Psychic, Sandra Deakin’s life came to a premature end in an overgrown graveyard, just as the bells were ringing - this was no peaceful passing, as Sandra had suffered multiple stab wounds with a final slash across her mouth. Whoever had done this it certainly looked personal and undeniably frenzied.
It’s Detective Kim Stone’s job to discover who could have hated Sandra so much. Was she killed by an irate client, not happy with a reading she’d given? Shortly after Sandra’s death, a young man working in a psychic call centre is found outside his place of work with the very same injuries as Sandra’s, including the slash across his mouth - it turns out that both Sandra and the call centre had been named in an article about frauds.
The race is now on to find the killer before they target anyone else.
Book 18# in the series and I’m still as invested as I ever was! The storylines are always gripping, but it’s the regular characters that raise this series to another level, Kim’s team - the fact that they really care about each other, have each others backs, and are familiar enough to share lots of banter without anyone being offended. Loved it!
Thiss was my first netgalley book to review, and Wow, what a book. The subject is something I'm interested in, and, at first, I thought it was going to spoil what I believed in, but, no, it's been made all the more real. The ending I think is quite sad for the perpetrator, Kim Stone is a force to be reckoned with, strong with a huge heart. The ending definitely suggests another instalment. I can't wait.
I loved this! Although I should think that’s a bit obviously from the time it took me to read, and the five stars.
I really love Kim, and I enjoy the rest of the characters too. I really need to go write on Angela Marsons fb page now, to ask how long we have to wait, after that ending!
Can’t wait for the next book! Even more than I usually feel when I finish one of these.
Wow now on book 18 in this series and another terrific read. This story is based on the world of psychics, I still don't know whether I believe in it or not but what an interesting read. The ending was a OMG and has me desperate for the next book. Absolutely love reading about Kim Stone and her team and Angela is such a brilliant author keeping the reader gripped all through the book. Please hurry up with the next book Angela. Another 5 stars from me. Thanks to Bookouture and netgalley for this arc.
Another brilliant book in the series, they just keep getting better and better, I love the Kim Stone series one of the best I’ve read
If someone would have told me 8 years ago when I picked up the first Kim Stone book (no#1 Silent Scream) that I would still be completely and utterly enthralled when book no#18 landed on my lap I've got a feeling I'd have rolled my eyes because come on.... by now series's that are so far down the line are a bit boring, slow, samey, tame even... aren't they????
The answer.. NOT ON YOUR NELLY! Once again Angie has managed to win the title of Queen of British Crime Thriller and I've got to say it.. THIS is my most favourite of all time!!!
The utterly unique subject matter of Psychics/Mediums totally had me in its grip, the amount of research into this subject was so clearly evident and took me on my own path of learning... wow... what a subject to delve into. It felt so new, so fresh and so riveting I could not for the life of me put it down.
A woman is found savagely murdered in a church graveyard and not only murdered but grotesquely disfigured, Kim Stone and her amazing team are tasked with finding out the who, why's and where's. Just when they think they are on the right path another victim is found. Why is someone attacking these innocent victim's and disfiguring them so badly?
Alongside the main thread of this book there are also three side stories. Kim manages to pick up the investigation of a 15 year old schoolboy that went missing 15 years ago and is presumed murdered. Whilst Kim believes the case was dealt with correctly she just has one of her feelings and can't let it go until she has the answers.
Penn is dealing with a case of an unknown and unnamed vagrant man found dead in an underpass. Kim, always believing that everyone deserves to have a name sets Penn the supposedly quick task of finding out who he is and where he came from.
Stacey, whilst doing her thing and digging the dirt manages to get herself in the middle of something she doesn't know how to get out of *NO SPOILERS* - the cliffhanger this was left on had me hanging by my gnawed fingernails.
As always each and every part of this tale was weaved so intricately it was totally flawless.
As always 5* just isn't enough. If you haven't yet read this full series SHAME ON YOU!
The biggest hugest thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
Book 18 of the Kim Stone series and are we finally starting to see the series slow down? Dow be daft, of course we're not! This book is just like all the others...absolutely fantastic!!! If anything, it's better than fantastic!! We are back with DI Kim Stone and her team - Bryant, Penn and Wood - and they are investigating the brutal murder of psychic, Sandra Deakin. When other victims are found, also connected with the psychic world, there's obviously a link, but what and who is the killer?
I cannot resist a Kim Stone book and will always move all the others out of the way when I know I've got a new book of hers to read! The storyline jumps straight into the action with the murder of Sandra Deakin. We are kept in suspense as to why Sandra was murdered and, of course, by who, but we are given lots of titbits to Sandra's and the other characters pasts! As normal, the dynamics between Stone's team was amazing! I've always loved the banter between Stone and Bryant, but am now equally loving the relationship between Stacey and Penn as well! Not only are they all so close, but they work really well together and it's great to see all their individual skills coming together to solve the case! As the book moves on and more bodies turn up, the storyline becomes more and more puzzling, to the point where I'm left wondering how on earth everything ties together!
I honestly have no idea where the author comes up with her ideas for the storylines! This one was original, gripping and held your attention right from the first page. The main characters are all so likeable, and as we're 18 books in they feel like they are part of the family. The supporting characters are not always as likeable but pivotal to the book and still manage to keep you hooked into where their stories are going. There are other storylines running alongside the murder investigation and these are equally as riveting! I honestly couldn't see where these were heading and whilst you know all would become clear in good time, I couldn't even hazard a guess as to how!!
This was a completely original, ingenious and unusual plot which I would never have expected! The amount of research was great and I found out so many things about my local area! Yet again, living in the Black Country, it was exciting to read of so many places that I knew well and i loved being able to picture them as I read! Being a library worker, I loved seeing Stourbridge Library having a mention, but next time can it be Wordsley as there's a fantastic Senior Library Assistant working there (that's me in case it wasn't obvious!!!) I was captivated by this book, reading it in every spare moment. Loved how it all ended and I can't wait for book #19, even though my heart is in my mouth at the thought of what lies ahead for a certain character! Kim Stone is the best detective going, Angela Marsons is the best crime writer around! What more can I say! Fab, fab, fab!
Kim Stone and her team investigate the world of psychics when a woman is killed in a local churchyard. When another person is killed in the same manner it becomes clear that someone has a major grudge against anyone claiming to be psychic or offering psychic guidance. Along the way Kim begins to investigate the disappearance, and suspected murder, of a schoolboy who disappeared a decade earlier - she's convinced that his friend's story isn't truth. Meanwhile Penn investigates the death of a homeless man and stumbles across a major fraud.
This series just keeps giving - each book is a fantastic read.
Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and Angela Marsons for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Another five star read featuring Kim and the team. This series gets better and better with every book. I enjoyed the do they/don’t they argument about spiritualists and mediums and loved being shown the ways they can con their victims. I can’t wait for the next book to find out how they deal with the stalker.
This book was another hit from the author. Each book in this series keeps getting better and better. A book filled with tons of mystery and suspense. This is a book that I would recommend to others.
Unlike most long running series this one just gets better and better. Hooked from start to finish. Just brilliant.
Omg talk about a roller coaster read wow this book kept me on the edge of my seat through out I just couldn't put it down this writer keeps you hooked and once your hooked your not letting go I found this book thrilling the characters were fantastic and well thought out and the little clues all the way threw keep you guessing until the end this book stays with you long after you close the book this book is well worth the read I promise you wont be disappointed.
Thank you for this advanced copy which was a great read, I had trouble putting this down! This series just keeps getting better!
The 18th book in and what an amazing read, Angela Marsons has treated her readers to a dark and twisty story based in the world of physics which even for a skeptic like me was interesting. This series just keeps getting better and better with every new book and I can’t wait for book 19. If anyone hasn’t read any of this series, they’re definitely missing out.
How does Angela Marsons do it? Eighteen books and her plots are still as fresh and exciting as ever. I loved that there were really three cases going on here, it makes it more realistic. I imagine no police team has the luxury of taking just one case at a time. I was really shocked when the murderer was exposed and even more so when I learnt what their motive was. As good as this was though, I think the second story involving Stacey is more thrilling especially as it is obviously going to run over several books. I can't wait for the next installment.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
Although I enjoyed this I usually absolutely love Kim Stone series, I couldn't quite get gripped by this as I usually do.
A murdererer killing psychics and two other cases are being investigated by all the team. Each time Stacey and Penn are given more independence and I enjoy there development.
A scary underlying story hints as to the next book.
Deadly Fate is the 18th book in the DI Kim Stone series and they get better and better. As always this story is immensely readable, well constructed with a cast of great characters old and new.
A woman is found viciously murdered in a church graveyard, stabbed eleven times and also has her mouth slashed. When the investigation begins they find out she is a psychic, hated by the local vicar and has been receiving threatening emails from an anonymous source. When another murder occurs soon after with the same pattern of inflicted wounds they realise the killer is out for some kind of revenge.
As usual there are other cases that need investigating and these all thread together well
Throughout the book there is another cause for concern for one of the team and when everything appears finalised there is a twist at the end that is horrifying.
I hope this author will write quickly, I am on tenterhooks for the next book.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.
Book 18 and as incredible as all those before it. A psychic is found brutally murdered in a graveyard. It doesn’t stop there. Kim and her team (with a lot of investigating) find the culprit. I did not expect the ending at all. Lots of red herrings. The characters are fabulous. Read this book and if you haven’t already, read the entire series. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
Firstly I would like to thank netgalley, and Bookoutune and one of my favourite authors Angela Marsons for an early copy of her book.
This is book 18 in this brilliant series, what a read from the start.Kim Stone and her team on a case of a womans body found at a graveyard. She had a brutal wound across her mouth.kim and her team trying to find the culprit when another murder of someone from a call centre for psychics as the first victim gave readings was that the connection?while stacey another member of the team is being watched by a stalker who becomes obsessed with her.what a brilliant ending leading up to book 19..I cant wait for the next instalment going to be exciting and intense like all her books...highly recommend this series. A brilliant author.
This book will be reviewed on goodreads, Amazon UK,and waterstone's.
Wowsers! I’m once again blown away! Angela Marsons has brought us Kim Stone for the eighteenth time and it’s just as captivating as all the previous. The author brings consistency, a strong unique storyline, familiar characters and a cemented police team to us time and time again without any weakness. This author has a seriously wonderful writing talent.
The newest novel brings to the forefront a topic that’s had many people debating it for years! Can psychics really talk to the dead? It really makes you think about your own thoughts on this and I loved how the author highlights this through various elements of the story making it really intriguing. I loved that psychological ‘need to know’ element of the topic fascinating and really brought the for and against into focus as you progress through the story.
The killers MO was brilliantly dark and the image it puts in your mind is certainly grim ... This is one of the things I love about Angela Marsons writing; its as graphic as needed, it’s explained well and the rest is left up to the readers imagination.
With duel cases as part of the main storyline, I loved the parallels of this with various team members, the flitting back and forth through the team keeps tension and conflict throughout and one element of this had me feeling nervous for one of characters.
As always this book ends on a cliffhanger which just turns up that eagerness we all have for the next when we finish another Kim Stone case. I’m already so looking forward to learning more in the next book.
An intense storyline, great complex characters and well delivered conclusions!
Fabulous once again and as I always say after reading another instalment: I can’t wait for the next Kim Stone novel!
You know you’re reading an absolute belter of a book when you wake up at 5am and your first thought is ‘I need to finish this book’. Once again Angela Marsons has produced a fantastic novel. DI Kim Stone and her team are on the hunt for a vicious serial killer seemingly targeting members associated with the psychic community. With an unsolved case also potentially linked, Kim and her team are working as fast as they can to prevent more deaths. It’s a pacy thriller that grabs you from page one and keeps you enthralled to the end and leaves you with a nice little precursor to what book 19 may contain. A fabulous five star read from my favourite author. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
