I love the Kim Stone series! As it gets longer and longer, there are fewer surprises and things are more predictable, but still very enjoyable.
A great addition to this series. Another puzzle to be solved by Kim and her team who work well together. In particular Stone and Bryant have great rapport
Deadly Fate Angela Marsons
This is book 18 in this series, which in itself speaks volumes, and this series just gets better and better.
I love Kim Stone, and always will read the next installment with even reading the blurb, another solid read.
If you haven't read the previous ooks in the series, seriously where have you been! This is book 18 and whilst yes this can be read as a standalone I would absolutely read the previous ones because they are such a great series and you know the backstory for the characters. Anyways back to the book/review, this one features two main themes guys, psychics and stalking!
The book opens with the murder of a psychic and there kicks off the investigation by Stone's team. As the book goes on we quickly find that someone has a murderous hate for psychics and this is just the beginning. We have a separate "case but not a case" of a dead homeless man whose identity is unknown and if you know Stone you know the minimal Stone likes is for the dead to at least have their name so as a side thread that is going on. Whilst investigating the psychic a stalker comes up in their investigation and Stacey finds some disturbing info, could this be our killer?
I love the banter/camaraderie with the team especially Stone and Bryant, they are so different and compliment each other as does the team to be fair. The research as always is bang on and woven in to go smoothly and seamlessly with the story. Like I am a fan of psychics and one of the characters in the book debunks them and goes into detail on how they manage to do what they do, I find that so fascinating. The stalker stuff, I am shouting RED FLAG RED FLAG, why why why to X character, pulled right into the story as always. Despite being eighteen books deep Marsons manages (in my opinion) to keep you hooked and invested in the characters, even when you get annoyed you are absolutely invested and questioning why X character is doing XYZ behaviour(s).
I think this book is setting up some bits for the next book and as always we are always waiting with bated breath. Also the pathologist guy, whilst he doesn't make huge appearances in the books I do enjoy their character and their *relationship with Stone. Here is to the next one 4/5 for me this time.
Thank you Bookoutre and Netgalley for another in the Kim Stone series.
I love this series - I am totally hooked.
Deadly Fate definitely did not disappoint. Great storyline, as always good and familiar characters plus new ones and as always great twists and turns.
There are only two in the series I haven't read and I must buy them.
I totally recommend the whole series.
I absolutely love this author and the Kim Stone series and her team. All of them have their own appeal. Bryant is like my favorite book uncle, you just know he’d give great calming advice.. one of the things I love about this series is there is never a really long wait for the next one. This is a series that benefits greatly from reading them in order for the character build up.
I always have fun catching up with DCI Kim Stone. She's come a long way since I read SILENT SCREAM almost 10 years ago. She would glower at me for writing that inside no matter how hard she is towards the world, deep down inside she's a big SOFTIE. If she were not, her team would not work with her, especially Bryant.
I'm a big fan of the Kim Stone series, having read many (but not all) of the books in this series by Angela Marstons.
Deadly Fate did not disappoint. Interesting storyline, good (and familiar) characters plus the usual twists and surprises from Angela!
Really enjoyed this, I'm now going to catch up on the few I havent read while waiting patiently for the next in the series!
Standard Kim Stone fare. Several; mysteries going at the same time. My one negative is the storyline with Stacy. It didn’t feel realistic how she reacted to her situation (Avoiding spoilers) there is an interesting look at the psychology of those whom visit psychics.
Overall enjoyable read.
I always love it when somewhere local to me is mentioned in a book and Cannock Chase is in this one. It's around 30 mins drive away from where I live.
Once again, I can't believe the writing skills in these books.
I think Angela Marsons is some kind of magician to create these brilliant storylines with Kim Stone the Detective.
I get the feel of Vera in the scenarios she finds herself in but without the humour. Serious storylines with a serious issue to go along with it. The detective side of these books are fab and I think they should be turned into a TV series, unless I've missed something and they already are.
This is another great detective storyline with a whodunnit flow. I had an idea of 2 people who possibly could be doing the killings but I'm always surprised when I find out so it's always intriguing to me.
Once again Angela Marsons hits the jackpot in this amazing addition to the Kim Stones series. 18 books in and they are still fresh and every one is an absolute page turner. Brilliantly written, totally gripping, highly recommended. 5 stars all the way
This is the eighteenth book in the series featuring Detective Kim Stone and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Kim is called out to a church graveyard where the body of a woman who has been viciously murdered has been found. Sandra Deakin, the murdered woman, was a medium who undertook private sittings. Her last one was with a group of women the night before she was murdered. Could one of them be capable of committing this murder? Kim soon realises that this is a complex case as all the women appear to be lying. When there is another murder Kim and her team realise that there is more onto the case than they originally thought and they may be dealing with a serial killer. This series of books gets better and better and I can’t wait for the next one in the series. A highly recommended read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
As usual another excellent book in the Kim Stone series. Such a great story line with twists you don’t see coming and right up until the end of the book. Such a joy reading these books as I love getting to know more about each character. Would recommend anyone that enjoys a psychology/crime thriller to start these books
Having read the previous 17 books in this series, I pre-ordered "Deadly Fate" and it was definitely worth waiting for as with all Kim Stone books it was truely brilliant, can't wait for the next one.
I honestly don't know how Angela Marsons does it! With each book she manages to surprise and entertain us. I will never tire of the Kim Stone series of books- brilliant storytelling, amazing characters who now feel like friends and clever plots. A simply sensational series!
Back with the team that Kim Stone runs is like going back home for a visit. Bryant her ever solid right hand man, Penn and Stacey and a murder case takes us right back into the heart of their lives. Sandra Deakin is found dead in a horrific manner and the team learn that she was a reasonably well known psychic. They need to work out if her job played apart in her death, and who would commit such a horrendous attack.
The fact that the murder victim was a psychic plays a key part in this book and it unravels a lot of personal feelings among the team as they each try to determine their personal views on psychics. In addition to the first murder, Kim also wants to learn more about the death of the homeless John Doe. Stacey ends up running a lot of background for the Sandy murder and in turn ends up crossing paths with somebody that I think her life difficult!
The team work tirelessly and as usual they end up with a result, and not one I entirely saw coming. As usual these books are so well plotted, packed full of threads and characters that you love. I am thrilled that this series shows no signs of slowing down even after book 18! I particularly liked the ending of this book and cannot wait to see how things pan out in the next one.
Thank you so much Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
There are hundreds of reasons why I am grateful to Netgalley. Among them, the one that always comes to my mind at the first try is that it introduced me to Angela Marsons and her legendary characters - Kim, her wonderful crew and their significant others. If I could, I would rate all of her books 20 out of 10. They are just that good.
This time, we are dealing with a serial killer who seems determined to take down the psychics. The writing's top-notch (as usual) while the idea is well fleshed out. I don't know if I should be mad at Stacey. Mad as in I only want her to be safe and secure mad. I understand where she's coming from but I desperately wish she talked with someone. I am DYING to read what happens next. Also, DO NOT PUT KIM THROUGH MORE MISERIES. The last parts of The book - they almost gave me one or two heart attacks. But are the ever going to make me stop reading? nope. I love it when my heart races as I try to figure out which route Kim's going to take. It's like being on drugs but better. Highly recommended!
honestly can’t believe this is book 18 in the Kim Stone series. It doesn’t feel like five mintues ago that I read the first book. Eight years later and this series is still going strong. I struggle to find the words for my reviews because I feel like I am repeating myself. But Marsons doesn’t have this problem at all. She always delivers something fresh and exciting keeping the reader on their toes. Did I mention that this is the only series that I have stuck with too?! never a dull moment with Kim Stone…..I tell ya!
Like I have said many times before I love that it is set in my neck of the woods THE BLACK COUNTRY. So I aways know the area the story is set. But for those of you that don’t know round here Marsons decribes it perfectly. I always feel like I am catching up with old friends.
Deadly Fate is again another addictive read, I couldn’t but it down. I loved that this book is mixed with physics. Adding that fresh vibe to the plot. Like I mentioned before. It is something that I find really interesting, you’re either a believer or your not…..and I believe! It actually made me smile in a strange kind of way haha.
She certainly doesn’t disappoint. I love her style of writing and character development woven cleverly into the plot. What ever will she bring us next?! I honestly can’t wait and I will continue to keep reading this series just as long has she keeps writing them…..this book and all the others are flipping brilliant. I wish someone would get this series on television. It would make incredibly entertaining show. You guessed it, it’s another 5 star read from me.

This is absolutely my favourite book in my favourite series of books! Just, WOW! I was transfixed from page one and didn’t want to put it down, but I also didn’t want to finish it too quickly so I took my time. While Deadly Fate functions perfectly as a standalone novel, reading it as part of the series will give better character backstory and context. Trust me; they’re all amazing! The skill of the author to hold your attention on every page is evident throughout and I was even thinking about the story when not reading. What a roller coaster of suspicion, anxiety, and emotion. As usual, my amateur detective skills proved useless as the twists were many and complex and kept me guessing all the way to the end.
I think in my first review of a Kim Stone book I wasn’t sure I liked her, but she quickly grew on me and now she’s my favourite Detective. Bryant is her long suffering partner and second in command, and is the gel that holds the team together. Stacey and Penn complete the team and bring the technical and research skills which keep the investigations moving forward.
Overall, this was a brilliant book which I recommend to readers of crime fiction, and as a great introduction to the genre. I gave Deadly Fate, by Angela Marsons, five stars, and cannot wait to see what happens in book 19.

Angela Marsons continues to pen excellent crime thrillers staring DI Kim Stone. In Deadly Fate, Kim and her team are trying to find someone who is murdering pyschics. The first victim is found in an overgrown cemetery by the local priest. The murder had been vicious, so Kim was sure this death was personal. She had led a séance the night before, so that is where Kim begins her investigation. This leads them into a deep dive of the psychic world, going to shows, meeting with an author who debunks psychics and eventually befriending some of them. They know that the women at the original séance were lying about things, but was one of them capable of murder. When more psychics end up dead, it becomes a race against time.
Deadly Fate might be the 18th book in the Kim Stone series, but each book and case is as good as or better than the one before it. It amazes me that Angela Marsons comes up with such interesting cases for each story. I found the psychic storyline very interesting, learning about the tells they use and the type of information they can use to make it look like they know what they are talking about. The one thing I liked was how many people leave these shows or readings feeling good, and that is a positive even if it is fake. There was also a John Doe that they were trying to identify and DS Penn was on that case. Stacey was being stalked, so there was a suspenseful and scary storyline there. I love seeing the full team in action and when all these cases/plots come together it is so satisfying. With all the clues and investigation shared with the reader, I had a lot of suspects but did not guess the killer or the motivation for the kills until all was revealed. Another excellent story in this series. I can't wait for the next book in this series.
