Book Review: Goodnight Santa by Michelle Robinson – A Working Mom's Take

As a working mom with a toddler, bedtime stories are a special part of our routine, and Goodnight Santa by Michelle Robinson has quickly become a favorite. This sweet, festive book follows the familiar rhythm of Goodnight Moon, but with a magical Christmas twist, as children say goodnight to Santa, his reindeer, and all the holiday preparations.

The illustrations are bright and enchanting, capturing my little one's attention while the soothing, repetitive text makes it perfect for winding down. It’s simple, cozy, and full of holiday cheer—ideal for getting into the Christmas spirit!

Final Thoughts: Goodnight Santa is a wonderful bedtime read for little ones, filled with warmth and holiday magic. Perfect for moms looking to add a touch of Christmas joy to their nightly routine!

A fun Christmas bedtime story that catches the essence of Christmas for children. The things the children say good night to are adorable. My son enjoyed this book quite a bit and we have read it multiple times.

Practically as good as "Goodnight Princess", this didn't quite seem to have the ultimate zing to the art – and perhaps it loses some by being pretty similarly structured. It's still a very healthy score for this rhymed lullaby, designed to have all the sleeping kiddies dreaming of Santa's mission and what it will bring them. It's all perfectly cute, warm-hearted and reassuring.

Goodnight Santa is a cute bedtime story, one that would be wonderful to read as Christmas approaches and especially on Christmas Eve. It opens with a group sledding and big sister telling her little brother that it is Christmas Eve and time to go home and go to bed. There are a series of goodnights to various Christmas things like choirs, stockings and even mistltoe. Then it switches to Santa's workshop as Santa and the elves load the sled, fly through the air and fill the stockings before saying Goodnight. This is a cute book for toddlers sharing Christmas, things that have to do with Christmas and of course Santa. My 6 year old granddaughter read this one to her brother and me. The illustrations are cute and add much to the story. We read it a couple of times before he was ready to lay down and go to sleep. I will keep this on the shelves to read closer to Christmas.

Rhyming text, which will immediately encourage participation from the younger audience and bright pictures which help tell story, will make this a seasonal story time favorite. I wish the illustrations portrayed more diversity.

Thank you NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Kids, Sourcebooks Wonderland for accepting my request to read and review Goodnight Santa.

Loved this. I was halfway through and immediately was in love. The illustrations are perfect. However, the story itself stands alone, the pictures make it pretty, and 100% love for me.

The story is about saying goodnight before Santa comes. It is darling.

I would gift this both for reading and housewarming. In addition, I would use as a coffee/end table book.

Two children say goodnight before Christmas can begin and find themselves magically with Santa in his sled, in his factory with the elves all within this sweet rhyming picture book.

Really adorable story, I loved that it was really reparative, it was a very relaxing story. It’s a perfect just before sleep on Christmas Eve read. I loved that the children went round saying goodnight to everything, and so did Santa it was really sweet.

The hand drawn illustrations were so beautiful to look at, so many beautiful images throughout the story. They reminded me a lot of those illustrations in the Christmas picture books I grew up with, they were really sweet and added to the magic of the story.

This is a great Christmas picture book that younger children especially will enjoy and be able to follow and learn very quickly. It’s so sweet and will get them all magical before Santa shows up that very same night.

This is a cute take on the classic Goodnight Moon but this time we say Goodnight to Santa. We see Santa start his Christmas journey at the North Pole and continue with him as he travels the world leaving presents to all the good little girls and boys with his trusty reindeer. This is a cute new tradition to add to your holiday night time readings.

I read this book with my daughter and thought it was super cute and the pictures were very eye catching. The way the words flowed was beautiful almost like a song. There was repetitive words so little children could read along. It is geared towards babies/toddlers and I think they would very much enjoy the book. I’m adding it to my Christmas shopping list for all the little people on my list.

Dani’s Review (age 8) it was too kiddish for me but my sister would love it! I liked the way the words flowed. Rating: 👍🏻/🫲🏻

A cute goodnight book for Christmas Eve! It says goodnight to Santa, reindeers, more, while preparing children to be excited for the next morning. I love the illustrations here. The reindeer were my favorite and I think children would love how cute they are!
