Another fab Kim Stone book, which I inhaled in one sitting this afternoon - I don‘t know how Ms Marsons keeps doing it!
This one is about psychics and, like all the other books, I love how everything about the subject gets explained as we go along but without seeming obvious.
And this one has a cliffhanger at the end….or maybe you‘d call it a hangover to the next book. 🤔
Book 18 and it starts off with a bang, well not really a bang but the blade of a knife. Someone is killing psychics and Kim and the team try to figure it out before more die. How are the new murders linked with cases from the past?
And the end… can’t wait for the next book.!
Book 18 in the DI Kim Stone Series and it’s as fresh as ever. This time Kim and her team are investigating the death of Sandra Deakin, a psychic, who body was found in a churchyard with multiple stab wounds and a rictus slash across her mouth. Alongside this main investigation there are three other semi unofficial cases; finding the identity of a John Doe so his body can be buried by his family, looking into a missing boy from 15 years ago and investigating a man who stalked a women until she left the country to escape him. This is what I love most about this authors books, the multiple cases are so brilliantly written you can easily follow them all without confusion.
Briefly, when a second body is found similarly stabbed with the same slash across their mouth, and they find he worked as a telephone psychic, it seems they have a motive for the killings. The team are all working on the murders hoping to prevent more murders but investigating the other cases as well.
The team dynamics are as always well done, they really are a great team. The discussions around the psychic ‘industry’ was quite revealing and clearly well researched. Do I believe in psychics? No but I would never say never. The twists and turns wrong footed me more than once and I loved how seamlessly the threads came together. Another wonderful read but oh that cliffhanger! How long until the next book please?
#DeadlyFate #NetGalley This is book 18 in the DI Kim Stone series and whilst it is perfectly capable of being read as a stand alone, it does help the reader to know a bit of the background of Kim and her team. This book was absolutely gripping and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. As well as the main crime - the brutal murder of Psychics - there were two other investigations running alongside which made this even more interesting. lots of action and twists and turns but the end left us with a cliffhanger in relation to Stacey. I don't love cliffhangers - mainly because I have no patience to wait for the next book in the series! So please, Angela Marsons, hurry up with Book 19!!!
Deadly Fate by Angela Marsons is a complex novel. I always look forward to reading this author’s twisty novels. There is plenty going on in Deadly Fate. Someone is committing gruesome killings, there is a John Doe whom Kim would like identified, and a stalker who takes a fancy to a member of Kim’s team. The murders have the team delving into the world of psychics. Kim even brings in a consultant so they can understand how psychics work. It was fascinating getting a look “behind the curtain” at see how psychics operate. The story grabs you right from the beginning. There is plenty of tension and suspense as Kim, Bryant, Stacey, and Penn work to catch the killer. Tink is back to help the team. She is such a sweet woman. Barney makes a couple of appearances as well. I was able to solve the main mystery before the solution was revealed. I had fun following the team as they interviewed suspects and searched for clues. There is a good twist that many readers will not expect. Kim has Penn working to identify a John Doe that Keats brought to her attention. Kim does not like unidentified bodies, which is a fact Keats knows. Stacey finds herself in a dangerous situation. Stacey is at the forefront of this book. I was surprised at how Stacey handled the situation. The author did something unusual at the end. She left Deadly Fate with a cliffhanger. It is going to be a long wait for the next book. I like how Kim and her team work together. You can tell that they have worked together for a while. They know each other’s quirks, strengths, and weaknesses. I like the scene between Kim and Tink at the end. Deadly Fate is the eighteenth DI Kim Stone novel. It can be read as a standalone, but you will be missing the backstory on Kim and her team. It helps to know Kim’s history. I do want to warn readers that Deadly Fate contains graphic violence (the killer was brutal) and foul language. There is some repetition of details as well. I enjoyed reading Deadly Fate, though, I was disappointed with the ending. Deadly Fate is a tense tale with macabre murders, a serious stalker, psychic predictions, a John Doe dilemma, a call center killing, and a determined detective.
#18 in Marson's outstanding Kim Stone series, this one sees multiple psychics being murdered with a deep, gruesome cut across their mouth. Lots of suspects brings lots of police procedural as Kim and her team rush to find the culprit. Thanks to Net Galley, Bookouture and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Wow what an interesting and complex plot line. Angela has yet again delivered a fabulously relatable detective investigation into 3 separate strands which weave together in such a clever way, I don't know how she does it!
There's not so much about Kim's private life in this one ( which I like) but plenty of interesting characters and we get to find out a lot more about Stacey on her team.
Absolutely brilliant.
10 stars! Fast paced and complex mystery with well developed team that just keeps getting better the more we know them. The lowdown on fake psychics was a fun perk. Red herrings everywhere, you won't put it down until it's over ... or is it?
Wow what can I say this series just gets better and better. I knew that once I had started to read this everything else would be put on hold. Absolutely love reading about detective Kim stones latest exploits
This is book 18 in the series and explored the themes of stalking and the world of psychic happenings. The characters and storyline of these books are always superb and keep you in suspense throughout.
Can’t wait for book 19. .
The 18th book in the DI Kim Stone series, and whilst it wasn’t my favourite; it certainly didn’t disappoint.
This book is mainly centred around brutal murders within the psychic community.
I just adore the main characters, and by this point I feel like I want to be part of their team.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and of course the author for the advance reading copy in exchange for an honest review.
I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Deadly Fate’, book 18 in the Detective Kim Stone series written by Angela Marsons, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
DI Kim Stone is called out to the church of St John The Baptist where the body of local psychic Susan Deakin is found lying with multiple stab wounds in the graveyard. It soon becomes apparent that someone bears a grudge against psychics as Susan isn’t the only one to be found dead in similar circumstances. As Kim and Bryant investigate, other minor cases come to light that Kim isn’t comfortable leaving, while Stacey has a problem of her own.
‘Deadly Fate’ is another amazing thriller in the series that’s grabbed my attention from the start and kept me totally absorbed as I’ve tried unsuccessfully to identify the killer. It's a pleasure to meet up again with Bryant, Penn and Stacey who feel like old friends and also Tiffany, the police constable they call Tink, who will hopefully join the team in the future. Once again Angela Marsons has shown her exceptional ability in bringing excitement, intrigue, suspense and twists into each and every page, and although I wanted to know the answers I didn’t want the book to end and would’ve happily kept reading. I can’t praise this thriller enough, it’s worthy of a lot more than five stars, and as the shocking cliffhanger on the final page needs to be resolved I’m looking forward to getting my hands on book nineteen.
One again Angela Marsons has pulled it out of the bag and written yet another book that you can't put down. I love the Kim Stone stories with her and her team and how they go about solving crimes. You are kept on the edge of your seat with nail biting stories. The only thing I get disappointed with is finding that I have come to the end of the book and have to now wait until the next one is written and ready to be read.
Would I recommend her books...oh yes. 100% It gets a full 5 stars from me.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4 reliable stars. I’ve read every book by the author and they never disappoint.
The characters of Kim and Bryant work really well, the only downside that i have mentioned in other reviews, are the rest of the characters. Penn and Stacey’s storylines never really add anything. I feel disappointed when it’s a chapter about them and just want to get to the main storyline.
I enjoyed the theme of fortune tellers which was something different.
The side story about the missing boy was a bit daft and unnecessary.
This book ends with a hint at what will be in the next book - which looks like it may be about Stacey so I may give it a miss.
This is book 18 of this really impressive, and one of my favourite, series. But, and this is important...
Warning! This publisher is renown for back filling books with ads etc. The copy I read ended VERY early (85%). So you don't get caught out, I would really recommend that you find out where the story ends in the version you are reading before you start! This stuff used to irk me but the publisher is what it is and there is no stopping them, so the most I can do is warn the reader!
Book 18, wow. I guess the main reason for it being so fresh is that the author is not afraid to mix things up, which you will no doubt know if you have read all the previous books - and you have, haven't you. You are really missing out if you haven't!
So, we start with a body in a graveyard. Sandra Deakin is found with multiple stab wounds. A very violent attack which, on Kim's first appraisal, looks personal. But who and why?
As her and her well able team start their investigations, Sandra's profession starts to stand out. She claims she can commune with the dead, and indeed, last contact with anyone was a seance she conducted in the home of a client. A good place to start... But then a curve ball. It seems that Sandra was also banned from the church, the grounds of which she was discovered. Coincidence, or...?
And then there's another body... also with connections to communication with the dead...
I love this series. I pounce on and inhale every single book as soon as I spot it available. It never ceases to amaze me how the author manages to "dream up" new cases for Kim et al Every. Single. Time. It's always so fresh...
And, outwith the main crime(s) being solved it's also lovely to catch up with old friends - Kim, Bryant, Stacey and Penn. I say friends, well that's what they are to me. I care about them and love catching up with their lives outside work. And we also have the reappearance of Tink - yay!
Penn also has a little side-case of his own which I also found to be quite current, and poignant, but I will leave him to tell that one.
All in all, a cracking addition to a favourite series. Roll on next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
Even after 18 books, Angela Marsons still keeps coming up with original ideas for DI Kim Stone. Deadly Fate is tthe latest.
"A woman is found brutally murdered in a cemetery, stabbed multiple times. As the team investigates they discover that she was known as a medium who could communicate with the dead. Kim is skeptical about why adults would believe that. When another victim is found outside a psychic-hotline call center the team is pulled into the world of public and private readings and showmanship. When another well-known psychic is found murdered Kim and her team must race to find the killer before more are killed."
This is a police procedural. It's another fast-paced Marsons story that you will not want to put down.
Marsons does a good job exploring the world of commercial psychics. She's better about not over-explaining but giving enough information to move the story. There are a couple of side stories in this book that the team is involved in. One looks like it will be continued in the next book.
More great crime fiction from Marsons.
When Sandra Deakin is discovered savagely murdered in a graveyard near her home it’s down to DI Kim Stone, DS Bryant, and the two DC’s Stacey and Penn to solve the brutal murder. Stabbed multiple times and with her mouth slit this was no random attack - it was personal, and Kim wants to find out why. Looking into Sandra’s life further it becomes apparent she is a medium, and has been receiving threats for months. Could the key to everything be found among the group of women who she had done a final resting for before her murder? Things progress further when it turns out the women have all been lying about why they wanted a reading that night, coupled with information on a person who had written and published an article about fake mediums naming Sandra among others, and a very disgruntled priest with a dodgy past who banned Sandra fro the church Kim and the team know they need to find the killer, more bodies are turning up so there isn’t much time.
I can’t believe this is book 18! This is one of my favourite series, and although I enjoyed this instalment, it wasn’t my favourite. I didn’t feel we had enough build up to the final conclusion this time, and it was a bit slow in parts which isn’t like any of the other books in the series. I didn’t have a clue who the perp was though - but I felt it lacked the usual shock factor and excitement that we are used to. I would still recommend it. Angela is a brilliant writer, I like her style and she explains everything really well and is great at scene setting. Still a 4 star read though x
Can this series actually get any better??!! Another fabulous instalment and brilliant to have a few old characters pop back in. This particular story has an interesting plot based around psychics and their talents. Left wide open for the next book where hopefully Tink will have a bigger part to play.
I cant believe this is the 18th book on the series! I’ve read every book and actively search for when the next one is released.
Another really good instalment in the series, looking forward to seeing if Tink joins the team in the next book!
I received this ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Slight spoilers below ⬇️
I’ve read every single Kim Stone book and every time I read a new one it still feels like a treat, I race through every page and then I’m home again.
Kim with her team of Bryant, Stacy and Penn are back with an absolute bang!.
I could sense something going terribly wrong for someone when I was about 1/4 way through this story and I was hoping I was wrong.
The story has the usual shock and horror plus all the red herrings and the gangs fantastic style of working together, uncovering every secret but this time we have the main investigation and 2 side investigations that are equally as thrilling.
I also enjoyed the conservations around psychics and how they do what they do and is it all falsehood or real?.
I’m undecided.
With the twists and OMG moments I’m itching to read Book 19, I hope I’m not waiting long.
First of all let me say that this is not an impartial review. I declare that I love these books, I have read everyone in the series, and when I finish one, I hope Angela is speed writing the next. I love the settings as I used to live in the areas mentioned I love being able to visualise where it is set, but I also love the characters, they are great so well written and believable. Every plot keeps me guessing and page tapping as fast as I can read. Loved this one just great.
