get more complicated. I liked how Ellie seemed a bit stronger in this book. She wasn’t being assaulted at every turn and loved how they all worked together as a team to solve the murders. This book jumps back in time ten years but everything follows through to present day. I worked out a couple of the twists but not all of them and it was definitely an intriguing and action packed read. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Another great book in the Ellie Reeves series, I love how in each book we get to know a little more about these wonderful characters. This book was full of so many twists and turns, and that ending, can’t wait for the next book. Thank you Bookouture and Netgalley for my arc.
Another heart stopping, action filled thriller. Once again, the characters were extremely well developed and the plot flowed seamlessly from scene to scene. This thriller was a bit more sinister than some, with lots of twists and turns and surprises. There were many characters and the way they were all connected at the end was shocking. Could not put this book down, had to know how everything was going to end. Highly recommend. Can be read as a stand alone.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I do really like this series, but I wish that the author would consider making the chapters longer and not having as many chapters in each book.
Another great book in the Ellie Reeves series, the ideas and stories continue and was just as good as the first 7 books, brilliant
This author has the ability to make me shiver each and every time. She creates the most disturbed characters on earth in my opinion and the books are creepy, creepy, creepy.
And I can say with my hand in my heart, that she has done it again. The short chapters make me feel like I am on the TGV and I don't mind that. I wanted to keep on reading and reading and read some more.
Ellie is a tough lady. She does not mind having to go in a physical fight with someone. I loved it when she said it did hurt, of course, but that it was part of the job. So, no need to moan about the pain. Wow. :)
As in every series, here too we are allowed a glimpse in the main characters personal life. For those who have read the previous books, know about her love life. I, for one, thought she is involved with the wrong one. Each and every book I hope she will see the light. The question is, did it happen in this book...?
I love books where you think everything has been revealed, but where you have to think again because the author has another surprise in store or maybe some cliffhanger to make you go oh no? Did the author treat to one of those or maybe both or non at all? That for me to know and for you to find out. :)
I loved it and was shocked by it at the same time. 5 big stars
Thank you
Widow Lake by R. Herron, published by Bookouture is book 8 in the Ellie Reeves Series.
For ten years a little girl and her relative are on the run.
For ten years Special agent Derrick Fox is hunting a serial killer.
For 1 hour Detective Ellie Reeves is looking for a missing 4 year old girl.
And then there's Cord, a troubled Ranger with Search and Rescue.
All of them get rooped in a case that is unfathomble, beyond every measure and brings danger to all of their doorsteps.
A complex, complicated story full of twists and turns. The story ends in a cliffie and I didn't like that this much. Ok, all in all, the book is great and the cliffie thing may be may own issue, but I can't just get Cord, Derrick and Ellie out of my head.
A lost little girl on the AT opens up long-held secrets and horrible deaths in Widow Lake, the newest Ellie Reeves novel by Rita Herron. After reuniting a little girl with her family, Ellie and Cord find a car submerged by a bridge. The body inside leads to another... and so many secrets. Ellie, Cord, Bryce, Derrick, and more are thrown together to solve these murders whilst a ten-year college reunion is happening - graduates are ascending on the college campus. Holy Cow! Where Ms. Herron ended this book - I cannot wait to see what she has planned for Ellie next. Thank you to Bookouture for an advanced reader of the book. The opinions expressed are my own.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Widow Lake by Rita Herron that I read and reviewed.
I absolutely loved this Ellie Reeves book even though the very end made me so mad if made me want to spit. I was so excited with how the last book ended I thought that Ellie and Cord may finally get their act together then you have to do this Rita Herron. All I can say is not cool. I am really starting to not like this soap opera between these two. We all see they need to be together. Put your readers out of our misery we hate Lola so please don’t do this.
Now for the rest of the book. I loved Lorna Bea and felt so bad for her and what she went through in this book. This child was a victim you had to love and cheer for. And the last scene with her was one that really tears at your heart.
This book was an excellent read from start to finish and I am giving Widow Lake five out of five stars.
This was a very good read. Lots of twists and turns. It’s a large cast of characters. I really liked that it’s not your typical serial killer book. The writing is wonderful. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.5 ⭐️
I’m going to start off…I really enjoyed the complicated plot of this story. I knew certain things but it didn’t detract from the story. It was a fast read.
Now I’m going to do something I never do. This is book 8. And for me (this is my honest opinion) the drama with Cord and Ellie is just over done. It’s obvious to us all. And yet…
And I thought finally…then the end it gets blown up again.
I don’t do spoilers. So I won’t go into details but I gotta say I was annoyed at the end. Because after this many books it’s time. And now…
I read a lot. And it just seems the series could be just as strong with a definitive path. One that also allows her to understand him and help him. (I’m team Cord) Ok…I’ll stop.
One more thing…
It’s just I’m not looking for a soap opera when I read crime thrillers. Not this late in the series. I like a bit of romance but strong characters can create great reads too. All this angst is just not for me.
Addictive and relentless! Best installment of the series yet - complex mystery with red herrings everywhere, and a solid cast of characters that suck you in. You won't be putting this one down.
Another great book in the Detective Ellie Reeves series! Cord, Derrick and Ellie are back and on the hunt to find who is murdering and kidnapping women. How is a serial killer in prison tied to the new killings? So many twists and turns in this book. Every time you think you have it figured out the author throws in another person to add to the mystery of who is the serial killer. Ellie uncovers so much more then just a simple serial killer. I would recommend if your looking for a great series with suspense to start reading this book #8 was another great installment in this series. Definitely would recommend 100%. Loved!
There were so many characters that it was a little confusing to put them all together. Especially with the short chapters. But the author tied them together nicely; just took awhile. Little long for me. but overall another good Ellie Reeves story!
Welcome back Detective Ellie Reeves! This series is one of my favorites, especially to buddy read with my bestie as we gasp about the crazy plots and twisty moments.
This is book 8 in the series. If you haven’t read the others, you can still read this as a standalone, but you’ll feel much more connected to the characters if you have read the prior books.
This time, Ellie is called in to help find a missing girl. While searching, she and Ranger Cord McClain find a car submerged in Widow Lake with a body inside, and a whole new mystery begins. As Ellie and the rest of her crew investigate, women go missing and they are forced to look into some cold cases from years and years ago. I don’t want to give anything away about the plot, but let’s just say it played with plenty of terrifying plot points, from black widow spiders to child abductions to creepy home invasions.
I adore the main characters from this series. Ellie is a complete badass, strong female character who cares deeply about her job of protecting people. Derrick and Cord are both back as well, both determined to keep Ellie safe and fighting their own internal demons.
The setting along the Appalachian Trail felt so sinister and atmospheric this time, as our crew were forced to watch for snakes and spiders while hiking in the woods searching for missing girls or bodies.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Widow Lake has been by far one of my favorite of the series thus far, and it just keeps getting better and better! I have loved this series from the get go, and this one was just explosive!
I don’t even know how to sum up the plot because just so much was happening, and it all tied together in a crazy ending. While I suppose you could read this as a stand-alone, I highly suggest reading the books in order to get full character development and back stories. Still waiting for more resolution on the love square that’s been happening throughout, and can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment!
Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture, and Rita Herron for my ARC in exchange for my honest feedback.
It took me a few chapters to get into this book since there were so many characters. But I ended up liking it. Lots of murders and evil. Detective Ellie Reeves is on the scene to investigate along with others from previous books. The cliff hanger at the end has me anxiously awaiting the next book.
This one is the darkest yet and I couldn't put it down! I love Ellie and her team. This investigation is complex and full of suspense. Just when I thought I had it figured out there was another shocking twist. And then that ending! I almost threw my kindle while growling in frustration! I've got a suspicion where things are heading and it involves the two characters I love to hate so I'm very excited for the next book! This series is at the top of my must reads.
Widow Lake by Rita Herron is book #8 in the Detective Ellie Reeves series. This is one complex, convoluted murder mystery. Talk about true evil! Detective Ellie Reeves and Special Agent Derrick Fox have a tough, dangerous investigation on their hands. All the usual characters from the earlier books in the series are part of this story. I really admire and like the good guys. I had a little trouble getting into this one initially with all the various characters having chapters, but this does have a thrilling storyline. I did not like the mini cliffhanger at the end but I still enjoyed this book.
I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
I loved this book. Read it in a day! Admittedly, having read others in the series I'm now invested in the main characters. In my opinion they could probably be read as standalone, but I recommend reading the entire series. The characters are likeable, the settings described so you can imagine them and the plots are always different. I can't wait for the next book in the series
