Accidental Attachment
By Max Monroe
What’s it about?
Brooke is a popular author who writes paranormal romance. But after many successful series books, she’s coming up dry on the next installment. Instead she gets drunk on wine and writes a sexual fantasy book starring both her editor, Chase, and herself under the guise of different names. In her drunken haze, she accidentally sends him that fantasy book–and he loves it, even going to bat for it to publish.
If that isn’t enough, Brooke has to go on a Netflix tour for the TV show adaptation of her books–and Chase volunteers to be her RV driver so they can work on her book together. Brooke also has a medical condition that makes her pass out under stress and a service dog, Benji, who wears superhero costumes and accompanies her everywhere.
The longer Chase and Brooke are forced together, the more they can’t deny their mutual attraction.
My thoughts:
There are a lot of cute things in this book. I love a cinnamon roll hero, and Chase is definitely the epitome of that stereotype. He’s so good to Brooke that I wanted to reach through the pages and hug him.
Benji, the service dog, was my favorite character. I love how he alerts when he detects that Brooke is in distress, and I thought it was really interesting to read about the role of a service dog in everyday life.
Brooke was a hot mess with an overly creative use of metaphors. (Seriously, some of the metaphors used in this book made me cringe. I started keeping a list of the super weird ones and sharing them with my friends. Note: never use the word “episiotomy” when referring to planning for a man’s size. Highly triggering for a lot of women).
Also, there was a really bizarre sub-plot about finding Benji the dog’s border collie girlfriend that they bumped into one day at the park.
TLDR: Overall, the main plot was a lot of fun, and the book within a book was great too. I loved Chase and Benji, but wish Brooke wasn’t trying so hard to be funny all the time. Also, metaphors.
In regards to the audiobook, no surprise that CJ Bloom and Joe Arden are amazing. I adore them both and they did an amazing job on this one.
If liked Book Lovers by Emily Henry then I think you will adore this witty romance! I love Brooke's way of speaking and over analyzing it makes me feel so comfortable to identify that so much as a reader and person who does it! Chase is your ultimate bad boy and is actually a marshmallow lol. I love Benji he deserves his own novella! I kind of knew where this was going with the list and etc. I wish they had talked it out instead of leaving each other. I would read her sister and the doctor's love story next. I highly recommend this and thank you Netgalley for this ARC, These words are my own.
I laughed so hard! This was just the audiobook I needed after a tough day. My cheeks still hurt from laughing so much.
Brooke is such an entertaining character, especially with her service dog helping her through all her medical spells.
Chase is a kind-hearted and genuine guy, you can't help but love him, even though he's completely clueless most of the time.
As someone who loves to write fan fiction and have that outlet for my unattainable crushes, I could totally see this scenario happen in real life.
I have mixed feelings about it. Don't get me wrong, I love Max Monroe's writing, but this one just felt too long. The first half of the book dragged on without any significant events happening, but once the romantic moments kicked in, it got better. I fell in love with the characters, especially Brooke, Chase, and their furry friend, Benji. The audiobook was also enjoyable with great narration that brought the characters to life. The humor was on point and had me laughing out loud multiple times. Despite some slow moments, the world-building and secondary characters added depth to the story. Overall, Accidental Attachment is a decent read with some sweet and romantic moments, but it's not my favorite by Max Monroe.
Brooke is going through a lot. So much change and without her beloved and much needed service dog Benji she’d truly be lost. He is her lifeline and best friend and knows all of her deepest most private secrets, one of which is that she is head over heels in love/lust with her new book editor. It is a secret she’s prepared to take to her grave. After a few too many glasses of wine she sends in her latest and in her opinion NOT greatest manuscript to Chase, the man of her dreams. Only she sends the wrong manuscript and its all about Chase, only he is clueless and now she has to spend the next few months working on the book with him. Yikes! It’s funny, silly, ironic, smart, and the heat between them is palpable. Will they figure it out and find their way to each other and if so, can they make a real go of it? A truly enjoyable laugh out loud listen with exactly the ending we read this genre for. Enjoy!
I received a copy of this audiobook from Netgalley.com in exchange for a fair and honest review.
The narrators were just right! CJ was a perfect Brookewith the kooky and silliness. I'm obsessed with Benji. With a GSD of my own, his personality was perfect lol.
Brooke is just an overflowing bowl of cute nuttiness; Chase is overflowing with masculinity, attractiveness, and sweetness. The side characters were perfectly placed and perfectly evened out.
Wonder if Noah and Sammy will get a story? :)
I received an ALC from Netgalley for my honest opinion

I love Brooke. I mean who wouldn't? She is so quirky and funny. Brooke is an author who just has her last series picked up by Netflix. She has a new book she needs to turn in and she knows it's trash. She does not want to turn it into her new, sexy, editor Colin. So whats a writer to do about her crush on her editor? Write about it of course.
But what happens after drinking and rushing to turn it your crap new novel? Turn in your crap new novel and see what happens... only it wasn't the crap novel. It was the book staring Brooke and Colin.
I absolutely ADORE this story, It is the first book I have read from author Max Monroe and it definitely will not be my last. I hope there is a second book in this story because I need to know what happens with Brooke's sister.
You have a new fan Max. Everyone else, pick up this book. You will not regret it.
A super cute, funny and sometimes spicy romance with adorable characters and an even more adorable dog (who wears superhero capes). This was great, the FMC is so funny and witty without being annoying and I also found it really unique she had this medical condition, I've never heard of, but Max Monroe gives a good reputation to it without letting it hinder Brooke's life. This was very slow burn and it did feel a bit long but apart from that I loved it. The romance was so cute and they have so much chemistry, Chase is a really well written MC and is also quirky in his own way. Overall I highly recommend and I will be checking more out by this author.
Review for Accidental Attachment by Max Monroe
Another hit by Max Monroe! Their signature hilarious banter had me LOLing throughout the book.
The MFC internal dialog is hilarious. Trying to move on after a divorce, Brooke with her best puppy pal, Benji end up on an accidental road trip with her Hot AF editor, Chase. Yes. The one she happened to write a little fan fiction about and then accidentally sent to him.
Chase is a sweet AF co-star in this book, who honestly seems about perfect. He is gentle and understanding with Brooke — right up until that one part when all shit hits the fan.
However, you know all Max Monroe books are HEAs, and this one is sweet as ever. Plus the Extended Epilogue made it even better!
LOVED:
- Hilarious banter/internal dialog from MFC
- Sweet sexy MMC
- Cameos from previous MC in Max Monroe Books :)
- “And I want to remember every single second. I want this to be a core memory that I remember for the rest of life. And afterlife and a million after lives after that. “
- Sending the book was an accident, but you and I, we were meant to be.”
Also — the audiobook was perfect. The narrators are phenomenal and great fits for these characters!
Wished/Thoughts:
-WTF was going on with the weird roommate? I know this kind of doesn't matter in the story, however it was a side thing that didn't get resolved.
- The authors mention the book is long. Believe them LOL. It is good and not sure there is anything 'cutable' however it felt long.
Thank you to NetGalley and Max Monroe LLC who provided me with a copy of this audiobook. In exchange I am giving an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to preview this title.
This story was well written and the perfect amount of humor and quirkiness from the main female character Brooke. The narrators on the audio also do a fantastic job at keeping the story enticing. This book follows the journey of Brooke and her trusty sidekick, superhero service dog Benji on an adventure to play off what could be the best mistake of Brooke’s life. This was a very cute rom com that I would definitely recommend to fellow readers.
This book had me laughing. I listened to the audio and CJ Bloom and Joe Arden did a fantastic job. I could not stop listening. Their trip for a netflix series tour was fantastic. Just the right amount of crazy. Brooke and Chase are a match made from heaven I swear. Through in Benji with his little huffs and attitude and it was great.
Oh man, I laughed so hard during this audiobook! I love books that show the world of authors and their crazy dedicated fans… I have a new appreciation for them after going to my first big author signing last year! Brooke has the off the wall humor that I have come to associate with these two authors, she was so funny and witty throughout the story! Chase was a great male lead and Joe Arden did a great job narrating him, but all my enjoyment came from Brooke and Benji! I am a huge sucker for awesome pet characters and this one really out did itself with Benji and all of his superhero costumes! CJ Bloom did a great job narrating both parts, her southern accent for Chase was a bit stronger than Joe’s but that was easy to get over.
We have yet to meet a Max Monroe story we don’t love, and this thick beauty is no exception! In true Max Monroe fashion, this story is hilarious, beautifully layered, with a perfect pace to keep you listening.
FMC Brooke is a writer who accidentally turns in the wrong book to her super hot editor, MMC Chase. The book she ends up turning in is her super spicy fanfic of the crush she has on her editor, and he is oblivious to the fact that the MMC in said story is inspired by him.
Brooke’s novel of Clive and River is expertly layered into the story, and thank goodness because Brooke and Chase’s story is a very slooooow burn. Thankfully you get the spicy scenes from Brooke’s novel as well as her fantasies about her editor.
Rae’s favourite part was the close proximity road trip. It was absolutely delightful and delivered the perfect opportunity for banter, tension and chaos. (The squirrel!) Amy loved the outstanding side characters, including the costume-wearing superhero service dog. These amazing people, like Brooke’s sister added to the relatability of the characters. We also adored all the hidden Easter eggs for their other books!
This audiobook is performed by dynamic duo of CJ Bloom and Joe Arden. These performers take this great story and to the next level, and their performances truly keep you listening. Absolutely outstanding audiobook.
I really enjoyed this read. this book had such a great plot, it starts off a little slow but before you know it you are so invested you cant stop reading ! Brooke and Chase are the it couple. this book had me laughing and aweing, so many adorable scenes in this read. would definitely recommend! thank you to net galley for allowing me to read early!
Max Monroe does it again. I was so excited when I was approved for this #netgalley #arc.
Brooke and Chase have chemistry from our first introduction. Their story evolves both naturally and comedically in a way that has you yelling to the book "kiss each other already!" And can we talk about Benji? Hooray for Monroe developing a heroine with a medical condition and service dog. Let's normalize that we are all different and celebrate that fact because we ALL deserve smutty rom-com and happily ever afters!
A sentence from the book to summarize this book? "If working on a contemporary romance book while simultaneously living through a real-life forced-proximity trope isn’t irony, then I don’t know what is."
This is my first book by Max Monroe, and how in the world was this the first book? I am a fan girl now; I will be buying all of her books this year, lol.
This has to be one of my favorite romance novels of all time. It was fun, cute, and hilarious. The romance content of this book was the perfect combo of tease + spicy. I LOVED Chase and Brooke, AND BENJI, her German shepherd service dog; uhhhhh, my heart can't take it; this book was everything. Brooke and Chase were so cute together, their chemistry was like no other, and they were all well-developed.
I loved that it was a bit of a slow burner, but she added spice in slow parts to keep you reading and entertained. I love the forced-proximity trope as well ass forbidden romance, and this book was just a great one.
The audio itself was terrific, I listened to various audios, and this one was perfect I finished it in two days.
Thank you so much, Max Monroe
Net Galley + Rick for the arc,
Chase risks everything when he pushes to publish Brooke’s new book, instead of the contracted book she was supposed to send him. Brooke never meant to send him the book she did (it was a book based on them, after all), but once she did, it started a snowball effect.
Brooke is kind of neurotic and a lot sassy, but she is also the funniest and kind. She also has a crush on Chase, which makes the tour extremely different. Chase is an editor who is on a strict deadline so he offers to drive her on the tour.
The banter and connection was fantastic and the relationship seems realistic to me. While there is a lot of laughs in this book, there are also some relatable situations that make the book more realistic.
The narrators did a fantastic job of bringing Chase and Brooke to life. CJ is a new narrator, but I really enjoyed her performance and would definitely listen to more by her. Joe always does a fantastic job and he did not disappoint. I loved every minute of their portrayal.
I received an ARC and this is my honest, voluntary review.
Accidental Attachment is the newest Max Monroe novel to hit the stands, and as usual you’re going to love it! This book is about an author, Brooke, who has a secret crush on her new editor, Chase. To process this crush, she writes a secret book about the two of them, titled (can you guess?) Accidental Attachment. She has just finished up a promised book for her publisher, and when she is supposed to be attaching and sending the book with which she is very unsatisfied, she attaches Accidental Attachment instead. Instead of rejecting the book as it didn’t satisfy her contract, Chase loves the book, puts his career on the line to advocate publishing it, and the publishing house agrees to do so. This would have to be Brooke’s worst nightmare as she will now have to work closely with Chase on a book written about him. An unusual set of circumstances result in the couple doing this in close proximity for three weeks in a motor home. What follows is a romantic comedy which is Max Monroe gold. One of the things I loved about this book, which had me laughing out loud on the regular, is that as ridiculous as the scenarios these two find themselves in, I could see at least half or more of them happening to me.. This is a slow burn, secret crush, forced proximity love story which had me rolling on the floor. I didn’t want to pause the book to sleep because I was so invested in Brooke and Clives’s story and their chemistry was off the charts! Additionally CJ Bloom and Joe Arden were the perfect performers to narrate this book. They read Brooke and Clive as if they were Brooke and Clive. Both narrators are superb at romantic comedy and enhanced my reading experience. If you love a good love story and love to laugh, I recommend that you run, not walk, to whatever device or store that you use for your reading material and start this book today. I am submitting this review after listening to an advanced complementary copy of this audiobook.
Brooke is a successful author struggling with writer block and wrote another book to fulfill her fantasies. Then she accidentally attached the wrong manuscript. In true Max Monroe fashion the story is outrageous and a blast to listen to.
I was really excited to listen to Accidental Attachment, unfortunately it did not live up to my excitement. The audio wasn’t bad, I just didn’t connect with it. I’m sure many will like this book, but I just couldn’t finish the entire book.
