I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
What if the only way that you could protect a loved one was to violate your own personal boundaries? This novel deals with the moral complexities of that dilemma. Julia, an investigator, gets caught up in such a dilemma during a missing person's investigation. Her choices, the choices of others, and the outcomes of both are surprising.
I loved Wrong Place, Wrong Time, so I'm not surprised at how much I loved Just Another Missing Person! I could not put this down. I loved the characters, the turmoil that Julia feels - a stickler about doing her job well and with integrity, but also needing to protect a loved one because of what happened one night. And the twists! This was an "on the edge of your seat" type of book. I didn't come close to figuring any of it out ahead of time, and I loved every minute of it!
This was a delightful thriller. The twists and turns were a complete surprise. I think I have a new auto buy author!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
* Thriller, Mystery
One of my new favorite authors. Great writing that kept me interested, I expected a twisty thriller and I got what I wanted. This is a densely plotted thriller and at times I found it difficult to decipher all the pieces.
4 stars
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this book. I really wanted to like this book, but it was from the point of view of so many different characters that it got confusing. And one of the characters spoke from the second person, while all of the others were first person, so it was even more difficult to follow. The story line was decent with the ending being better than the beginning and middle, but it just didn't do it for me.
Fantastic story! Well-written with well-rounded, believable characters, genuinely tense situations, a quick pace, and a couple twists that will definitely sucker-punch the reader in the best way possible.
I was hooked from beginning to end! Comparing Gillian McAllister's previous book "Wrong Place Wrong Time," this book was just as fabulous. The writing, the character development, the twists and turns, was all so captivating. Already cannot wait for the next one!
Gillian McAllister has become an automatic author for me. A compulsive read, with lots of twists. I really enjoyed this book.
Gillian McAllister is a go-to author for anything psychological and twisty! "Just Another Missing Person" was great!
It was alright, I think certain readers will definitely love this, but the story just wasn't for me. I couldn't get into the plot and I struggled to go back to the book every time I put it down. Still, I'm sure others could find it interesting and worthwhile.
This is another book that I read recently that shocked me by the end. I have this tendency to try to predict how a story is going to end and I love when I can't guess what is going to happen. That's how I feel about this author's books. Lots of twists and turns and beautiful character development. Julia is a cop that is also a mom and a wife, who loves her family. She gets put in a compromising situation and has to decide if she is going to protect her family or stick to her values and integrity. The last chapter is what got me the most though (I won't spoil anything). Seriously so good and highly recommend if you like thrillers and suspense novels.
Entertaining as always. Gillian McAllister is a consistent first purchase for collections where thrillers are popular.
This book starts slowwwww. It was tough for me to push through and get to the good parts in the second half. It felt like the first half was all exposition and setting up the framework for the second half - which should be done outside of the awareness of the reader. Other than pacing, characters were well-written and plot itself was good.
DCI Julia Day is investigating a missing person case very similar to one that happened the year before.
But someone wants to make sure Julia doesn't find her. And they know something that could jeopardize Julia's career and her daughter's life.
First of all, the blackmail, which is disclosed early on in the novel, so I don't think I'm giving too much away, is literally self-defense. I don't think Julia, who is supposed to be a straight-as-an-arrow cop, would cover it up. Then there are so many inconsistencies to the plot.
I just couldn't get into the crime or the characters. The plot was just too unbelievable with a predictable ending.
Disappointing.
The ending was very predictable and boring. I could tell who did it since the beginning. It was blah
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest opinion.
Really loved Wrong Time Wrong Place and was a tiny bit disappointed with this one. Wanted to love it, but just liked it. Lots of stuff about the inner workings of police stations, detectives, etc, just not my thing. Still compulsively readable tho!
I adored Gillian McAllisters last book Wrong Place Wrong Time so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read her newest Just Another Missing Person. Once I started reading I could not stop. This book is told by multiple characters and has multiple time lines. Several times I thought I knew what was happening but was totally off base. This is a fast paced mystery/thriller. Check it out, you will not be disappointed.
A young woman disappears into an alley. With no history of such behavior the mystery must be delved into to solve the crime.
As the detective gets closer her family insists that she frame someone else for the murder.
This who-done-it is full of twists and turns and kept my interest all the way through.
