"It takes a strong woman to run a family – and an empire". Enter the world of Janey Hallahan, a powerful criminal who does just that!
I have no doubt when diving into a book by Alex Kane that it will be a great read and of course this one didn't prove me wrong! It has been a while since I picked up a book and this one had me hooked; Perfectly paced with so much action and so many twists and turns!
Thank you to NetGalley and Hera Books for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review 📖
This was an interesting read it took me a while to get into it which is unusual for an Alex Kane book but it was good once I did and I then really enjoyed it.
I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.
From the first page, i knew this book was for me. Every chapter was exciting right to the end, well written, with great characters. The characters were introduced slowly so you got a chance to get to know them.
Janey Hallahan is a very strong woman and she runs her criminal gang with a rod of iron. If her workers are loyal to her they are looked after. If they tread on her toes they are in serious trouble, as is the case of Danny McInroy.
Working off of his late father's respected name he hates women and working for one is below him, so he tries to take off Janey's gang...........
Every page had something exciting to read about, violence, murder, twisted coppers and hate are the name of this book.
I love Alex Kane's writing and have read and enjoyed everyone.
This one especially.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this excellent book. xxx
This was my first time reading books by this author Alex Kane. Absolutely loved this, it had everything I love in a book. It was fast paced, gritty, great story line and I loved the characters. Looking forward to reading more from her.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion
Jane is not a lady to be crossed and when someone does, make sure you don't get caught.
Another fantastic read by Alex Kane
Absolutely loved this, I had everything I love in a book. It was fast paced, gritty, great story line and I loved the characters. I have read a lot of Alex Kane's books and I have never been disappointed
Janey by Alex Kane was an excellent book that will have you gripped from the very beginning till the end, especially as it was full of good twists and turns throughout. It was so good I ended up being glued to my kindle until I finished it. It's a Great holiday read and I highly recommend this book. I loved it and all the characters
Big thank you to NetGalley, Hera Books and the author Wendy Clarke in exchange for an honest review.
Janet is definitely a woman not to mess with, I loved this book, can’t beat a good gangster story, especially with such a strong woman at the helm.
If you love casey Kellher or Martina Cole, kerry jays then this book is for you
Janey is not to be messed with. She runs a tight ship with her minions I mean employees knowing where the boundaries are and the penalties for jumping those boundaries.
Except Danny. He thinks he knows better because he’s a man. But he’s not a particularly nice man. He uses people for his own means, even his best bud. But he’s worse with women, he’s just not a nice person. He’s someone to steer well clear off… but unfortunately some don’t take head of warnings because they’re smitten with his smooth happy persona… oh how a switch can flick! *shudder*
Yet again Kane has created a pacey gangland thriller that isn’t purely about the gangs. She weaves in the lives of the innocents who have been drawn in to this dark and violent world by accident, or desperation and struggle to escape.
I never thought I’d enjoy the gangland side of crime fiction but Alex Kane’s books are enthralling and I really enjoy the balance she gets between the criminal aspects of the story and the more personal side of her characters. These people before me on my kindle are real and I see them playing out the story in my mind’s eye as I read! Just brilliant 👏🏻👏🏻 👏🏻
It takes a strong woman to run a family - and an empire. Janey Hallahan was born into the criminal life. After the death of her father, she became head of the family business - every day making dark decisions that make her family firm richer, no matter how dangerous. While Janey rules gangland with an iron fist, she always sticks to her own code of honor, and the innocent never get hurt,
Set in Glasgow. I was hooked from the prologue. Janey inherited the family business, and she wants to prove that she's a force to be reckoned with. It's filled with strong believable characters. There's a new kid on Janey's payroll. Janey doesn't trust him and knows that it won't end well. There's lots of twists and turns in this fast paced, gripping and well written book. I hope Jane will feature in more books. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #HeraBooks and the author #AlexKane for my ARC of #Janey in exchange for an honest review.
I’d like to thank Hera Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Janey’ by Alex Kane in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Janey Hallahan is head of the powerful Glasgow gangland family business helped by her husband Ciaran. When Geo McInroy dies his stepson Danny takes over the running of Club Envy but his boss is Janey. Danny hates Janey, he hates all women who he believes aren’t worthy of his respect, but Janey has his measure and will stop at nothing to protect her empire even if it means removing Danny.
‘Janey’ runs her business with a fist of iron, but she’s also loyal to those who work for her and will destroy anyone who crosses her and who she considers deserving of her kind of justice. Although she thinks nothing of causing bloodshed I like Janey as she’s tough yet fair and has the respect of her gang. The story is gritty with lots of drama, intrigue and suspense and an exciting conclusion that was fitting. I’ve enjoyed reading this thriller and would like to read more of Janey in the future.
Alex Kane is back and reminding us all why she is just brilliant.
Janey is strong, fierce and doesn’t need a man to fulfil her. In fact, there are men in this book Janey would have for breakfast and spit out when done.
I knew I was going to love this book. I mean I love all of Alex’s books. However, I think this is my favourite yet. This book has given me Martina Cole feels and I’ve loved it.
Janey doesn’t like Danny, therefore he should be worried. As a reader, we get glimpses of why this is the case. We get to know Danny rather well as we read. Personally, I’ve thought he’s a bit of a self obsessed sleazebag.
Kane has created a masterpiece which has taken me to the dark side and I’m not even going to pretend I don’t love it. Janey is FABULOUS!! Definitely deserving of her own series. I have devoured this book in just one sitting and have no regrets. This is the best yet by this author.
A Scottish gangland thriller with a strong female protagonist.
Janey is a fab main character and I would love to see her again in another Kane book.
A good amount of characters with different stories which meant there was a variety of endings that puke have happened.
If you like Martina Cole, Jacqui Rose, Jessie Keane amongst others then this will be right up your Street.
Gutsy Gangland Thriller..
A strong and feisty woman, a criminal empire, an iron fist - a man’s world? Janey Hallahan, born into a life of crime is now head of that criminal underworld - she rules with a fist of iron but she always abides by her code of honour - but now Janey is out for revenge and there is absolutely no stopping her. A fast paced, gutsy gangland thriller with a plot populated with keenly observed and credible characters and an action fuelled and edgy narrative.

📖 Book - Janey
✍️ Author - Alex Kane
📕 Publisher - Hera

We all have them don’t we … the certain authors that we love … that get to skip the queue’s for our book reviews, we don’t even need to read the book blurb before we hit the pre-order/buy or netgalley request button!! But like every mum of their children … of course I don’t have ONE favourite 🤩 😉 😜 😉…….. I have a FEW!!! 😂.
📕 📖 gangland/crime 📖📕.
We meet Janey Hallahan. She is head of the crime family, having taken over when her father passed away. She had to work twice as hard, to earn the respect from the men who work for her, but this she has now managed. Danny’s father worked for Janey and he was well respected by her. Now that Danny has taken over, she just knows this is not going to end well!! Danny thinks he is untouchable but he shouldn’t underestimate Janey … absolutely not!!

So Janey is the head of the Hallahan Empire and isn't too fond of Danny. Danny's dad Geo, a loyal employee of Janey's is dying and Danny is due to take over Geo's businesses. Does Danny toe the line??? Does Janey have to slap him into submission??? Or does she end his career before it even begins???
I wasn't too sure of this at first. A lot of characters with a lot of details at a slow pace. When I got around halfway through, the pace picked up, story was intriguing. It could have ended in several different directions. I was eager to see how this one would finish. Will definitely look out for more of Alex's work
Gangland thriller Glasgow.
Janey Hallahan is the boss of the clubs and hearing Geo McInroy is on his death bed with cancer, Glasgows most feared gangster, his step son Danny is taking over Club Envy and Carbeth he is not to be trusted. Glasgow will go under, and she needs proof to get rid of him once and for all she knows he is involved in murders and drug rings, she's watching him.
Cor Blimey this is one fast pace read, digging up lots of twisted secrets that are so clever and you never see coming. I do hope this is the start of a new series from this author and we learn more from Janey and husband Ciaran, it's definitely a must read book and would make a fantastic series all round for readers.
Excellent 5 stars. gripping and twisted read.
Janey is the Irish head of a drug dealing gang involved in all the major British cities. This story is based in Glasgow. Geo, her trusted lieutenant dies, and passes on his role in the business to his stepson Danny. Danny is a misogynistic violent thug, and Janey doesn't trust him. The book tells how Janey tests his loyalty and tries to protect his girlfriends from his violence. A mixed cast of characters make for an interesting story. Recommended.
Absolutely loved this book I didn't want it to end.I was gripped from start to finish as I do love strong women able to live without following a man. This book is of one of my favourite genre's and readers will love it as I did,the story and characters are so believable and will draw you in and grip you till the end.EXCELLENT BOOK 5*
Another very good read set in Glasgow and revolving around gangsters. I liked the characterisation and the plotting. Some characters I absolutely hated, especially Danny! The plotting was interesting, there was plenty drama and suspense with a neatly wrapped up ending. An author I would recommend for lovers of thrillers. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
