AFTER THAT NIGHT is an intense, dark, and deeply affecting story. Slaughter has a true gift for showing her readers all sides of a situation. She delves into the grit and underbelly of society while still allowing hope and moments of happiness to permeate the narrative.

For the eleventh time, I have entered back into the world of Will Trent and the GBI. Each time, I learn more about the characters as they tackle their latest investigation. This time around, it was personal. They were dealing with Sara’s past and trying to find a link between her case and two others.

It must be said that there are topics and incidents within this book that will make a reader uncomfortable and possibly could trigger some. Any time a writer deals with sexual assault, I ask myself why am I reading it. Many times, I stop reading. It can be too much or not feel right. However, for the authors that give the victims justice and a voice, I continue as I did with this one. The way Slaughter deals with the crimes committed is done with brutal honesty as well as reverence. There is a respect for the victims that comes through. For this, I applaud the author.

AFTER THAT NIGHT was an all-consuming read for me. The way the author unraveled the mystery and allowed the investigation to progress kept me on the edge of my seat. Slaughter continues to prove why she is simply the best at merging suspense, heart, and witty quips thrown in on the side.

Thank you to NetGalley, Karin Slaughter and William Morrow for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.

This woman is just full of twisted plots and despicable characters but with all of that, you have the best series with the most interesting main characters. I’m always here for Slaughters writing and I look forward to the next Trent novel!

Somehow I had never read one of Karin Slaughter's Will Trent books. What a mistake! The characters are so appealing and the plot is beautifully constructed. Here, the thrills keep coming! I was worried for everyone and raced through to the end.

Look, it's Karin Slaughter, she's amazing she can do no wrong! I love her books, I will always love her books, and this is just another fantastically chilling, disturbing and amazing thriller!

Very highly recommended -- and it's obviously got a built-in base of fans with even more appearing after the TV show. Good! Karin Slaughter is a true treasure and I have never read a book from her where I wasn't surprised, and chilled in equal measure and After That Night is no exception

I love Karin Slaughter, and the Will Trent series has been a particular favorite. That said, I was disappointed in AFTER THAT NIGHT. The focus of the entire story was rape: The rape of Sara years back, women showing up in emergency rooms who have been raped and in some cases die. The gory details of sexual assault were repeated ad infinitum. And perhaps my biggest disappointment was the shoving of Will Trent to a corner of the story. He doesn't seem to act; we only see him reacting. He's a good character and deserves a better story than this.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book as an ARC.
I really enjoy Slaughter’s writing style, and I really enjoy the flawed and interesting characters in the Will Trent series. This one didn’t disappoint. While the crimes in the Trent novels are never easy to read about, the antagonists are so vile you can’t wait for them to get their comeuppance.
This one was particularly twisted and kept me guessing until the end.
But Karin Slaughter doesn’t just write a thrilling plot, she infuses her stories with facts about crime, or views on sad realities of our society that lets you know she’s researched her novels.
“Sara knew that the passage of time hadn’t changed that much. Everyone called it he said/she said, as if a woman’s word carried the same weight as a man’s.”
“Fewer than 1 perfect of rapes led to a felony conviction.”

I have read many of the Trent novels, but not in the right order. This one made me want to go back and reread them all in chronological order, so I could see the characters grow and their relationships develop. I especially like Faith.

A harrowing new crime dredges up Sarah Linton’s traumatic past in this latest Will Trent installment.

Dr. Sarah Linton battles to save a young woman who’s been brutally attacked and raped. A whispered promise to bring those responsible to justice means Sarah is tied up in a months-long trial — the accused, the son of a couple she knows all too well. Everything takes an unexpected turn however, when the culprit’s mother confesses to Sarah —

“What happened to you. What happened to Dani. It’s all connected.”

With no choice but to re-open old wounds, Sarah, together with her fiancé Will and his GBI partner, Faith, dig into a string of rapes that echo her past. Worse yet, it becomes clear it’s all far from over in the present.

As expected, Karin Slaughter delivers a propulsive, high-stakes thriller that is as horrifying as it is hopeful. It’s a new favorite in the series, underscored by the unshakable bonds between the characters we love, which buoy the weight of a narrative steeped in the violence and horror of its crimes. If you’re looking for the kind of thriller impossible to put down, look no further.

Georgia Bureau of Investigations detective Will Trent and Medical Examiner Sara Linton are back and I’m here for it. Slaughter’s Will Trent series has been a favorite of mine for years and it’s always fun to revisit their world see what these characters are up to. I love a good police procedural and this series always delivers. I’m finishing up this latest installment and of course, it’s another winner.

If you like a good detective series, give this one a try. It’s on all the top selling lists for a reason. 👍🏼 This is the 11th installment so you have plenty to read through if you want to start at book 1 and catch up..

I have been slowly reading through the Will Trent series, and when I got an ARC for the newest instalment, I dropped everything to read it. I do wish I would have read the other books in the series before jumping into this one but I just couldn’t resist.

This book is another chilling addition to the Will Trent series. It had me hooked, and I couldn’t put it down - there are so many twists and turns!

It is so well-written and decently paced! Slaughter definitely does not shy away from writing gruesome or brutal scenes which I quite enjoy. It’s definitely stomach-turning but in the best way, making it feel real.

I would definitely recommend reading through the entirety of the series before you read the newest instalment in order to get background on the characters and other storylines that continue on in this book.

Once again Karin Slaughter delivers a well executed, page turning thriller. Be forewarned, there are some disturbing elements but it's what makes the story. Even though this is an installment in the Will Trent series, your could read this without having read earlier installments.

This is book 11 of the Will Trent mystery/thriller series and it was great. This is the first book I've read in the series, but having watched the tv series, I didn't feel lost reading it. Plus, there is enough backstory in the book to help the reader understand what is going on. The book can be read as a stand-alone mystery.

This mystery focuses on Dr. Sara Linton, who is about to start a prestigious residency and goes out to celebrate with her boyfriend and fellow residents. She then goes to work and is brutally raped. The attack changes the course of her life. Fifteen years later she treats a young woman in the ER who has been brutally beaten and raped. The girl dies and Sara vows to see her attacker punished. The accused is the son of two doctors that Sara went to medical school with. After she testifies at the trial, the mother of the accused confronts her and utters something that sends Sara reeling. Apparently her attack and the young woman's attack are connected. This starts an off-the-books investigation by Will and Faith into both attacks.

This book was nuts. It's told in two timelines - the present, and fifteen years ago just before and after Sara's attack. I really enjoyed how the author wove the timelines together. This is hard to do and not every author can pull it off, but it's done well here. The main characters, Will, Faith, Amanda, and Sara are well developed and have a great, but complicated, relationship. I love that we see more of Faith's son Jeremy, who gets first-hand experience of the dangers and seedy side of his mom's job. The suspects the team investigate are despicable characters with little-to-no redeeming qualities. All of them are wealthy and supposedly up-standing citizens, but the dark secrets they keep are nauseating. The book has plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing until the end. If you like action-packed mysteries, pick this book up today.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and William Morrow. All opinions are my own.

The 11th In Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent Series was just WOW.

Trigger Warnings all over the place for sexual assault and graphic descriptions. But, I feel like the topic was handled with care and consideration for being a murder/rape investigation focused novel.

Definitely stomach churning and not for the feint of heart.

Other aspects, like Will and Sara being sickly sweet in love I think were written to bring a little silver lining to this very dark cloud of a novel but instead stick out like a sore thumb. Same with Faith being a helicopter Mama.

I love the Will Trent series, so my expectations going into this installment were high. That being said, it was good, but not one of my favorites. I found that it dragged some in the middle and there wasn't as much growth with the main characters and their relationships as some of her other books. It was more focused on the unraveling and solving of the crime plot.

If you are a fan, go in with reasonable expectations. It is well written and the plot is interesting.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC.

I felt a little lost reading this book. This isn't my first book in the Will Trent series either. I felt hard staying focused and I was VERY intrigued with the killer's POV but I will have to come back to finish this one up. It just felt confusing and there was some romance going on between the main characters but it was confusing for me not knowing their pasts, etc. I think I need to read more books in the series before coming back to this one

After That Night by @karinslaughterauthor
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I’m super late on posting this but thank you @netgalley for the arc of this book

I was so excited when I got approved for this I couldn’t wait to read it so I read this out of order but it didn’t really ruin anything for me.

Huge trigger warning for sexual assault throughout the entire book

Will Trent and Dr. Sara Linton are back in this book on a whole new case. Fifteen years ago Sara was sexually assaulted on a night that was supposed to be a celebration. Since then she has worked past this as best she can and thrown herself into her work. She is at the hospital working one night when Dani Cooper arrives in bad shape, and Sara is the only one who heard her say she was sexually assaulted. Sara vowed to find the truth of what happened to Dani that night and as time goes on she learns that her attack from all those years ago may be linked to this Dani’s. What happened on these nights and will the truth be uncovered?

Anything Karin writes is pure gold, she can do no wrong in my book. I loved how Sara’s story was told and we learned more about her in this book. While reading you start to get an idea of what is happening but I honestly didn’t see the ending coming and it was so good. I highly recommend to anyone who loves thrillers.

I have loved reading Will Trent’s journey and especially loved his journey with Sara Linton. Sara is my favorite character. She’s smart, clever, compassionate, and an all around badass. Karin Slaughter wrote Sara to perfection. After That Night touches on a horrific incident from Sara’s as well as present day crimes very similar to hers. This story isn’t my favorite of Slaughter’s but it was still good. Overall, I would have liked to have read more of the love story with Will and Sara but I realize the story wouldn’t be nearly as interesting.

I love the characters. I have been reading Linton/Trent books for years. I like how Sara has a large part of the storyline and I love the relationships between the characters. I also love hating the bad guys. I can’t wait for the next one and am so glad I got the opportunity to listen to this one early. It was a strong 4.5 so I rounded up.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the DRC.

This book kept me hooked the whole time. Karin's books have been hit and miss with me since Pretty Girls, but her last two were absolute fire! I love her writing style. Many women are being raped and killed. Sarah's rape from long ago is somehow connected, so she, Will, Faith, and the whole crew are on a mission to find out how.

Thank you so much to #Netgalley #Karinslaughter and the publishers for this advanced copy for an honest review.

After That Night is the 11th installment in the Will Trent series, and it just reaffirms just why Karin is my favorite author of all time.

The story follows Will, Sara, and Faith as they essentially go rogue to try and solve a case that has direct ties to what happened to Sara while she was working at Grady.

This is probably Karin’s least graphically violent book, but HOLY SHIT it might be her heaviest yet!! Due to the nature of the main plot/investigation, there is a near constant focus on rape/sexual assault. CONSTANT. So keep that in mind if you decide to dive in.

As always I do recommend reading her books in order to get all the context/past characterizations/character development, but this book is probably the least spoiler-y of them all, and the things that are brought up are things you’ll learn pretty early on in the series.

Thank god Karin is so good at writing banter between the characters, because if not this would probably be the most depressing book ever written 😅 but, thankfully there are plenty of little quips, bickering, and witty banter sprinkled throughout. There were also a few bits that made me tear up because they were just so freaking sweet. These characters mean everything to me and I hope it never ends.

No one does it like Karin. I will never stop screaming her praises from the rooftops.

Thank you netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
