Accidental Attachment is such a fun book! Brooke is a relatable character with her quirky personality and penchant for passing out, especially in the presence of her crush on her smokin hot editor, Chase. When she gets wine drunk and accidentally sends him the wrong book, one coincidentally about their imagined, steamy romance, it sets off a whole chain of events that changes their lives. The push and pull between the characters, Chase's sweet overprotectiveness, and Brooke's hilarious one-liners along with her canine companion make this book well worth the read.

I’ve read several other book by Max Monroe and I thought this one would be promising, especially based on the blurb. It fell short for me. I had to struggle to finish this book.
Brooke is a writer who accidentally submits the wrong book to her editor Chase that was based on her fantasy of them. After the accidental submission it becomes a whirlwind from there. It felt like something was lacking between them. It felt like it was heavily focused on Brooke’s quirkiness and after a while it became annoying. For Chase he just literally seemed too perfect and I get that was in Brooke’s point of view, but it was too much.
It is for sure a slow burn, but once the spice hit, it fell short. Chase and Brooke getting together was so built-up that once it finally happened I wasn't that excited for it.

Giving up at 55%. I'm sorry, but not much happened in more than half of the book besides the FMC freaking the shit out and the MMC telling us she's funny as hell.
The synopsis/blurb pulled me in. A publishing industry romance? Ooh, gimme the deets. As someone who used to write fanfiction, I was all in for a "whoops I sent you my spicy fanfic!" premise.
But once you start reading, the storytelling leaves much to be desired. The FMC's disability (vasovagal syncopes) is fine and dandy, and I'm here for her self-deprecation yet acceptance of her fainting spells. They became a crutch to the story pretty fricking early on, though. Every single time she would see the MMC, she would freak out and nearly faint (or, one occasion, actually faint). It felt like the authors were pushing it after the second tipping over.
The humor is forced and flat, though. The MMC keeps telling the reader that the FMC is funny, but I didn't find myself cracking a smile at any of her jokes because after a while, it just becomes humor dissonance. At one point, she acknowledges that "I am infantile in maturity!" and yup, nailed it right on the head. Her crackwhip jokes read like something a high schooler might say.
I honestly fail to see how a smutty fanfic could be considered a literary masterpiece (or however the MMC called it; not to mention that I doubt any man let alone an editor would think smut is life-changing or mind-bending -- or however he described it). I suppose 50 Shades of Grey did make waves in reader circles, but I don't think anyone would describe it as a masterpiece either. Anyway, I digress. One passage pretty much sounded like a CEO of a tv news channel and his star anchor getting diddly live on air so holy shit. I'm sorry but have we learned nothing from the #metoo movement, company policy violations and the whole debate about whether manager-employee relationships can even be considered consensual? Have we learned nothing from all the lawsuits following such relationships? I'm not really into employer-employee romance, as you can tell. Especially not CEO-employee.
Another issue this book suffers from is too much filler. I have never read a Max Monroe book before, but apparently, some of their old characters had a cameo during a walk that honestly didn't need to be included. (BTW, this book is long AF and a lot of scenes could have used trimming or complete chopping). The whole 55% I read felt like filler -- nothing much happened besides the FMC submitting the smutty fanfic instead of the novel she was supposed to submit, the MMC agreeing to drive a motor home to get her places for her Netflix tour, and I guess him hearing her come twice in the shower. Everything. Else. Is. Filler.
The romance is strange, too. The FMC says over and over that she's got a crush on the MMC, and the MMC's internal dialogue keeps bouncing back to "she's so funny", but I don't really feel much chemistry between them. No tension, besides maybe MMC getting a boner when he hears her orgasm in the shower. Which you'd think is when her equilibrium would also take a massive nosedive due to, you know, blood pressure getting all hyped up and weird, but nah.
This was my first book by Max Monroe and I liked it. The beginning was pretty slow, but once it picked up I enjoyed Brooke and Chase. If you’re a fan of workplace romances, add this one to your list.
I read two different books since starting this one. Mostly to give myself a break and then dive back in. I made it to 20% before adding this to my DNF pile.
I felt as if the begging was lacking something. Usually there’s something grab you in. Kind of starts going in circles if anything. Book has potential. Just wasn’t for me.
This book sounded like it was going to be a great read. Unfortunately for me it was slow to start and I didn’t find it funny, I think almost trying too hard. Perhaps the wrong choice for me, nothing really wrong it was just a struggle to read it.

Accidental Attachment is a book in a book kind of… book? Our main character Brooke writes a romance about her and her new crush’s love story. The problem? Her crush is her new editor and she accidentally sends him said book for editing. She couldn’t expect he would love it not knowing he is the male character’s real representative. Then? They are forced together to edit the book about their imaginary love story!
The plot is so controversial and confusing that is perfect for me. I liked this book in all its awkward parts, faints and dogs personifications.
Why I gave it 4⭐️ instead of the maximum? Because the first half of the book is really slow and didn’t make want to read the rest. So glad I did because in the end it was worth it. I think it made too long to make you comprehend the characters better but it felt a bit unnecessary.
This said I really liked this and I recommend it.
I am a sucker for a well written slow burn… and Max Monroe did it again. Brook and Chase are the perfect workplace/forced proximity trope characters. As someone who suffers from Vasovagal Syncope I thought that Brooke’s condition was well written and I loved her service dog Benji and the relationship she had with him!
The tour and the growth of Brooke and Chase’s relationship was well done and I honestly just want to be besties with Brooke and Benji!
Fingers crossed there is a sequel with Sammy because she’s the perfect big sister and I just want her to have her best life!
I have been a fan of Max Monroe for years and always find myself laughing through their books and this book delivered not only spice but laughs. This book was a delight and I’d like to thank NetGalley and Max Monroe LLC for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. Accidental Attachment releases on Kindle Unlimited, in paperback, and audiobook on April 30,2023.
I guess this is the first book I've read by Max Monroe and the blurb caught my attention. I liked both Chase & Brooke initially but they were too perfect, it's as if they did not have any flaws which made this book boring for me tbh. And in the entirety of it, absolutely nothing happened. I mean it was drama free but there should be something solid in the plot to keep me interested. The conflict was sudden and unnecessary and unfortunately the book did not live up to my expectations. Maybe if there was a solid plot, I would've liked it better. The writing was easy to read and the first half was tolerable but I just could not keep myself engaged.

Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I really wanted to like this book. It had a lot of what I love in a romcom: cute dog, hot office crush, chronic illness rep. But this just didn’t click for me. Right from the start it felt like it was trying way too hard to make you laugh. I don’t think I laughed once reading this book and it’s not for lack of trying (if anything it went straight past witty into annoying). The conversations with Benji also felt weird rather than cute. I think the only thing that stuck in my mind as something I liked was this one sentence…”I wish I could spare her the years wasted on that puckered entrance, Todd.” I think that’s my new derogatory term for jerks.
I have a feeling it just wasn’t the right book for my preferences. There was nothing bad per se but I had to force myself to pick it up and finish it. 2.5⭐️
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this ARC. As soon as I read the blurb, I got very excited and couldn't wait to read it. I really wanted to love this book and though I do not hate it, it was a bit hard for me to get into it. I thought the pace what a bit slow for my taste and even a little bit boring and I hate to say this because I love this author's work. The story is about Brooke Baker, who in a short period of time has had a divorce, a career change and a move to New York. Brooke has a huge crush on her editor Chase. By accident, Brooke sends Chase a manuscript that talks about Her and Chase's relationship that lives inside of Brooke's head.
This is a slow burn done wrong in my opinion. There were several instances where I just wanted to DNF the book but I powered through it.
The narrators did an amazing job but the book is not one of the best ones from this author. I do recommend 100% to check her other books. .
I liked this book......while I have read other books by Max Monroe that I enjoyed more, I still liked this.
Brooke is an author who sends the wrong manuscript to her boss, who she wrote the story about. This book was cute and I loved the characters.
I will definitely keep my eye out for more Max Monroe books.

Review:
I remember when I read the blurb of this book where the FMC was a writer who had a big crush in her editor, wrote a book about them and sent it to him by mistake I thought. I have to read it!
In the beginning of the book I LOVED both characters, I even thought that the if anyone didn’t like them is because they had lost their soul. Well, who would think I my soul would be lost while reading this book? I can’t say that I started disliking the book, because I haven’t. But all the sweetness and funny things started to fall flat at one point and I don’t even know when. The book felt slow paced and nothing really happened.
Chase was almost Brooke caretaker, and not because she had a health condition, but because she seemed barely able to alive half of the time. Always tripping, falling, saying things she wasn’t supposed to say. She also didn’t want to edit the book, let Chase drive, take care of all the logistics while she did barely a thing.
I’m so sad for not rating it higher, but I have to be honest with myself and, maybe, if the book was shorter it would be better.
*** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. ***
I wanted to like this so much! I love most of Max Monroe's books, but this one didn't do it for me. The humor seemed forced, and the story moved SO SLOWLY. Hopefully the next book of MM will bring me back to their earlier works.
dnf at 30%
this book is just so disappointing imo, when i first saw the blurb i was like “omg sign me up!!! an author and her editor!?!?! hell yes!!” but the execution of this book is just… i was really excited for this and i heard all the good things about this author duo when i applied for an arc. but sadly this book did not live up to me expectation, the comedy felt really forced in this book, most jokes in this book were not funny to me, and adding ha ha in the sentences didn’t make it funny either. i love romcom, but the com in this book is so hard to get into, and the romance part is just okay…
i love illness rep fmc but other than this, fmc herself is insufferable, i tried, i tired so hard to love her but i just can’t, and mmc in this book, yes i get that he was “hot” but calling fmc in every chapter wouldn’t make her funny. since i dnf at 30%, there was one scene i enjoyed, the restaurant scene, it was probably the only good part i love, it was natural and actually funny in some parts. other than that, fmc’s pov was a little insufferable to me, and mmc’s pov in comparison was okay in my opinion, but started to turn downhill after a while.
i really tried to love this book, i spent 2 weeks trying to get through this book, but 30% was all i can do, the blurb sounded amazing but the execution was not good. that being said, i’ll still try to read other books by this author since maybe it’s just this book, honestly the accidental attachment in this book sounded more interesting than this book lmao.
i usually don’t rate books i didn’t finish since i don’t think it’s fair, but for the parts i’ve read, 2.5 stars, it really does have potential but it was so painful to read.
thank you netgelley for giving me this arc in exchange for a honest opinion.

I am so behind on my netgalley reviews, this book has already published! lol oh well 🤷♀️I absolutely loved this book!! it is soooo funny, sweet, heartwarming, & spicy ❤️
the plot was a unique take on blocked writer looking for her story with Brooke accidentally turning in a fanfic she wrote about her crush on Chase, her editor, as the manuscript that’s due.
both these characters are so lovely, kind, hysterical people. Brooke’s crush on Chase is soooo understandable— he is charming, kind, funny, sweet, cinnamon roll galore. & Brooke is adorkable, being awkward & funny, sweet & relatable all at once. & Benji, the sweetest service pup, deserves all the love & adoration 🥹❤️
Chase & Brooke have the slowest burn relationship, getting really close on a road trip for Brooke’s Netflix deal tour & I love how they navigate each other, then their relationship (finally!!) they are the sweetest, cutest, best book couple ever❤️🔥
I have a new fav book in Accidental Attachment! I cannot recommend enough for ppl who love laughing & doggos & awkward relatablness & the best characters ever 🤍🤍🤍
thank you for the ARC!!! review posted on instagram 05/17/2023
If you are looking for fluffy, easy to read, light hearted and doesn’t require your brain to flip to overdrive…this may be perfect for you.
I enjoyed this, but I do think the first half was very slow, took a long time to build and when it got anywhere, I felt like I was so impatient for it that I didn’t enjoy it the way I should have? It was good, not great, but a cute read overall and great for a summer beach day.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this ARC to review. I rarely give poor reviews or can’t finish a book, but this is one of them. At 15% in I could not read anymore. Unfortunately, the characters were one dimensional, with the dog being the most fleshed out. The story was slow and lagging and the main character was annoying with every other sentence having some reference to her sexual thoughts, like a horny teenager and not a 31 year old. There was no romance to speak of. I really wanted to like this book-I just could not get into it.
I wanted to love this one because I liked the idea of a writer accidently sending a story she wrote about her editor to him. It sounded promising at first.
As the chapters went on and nothing really happened, it started to lose my attention and it became a chore to keep reading it. And reading it should never be that, so for that reason it wasn't for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Max Monroe LLC for sending me this arc in exchange for an honest review!
If you’re looking for an awkwardly endearing, fluffy rom-com between an author and her editor, this is the book for you. I do have to admit that this book had a really slow start. Before the halfway point, the book was mainly fluff that didn’t really seem to move the story along. You see each of the main characters doing mundane things in their daily lives but not really interacting with each other. I wish the beginning of the book was a bit shorter because once we got to Chase and Brooke editing the book together, the book really picked up. It was a cute book, I just wish it was deities a bit different because the first half was too long and focused on unimportant things, while the second half had a lot of really cute scenes cut short. I really wanted a bit more of Chase and Brooke’s adventures together.
I thought Chase and Brooke were really cute together and I was definitely rooting for them the whole time! They had good chemistry toward the end of the book that I wished was sprinkled through the rest of the book as well. It also took me a while to love Brooke because she was so awkward that I had second hand embarrassment but eventually it became really endearing and I loved her as a character. Overall, if you’re looking for a fluffy book that’s an easy read, this could be the book for you.
