GBI Will Trent and medical examiner Sara Linton together again try to solve the fifteen years rapes involving a club of high profile doctors. The author weaves a story of suspense tale unravels. Does Sara's own rape fifteen years ago have anything to do with the current situation? Readers will learn the truth in this intriguing novel. One star off for the excessive use if the 'f' word.

✨BOOK REVIEW✨

After That Night by @karinslaughterauthor

Yes, I know rocket scientists are insanely smart, but are they as smart as Karin?! Debatable. How does one cleverly craft such a detailed crime fiction story??? I’m just flabbergasted every time and especially with this one.

After That Night is the eleventh book in the Will Trent series and I was fortunate enough to be sent an early copy (shout out to @harpercollins @williammorrowbooks !!!). This was one of my most anticipated reads of the summer and not only did it not disappoint, it exceeded all expectations.

I highly recommend not starting with this book if you haven’t read the others. I don’t think you would understand and fully appreciate the characters’ feelings without having some background. It’s heavily based on Sara’s past and the attack that she experienced years ago.

Side note: Will and Sarah forever and ever and ever. They just look at each other and I get goosebumps. 🥹🥹🥹🥹Idk how she does it.

I don’t know of any books that are as well-researched as Karin’s crime novels. They are dark and full of trauma, with no details spared.

Faith will forever be one of my favorite characters and I think she makes me LOL more than any other. If you haven’t started this series, start now!!! The books get better and better as you go and I am obsessed. Excuse my completely disorganized word vomit but I am just in love with this series and these characters.

It’s no secret that I’m a Karin Slaughter fan, and I have a soft spot for the Will Trent series. In the last book in this series (The Silent Wife), there was a lot of heavy material that came up, and it had a big impact on the characters in the story as well as the readers.

Slaughter continues on in that vein, always finding ways to keep her stories fresh and intriguing, while also following the lives of the main characters outside of their horrific cases. When we left off in the last book, Will and Sara are engaged and getting ready for a wedding, and Faith is dealing with one kid in college while her toddler basically rules her life, and she’s actively trying to navigate healthy relationships.

Faith’s trauma response to their previous case has landed her on desk duty while Will is off doing other grunt work. Sara is working at the ER when she treats a rape victim who is savagely beaten. The woman, Dani, dies during surgery, but Sara made a promise to Dani that she would do everything she can to find the man who did this to her.

Over the course of the investigation and subsequent trial, Sara is informed by someone close to the case that her own previous rape is linked to Dani’s.

This kicks off an effort by Faith, Will, and Sara to investigate, although they’re forced to do so without the vast resources of the GBI or even police departments, since they’re doing this on their own. But what they discover will rock Sara’s world and shake her understanding of a past that she thought she had put behind her.

As always, Slaughter’s writing is perfect for this genre—concise and descriptive, providing all the basic information needed to put things together. While I normally can’t put things together on my own until Slaughter and the characters spell everything out for me, I was able to figure it out in advance this time, although not fully.

Overall, this wasn’t Slaughter’s strongest mystery, but she made up for it with the character development. After all this time, you’d think we know the characters inside and out, but we get to see how Will and Sara’s relationships adjusts to manage the increased stress on it, and we also get to see Faith actively working to change her relationship patterns. There’s humor, emotional situations, and parts that are horrifying to read about. But ultimately it’s a book that I couldn’t stop reading and a series that I’ll be eagerly anticipating the next book in.

After reading Karin Slaughter's 'Girl, Forgotten' - I was really hoping this one would be better in terms of the mystery - AND IT WAS!!! So many moving pieces and parts of this story in the seedy world of the quietly rich. I had fun figuring out who the real villain(s) were.

THOUGHTS:
- Karin Slaughter has a talent for writing books that point in the direction of the person(s) committing the crime, but as in real life - these people are hard to catch. You need evidence. No going in guns half-cocked. These cases are so horrendous that people committing the crimes must be locked away tightly. You read every line because you, the reader, become invested in finding those small clues that will lock them away forever. (Because, as we all know - that's how people get caught.. they get lazy and leave something small unattended!)

- Something else Slaughter does well is the creation of the quietly insane unlikeable female. She's unlikeable. She's usually not integral to figuring out the crime until seen in a certain light - and I think that's a hard character to right. They're sociopaths hidden in plain sight. Men are often the ones we look at as committing horrible crimes - but women? We typically tend to put them in the victim box, so when they're the perpetrators, puppeteers, or masterminds behind violent crimes? Shocking.

NOTES:
- CWs: Graphic descriptions of the aftermath of s3xual assault

**Thank you to William Morrow & NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. I received this book for free, but all thoughts are my own. – SLR 🖤

Another Karin Slaughter that I could not put down!!!

I love the Will Trent series and this book definitely does not disappoint!!! Tough read at times but well worth the time to read this one!

There are a number of trigger warnings in this one so I'd definitely check those out before you read!

While this is technically part of the Will Trent series you can definitely read this one as a stand-alone. I had never read the others in the book series and had no issues following along. So if you enjoy a dark mystery and don't have many triggers (or none like me) then I'd highly recommend this one!

I’ve been a big time fan of this series since book one Triptych.
And ever since then I can’t get enough of them.

After That Night is book 11 in A Will Trent Thriller by Karin Slaughter and it is one riveting mystery.
Oh my gosh….. Slaughter is on her game! And I couldn’t have been happier with everything this story provided. She is an exceptional writer.
The action is high, the case a mystery, the plot twisted and then twisted again, the story shocking & riveting, and the characters are phenomenal as always.
I love Will, he is a smart detective and him and Sara work amazingly well together.
A superb and timely thriller full of devious twists, disturbing secrets, and shocking surprises you won’t see coming.
Relentlessly suspenseful and furiously paced, imperfect characters who leap from the page, After That Night is a searing novel.
A twisty police procedural and ingenious psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Thank you to NetGalley, William Morrow Books and the author for the ARC of this book to read and review!

I started reading this one, not realizing that it is the 11th book in a series!! Eek! My bookish OCD started to panic a bit! I was a little worried that I would be totally lost jumping into it this late in the game. BUT NOPE!! This book is so well done that I felt like I already knew the characters and had a wonderful sense of their chemistry as a crime fighting team. Because this one goes deeper into Sara's backstory as part of the actual plot and crime to be solved, I never experienced "outta-the-loop" vibes and felt this last installment in the series held its own as a strong stand alone!

The story itself was masterfully suspenseful and kept me guessing all the way through. I will definitely be going back and catching the first 10 books in this series ... I can already see that I will be fans of Will, Sara and Faith and am anxious to hear more of their story from the beginning!

Sara Linton was a victim of sexual assault fifteen years ago at the hospital she worked at. While working at the ER one night, a young girl named Dani crashes a car trying to get care after being the victim of a violent attack herself. She tells Sara she has been raped before she dies. Sara is testifying for Dani in front of a group of people from her past that have been implicated in the case. One of the family members of the accused tells Sara that her and Dani’s cases are connected, leaving Sara to re-traumatize herself as she tries to figure out how.

I waited a long time for this instalment in the Trent series, and man am I sad it is over already! I liked it a lot more when I could binge them! I seriously cannot get enough of Sara and Will, but that is nothing new. I do wish there was a clearer portion of the book that showed them reconciling. This book talks about sexual assault many many times so please be aware before reading. I found the pacing a bit slow but the characters Slaughter created were intriguing (as per usual). I liked Faith and Jeremy’s character development a lot. The creepiness of the stalking and slow unfurling of all of the connections was masterful. Thanks to @netgalley and @williammorrow for my review copy. You can find me moping in a corner until I get more of Will and Sara.

My first Will Trent novel and completely loved it. This is one of the few books I have read lately that did not, in my opinion, rush the ending and wrap it up with a neat bow. Definitely worth a read.

I tried to love this - I really did but I couldn’t get into it. It had so many good reviews. I know it’s part of a bigger series but it’s standalone. I got about 3/4 through and DNF. I couldn’t get into the book or the writing style. I have read this author before and loved though.

In 2021, I wrote a five-star review for Karin Slaughter’s standalone novel False Witness, featuring Harleigh (“Leigh”) Collier. So I was excited to receive a copy of Slaughter’s After That Night, which is #11 in the Will Trent series. But then I remembered The Last Widow from 2019, which was #9 in the series, and went back to look at my thoughts about it. As I noted then “... I am a sucker for the psychological-thriller-woman-in-danger genre, so it sounded like a good fit for me..” Alas, I loved the first half then it all fell apart for me, and it ended up being a two-star review. Yikes, I’m a notoriously generous star-giver, so either it was not great or I was totally depressed

I couldn’t actually remember why my aversion was so strong, so I went back and looked at my review for The Last Widow, and remembered that “…up til about halfway into the book, it was gripping. It was reflective of the current situation in the U.S., with validation for hatred and racism coming from the top down. I REALLY enjoyed the first half of the book, and was right there with the threat coming from the newly validated white supremacists. Maybe I should have just stopped there, secure in my certainty that Will would rescue Sara, the horrific event planned by the group would be stopped, and book #10 could take us to our next chapter in the adventures of Will and Sara. But it all went to hell when the leader turned into almost a cartoon figure, and the plot resolution happened as it did. By that time, I almost didn’t care if Sara got out or Will was a hero. It was just too over the top for me.”

Well, despite that, I loved the sound of After That Night, and went into it hoping for a grabber that would whisk me away from news and politics and let me sink into a good story with characters I cared about. It happened! In this latest entry in the Will Trent series, Sara is on duty at the hospital when a rape victim is brought in. Trying to save her, Sara is shocked to hear the few sentences the victim is able to whisper to her before she passes. Then, it turns out that the victim’s case may be related to the attack suffered by Sara over a decade ago. So — bring on Will Trent of the GBI (Georgia Bureau of Investigation)to head up the investigation! It’s full of twists and lots of character development. TBH, I haven’t read enough in this series to have strong opinions about the characters, other than to say they seem like REAL people, with interesting lives and I actually cared about what happened to them.

I look forward to more books with Will and Sara. With gratitude for the copy I received from William Morrow and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review, this one is a solid four stars.

Thank you NetGalley, William Morrow, and Karin Slaughter for the advanced copy of After That Night in exchange for my honest review.

First, I feel it's worth mentioning that there is *heavy* mention of sexual assault in this book. Please proceed with caution if that's a tough subject for you.

Karin Slaughter has done it again my friends! I've missed Will and Sara so much, the Will Trent series is hands down my favorite of all time. I don't know how she continues to publish banger after banger, but I'm really thankful for it.

The investigative team of Faith, Sara, and Will just WORKS, there really is no better way to explain it. The characters compliment each other so well. And with this being book 11 (I think?) in the series, the background stories of our main characters have been so well-developed that it feels like revisiting old friends when diving back into their world.

Suffice to say I freaking loved this one, don't miss it on US bookshelves August 22!

I can’t believe I’ve read eleven Will Trent books! This is my favorite series and I will forever be a Karin Slaughter fan! After That Night flashes back to fifteen years before— when Sara experiences a harrowing sexual assault. In modern times, Sara is testifying in a civil trial of an alleged rapist when she learns their is connections between the two cases!

Like all of Slaughter’s books, this is a dark and sometimes heartbreaking tale of a horrific crime. The development of Karin’s characters over this long series is just amazing and I love learning more about Sara, Will, and Faith with every new book!

Word’s I’d use to describe this book- chilling, well thought out, perfectly paced, graphic, raw and gritty!

Five stars! Please give this series a try… I recommend starting with the Grant County books and then moving to Will Trent!

Thank you to @Netgalley & Harper Collins for an ARC of After That Night in return for my honest review. After That Night is scheduled for release in the US on August 22, 2023.

A huge huge thanks to Wiliam Morrow for an advanced copy of After That Night which is book 11 in the Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter.

I Love this series and After That Night was incredible! Like all Karin Slaughter, these aren't easy reads and this book is centered around the brutal rapes of young women in Atlanta. When something said brings Dr. Sara Linton back to the night that she was raped when she was a resident and it makes her think that despite the fifteen years something is connected.

Will and Sara are so cute in the book. I love their relationship and some of the funny scenes with Amanda discussing their upcoming wedding. I liked how Will and Faith went behind Amanda's back to continue working on this case and the kitchen crime board at Faith's house.

Easily a 5 star book. If you haven't read any Will Trent, do yourself a favor and read the Grant County series and then Will Trent and you'll understand why her books are so amazing even if they are disturbing and can be so hard to read.

Thank you, Netgalley, the author, William Morrow, and Blackstone Publishing Audiobooks for the gifted e-book and audiobook! ❤️ #gifted. My review is comprised of my honest thoughts.

Read this book if you like: Procedural cop thrillers, fast-paced reads

Yessss. This was everything I hoped it would be. The characters were amazing, per usual. Sara was a big part of this one, and I loved that. The twists were shocking. I listened to this and read it. I highly recommend this as either! The audiobook was especially well done.

What a way to start a book!

This took me a while to read, but only because I was distracted. Every time I got a chance to read it, it sucked me in. I love Will, Faith, Sara, Jeremy, Amanda...I love them all. Karin Slaughter has this ability to make main and supporting characters that are so complicated, but so easy to fall in love with.

And that twist at the end?! I never would have called it! This book was so good!

After That Night is another in the GBI Special Agent Will Trent series of crime-solving novels, I have read many of Karin Slaughter’s books, but this one went too far for me. We are talking about a lot of sexual abuse, which is full of triggers. The detailed descriptions of these crimes were loathsome. I’m no longer engaging in this kind of thriller, with fictional criminal behavior becoming too revolting. #thriller #mystery #crime #fiction #adult #murdermystery #rape @netgalley @harpercollins #AfterThatNight

Karin Slaughter is a creative genius. A master of police procedurals. She crafts a multi layered story, one that is complex yet easy to follow.

Her characters are fantastic and After That Night is no different. She is at the top of her game
