Dimpna has returned to Dingle and is running her family’s veterinarian practice as her father battles dementia. With a focus on tending for wounded and abused animals, Dimpna cannot tolerate that someone out there is torturing and killing animals and humans alike. This is something both the Garda and Dimpna cannot tolerate and they are on the case. Who is committing such violent and horrible acts and can they stop them before any more living creatures meet the same fate?

The second book in this new series from O’Connor has me hooked! I enjoyed the first one and the second one sealed the deal as well. She brings her characters to life and each book is hard to put down as you’re reading it.

Beautiful Dingle, Ireland is harboring at least one killer, and veterinarian Dimpna Wilde, recently returned to take over the family practice finds herself drawn deeper and deeper into the investigation. Everyone has come to view a meteor shower, an elderly man is killed in a hit and run, and a caravan of four young people has parked near a popular hiking trail and are causing, according to some, excessive noise and disruption. The gardas need to rely on Dimpna’s local knowledge to help sort through the many suspects and possible motives may be putting her in the killer’s spotlight.
I enjoyed this second book I the series as much as I had enjoyed the first, I think I would have missed a lot of the important back stories had I not read them in order. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for an advance copy, I would highly recommend the series to anyone who loves stories set in rural Ireland, with a smart, independent veterinarian with family issues, and an interesting cast of characters who all pull together to help one another keep their home safe.

How did I miss the first in this series by an author I value?
The vet's father (also a vet) is battling dementia. The Garda detective just watched his mother die of NMD. There is a sick person in the area who is mutilating animals and murdering people. A very good procedural with realistic characters and a twisty plot. Unputdownable!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

This is O'Connor's second book about the Irish vet, Dimpna, and her entanglement in a mystery.
A group of young folks who are selling things to support themselves really aggravate several village folks, including an older gentleman who winds up dead. His biggest complaint was about a woman named Brigid.

Brigid claims that someone is hunting for a lucky rabbits foot - and she winds up dead with just that hung around her neck.

In the meantime there are shooting star displays and people plan watch parties.

Could these events be tied together? The mystery needs to be solved before someone else ends up dead.

The book is set in a small village in County Kerry. It is delightfully described and virtually comes to life.

I thoroughly recommend this book
