This book was fun to read, although there were some difficult themes. I liked the slow burning romance and I enjoyed reading about the dates. Michael and Betty were definitely my favourite characters in this book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
I buddy read this with a couple of friends, and oh my god, it was brilliant! Highly organised, spreadsheet obsessed Sophie finds herself questioning her spreadsheets, specifically the romance one, after a disaster of a first date with Dr Michael, who scored a 3 out of 10. When she accidentally sends her spreadsheets to all her contacts, the aftermath follows. Dr. Michael and Sophie find themselves taking part in ten dates to prove her spreadsheet theory does/does not work. Slowly, they get to know each other better and fall in love. This is funny in parts, fun, romantic and a really cute rom-com. I really enjoyed it. A well-deserved four stars from me.
Sophie has a spreadsheet for everything even dating but when its sent to everyone she knows including the men she has rated, Sophie has some apologies to give. Can a spreadsheet really determine compatability with a partner, its time to find out.
This was such a good read. its funny, touching and sweet. You go through a range of emotions through the story. Its a steady build to a perfect ending. Aww i loved the ending so much. What a way to finish the story. The writing is fun and its rare you see a love story with cricket mentioned, not in a bad way. The characters are very likeable but my favourite after the dogs of course was Betty, She was such a legend in this. A fun modern romance.
Sophie is structured and records everything on an Excel spreadsheet, but when she accidentally sends the list of her ‘love life’ to her entire contact list instead of her best friend, she has some explaining to do.
But it may just be an accident to second chances.
I have read a few novels by this author and I am never disappointed, this was a novel with an interesting storyline and characters that develop as you read. I did struggle a little to get into Sophie’s character but I feel this was slightly the point; as the novel goes through to tell us how the main characters find out a little bit about themselves and explains their behaviour.
"If you’re not a ten on Sophie’s spreadsheet, you’re never getting her between the bedsheets." This first sentence of the blurb was everything I needed to read before I knew that I wanted to read this one. I previously read 'Mr Right Across the Street' by this author and absolutely adored that one and this book was no exception! Highly recommend.
Every now and then it’s nice to take a break from the monsters and the mind games and the heart-palpitations of the books I usually read and step into a lighter universe. Was It Good For You is a heartwarming, easy to read and novel take on the enemies-to-lovers trope.
Sophie’s dedication to her ‘life spreadsheet’ is admirable; I could only DREAM of being that dedicated to organisation 🤣 Although, planning your meals and dietary plans for the next 60 years of your life sounds a little too restrictive for me, so I’ll stick with my ‘winging it through life’ plan for now 😁
Speaking of the diet plan, I think that was the only part of the book that frustrated me a little; Sophie keeps saying she wants someone spontaneous and yet this is a woman who will not stray from the meals her spreadsheet tells her she needs to eat that week. Nothing says spontaneity like having to consult Excel before accepting a dinner offer. But all of the characters - Sophie included - are well fleshed out and likeable, the relationships between Sophie and her friends is funny and realistic, and it’s clear that Sophie and Michael are actually perfect for each other.
Overall I enjoyed this, the perfect read for a rainy day curled up under blankets with a bucket of Galaxy Minstrels to hand ♥️
Thank you @rachelsrandomresources and @onemorechapterhc for my advanced copy 🙏🏻
I have really enjoyed several of Kathryn's RomCom stories and the last one, Nobody puts RomComs in the corner was simply brilliant. I kept picturing it being made into movie. Thanks to that book I was super excited to read this next one.
Personally I think there is nothing wrong with using spreadsheets for your private life, but Sophie may have taken it a step too far and her error of sending it to all is one no one should ever make! I get a tummy ache on her behalf just thinking of the horror, but I was thrilled when she came to her arrangement with Michael. Michael was so easy to love and his grandma Betty simply stole the show on more than one occassion and don't get me started on the dogs. I loved the interactions between Sophie and Michael and again kept picturing this story as a movie. I think you are really on to something with these stories Kathryn. They just keep getting better! The characters are real and easy to love. The story made me smile, laugh and even get a little emotional. I would say you hit a home run with this one.
I really hope there are more stories like this in the future.
I loved Was It Good For You. This book beutifully combines rom-com with a dash of angst and the result is a balanced story that kept me reading. I loved Sophie and Michael, two characters that on paper looked to be poles apart Both hadbeen hurt in previous relationships and both were bery cautious about developing feelings, but their approaches to guarding their hearts couldnt have been more different.
Sophie relies on spreadsheets to run every aspect of her life, including her love life, with sometimes catastrophic results.
Michael is a doctor, much loved by his small rural community and often called upon outside of his normal working hours either for emergencies or advice This immediately resulted in his achieving an exceptionally low compatability score on Sophie’s spreadsheet, while also showing just how wrong her whole spreadsheet notion is.
I loved watching these wo fall in love and especially watching as Michael showe Sophie how to relax and enjoy her life free of tiimetables and expectations. This is a truly delightful story.
what an interesting concept! Sophie uses spreadsheets to control all aspects of her life which works well for her until she accidentally sends all the details to all her contacts and the men she has she how she has scored them… oops
and so starts the 10 date plan
a great fun read which took me a while to get into but Sophie grows on you as the book progresses
I always get really excited when I see a new book released by Kathryn Freeman – I know I am going to love every new story – combined with brilliant writing and incredible characters, packed full of chemistry – her books just fill me with total joy. Was It Good for You? is another one of those incredible stories.
Main character Sophie is a planner in every aspect of her life, but not just organised – Sophie has every element of her life documented, scored, and in colour-coded tabs on her spreadsheets. There is not a single part of her life that doesn’t end up being added to her infamous spreadsheets – and that includes scoring her dates, including her disastrous first date with Dr. Michael Adams – who only scored a 3 from Sophie.
After a very unfortunate incident – where somehow Sophie ends up sending her spreadsheet to her entire contacts list – (oops) – Michael gets in touch with Sophie again. After seeing the score Sophie has given, Micahel challenges Sophie to a challenge of 10 dates to prove that love can’t be calculated by an equation or contained by 0boxes on a spreadsheet.
Could love really be on the cards for Sophie and Michael – or will she revert back to the safety of her spreadsheets and miss the opportunity for real love?
Was It Good for You? is another brilliantly written book by Kathryn Freeman. The characters are just beautifully crafted and written with the incredible magic Kathryn is able to do and make all her characters seem so true to life. An absolute must-read from me.
I received an E-ARC with a request for my honest review.
Sophie tries to apologise but instead they strike a deal, that Michael and Sophie will have 10 dates to see if a spreadsheet can determine if you have found the person for you.
Will Sophie find her spreadsheet works? Or will she start to feel more than she expected?
I loved this storyline and fell in love with both characters as they started to become stronger and get past issues they have from past relationships.
There is plenty of humour too as both Sophie and Michael are taken out of their comfort zone, with the dates chosen by the other.
I’m a girl who also loves her spreadsheets, but I don’t think I would ever have gone as far as Sophie, especially the dating tab.
Overall, a heart-warming romantic comedy where ten dates will determine if love can be found through using a spreadsheet.
It's me, not you.
I wanted to like this book because of the spreadsheet-loving female main character, but I just didn't like Sophie. I cannot put my finger on why exactly - partly her obsessive spreadsheets, partly the way she treated other people, partly the booze.
I really liked Betty, but who doesn't?
As this is the fifth novel I’ve read from Kathryn Freeman and I’ve never given less than four stars for reviews, I was optimistic that this new offering would be equally as enjoyable and I certainly wasn’t disappointed!
I loved the premise of this one; with Sophie’s obsession with her spreadsheet threatening to ruin any potential romance before it got started.
The development of both main characters through the series of ten dates was really cleverly done, with gradually revealed details serving to explain their behaviour and attitudes towards dating and other aspects of their lives.
As with any Kathryn Freeman book, there is plenty of comedy to go with the romance and I especially liked Michael’s dry wit and the humour in the text message exchanges.
The supporting cast of characters were depicted well, with Betty in particular being an absolute gem! I loved the scenes at the cricket too where a real sense of community and looking out for each other was conveyed.
Although it’s obvious from the start where the romantic storyline is heading, it’s refreshing to see how the characters discover more about themselves and each other along the way, rather than simply being a tale of opposites attract.
A perfect, romantic, easy summer read.
With thanks to the author, Rachel at Random Resources and One More Chapter for the opportunity to participate in the tour.
Yaaaaas! I LOVE this author, this one is fantastic! It was emotional, hilarious and hot!! 🥵 Sophie’s need for organisation and to live life to the full is the Sunshine to Michael’s Grumpy and quieter, settled life. Both have had past hurt and their journey to healing together is an emotional one!
I am so grateful to @rachelsrandomresources and the publisher @onemorechapterhc for a copy of this book!
I would firstly just like to say a big thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources who very kindly forwarded me an arc copy of this book, for my kindle, in return for my honest review.
Was It Good For You? Is book number eight from the Kathryn Freeman RomCom Collection.
I thought that this book had a great story line and I had not come across anything like it before and I really enjoyed it.
It was a very easy to read book and I found myself speeding through the chapters just so that I could find out what was going to happen next.
Both Sophie and Michael were really good characters and i loved how their story took them from just being friends to that little bit more!!
Overall this was a fun, cosy and romantic read and I really enjoyed it too…….
Trigger Warnings
This book contains:
• Death of a loved one
• Toxic coping techniques for the loss of a loved one
• Cancer, heart attack and pneumonia
• Descriptions of cheating.
Characters
Sophie has experienced some significant trauma in her life that’s left her with some odd habits in her life. Namely, her spreadsheets. She uses spreadsheets to manage everything in her life, including how she rates men she’s dated to determine if she should keep dating them or not.
Michael on the other hand is a GP Doctor in a quiet village. After the devasting end to his previous relationship, he’s become withdrawn to the point that his grandmother (who he moved back in with after a health scare) has a better social life than he does.
Storyline
Sophie and Michael go on a blind date that was arranged for them by Michael’s sister-in-law, who’s also Sophie’s Zumba instructor. Due to some poor communication between them, their date goes tremendously different for each of them which is the catalyst for the drama of the entire story.
Overall Thoughts
Kathryn is an author I can rely on to make me laugh with her outrageous romances and the things that tend to go wrong. And this is no exception.
As I was reading this, I’d find myself chuckling about the various antics and miscommunications occurring between them. And then at other times finding them super cute and sweet together.
While there are definitely some heavy themes discussed, it felt like it was done in a really healthy way where everyone could grow and learn. My only dislike of this is that in the real world most people aren’t so open to feedback and changing.
If you’re up for a laugh alongside some series moments, I think you’ll enjoy this one.
This is the first book I've read by this author but I'd definitely like to read her others now. Sophie runs her whole life according to spreadsheets and has now extended that to her love life. A disappointing date with her zumba teacher's brother-in-law Michael leads to her scoring him just 2.5 out of ten, thereby ruling him out as a potential partner. When she accidentally sends her spreadsheet out to everyone she knows, he sees his score.
This story of how Sophie and Michael agree to ten dates to prove whether or not her spreadsheet approach to dating works is a really fun read. Michael is an especially lovely character, a real heart-throb.
A 29 year old socialite goes on a date with her Zumba instructors brother-in-law. The date doesn't go well and she rates him a 2.5 on her love life spreadsheet. Thats right... spreadsheet. In an unlikely event, she accidentally sends the spreadsheet to her whole contact list, including you guessed it, her 2.5 date. So you can only imagine how that pans out!!
Kathryn Freeman is the queen of light, fluffy romcom novels and like her others, I absolutely devoured this one.
Was It Good For You? Is a lighthearted, he falls first, romance with constant splashes of comedy throughout. Although I didn't always agree with her choices, the FMC was brilliant and I found her life extremely interesting. Dare I say it, but I think Michael might just be the most sincere, kindhearted MMC I have ever read about. The way he talks about Sophie and is constantly there for her is so heartwarming and refreshing to see from a male love interest.
The side characters were hilarious and Grace, Ava and Betty were such a delight to read about.
As with all of Kathryn's novels, this is set in third person which isn't to everyones taste, but I don't mind it at all.
My main reason for 4 stars is simply that I didn't get that 5 star feeling, but I loved it regardless and had the best time reading!
I loved the premise of this one, it was something different from the usual. I was interested in the idea of how Sophie used spreadsheets to organise her life.
I really loved both Sophie and Michael. This was such an enjoyable and cosy read. There were plenty of hilarious moments too. I felt for Michael at times especially after his score on the spreadsheet after the first date.
I do love a good romcom and this one was definitely that. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I’ll be reading the others now too.
Thank you to Rachel’s Random Resources and the publisher for having me on the tour and for my gifted ebook.
Sophie and Michael are set up for a date and it does not go well. Sophie uses a spreadsheet for everything including her dating life so she marks Michael 2.5/10….. OUCH!!
When that spreadsheet gets sent to all contacts Sophie has to do some damage control and explain and apologise and so the premise of the story begins- 10 dates for Michael to prove Sophie and spreadsheets wrong.
I didn’t like Sophie so it was an uphill battle for me anyway, she came across as shallow and self centred and whilst her character develops and grows within the book and shows her backstory to put her character into context I think the damage was done for me.
The book was a little hard to get into to begin with but founds it’s groove once Michael and Sophie start dating, which does provide some very comical romcom and towards the end adds some spice to the romance
I received this book as an ARC for free in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.
