This was a good read and all my besties who like a fast paced swoon worthy book! Nick and Jess have my whole heart! It does raise some health issues so be aware of this
I did not enjoy this book and it took me almost a year to try and finish it but i just couldnt. Sorry.
This one is a quick and ready read however it also didn’t really stand out to me.
I didn’t particularly like the characters and enemies to lovers in normal romances needs to be executed perfectly because how much of an 'enemy' can you really be in a normal world?
Anyways, to me it was a typical 3 star romance book

Just Like That is the first book I’ve read by Nina Kaye. I was initially drawn by the title and colorful cover.
Unfortunately, even though I wanted to really like this story, it dragged on and was a struggle to read. It could have benefitted from some editing and rewrites as there was entirely too info dumping at the beginning. Instead of showing the reader, Ms. Kaye relies too much on telling.
I wanted to like Jess, as I’m sure she was under a lot of stress with her job and her annoying boss. Then her older brother, Seth, has a stroke and she ends up having to do everything as their absentee parents decide to throw money at the situation instead of coming back from Spain.
Jess is prickly and judgmental. Her reactions come across as immature and impulsive. The lack of communication irritates me as she always assumes the worst of Nick when if they talked, she would actually know what he wants and is thinking.
When the two finally get together in the last third of the book, how is she supposed to be a committed relationship without honesty especially when being her brother, Seth’s carer is and should be a dealbreaker if Nick isn’t interested. Just not wanting to deal with it does a disservice to Nick who is still reeling from having his heart broken by his ex-wife cheating on him and subsequent divorce.
I feel like this should have been titled a series of unfortunate decisions from hurting Alison’s feelings with her judgment leading for her to break up with Nick, to getting plastered and thinking she’d cheated on Nick who told her that his ex wife had been a serial cheater.
Then Jess dumps him and lies about the reasons. Sigh. Girl, what are you doing?
I really want to like her but it’s painful, like watching a car crash happen in slow motion that could have been prevented.
She’s too much of a people pleaser and rushes to justify her actions to her horrible boss instead of standing up for herself.
Jess does eventually end up redeeming herself at the end, but it only seems to be promoted by learning she actually didn’t cheat on Nick.
Overall, this was a miss for me.
I don't know why I waited so long to read this book as I thoroughly enjoyed it. I spent the majority of a long flight devouring Jess' injustices through her work journey and read about her finding love again. It was such a fantastic read and I credit the author at writing such an addictive book that I found difficult to put down.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
I enjoyed this quick and fun romance.
Easy and low stakes read set in Scotland. I couldn't help picturing Jess and Nick from "New Girl" while reading, which made for a slightly odd reading experience. I didn't feel super invested in the central romance plot, but I liked the family stuff, and the zoo setting a lot. Could see this being a good choice for your poolside or beachside reading! Thank you very much to NetGalley and the publisher Canelo for an early copy in exchange for my honest review.
Just Like That by Nina Kaye is a heartwarming and witty novel that follows the ups and downs of modern relationships. Kaye's relatable characters and engaging storytelling make this a delightful read for fans of contemporary romance.
Nina Kaye's "Just Like That" is a delightful romantic comedy that will leave readers swooning and smiling in equal measure. Set against the backdrop of an animal park in East Lothian, this charming tale follows the unlikely romance between Jess, an events manager turned reluctant carer, and Nick, the head keeper with a heart of gold.
From the moment Jess steps into the animal park, readers are whisked away on a delightful journey filled with humour, heart, and a healthy dose of animal antics. Kaye's vivid descriptions and witty prose bring the park to life, creating a vibrant and enchanting setting that serves as the perfect backdrop for the budding romance between Jess and Nick.
What sets "Just Like That" apart is its endearing characters and heartfelt storytelling. Jess is a relatable and likable protagonist, whose journey of self-discovery and growth is both heart-warming and inspiring. As she navigates the challenges of caring for her brother while also juggling her career, readers can't help but root for her every step of the way. Likewise, Nick is a charming and complex character whose gruff exterior belies a tender heart and a deep passion for the animals under his care.
The chemistry between Jess and Nick is electric, crackling with tension and sizzling with attraction. Their banter is playful and entertaining, providing plenty of laughs along the way. As they clash and collide, both figuratively and literally, readers will find themselves eagerly turning the pages to see if these opposites can find common ground and maybe even find love in the process.
Moreover, "Just Like That" is more than just a romance; it's a celebration of love in all its forms. From the bond between siblings to the connection between humans and animals, Kaye beautifully explores the power of love to heal, transform, and unite.
Just Like That by Nina Kaye is a cute short read. The plot was simple and very easy to follow. The main character and her love interest were cute but there was just too much miscommunication going around. At the end it just got kind of stale and I wanted to DNF it. Would I read it again? No. Anyways, 3/5 stars.

I really enjoyed this book; it had a lot more depth then when I first started and thought ‘ oh so obvious what’s going to happen here’. What I thought would happen did; but with a much more involved and interesting storyline than I had initially expected. As an overview; high flyer Jess receives a call to say her brother is unwell; upon rushing to hospital she meets a stranger who she had an argument with. This is the story of Jess navigating her new life as carer to her brother; whilst taking on a different role at work at the same time as trying to keep her life together. I really really enjoyed this book.
Just like that by Nina Kaye
This was such a cute story! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an e-arc!
Jess is a very successful Events Manager and is in high demand. So much so that another company would love to have her as part of their team. Her current boss knows and understands this so Jess is shocked when her boss assigns her to much smaller events following her brother's stroke. Granted, she would be his primary caregiver, however, she was willing to do what it took to succeed at a job she loved.
Things changed when she was assigned to help East Lothian Wildlife Park keep their doors open. While falling in love with the animals, Jess and Nick, the head zookeeper were clashing on every turn. Eventually, he comes around and sees value in Jess's suggestions and even offers to help.
Nick has his struggles to contend with and comes across as harsh, arrogant, and rude. Once the communication lines open up they are found working together to keep the zoo open and secure a home for the animals.
This was a fun read and if you love animals and rom-coms then this book is for you!
The animals really made this story shine! The enemies to lovers plot was also a BIG part of the book and it was great fun.
I really, really enjoyed this romance! It was sweet and adorable all wrapped into one. I highly recommend for romance lovers.
Aye, I was hoping to enjoy this one. The plot and dialogue lack big time - one minute I think I have it figured out, the next it’s something completely different. Jess & Nick’s relationship initially starts out as enemies to lovers, or so the reader thinks. But then, it becomes instalove. Kinda like a, “Wait, what?” moment, where the reader isn’t sure what’s happening, but it’s happening! Not a big fan of this one because I just couldn’t follow. It took too much brain power to figure out, but I need fluffy! Thanks for the opportunity to read!
A really fun and charming read with an enjoyable premise and gorgeous characters. I would highly recommend.
I received this book for free for an honest unbiased review from Netgalley.
I wish more books were this well written. Characters were witty and the setting fantastic.
I like my romance with a good dash of realism and this really delivers. The ingredients are all there- the dashing hero, the ambitious heroine and the will they/ won't they encounters. There's also a really tender through line about disability and family and the highs and lows of being a carer for someone you love. Author Nina Kaye also makes a strong comment about how employers often treat those with caring responsibilities and how inflexible working environments can be. Add in a glorious Edinburgh and East Lothian setting that had me googling photos (especially those beaches) and this is a really satisfying read that will stay with me.
Another good read
Perfect book to curl up with and to get lost in
Will have you hooked from the first page
