This is a great romcom! Jess is an event planner and her job is going so well she might be up for a promotion. When her brother has a devastating stroke she becomes his caregiver. Because of her limited time her boss downgrades her projects. She ends us having a failing wildlife park as her new client. She is definitely not thrilled with this and is even less happy when she clashes with the head zoo keeper. Nick and Jess are fun characters and it was interesting to see their relationship develop. I enjoyed this book and if you love romcoms give this one a try!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and of course the author for gifting me this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Following the life of Jess, who's whole world is turned upside down when her brother has a stroke and she has to sidestep her blossoming career (and talks of promotion) to step in and be his carer. However due to her boss being less than thrilled at her turn in personal circumstances she ends up working in a small animal farm under the watchful eye of Nick, the arrogant head keeper.
Loved this story, had some very up and down moments that had me welling up and laughing out loud and the characters were so loveable and the story overall held me captive. Wish I could read this story again for the first time.
When I first started this book, I had a feeling it was going to make me cry and it succeeded. I enjoyed the relationship between the main characters and their witty banter. It was a refreshing read based in an animal encloser.
Thank you to Canelo and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. The above opinions are my own.
3.5 stars rounded to 4 stars 🥰
Jess is enjoying and succeeding in her current Events Management job, smashing every high profile event she is given. Suddenly her world falls apart when her brother has a stroke. Jess doesn’t think twice about stepping in and being his carer, meaning she has to take a step back from her job as she can’t commit full time anymore. She is appointed to smaller jobs which includes helping East Lothian Wildlife Park to stay open. Nick is a zookeeper at the park, and they don’t get off to the best start. However, could this be the start of a wonderful love story? Will Jess help keep the wildlife park afloat so they don’t go bankrupt? Definitely read this book if you want to find out.
I really enjoyed this book, it was an easy read which I read in a couple of days. I loved the story line, however one thing that I disliked was Jess’ attitude in some chapters and it made me dislike the book at points. I also thought Jess’ best friend Amelia played a random part in the book and she wasn’t really very necessary to the story! It was still a lovely book though and I definitely want to read more from Nina as her writing style was so easy to read!
I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.
This was not for me from the beginning! I found the female protagonist rude and unlikeable and couldn't connect with her at all to even care about the story.
I never would have imagined a romance book set in a Scottish zoo would exist, but it does. Enemies to lovers is the superior trope for me and this book does the trope justice. Nick's grumpiness is great, Jess is a strong FMC. I enjoyed reading.
I love an enemies to lovers romance so this book was a no brainier! It was a great slow-burn romance with forced proximity in a lovely Scottish setting. I particularly loved the tension between jess and nick. While the characters weren’t always perfect (who is) I didn’t find this took away from the story itself. This was an enjoyable read that I would recommend.
I liked this enemies to lovers story, especially as an animal lover. I liked the Scottish setting and the book had heart. I'd recommend to any romcom lover.
In "Just Like That" by Nina Kaye, readers are treated to a charming and relatable romance that navigates the intricacies of life, love, and unexpected challenges. With a blend of humor and heart, this book is a delightful journey into the lives of Jess and Nick, two individuals whose worlds collide in the most unexpected way.
Jess is riding high on the success of her career in events management, until her world is upended when she becomes her brother's caregiver following his sudden stroke. Her demotion at work leads her to the East Lothian Wildlife Park, where she crosses paths with Nick, the head keeper. Their initial clash reveals a dynamic filled with tension, misunderstandings, and a hint of undeniable attraction.
Kaye skillfully captures the complexity of Jess's life as she navigates newfound responsibilities while trying to keep her professional life afloat. The author paints a vivid picture of the challenges of caregiving and the toll it takes on Jess's emotional well-being. In contrast, Nick's pragmatic and seemingly carefree attitude masks his own personal struggles, adding depth to his character.
The chemistry between Jess and Nick is palpable, and their banter and clashes create a sense of anticipation throughout the story. The slow-burning romance is a highlight, as it's built upon genuine connection and shared experiences, making it all the more satisfying.
The backdrop of the animal park adds a unique and endearing touch to the narrative, creating moments of heartwarming interaction between the characters and the animals they care for. Kaye's writing brings the setting to life, making it feel like a character in its own right. All in all, "Just Like That" is a captivating romance that balances heartache and humor. This novel is a must-read that will leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling long after you've turned the last page.
I'm absolutely speechless at the masterpiece that this book is 🤩 Y'ALL LISTEN LISTENNNNN
I'll go ahead and be honest and say I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. I thought it would be a cute read with a simple plot, and while that was EXACTLY what it was, it was also everything I wanted in a book. It was light and soft and easy to read but it was also deep and meaningful ane below-the-surface while also never losing its playfulness. I'm so enchanted, not ny the novel only but it's characters and the phenomenal writing style.
I absolutely loved the tension between the MCs and how it builds over the course of the book and how everything ties together at the end...my heart is so full. 💖

LOVED! This book was just fabulous. I loved the dynamic between Jess and Nick, Jess and Seth, and the whole East Lothian Wildlife Park staff! Rana was a wonderful side-character 🐻 who was the best addition! I loved so many things about it that I don’t want to give away because they’re spoilers. Just read to find out!

The plus thing for the whole plot is Rana. Without that bear I don't think I would've continued reading it. Scenes with Rana added a lot of emotions. She is the hero here.
I liked the chemistry between leads. But a little understanding between them would've made it easier for them. Though I liked that Jess went for a break up, when she thought she cheated, rather than just hiding and continuing. I felt it's more of Jess's story than both Jess and Nick's.
The plot is fine and this is a one-time read for me. I did enjoy but it didn't grab me wholly into it. I would give this 3.5.
I really enjoyed this especially since it mentioned Edinburgh, one of my favorite cities in the world. Cute and lovely romance, heartwarming and so funny.
This book was definitely unique, and I’m pretty sure that’s a good thing! I really enjoyed it, and I can’t wait to read more from this author.
Thank you for my earc. I loved the premise of this but found it really difficult to get into. Unfortunately I didn’t finish.
This is my first Nina Kaye novel and I really can’t wait to read more. This book is a cute romance plot set in Scotland, with the back drop of the animal enclosure. The narrative is fast paced and I liked the miscommunication and enemies to lovers trope. It was a little frustrating at times to deal with the FMC’s constant misunderstanding and lack of communication but the other characters such as MMC, FMC’s brother, best friend and colleagues all make up for it.
Just Like That explores some hard hitting and emotional topics such as disability and parental estrangement which added a lot of depth to the plot. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and I highly recommend this to other romance enthusiasts.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my ARC.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with this book.
This book was good. I enjoyed it and thought it was cute. However, I did not like the main character Jess. She messed up her life and complicated things.
In Nina Kaye’s Just Like That, FMC Jess suddenly becomes the caregiver to her brother, and she must navigate this new role with her existing role as an event planner. In the process, she meets Nick, an employee of one of her event clients, and sparks fly.
I had a little bit of trouble connecting with the characters in this story, but that could be because I’m not such a fan of the miscommunication trope, which is a driving force of the plot. Jess keeps a lot of secrets, and Nick says a lot of things that Jess often misconstrues.
I really did like the setting of the wildlife park, and witnessing Nick in his element. The baby sun bear really steals the show in this one.
Just Like That is available now. If miscommunication is your thing, have a read and let us know what you think. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. My review and opinions are my own.
Sadly, I could not finish this book. It took me a while to get into and I had to DNF as it just wasn’t for me. Thank you NetGallery for the ARC and for the chance to read it
