Thirty-one-year-old Brooke Baker has an embarrassing medical condition; she has fainting spells. She doesn’t always know she is going to faint, but her service dog Benji always knows. It is his job to protect her. Brooke is a successful writer, a series she wrote has been picked up by Netflix as a new show. Her next manuscript was due. She was drunk when her editor, Chase Dawson, emailed her asking for the rough draft of the book. She hit the send button not realizing that she attached the wrong book. Brooke has a deep crush on Chase. The man was perfection: deep blue eyes a girl could get lost in, thick black hair and a strong jaw. Brooke had it bad, so bad she wrote an erotic romance novel featuring herself and chase of course she used pseudo names. The manuscript was for her eyes only. No one else was supposed to ever see it…. Until they did. Chase was one of her biggest fans as well as her editor. He loved the book even though it fell under a different genre than her successful series. He took it to the CEO and pitched it. It was agreed they would take a chance on the manuscript however Chase’s job was on the line.
I have mixed feelings on this book. I enjoyed Benji (the smartest character in the book.) I think Brooke is an alcoholic or at least she drinks too much. I liked Chase. I thought Brooke and Chase had chemistry together. I thought he was pretty ridiculous when he became angry over being the “star” of the manuscript. He also seemed to forget that he insisted Brooke make the characters less perfect. There was nothing seriously bad on her list and yet he was furious. Now let’s discuss Brooke’s condition…there was no need to keep repeating it over and over again. By the end of the book I just didn’t care.
Hmmm....this was a very surprising disappointment - I was so excited to be given an opportunity to review this audiobook!
Brooke seems extremely immature for her 31 years, especially as someone who has had to deal with a divorce, career change and above all, her medical condition. I feel that for a good 90% of the book, she was HYSTERICAL. I was exhausted just by listening to her hectic rambling. Someone mentioned that the author wrote the women in this book as very hysterical and I could not agree more - Brooke, Sammie and Moe were all written as insane. And the worst part? Chase is just oh so amazed by Brooke, and after every single interaction I think it goes the same way - "Wow, she is just so beautiful. She does not realize how funny and amazing she is. Wow." This is immediately after Brooke cracks these "jokes" that are not at all funny, and are actually extremely cringey and in poor taste. Most of their interactions just felt so unnatural to me...Like two of the most awkward people trying to talk and flirt but none of that was at all cute. What the heck was happening when Brooke was dressing up in Benji's clothes (???) while Chase was driving? I honestly thought that I lost my mind.
Nothing about their communication or developing relationship seemed natural to me. Brooke was clearly weirdly obsessed with him since day 1 and acted like she is 14 years old experiencing her first crush. I also felt Brooke was a very inconsistent character personality wise. She had some moments of clarity where I was like hm, maybe this will turn around, until the very next page she would just go right back to rambling about Benji probably or who knows what. Also, their break up was soooooo middle school. Who reads the list that Brooke wrote about Chase, which does not sound serious whatsoever, and goes wow, this has all been a lie! I'm done. Lol, I cannot. Just two very very immature and uninteresting in my opinion people.
I think this book taught me that I hate books where MCs are just super duper awkward and base their whole personality on an illness that the authors then basically use to rewrite scenes and fill the pages - aka her "going down down down" x 483992 in this book. Or her clearly alcoholic tendencies - what's up with that? This feels SO FORCED. There's adding realness to characters and then there's Brooke and her story. Just no.
Also, how many times are they both going to say they swear the dog roller his eyes? I think the authors were going for cute when both Chase and Brooke thought of what Benji was thinking, since they're ~sooo~ connected but honestly come on.
Overall, this book was very repetitive and very long. Multiple chapters of the same thoughts and ramblings from both of the characters. If I was actually reading the book instead of listening at 1.25x, I would have given up probably 15% in. I usually try to hang on to every word when listening to a romance, but by the end of this book I didn't care at all because I knew it was probably just repetition.
Maybe this is just me, but I also really disliked both of the narrators. Although, it would be hard to read the character of Brooke and sound likable, so most likely it is not the narrator I had the issue with.
I know everyone says how much they love the authors and that this seems like a random flop but I’m definitely very wary of reading more of their books having this one be my first and this disappointing.
I'm very thankful for a chance to review this book provided by NetGalley. All opinions are my own, and unfortunately this was just not the book for me.

𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Brooke Baker is a successful writer who accidentally sends her hot new editor the wrong manuscript- the one she wrote about him but never intended to share! Oh and this includes every detail of the sexy scenes she’s imagined happening between them. And Chase Dawson may be super dreamy and super talented but he's completely unaware that he’s the main character of the manuscript. Brooke freaks out about the mistake of sending the wrong manuscript but has to quickly get over it because Chase loves it. Will she survive two months of revising and editing the sizzling romance she imagined with Chase in extremely close quarters with him? Or will the constant white lies and overwhelming attraction make her spontaneously combust? Oh and Brooke has a unique medical condition that involves occasional fainting spells, mild embarrassment, and an awesome service dog named Benji, which leads to plenty of funny scenarios throughout.
𝗠𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀: This is a long one so it took me some time to get through it- even on audio (13+ hours). I enjoyed the story and found myself laughing a lot and rooting for Brooke and Chase; however, I wasn’t obsessed with it. I love when I’m completely immersed in a book and just HAVE to find out what happens, which wasn’t quite the case with this one. Brooke is funny and Chase is endearing which makes this book a nice palate cleanser in between heavier reads. I do have a little bit of an issue with the premise of the story…. Why did Brooke write a book in secret? Why write something —an entire book— you never want to share? Thankfully, I was able to get past this enough to enjoy it.
𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: I like Joe Arden. He was great in The Good Girl Complex by Elle Kennedy. He sounded a little rushed here & maybe it’s because the book was so long. CJ Bloom did a decent job but was a little over the top for me. I think I would have preferred to read the physical book.
Thank you to the author duo Max Monroe who allowed me access to this book via @NetGalley.
3.75 Stars rounded up!
Thank you NetGalley and Max Monroe LLC for the chance to listen to this audio!
I enjoyed it immensely. I laughed, I cried, I had to set cruise control during sexy parts.
CJ Bloom and Joe Arden did superb.
I loved this book! It was a perfect mix of spice, humor, and quirk. Several other reviews mentioned it being too long, I never felt that way. I found myself laughing out loud at several points and couldn't wait for more. Brooke and Chase are great together but Benji and Dolly are IT. I enjoyed the details and storyline. Would def recommend this one. #accidentalattachment #NetGalley
The is book has been swept up in my feed and dms for past week! I resisted first million times but I had to see what’s it about. Foreword by the authors says that the authors had a blast writing this book and it shows! Omg it’s like a banter between best friends with pitcher of margaritas. I am sitting in the next table and couldn’t tear myself away from the fun and so order a pitcher of margaritas for myself 😂!!
This is fantasy fiction! Fantasy of what a writer’s life should be, fantasy of the kind of man every woman deserves. Brooke is a former high school counselor who writes a fantasy series and Netflix picks it up because of the cult following the series inspired! Chase is her new editor she has a crush on…what does she do? She writes a book based on characters based on her and chase and accidentally sends it off the chase! Shenanigans ensue!!
I LOVED this one. It was a good mixture of funny and sweet plus the romance was adorable. I loved how they fell in love and especially how they found their way back to each other. I’m a sucker for authors who write about authors and I’m totally convinced that pieces of the character are actually pieces of themselves!
🌀Synopsis
Brooke has a serious crush on her editor. Such a large crush that she writes a book about what she imagines their romance would be like. One drunken night she ends up sending it to him accidentally and thus begins the hilarious path of trying to tell him that the book is actually about him.
Coincidentally, at the same time she’s trying to get this book published her series is being turned into a Netflix series. She’s now going on tour to promote it while trying to meet the deadline for the book. This leads to her editor, Chase, driving her around in a motor home so they have time to work on the book.
Their adventures lead to a budding romance. Chase is Brooke’s safe place and biggest cheerleader. Things go awry when he finds out the true story behind the book though. Brooke is determined to save their relationship and find a way to help Chase understand.
I love books about authors, editors, bookstores and publishing, especially when there's romance or mystery involved, so when I read the description, I knew I'd enjoy this one. But my normal reading tastes lean toward clean romance, so the spice in this one was a bit much for me. That said, I found the characters to be delightful, and the banter was endearing!
It was easy to spot the crisis that was about to come as soon as it was set up, yet it was in keeping with the fast-paced, crazy decision-making that Brooke typically pursued. So, as much as I keep willing her NOT TO DO IT, it was a natural thing that she did anyway, despite my best advice to her.
If you like a spicy romance with a quirky heroine and a sexy hero, oh, and a trusty superhero sidekick, you'll love Accidental Attachment!
Thanks to Max Monroe and NetGalley for an advance review copy.
This was a great read! My first Max Monroe, and definitely won’t be the last. A slow burn between a writer and her editor after she accidentally submits the wrong manuscript. I’d rate it 3.5 🌶️…open door sex but nothing over the top.
The story concept was super clever. I love that the MC is written with a disability and a service dog (who seemed AMAZING!) I also loved that the MC shared her struggles with both the reader and Chase, the MMC. I loved that Brooke and Chase put themselves in a forced proximity trope (didn’t so much love the one-of-them-is-lying trope, but I never do 😂). And I loved that they were able to really get to know each other as a result.
What I didn’t love? Brooke’s internal monologue was long winded and neurotic. Like over the top. For the entire book. And the side story about finding love for her dog? Definitely took away from the overall read for me. Maybe dog people do things like this? Don’t know, but I’m a cat person and am not finding them love on Facebook. I also think the author could have done SO much more with Brooke’s (loudly) getting herself off in the shower…especially when it happened more than once. Maybe instead of leaving, Chase could have…literally done anything else? 😅
Overall, good slow burn. I’d recommend it for a fun, flirty, little bit dirty read!
I was so excited to get the arc for this audiobook. The premise is so cute, cover is great and I know I like the narrators from other projects.
Now that I’m finished, I’m surprised this book was picked up. At least a third of this book was superfluous to the story. Absolutely and unbelievably unnecessary to the degree that I didn’t know if I would stick it out. I was 33% through the book when I was finally kind of committed to it.
The FMC was quirky and conversational. She was relatable in the sense that I, too, find myself in wildly embarrassing situations all the time. There was just so much more of her internal monologue than necessary (ie the pee thing). The dog costumes were a whimsical element to a serious need, though entirely (again) adding to unnecessary bulk in the story. I would also have enjoyed more development from Chase. I didn’t get enough of his POV.
While the conflict of the story was exactly what you saw coming, her attempt to fix it was quite cute. Also, just because I needed to mention it- the surprise at her hometown book signing was heart warming, too.
Thanks for the arc NetGalley!
4.5/5⭐️
This was probably one of the funniest books I have read to date. I laughed nearly the entire time! Brooke was a so funny. She has a medical issue where her blood-pressure drops in high-stress situations. I loved that the authors made light of this situation. As someone with a chronic medical problem, it’s nice not to be so serious about it all of the time, to find the positive (sometimes funny) sides of it as well.
Chase is an absolute dream of a man. So respectful, considerate, and understanding. Everything you want a man to be, basically.
Chase is Brooke’s editor. This story all takes place when Brooke accidentally sends him a romance she wrote based on a fantasy relationship between the two of them. Things get hectic when he actually loves the draft of the book and wants to take it straight to publishing. The two of them must co-exist on a mobile home while they tour the country together, with this secret sizzling inside Brooke.
The audio was great. I feel like the narrators did an awesome job at capturing Brooke and Chase’s personalities.
I really enjoyed this book all the way through. I’ll definitely have to check out more books by Max & Monroe. Thank you Netgalley and Max Monroe for the alc of this book, in exchange for my honest feedback.
I listened to this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
I've read a few Max Monroe books and they've always been fun and full of chemistry.
I really loved this one too. Maybe because it was the first audiobook of theirs I had listened to? The narrators were perfect for it, and the storyline was so engaging.
I can tell this is going to be a hit with everyone who loves a good romance.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this book! It was funny, sweet, and engaging. I fell for Brooke Baker and Chase Dawson. Brooke is a writer. Recently in a slump, and supposedly writing a paranormal novel, she decides to write a steamy book starring herself and her crush. Chase is her editor and the ‘crush’. In a fabulous twist Brooke submits the wrong transcript to Chase. This leads to confusion, embarrassment, and some hilarious encounters between the two.
This was so much fun to listen to. The narration was excellent and I couldn’t stop listening. I highly recommend this book/audiobook.
Many thanks to @NetGalley and Max Monroe LLC for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook.
OBSESSED this book is a new author for me! this book def made me feel all the feels and take my time! I totally related to the main character and would recommend this book for anyone looking for something new
Thank you for the arc net galley.
I loved the premise of this book. I loved the plot. I loved this author. I LOVED the narrators.
The characters were fun and quirky, even relatable. However I feel like it was so lengthy it made it fall a bit flat. There were so many conversations with the dog that it became a lot. The miscommunication (not telling him about the book) wasn't bad at all and was very understandable. I just wish it was about 100 pages shorter and I think it could have been great. I gave it a 3.5 but rounding up on here.
I adored this book. I love a good romance about an author and their editor. And this one is great. It made me laugh and giggle, has some great steam, and emotion all in one. Characters are well developed and very likable. This is my 2nd book my Max Monroe and now realize I need to read more of his work!
Oh and the narrators for this audiobook are 2 of my favorites! Sooooo good! ❤️ Joe Arden is one of my all time favorite narrators and CJ Bloom is quite special. I love her most in rom coms. She has a great delivery!
I have the blurb below for my social media pages:
Blurb:
A successful writer accidentally sends her new (and super-dreamy) editor the wrong manuscript. Instead of the full-length paranormal novel she promised Longstrand Publishing, she sends the fan fiction she’s written about her crush…on him—including every detail of the hot, steamy “physical activity” she’s fantasized about happening between them.
And Chase Dawson may be the hottest man alive and a super-talented editor to boot, but he’s completely oblivious that he’s the star of the manuscript he just convinced his boss to green-light.
Brooke Baker has been through a lot in her thirty-one years of life.
A divorce.
A career change.
A move to New York City from “small-town” Ohio.
Not to mention, she has a bit of a medical condition that involves occasional fainting spells, mild embarrassment, and the companionship of her adorable service dog and canine sidekick, Benji.
But none of it has prepared her for this.
None of it prepared her for Chase Dawson.
Strong jaw, blue eyes, cut muscles, and a perfect swoop of superhero-worthy black hair, Chase’s features are those of a book boyfriend and then some. Obviously, Brooke would know—she literally filled an entire manuscript with it.
A manuscript no one was ever supposed to see.
Will she survive two months of revising and editing the sizzling romance she imagined with Chase in extremely close quarters with him? Or will the constant white lies and overwhelming attraction make her spontaneously combust?
Thank You to Max Monroe and Net Galley for this wonderful arc. This is my 100% honest review:
Thank you Net Galley for this audiobook arc! Unfortunately this one was just not for me. I was originally drawn to this book because I loved the premise - an author accidentally sending the wrong manuscript to her editor which was actually a fictional steamy romance about said editor. Add in the forced proximity by motor home trope and I thought this would be a sure fire win. But...Brooke drove me crazy - and I'm all for a quirky romance but she was way over the top neurotic. Chase on the other hand was written too perfect that I struggled to understand how the author could convince readers that Chase was falling in love with her. Brooke's obsession with dressing her German Shepherd in superhero costumes and trying to find the "soulmate" for her dog drove me nuts. The spice from the scenes in the manuscript were pretty good, but the actual spice between Chase and Brooke started to happen way too late in the book for me (~80%).
This was such an interesting plot. An author attaches the wrong book file and sends it to her editor that she has been crushing on. And that erroneously sent story just happens to be about a fictional love affair between she and him.
If you love quirky characters, you will love Brooke. She is so unique and her inner monologue is so funny. And Chase was just so dreamy. Really, the perfect man.
Be prepared. This is a very SLOW burn. I listened to this on audio and the narrators absolutely nailed the characters.
Max Monroe has done it again. I loved Accidental Attachment from the first page to the last. Brooke and Chase were perfect and had me laughing the whole time. While I don't carry maple syrup around like Brooke, I may be known to carry lemon juice. 🤣 Also, who else wants a superhero doggo?

🌹 This was my 1st book by Max Monroe And it certainly didn't disappoint. An author gets a little tipsy and accidentally sends the wrong book to her editor. Not only was it the wrong book, but the book was about him. About him as in a sexy, steamy love story about the two of them. When I read that little snippet I knew it was gonna be funny, but I totally underestimated the amount of witty humor this would have.
The FMC is quirky and sometimes says the most cringy things when she's nervous. Well hello...relatable 👋! The story also includes her service dog. I thought that was such a cool element that I haven't read much about. The MMC is smitten with her wit. They really mesh perfectly.
If you want a light and make you laugh out loud Rom Com snag this one up.
It's available now.
The audio was done fantastically. The female narrator portrayed the humor so well and I absolutely loved the male narrator's voice.
