This thriller was amazing! It kept me intrigued the entire time wondering what would happen. This is my first book by Gillian McAllister and I am now a fan! It’s a murder mystery that tests your morals and gets you thinking about what you would do in this situation. Loved it! 5starts!

Another thrilling mystery from Gillian McAllister. I am starting to learn to expect the unexpected with her books. McAllister has such a unique writing style. It shows the lengths that a parent will go for their children and in two very different ways. Love for a child can challenge even the most moral person to suspend their beliefs to protect their child.

A 22 year old woman is missing and the detective tasked with finding her and working the case is soon uncovering dark buried secrets which are putting her in danger of having her most guarded secret revealed. Soon, the detective, Julia, finds herself facing a moral dilemma, all while her life is in grave danger. This is unlike any other detective thrillers that I've read in a while, and I really enjoyed the wild twists and turns the story takes. A truly hard to put down thriller!

Unfortunately this one just didn’t live up to th rhyme I built in my brain after reading Wrong Place Wrong Time. I had tremendous difficulty getting into this story. It drug a bit. It’s not the worst I’ve read by any means, but it’s not memorable. I would say this was an average mystery with a slow burn. Typically I like a slower mystery, but it didn’t work for me this time. It’s a shame because I wanted to count this author as a new favorite. I’m holding out hope for the next book!

This is not my thing only because the second chapter is Lewis talking to, or writing to, the missing person and 2nd person writing reminds me of bad sexting when I was in my 20s. That is a scar I can never recover from.
The author is amazing and I love the way she builds characters and scenes otherwise. It was a good book aside from my own personal issues stemming from being in my 20s i nthe early 2000s. The rest of yall will love this entire book!

This is my second book by Gillian McAllister (Wrong Place Wrong Time was my first) and it didn’t disappoint. I was immediately hooked. There were a good mix of characters; some I liked (flaws and all), some I didn’t like, and some that surprised me (both in good and bad way). The story comes together very nicely and all the pieces begin to fit together. A little willing suspension of disbelief required, but that didn’t change my enjoyment of the book. I highly recommend this book!

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for a chance to read this book early.

Synopsis: Twenty-two year-old Olivia was last seen on CCTV, entering a dead-end alley. She never came back out and was never seen again.

First line: Julia knew from the way Genevieve rushed towards her that something was wrong.

A slow book that picks up 60% in, Just Another Missing Person alternates between four POVs: that of Julia, the police officer trying to find the missing Olivia, Lewis, father of the missing girl, Emma, whose son’s girlfriend is missing, and Olivia, through her social media posts. The characters are layered, secretive, and persistent. It's a gripping tale full of twists, turns, red herrings, secrets, deduction, mayhem, greed, and manipulation.

A story like this is difficult to review without saying too much so I will just say that Just Another Missing Person delivers a complex storyline encompassing a missing person, an identity scam, and a detective stuck in the middle.

Many thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for a mystery with motherhood and the choosing between right and wrong.

I found it tough to get into this book at first, but once I got to the twist, the pace picked up. The writing is good, but I felt at times that there was a lot going on with all the POV switching. I found the resolution to be unbelievable and the main character gets away with too much. Overall, a decent read.

This is another twisty mystery from McAllister that's really about parenthood. How far would you go to protect your child? Julia is a detective and a mom and she is asked to frame a man for murder to save her daughter. Not quite as provocative as Wrong Place Wrong Time but still an engrossing read.

Excellent. McAllister has an incredible knack for bending a twisty narrative that keeps you guessing.

I could not get into this book I tried.. It was extremely slow and boring. I read Wrong Place Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister which was brilliant and I highly recommend for a great psychological thriller., however, her recent novels have all missed the mark for me… especially this one.

Julia is a detective in Portishead which is an actual place in England and not just the name of a band. Her life has been off kilter the last year, her daughter did something in self defense and she helped cover up the crime. Now she’s investigating a missing persons case and has been threatened. If she doesn’t frame a guy for murder her secret will be revealed.
First of all I think it is important to note this is the UK and laws are different there. If you did what her daughter did here I would imagine you would not only not be charged, but probably wind up on the Today Show or something. So that was something I had to get over to enjoy the book. But once I got past that it was exactly the sort of “who’s a good guy? Who’s a bad guy? I can’t tell and maybe they’re all bad” kind of a read.
Second, you know that part in “Gone Girl” where you think things are going one way and then halfway through the narrator switches and you realize you actually have no idea what’s going on? There is a moment like that here. Not so much who, but when.
Loved it, finished it in a day. Plan to read more by the same author. Great mystery/thriller.

3.5 overall!

I read Wrong Place, Wrong Time last year and even though I didn’t love it, I still enjoyed it and was excited to see she had another book coming out, one I was definitely intrigued with. I was definitely hooked from the start with this one and couldn’t put it down until I was finished with it. I loved the multiple POVs and seeing how far a parent would go to protect their child. I did not see some of the twists coming, which I loved, and I loved seeing everything come together at the end.

As much as I loved the storyline, the writing really bugged me. The sentence structure was driving me up a wall and the repetitive words made me want to scream. I love multiple POVs, but not so much when the voice changes. While Julia’s POV was in third person, both Lewis and Emma’s characters’ POV were in a weird second/first person and it took a while to get use to and figure out.

Overall, I did enjoy this book and recommend it to anyone who loves big twists. If the writing was better, I would’ve definitely rated this one higher.

Just Another Missing Person follows a detective, Julia, who is in the middle of investigating Olivia's disappearance when she is forced to compromise her values and morals as a detective in order to protect her daughter. Someone wants to frame Olivia's ex-boyfriend, and they want Julia to be the one to do it.

There are multiple POVs in this mystery novel: a father who is hoping his daughter is still alive, the ex-boyfriend's mother who suspects he may be hiding something, and Julia's POV as she navigates the decision she must make.

This had a lot of promise in the beginning, with the first twist coming early and keeping you on your toes as a reader. Julia is a great morally-grey character and you want to root for her while also questioning a lot of her choices. However, as the real story unfolded, it just became a convoluted mess and it was hard for this reader to suspend her disbelief. Even the final twist at the end felt anti-climatic and hollow.

I really enjoyed “Wrong Place Wrong Time.” So getting into this novel was easy peasy! I enjoyed the multiple points of view, there were 4, which tend to be a lot but not in this case. She kept you engaged throughout each point of view and each person was different enough, you knew who you were at any given time. The author really tested our main character with, how far would you go to protect your family?

Right around 60%, I started to perk up and things became more interesting 😳. At this point in the book, it snowballed. Beautifully written chaos! This was a fast paced thriller that only picked up the more 💩 that unfolded. So so good!

Just Another Missing Person was exactly what I love in a thriller- it was fast paced, kept me guessing, had lots of twists, and and interesting plot! This was very easy to read quickly and while I guessed a few of the twists, there were enough that I felt satisfied. I also appreciated that wasn’t as far fetched as some thrillers get.

Overall- if you like thrillers this is a great one to pick up! After having loved her last one as well I will be picking up her next and checking out her previous books as well.

Thank you netgalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

Wow... it's hard to know where to begin! McAllister's "Wrong Place, Wrong Time" was one of my favorite books of last year, so I have really been looking forward to this one.

And it *absolutely* did not disappoint.

From the flawed but incredibly relatable Julia, to the twists you wouldn't see coming, this novel gripped me from start to finish. A highlight read of the summer, once again, from this author that's now on my auto-buy list.

Thanks to Net Galley and William Morrow for the complimentary review copy of this book.

Julia is a detective tasked with finding a missing girl, Olivia was seen on camera going down an alley but she never came out. Julia’s daughter Genevieve is almost the same age as Olivia, and she’s done something bad that her mother helped her cover up. Now it seems someone else knows their secret. They want Julia to frame someone else for Olivia’s disappearance or they will tell her secret. Will Julia protect her daughter even though an innocent person will be blamed for a crime they didn’t commit? Or will she try to find Olivia? Twists and turns galore! Gillian McAllister doesn’t disappoint! Thank you NetGalley for the electronic copy.

This had a really slow start for me, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to finish it. However, once I got to about 60-65% it really picked up and I flew through til the end. I haven't read anything else by this author but I had heard really good things so my expectations were fairly high and it fell a little flat for me. If you can make it through the beginning, it's worth finishing!
