Chloe Pierre did a phenomenal job in writing "Take Care". It felt like she was talking with you and not at you. The various wellness, powerful and inspirational quotes, recommendations, and references from Black were astonishing.
I can't wait to share this with friends.
Take Care by Chloe Pierre is real self care for Black women. Chloe is the founder of thy.self which launched in October 2018 as a way to challenge the norms of what wellness looks like and diversify the wellness industry by making self-care more inclusive and more approachable. Thy.self has evolved into a healing community of those who genuinely want to connect while actualizing self-care in their daily lives.
I truly enjoyed reading Take Care and I could feel the love in these pages. Chloe has a writing style that feels like she is speaking directly to you and her way of honoring the ancestors while she speaks life into her reader is an impactful approach that deeply resonated with me. I loved all the quotes, book recommendations, and references from Black women made throughout the text.
Chloe wants readers to consider her book to be a guide to assist Black women from all walks of life on our personal wellness journey. I love how she also included self-advocacy, financial wellness, environmental wellness, spiritual wellness, vocational wellness, intellectual wellness, and Black wellness beside the more prominent focus others tend to place on emotional wellness and physical wellness. It's a powerful reminder to consider all facets of our own wellness and pay attention to areas we may forget to think intentionally about.
While Chloe is Black and British she does a great job of sharing statistics and data from the US as well. My favorite aspect of the book is the medical wellness portion where she provides Black women with a helpful framework to learn to speak up for ourselves medically. Many of us struggle with this and have not had this modeled for us by our foremothers so I am appreciative of her generosity in writing this out. This book is a love offering and I cannot wait to add it to my therapist bookshelf! #Literapy_NYC
