I really struggled through this audiobook. The narrators did a great job. I enjoyed both of their voices. This book dragged on for me. It’s a very long book with not a lot going on. The heroine was extra sweet and the hero was perfect in her eyes. I need real characters with real flaws. There just wasn’t very much conflict to keep me interested in the story. I just don’t think this books was for me. Thanks to the audiobook publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.
I totally enjoy Max Monroe - these two are such a hoot, and so are their books! Accidental Attachment is no exception. I laughed the entire way through. I loved it!
Accidental Attachment is a double entendre, being the title of the book our main character, author Brooke Baker, is writing on the side about swoony new editor Chase Dawson, who she has a big, secret crush on. She’s supposed to be writing a fantasy novel that follows after the trilogy that was wildly successful and has been picked up as a new Netflix series, and the new book is expected to reach the same success… but she’s written a pile of crud. She writes the steamy romance novel about her and the new editor as a side-project, and it’s never supposed to see the light of day.
Brooke “accidentally” attached it to the email she sends to Chase when she’s sending in the other book, Gardens of Time… (whoops, too much wine), and the mistake snowballed until suddenly, the two are on a road trip with him driving her on her Netflix tour while they edit the book - the accidental book that wasn’t supposed to be seen, and both fighting their attraction. Brooke’s superhero dog Benji (service dog to help with her fainting issue) totally steals the show, and I adored Chase and Brooke’s sisters as great side characters.
The audio was narrated by two of my very favorites, Joe Arden and CJ Bloom, and they were absolutely perfect! I love them both so much, and there couldn’t have been better voices for these characters! 5-stars all around, for the writing, storyline and narrating! 100% recommend this, especially the audio, for everybody!
I received an advance review and listen copy from NetGalley and Max Monroe LLC, and this is my honest feedback.
I loved the narrators with this story as well as the story itself. I loved Brooke and Chase and how their chemistry unfolded. They both needed each other and the way they came together kept me up late reading every word. I laughed so much throughout this story and couldn’t wait to see how they came together. I am going to go back and read Max’s past stories and I can’t wait for the next one!
I thoroughly enjoyed the concept of the story and the forced closeness during the tour. Brooke's adorably awkward and fun personality was simply delightful. Chase, on the other hand, is the perfect leading man and is easily book boyfriend material. His love for Brooke's previous and current works was endearing, and he found her to be the cutest and funniest person ever.
However, the book's length was a hindrance to my enjoyment, and it contained several redundant details that could have been edited out, especially given Chase's profession as an editor. Brooke's attempts at humor to mask her insecurities were a bit over the top, and the love story, although sweetly developed throughout the book, was too slow. The lack of quality time between the couple was disappointing, and the sudden ending felt rushed.
Furthermore, there was a particular line from Chase that felt out of character and didn't quite fit with the overall tone of the book. While I have no qualms about foul language, this particular line just didn't seem like something Chase would say.
Overall, the book had a slow-burn close proximity humor that I found enjoyable, despite its flaws. The audiobook read by CJ Bloo and Joe Arden was fantastic. They are always a delightful mesh of voice and an auto listen.
I thought the audiobook was done really well. I liked how the voices were done. This book was really good. It was so funny and the romance was great. It’s a slow burn, forced proximity, workplace romance and I couldn’t get enough of it. It’s light hearted with some great characters. I loved Benji and the author/editor combo. The sexual context was great and there was a perfect amount of spice. The characters were so lovable and I was rooting for them right from the start.
This review is for the Audiobook verison of Accidental Attachment.
The cover for this book caught my eye and the blub had me crossing my fingers I'd get selected to be able to listen to an ARC of this one. I was so excited when I got selected and started right away.
However the first chapter or two in, I'm nervous I'm not going to like it. The female narrator takes a minute to get used to, she talks quickly like someone excitedly telling you about their day, add that to her keeping the same speed and inflection reading snippets from the book inside the book and her normal female protagonist voice and I had to rewind and relisten to some parts to seperate it out and figure out whats going on. DO NOT give up here! After a few chapters the ways she read quickly becomes perfect for the character. That excited story teller voice is exactly what you would imagine Brooke to talk like. And the snippets from the book inside the book before few and further between and easily distinguished when they happen. The first chapter by the male narrator, his accent seemed a bit silly but I quickly adjusted to him and enjoyed his parts as well too.
The book does have spice, and a love story. Chase is a dreamboat and the story is cute. And while I enjoy those things alot it was Brookes character that made this book a 5 star for me. She is so fun and quick-witted.
I could write so much more because I sincerely enjoyed this book and I have a book girl crush on Brooke but I don't want to spoil anything for anyone. If your looking for a fun summer read/listen, I definitely suggest this one!
Audio book review
This is a slow burn romantic comedy that I wouldn’t mind listening to again. The slow burn is why I’m giving 3 stars because I tend to enjoy faster paced stories. It was an incredible story though!
Accidental Attachment is a stand-alone book by the duo Max Monroe. Brooke Baker is a well-known author that is sassy but anxious. Chase Dawson is a confident and supportive man that any girl would fall for. He is also Brooke’s editor. Benji, we can’t forget about Benji, Brooke’s service dog steals the spotlight on many occasions and even gets his own HEA. So sweet!
How do you tell someone you wrote a story and yourself and them without it being detrimental to the relationship you’ve built with them? Is the plot of this story throughout and it really adds to the slow burn tension. How will he find out? What will his reaction be? Will Brooke be okay with how it plays out? This Netflix tour they are going on is going to be a LONG ride.
CJ Bloom does a fabulous job of narrating Brooke with her sass and the emotions that come with her medical condition. Her voice is very easy to get lost in while listening. CJ and Joe together were a new one for me but they went together like bread and butter. Joe really brought out those emotions towards the end of the book and had those tears flowing. I was so nervous for Brooke and her getting her HEA. Overall, I loved these two as a pair in narrating this.
This was my first book for the duo Max Monroe but they are now on my list of new authors to look into more. If you enjoy slow burn romances, I would recommend this book to you.
This narration was perfect and brought the characters to life. I didn’t want to stop listening. I also really loved the country twang in Chase’s voice.
Brooke is HILARIOUS. She had me laughing out loud at her rambling and the things that came out of her mouth. She was becoming extremely famous and remained humble. She has an adorable service dog named Benji, that she has entire conversations with, which I adored. She’s a hot mess but I loved it.
Chase is the kindest, sweetest man. He makes sure things are always running smoothly for Brooke and is always so encouraging. They are the perfect match.
I loved their journey from her admiring him from afar, to being thrown together for work, then accidentally forced in a close proximity scenario to falling completely head over heels for each other. Swoon.

I received an ALC (Advanced Listener Copy) of this audiobook from NetGalley.
3 Stars ⭐⭐⭐🎧
I liked the idea of this story. I loved that she talks to her dog like he knows exactly what she is saying. I really enjoyed Chase's character he was open and honest throughout. Brooke was very insecure and that sometimes came off wrong. I did love that she helped her sister when she needed it.
I wasn't really surprised with the fall out at the end because when you lye it always, but always comes out. Then you have hurt the person you didn't want to and it all could have been avoided if you had just been honest.
I enjoyed the narration, I thought they both did a good job giving us the emotions. So I would listen to them again for sure.
Thank you for the ARC of this amazing audiobook. Not only is the story hilarious (laugh out loud funny) and the banter and one liners are just to die for but the narrators are beyond amazing too.

Accidental Attachment follows Brooke, a fantasy author with an upcoming TV adaptation that has to turn in her latest manuscript to her new (hot AF) editor. However, late one night she accidentally sends her secret spicy romance manuscript to him instead... that’s based on her crush on him. Now she has to travel across the States with him in a motorhome on a Netflix tour so they can edit the book quickly.
Firstly, I don’t know if anyone's writing is as witty, sharp and entertaining as this author duo. I was cackling and I have to say, if I didn't already have a crush on CJ Bloom I would now. She absolutely nailed Brooke’s quirky personality and Chase’s Southern accent.
Now, onto the characters. Brooke is awkward, hilarious, self-deprecating and a joy to read about. Then you have Chase, who's charming and considerate from their first interaction. I love how he supported and championed Brooke every step of the way.
These two are so good together but this is a big book with a slow burn. You've been warned! I feel like at one point you could cut the sexual tension in that motorhome with a knife.
I also can't forget to mention the star supporting characters, including both of their sisters and Benji. The book wouldn't have been the same without them.
So when you need a laugh with a side of love, I highly recommend listening to Accidental Attachment.
Thank you to Max Monroe and NetGalley for the early copy.
I'll be honest, this book deserves more than a 4, 4 .5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
This is what I want in a rom-com, two smitten characters who bring the laughs and find themselves in awkward positions.
Brooke is a successful writer with a crush on her editor, Chase. Facing a deadline and too much to drink is not a good combination for Brooke, especially when she attaches the wrong file and sends Chase the spicy fan-fic romance inspired by her fantasies of the two of them. When Chase reads the manuscript, he doesn't know it's about them and loves it. He convinces his boss to publish it. Under time constraints and a tour to promote Brooke’s book series being turned into a Netflix series, the two hit the open road together in a tour bus to work on revisions and editing between promotional stops.
This is the longest book written by this pair, which made the slow burn….slow, but it’s worth it and so well done. The relationship developed at a natural pace, and didn't feel overly prolonged. The book is filled with funny, sweet, and swoony moments, making it light and fluffy, with a short, intense moment.
Brooke’s quirky and cute inner monologues, conversations with her superhero service dog, Benji, and her awkwardness around Chase kept me laughing and smiling throughout the entire book. Her character hooked me right from the start, and her lovable personality filled the pages.
Brooke and Chase are adorable together. Chase is a complete cinnamon roll and Brooke’s biggest cheerleading. He’s easygoing and the perfect balance for Brooke. Brooke is clumsy, funny, and often critical of herself. These are two lovable characters.
This hilariously, lighthearted, close proximity slow burn romance will bring a smile to your face and have you laughing with all the awkwardness and witty banter.
I switched between reading and listening to the audiobook. Let me add how great the casting was. The audiobook narrators did a fantastic job showing the characters’ personalities.
This was so funny. I was literally laughing out loud at my desk during work... and the serving hands embarrassment I feel for this girl. What a fun and funny ride!
Brook was quirky, funny, awkward and a bit of a klutz. She suffers from a condition called vasovagal syncope so she has a cape wearing super hero service dog Called Benji. Brook was a lovable character who had long and hilariously self deprecating inner monologue. Her one sided conversations with her dog were adorable.
Chase was diligent, passionate, easy going, funny and sincere; He was the perfect book boyfriend. Brooks manuscript had impressed him so much that he was ready to put his job on the line. Since Chase and Brook were on road travelling across the country to promote her Netflix show they develop a platonic friendship. This a slow burn with some steamy intimate scenes. The third-act conflict is brief and resolved quickly. Overall this was fun and entertaining story with characters that got along with each other. All the side characters including Benji were exuberant and lively. I genuinely enjoyed this, do pick this up if you are in the mood for a light hearted story with low angst and characters that give you second hand embarrassment . I listened to the audiobook narrated by C. J. Bloom and Joe Arden. They've done a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life
How many times have you sent an incorrect email?? I don't mean riddled with spelling and grammar errors but an email that should have never have seen the light of day? If you have been a lucky one that has never made this fatal error then consider yourself lucky but if you are not than you can totally relate to the heroine Brooke in this great read.
Brooke, author of a successful series is on the deadline crunch to turn in her manuscript that she is less than in love with. While under the influence of wine and desperation she sends a manuscript that was never meant to see the light of day to her editor who also is her crush and the fictional hero of the incorrect manuscript. In a series of follies that only Max Monroe can create she ends up touring the country while doing the final edits on this error of manuscripts that her publisher is taking a huge chance on.
Chase, the editor and the recipient of Brooke's feelings is in the dark about the true nature of this manuscript that he received. He puts his career on the line because he feels that this piece of Brooke's work is worth it and finds himself driving her around the country on a promotional tour just to get the manuscript read for publication. What he doesn't expect is to fall in love with Brooke.
Will the truth of the manuscript come out? Will this pair find an HEA?? One needs to read and find out in this funny adventure.
I for one was not disappointed in this book. I loved it from page one and was sorry that it had to come to an end. The chemistry between the characters was off the charts and this was not the typical close encounter read that I am accustomed to making it a nice change of pace. I also felt that Brooke and her error in sending the email was relatable making her feel like a relatable character. Overall, this was a great read that had me cheering for the character right up until the last page.
This was really cute, really funny! It had a lot of laughable moments (squirrels are involved) and some good spicy scenes.
A couple of problems, the dreaded 3rd act break up was a bit of a head scratcher. I felt like the reason was strange, the reactions were a bit overly exaggerated, maybe? And then the make up was really fast and felt rushed.
Also, I would love to have seen more of them during the editing process of the book. I think it would have been a great time to build chemistry.
This was an audiobook, and I will say that I really wish there was more POV from Chase because @therealjoearden is as amazing as ever! (Ravenhood fans will recognize that voice!)
I was gifted this ALC by @netgalley and the author in exchange for an honest review! Thank you!
I got to experience this story both with my eyes and my ears and I enjoyed it in both modes!
The narrators did their job perfectly! There was a difference in the pacing and emotional expression between the MMC and the FMC, and I think it perfectly represented the characters' personalities.
The book is a bout a successful author who has a crush on her new editor. And instead of working on her new book, she takes her feelings out in a fanfic. And then proceeds to submit that fanfic to her editor as her new book! Not on purpose of course. And... he loves it! (big surprise haha)
I truly loved the premise. Brooke is talented, quirky and vulnerable, with a big heart and a big adorable dog :D Chase is swoony, so caring, determined and also vulnerable. I loved that he fell in love with her mind - her books - first, and then with everything else.
The backstories were actually fresh to me - yes there are exes in their past, but not everyone is toxic and horrible.
I also really enjoyed the side characters, except maybe Mo, she seemed a bit too much. I felt so much for Sammy and I can't wait to read about her own HEA!
The steam was quite satisfying, and it played an emotional role, which is always a plus.
What keeps this book from being a five-star read for me are two things. Firstly, I thought it was a bit overwritten in the beginning, with way too much detail about everything the characters did. Took me a while to get into it, but I'm very glad I stuck with it, because the story is wroth it. And secondly, I wanted more groveling in the third act. More understanding, more apologizing, and more groveling.
In total, don't miss this story, it's funny, heartfelt and steamy, with a non-toxic, swoony MMC.
P.S. a big thank you to the author for the Grey's Anatomy references ;)
This book was hilarious! I had so many unexpected LOL moments while listening. The narrators were great too but Max really knows how to pique the readers interest. Chase is the definition of cinnamon roll character and I was swooning the entire time. Seriously the best book with a slow burn, just the right spice, and characters with an awesome dynamic and flaming chemistry. I love Accidental Attachment!
“When you know you want to spend the rest of your life with someone, you don’t wait. You shouldn’t wait. The rest of your life starts now.”
To start, I’d just like to say W O W. This is the first audio book I’ve ever encountered where I find myself craving to hear the voices of Brooke and Chase even days after finishing! I absolutely ate this one up and I’m going to do my best to not share too much but oh my gosh there were just too many little gems throughout.
This was such a happy, lighthearted but still very personable read. Kept me on my toes and interested in the story-line the entire time (not an easy task!) If nothing else, you will fall in love with this book solely for the sake of Benji, the furry main character.
Brooke, the FMC, absolutely stole my heart with her New Girl/Jessica Day vibes. I could not keep track of the amount of times I actually “L O L”ed at her sense of humor and total honesty, especially when talking to or about Chase! And Chase… oh my sweet goodness, Chase. The sexy, thoughtful, endearing, dirty little gentleman... I simply adored the maturity, intelligence and insight of this man.
Put them together? Their chemistry was absolute HOT FIRE FLAMES and their inner monologues had me rolllllling- zero filters whatsoever and entirely relatable! I can’t express enough how well this book was written and the theme was laid out. Had me absolutely captivated from start to finish and now I need more of this sweet story!!!!
•dual POV
•MMC is a total cinnamon roll
•slow burn to its core
•workplace romance
•romcom
•K9 MC
•forced proximity
•sexual tension on point
This read was a total W! *chefs kiss*
5/5 stars
4/5 spice
*the characters raw realness made even the “less intense” scenes… INTENSE. If you don’t agree, you’ll probably find this more of a 3/5’er*
I think I may have enjoyed reading this book instead of listening to it. I like the narrators. But a good share of the narration was too fast for me.
I liked the characters Brooke and Chase. Brooke has a crush on her new editor, Chase. As she was struggling with the manuscript she was supposed to be writing according to her contract, she wrote a romance book with Chase and her as the main characters. They are meeting to discuss the plans for editing the book and she is shocked to find out that she sent the wrong manuscript to him.
There are many funny moments while they travel in a RV on a book tour. I like her support dog, Benji. She has a medical condition that makes her pass out.
Thank you NetGalley & Max Monroe for the alc in exchange for an honest review.
