Accidental Attachment
by Max Monroe
Well, what to say about this book? It was funny until it wasn't. It was too much after half the book. Nobody can be this funny or such an oddball. There were just reasons it seemed to use odd sex terms. All in all, I just became irritated by the craziness of it. I finished FINALLY. Just seemed a waste of too many adolescent theme.

I loved every fricken second of this book. It was hilarious, it was sweet, it had great characters, great chemistry between everyone, and a swoony MMC.
I started this book off laughing. The second she drunk emailed her editor (whom she is crushing on) the wrong book I was in hysterics.
Brooke is a dream. She is hilarious, sweet, just a little self deprecating 🤣 but such a joy. Chase is so passionate and confident in Brooke and her writing talent that you can’t help but be completely enamored by her as well.
I was grinning from ear to ear from beginning to end and I think you will be too!

Accidental Attachment by Max Monroe had a captivating synopsis & really drew me in. But as I kept reading, I just felt more & more disinterested in this story/characters. Plus it was VERY meta (do ppl still use this term?)
Welp. This book IS a rom-com… heavy on the COM. Very heavy. Maybe TOO heavy. I like hilarity in my books (& this book DID make me laugh out loud) but gollll-LY this book relied on witty one liners, self deprecating humor & quick quips to do ALL the legwork. The over use of comedy was exhausting & quite repetitive. There were also some seriously cringey phrases & the pop culture/current trending references felt like they were trying too hard.
The authors warn you in the beginning this is a long book (probably worked against them) & it is! Honestly, I started skimming in chapter 3 bc it had already felt like it was dragging & lost count of the amount of times I had rolled my eyes due to the overuse of cringe humor & pure secondhand embarrassment of some of these descriptions/phrases throughout the story.
I felt like the FMC’s only personality trait in the first half of the book was WINE- which I just did not appreciate. I really enjoyed Benji (the dog) & Sammy & Mo who were the MC’s sisters who acted so REAL. There were some really sweet & relatable parts in here but they are BURIED under slogs of unneeded info dumping/descriptions, inner monologues and over the top “comedy”. It wasn’t until around 75% that the story was genuinely interesting to me & I stopped skimming as much.
The characters were okay. Awkward yet adorable FMC was a bit too on the nose & too quirky at times & only truly funny about 40% of the time, but still just… nice. I have no real qualms w the MMC. He was cute. Satisfactory. For having the manuscript abt him being ultra hot, I feel like we could have used more steam from him, but he did have a dirty mouth so I did enjoy that, haha! 1 complaint would be that he commented on Brooke being funny WAY too often, like boy we get it- you think she’s a comedy queen!
In a broader critique, Chase was an editor & what was a catalyst for the plot hinged on HIM coming along w Brooke on a nationwide RV tour to EDIT the book. But… where were the edits??? Why was that not included at all? I feel like that could have been a really funny & super relevant portion to the story! (Still kinda confused on the cover of the book. I like it but it has no real relevance to the story? Is it just there bc it’s pretty?)
The plot is goodish, but overall the trajectory of the story needed polishing. Pacing for sure needs some improvement, as mentioned previously, this book is LONG. Writing style not my cup of tea & formatting of the text was strange to me. That being said I would still recommend this book bc it IS a story that I think people would enjoy reading. Unfortunately, this story could have benefitted from what Chase was trying to do with Brooke- editing. However, even though I am a bit disappointed, this is an okay book with somewhat relatable characters & I believe that there are people out there who really could enjoy their story.
(I read the extended epilogue & I have to say I think I like that better than the whole entirety of Accidental Attachment! That itself deserves at least 4 stars for its seriously cute look into Brooke & Chase’s life, it’s brevity & setting up the next story so well! Will I read that one? We’ll see 🤷🏻♀️)
Thank you for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book starts with an important Author's Note that includes the following warning: Also, due to the hilarious and addictive nature of this book's content, the following things are not recommended: reading in public places.... I can attest to the fact that this book is very funny and I did get people looking at me funny as I laughed out loud. So, you have been warned. Now here is my review....
Brooke is a successful author with her first book series being turned into a Netflix show and a public that is waiting impatiently for her next book to be published. The only problem is that the book she has written isn't fit for print. Oh, and she's got a mad crush on her new editor! What does any self-respecting author do in these circumstances? Yup, write a dirty novel with all of her fantasies about her new editor. And then what does she do? You guessed it! She accidentally sends it to her editor! Chase is working hard to establish himself at his new job. He loves Brooke's writing and is both thrilled when he gets her new book and a bit confused. He realizes that the book is amazing, and he goes on a journey to get it published. Brooke lives in fear that he'll learn about her secret crush. Together they go on a cross country journey and end up finding love.
The authors went with a common trope of close proximity, but they did it in a very unique way. I love that Brooke and Chase end up in an RV travelling across the country while Brooke promotes her Netflix show. Yes, the way Chase ended up as the driver of the RV was a bit outlandish, but it was also really cute. I did worry at one point that Chase didn't seem to be getting any sleep and all Brooke was doing was sleeping but the authors eventually handled that as well. The authors also gave Brooke a unique medical condition, vasovagal syncope. It opened up a lot of funny situations when paired with Brooke's crazy sense of humor and clumsiness. I really appreciate that the authors made Chase "perfect" in Brooke's eyes but he doesn't see himself that way. It was a storyline in the book that did get worked out in the end. A lot of authors would have avoided that but they did a good job making Mr. Perfect actually human. This book is full of genuine heart and giggle inducing moments. There is a good cast of side characters including Brooke's dog, Benji.
This is a contemporary romance that takes place in New York City and various other locations. This is a funny, heartwarming love story between two adults both trying to succeed in their jobs. I don't normally do this but if you read this book you have to read the extended epilogue. It is silly and it ties this book directly into the next book (the authors have promised the next book) but it also gives a nice look into Brooke and Chase after Accidental Attachment is finished. I will definitely read more from these author in the future.
Putting the wrong attachment on an email. Easily done, especially when there's alcohol involved. For writer Brooke, however, that mistake kicks off a chain of events which leads to several weeks' travel in a motorhome with the man she has a hopeless crush on. Who she wrote a very sexy book about. And who happens to be her editor...
I really enjoyed this. Heavy on the humour, light on the angst, and two well-rounded people who believe their feelings for the other aren't reciprocated or shouldn't be acted on. Chase is the epitome of the cinnamon roll, a genuinely nice guy, and Brooke's medical condition is an unusual addition, but gives us the joy of Benji: her one-sided conversations with him were one of the highlights of the book. I also liked the way that Chase and Brooke were aware of their own flaws but cheerfully saw past each others', and the connection between them was quite delightful throughout.
Incredible!!!
Brooke is an award winning author whose book has become a Netflix series.
Chase is her editor and the man of her fantasies. It’s a book within a book that was written about them in her fantasy.
Such loveable characters that had me turning the pages with anticipation and hearts in my eyes.
I’ve never read anything quite as amazing as this book, it made me sad, filled with laughter and joy all at the same time. I can relate to the anxiety and overthinking that happens between characters. Truly a must read.
It was an honor and pleasure to read and review, thank you Netgalley!

This is my first book by this duo and it definitely won’t be my last! I laughed so much while reading/listening to this book! It is one of the funniest I’ve read in a long time. The storyline was interesting and kept me engrossed in the book. There is only one word that sums up Brooke and that is chaotic! That girl was all over the place and her inner dialogue had me laughing out loud several times. Chase was so sweet and I loved his relationship with his sister…she was an amazing side character! What I loved most was the banter and sexual tension between Chase and Brooke. And we can’t forget the superhero of the story, Brooke’s service dog Benji! I really enjoyed this one and I feel like the audio really brought the story to life for me.
This book was really long but it was really good. I mean it's super cheesy but I had such a good time. I loved seeing all the ways that Chase was better than she wrote him. Brooke is so funny and seeing Chase think that she's the funniest person ever was so cute. I just enjoyed everything about this book and I am looking forward to the next one.
I received an arc through netgalley.
Brooke sends her hot editor her fan fiction about him by mistake. Except that he doesn't know that the book is actually about him!
A fun, hilarious rom-com. Love the sassy dialogue and the humour. Love the dogs of course. Totally quirky characters. Really love it.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
"Accidental Attachment" includes the following tropes: writer & editor-to-lovers, road trip, forced proximity, slow burn, cinnamon roll MMC, & quick-witted & hilarious FMC.
The MCs are Chase & Brooke. The side characters include Chase’s sister Mo & her husband Vinny, his assistant Dawn, & his boss Jonah. Other side characters include Brooke’s service dog Benji, father Hank, mother Sue, sister Sam, her two nephews Seth & Grant, agent Wilson, & friend Noah alongside Dolly [aka Benji’s girlfriend].
Chase is a cinnamon roll MMC that is witty, funny, charming, considerate, supportive, easy going, sincere, & understanding. He currently works as an editor, & is working with Brooke on a novel that she is finishing up. Aside from work colleagues, he doesn't have much of a social life except when he hangs out with his sister & her husband. However, when Brooke finally sends him the manuscript of her new novel, his life gets a lot more adventurous. Oddly, the manuscript she sent to him is completely different than the novel she signed a contract for. However, this novel is the best novel he has ever read & he is so convinced of this that he risks his career on convincing his boss to publish it & hope it sells well.
Brooke is a writer who is finishing up her novel, however, she hates it. Secretly, she has actually been writing a book on the side that is not for public consumption & will never see the light of day... or so she believes. She also has a Netflix series coming out that is based off of a couple her previous novels. As far as personality, she is absolutely hilarious, quick-witted, self-deprecating, kind-hearted, creative, quirky, & full of anxiety. She thinks that she is social awkward, but in reality, she's not - she makes everyone smile & laugh, & has a magnetic personality that puts people at ease. Because of a medical condition that she has, she has a service dog named Benji who is her best friend & her lifeline. Their relationship is so cute, & she dresses him in superhero costumes.
Brooke is working with Chase on her next novel to be published, however, she thinks it's trash but doesn't know what else to do at this point. When she goes to send Chase the manuscript, she realizes later on that she sent the wrong file & freaks out... rightfully so. There is nothing she can do about it because of the deadline she is on. Not only does she have this to worry about, but she is also scheduled to go on a three week motor home tour for her new Netflix show based on a couple of previous novels. When Chase finds out she still needs a driver, he volunteers himself. Brooke is reeling, wondering how she will survive living in close quarters with Chase for three weeks... but all ends up going well & they end up as besties along the way... & maybe a little more.
Although there is not much spice in this book, the tension is insane - the banter, flirting, teasing, & little "innocent" touches. I was on the edge of my seat so many times while reading this book haha. And while I typically love a ton of spice, I was absolutely loving all of their interactions that brought them closer together over time. Intimacy isn't just physical, & this book definitely proves this.
I highly recommend this book to others, especially if you like a ton of banter & hilarious moments between characters! I genuinely enjoyed getting sucked into this book, & Max Monroe made it so easy to do!!!
Max Monroe always delivers a fun read! I will say this one was a little long and a few too many jokes and attempts to be funny that could have been cut down. Brooke Baker is an author who sends her editor, Chase Dawson, the wrong manuscript. The manuscript she sent is one she wrote about the two of them - she has a crush on him. Chase loves the manuscript so much even though he has no idea it is about him. Brooke is set to go on tour for the Netflix movie of her first book but this new book needs to be edited and revised asap. Because of this Chase decides to go with her on tour to make sure it happens. Of course the more time they spend together the more they like each other.
Chase Dawson is perfection! I can see why Brooke wrote fan fiction about him and why she passes out from just being near him. I loved this story so much, and I loved their chemistry! I have never been too fond of forced proximity, but here it works SO well!
Accidental Attachment was my first Max Monroe book and I can promise it won't be my last.

We follow Brooke, a pretty successful author, with a best selling series. While trying to write her next novel she finds herself in a pretty big writing slump. She starts fantasizing about her new editor and spins a whole story about them as the main characters in this book… on a drunken night when she is supposed to send over her newest manuscript - She sends over this to her editor instead. Turns out it's a hit and they want to use this instead…Can Brooke make it through this while having to finish the book based around her editor…while they are stuck on a road trip together…:)
While I don't typically gravitate toward slow burn romances, this one was one that I actually really enjoyed! Brooke's inner monologue literally had me howling a lot of the time. She is such a weird, fun loving, goof ball. I loved her so much she was a great main character. Chase really is the dream book boyfriend. He was so sweet and understanding. The angst and sexual tension between the two of the characters was written really well. Though this was a bit too long and maybe a bit drawn out, it is still worth the read.
Benji - we can't forget about the super hero service dog. He for sure needs a huge shoutout and I loved his character just as much!! Thank you to all the amazing service dogs out there that protect us day in and day out.
Thanks Netgally for the copy of this arc for an honest review.
I'm sorry but this book has some of the cringiest phrases I've ever read in my life. Things like "diddle your doodle" (what the heck?), "motherflipping", and my favorite: "Involuntarily, my breasts swell in my tank top, and my breathing escalates." That is like the least sexy way to say you're turned on that I've ever heard. Also, I am getting major secondhand embarrassment from the awkward interactions between the protagonists. If you like corny, silly stuff like this, it might be your thing. Unfortunately I cannot get past those ridiculous phrases, so its a DNF for me. Its disappointing because this book had so much potential. 31 year old with weird fainting episodes? Story of my life. Can't handle the cringe though. No grown woman says "diddle your doodle".
While I enjoyed this book and found Brooke to be witty and relatable, it was just too long. The author has talent but its hard to stay engaged.
There were parts that jumped ahead and I think that may have been an editing decision to cut parts of a really long book. I think it might have been best separated out in to two books.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
3.75⭐
Overall, I enjoyed the premise and Brooke and Chase's journey to a HEA. This books is LONG. Unnecessarily, imo. Some parts were repetitive, some parts were immature- but didn't really distract too much from the story. The conflict was predictable, and it does involve third-act breakup but didn't really last long.
Read this if you like/love:
- A loyal sidekick (Benji- Brooke's service dog for her vasovagal episodes)
- Forced proximity
- Author/editor
- Mild open door spice🔥
Please check TW prior to reading.

Accidental Attachment by Max Monroe tells the story of Brooke and Chase's relationship and how they came to be. Brooke, a successful writer with a series being transported to the big screen by Netflix, meant to turn in a spin off series when she accidentally sends the manuscript for another story instead. A story that she never meant to show the public, let alone her editor that she wrote the story about. The plot was definitely intriguing for me when I decided to pick this story up, but I personally did not feel this story lived up to the hype that I had hoped for. I liked how easy this story was to read. Max Monroe did an excellent job incorporating humor throughout the book, but I do want to point out a few things that may draw away some readers. If the reader does not mind these little nitpicks, then I do feel that they will enjoy the story. A couple smaller nitpicks I had was the mentions of TikTok and Gen-Z. The mentions to TikTok felt unnecessary and I get turned off by the references since I read books to escape into a new world, reading about TikTok sound references and popular culture defeat my purpose for reading books. Brooke is super clumsy, and while it is relatable to be a clumsy person, it felt like almost every chapter she was stubbing a toe or tripping on something. I also felt like the story had very little conflict, and the conflict that did occur was brushed over lightly or felt forced. I would have enjoyed more inclusion of their editing process since a large part of the story's plot was how the story that she turned in needed to be edited and finalized within the three weeks they were on tour. The story only sprinkled mentions of the editing and lacked any discussion of the process. I also think the writer could have had some cute scenes between Chase and Brooke had they wrote about them working together to edit the story. Although I do think if this story finds the right audience it can be enjoyed. This book is great for anyone who is looking for a lighthearted slow burn, with little conflict, and fluffy romance with lots of humorous banter. Thank you to Max Monroe and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a cute book!! I loved it!! The motor home made me excited for camping and summer. Great vacation book! I loved all the side characters especially the dog, Benji. I really hope this book will be a series and that Sammy will get her HEA as well. Can’t wait for more!
Imagine you wrote a book about your imagined relationship with your crush, who also happens to be your book editor, and you submit it by accident? Enter Brooke Baker a la River. Brooke is hysterical- she is sweet and an amazingly funny inner monologue. I was rooting for her the whole time, and laughing along with her and her crazy antics. Chase is adorable and I loved the slow burn as they got to know each other.
