FURY AND FURRY (MAKE ME A VIGILANTE #1)| A.C HARRAH
⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is the first book in a series of short stories.
It is inspired by magical girl manga, which I haven't read so I did go not knowing how the inspiration would effect the plot line.
This book had action, mystery and plot line which would make you read the next book in the series.
For me, the storyline was very interesting. We did get to see a hint of the nature of the different characters in the book and how the story might take turns.
The worldbuilding made me intruiged as most characters have different magical abilities.

I tried. I really did. Monster/non-human romances are seriously my jam right now. But this read like someone started in the middle of some fanfiction expecting all of its readers to know what was already going on, and the language felt like it was suggesting the fanfic writer was still a tween. It needed fleshing out, refinement, and some serious details added to make this feel like more than just the bottom of the Wattpad barrel.

I am generally a fan of monster/ paranormal romances, but this one was just meh. It didn't really stick out to me.

Meh. I should probably stop reading all the monster/furry romances. This one just didn't do it for me and I wanted so much more out of it.

Cute start to a new series in a new world. Can’t wait to read more! I loved the character interactions and can’t wait to learn more about this world and see how the characters develop.

this story was a whirlwind, it started off at a point in this world and in these characters lives that felt very much as if I was thrown into the deep end of a pool. that being said I feel that the story progresses in a way with the writing that explains the small details of this world in order to understand the context of some of what is going on. the main situation going on in this story is very fast paced and took some time for me to realize what was happening but when I did it immediately made me love the story and the world so much. I absolutely loved that we get all the characters inner thoughts which drew me into the story more. also, the way that one of the characters thinks about another is so cute and made me love this character so much. there is a hint of the way the magic works in this world and is so fascinating to me. the fact that this is book 1 makes me excited for possible continuation of this story and with these characters. it's a great start to something that I think personally I would love. it was very cute, and I enjoyed my read of it. it very much felt to me that it should be a manga or a graphic novel, I would have absolutely loved this as a graphic novel. overall, very few criticisms I very much appreciated my read of this book and look forward to more of this world and these characters,

I liked each of the characters and loved how they each brought a unique personality to the story! Definitely a different type of story than what I'm used to reading, and I was excited to see how Noelle's matchmaking went and how well Mamoru and Noelle work together.

Very quick and easy read! Unfortunately, it felt a little too quick. Once I was getting into the story and rooting for the characters, I felt like it was over. I was really excited to see what happened next and what the characters would do, but unfortunately I don't know if I had gotten enough of a backstory and love for the characters to hunt down the next book. I would've loved to keep reading, and I know it's supposed to be short (like a manga), but it just didn't feel like there was enough time to read through and enjoy everything and the characters. Would have loved to delve more into the backstory of the characters and had more action and time to digest what was going on (one minute, Noelle was matchmaking and the next she was saving the day – was too quick of a change for me).

I can see the different fandoms the author loves weaving their way through the story and love that! Keep going!

Thank you NetGalley for sending me an ARC of this to review.

This starts straight in the story with no background to the characters. It read and felt like an episode of a high school cartoon/anime, which I think was what the author was going for. Extremely fast paced which is necessary for such a short book but it would have been nice to have a little bit of character development first.

Fury and Furry is a light, fun, quirky and cheesy novella.

It was a nice palate cleanser from the heavy books I’ve been reading lately.

Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this book to read early in exchange for an honest review.

The summary of this short story sounded quirky and fun, you can tell there is a love for the magical girl genre and the tropes that come with it. I would love to give this more than 3 stars as it has potential, but there is a lot to be improved upon.
It started off good, our main character being a matchmaking witch with tarot cards, charms and potions creating an interesting foundation on which to build upon. Sadly however the writing very quickly became choppy and awkward, affecting the pacing and causing some confusion as to what was going on. Some of the dialogue felt unnatural and forced.
When they said this was a short story, they really meant short, as in way too short. The characters have no time to gain any depth past basic characteristics, which is sad as it might put people off reading further into the series.
I want to reiterate that this really does have potential, and that there is two ways in which it could vastly improve. The first would be to at least double the length of the story and get someone to really polish off the writing for them to improve the flow and give it some more depth. The other would be to scrap releasing this as a purely written medium and instead use it as a script in which to create a visual medium such as a comic, graphic novel or even in the style of a manga.
And finally I think the author should see this less as an entire "season" and more of the first episode of the season. It's labeled as a slow burn, make it into a multi episode season to build the foundation for the story as a whole, even if each season focuses on different characters that exist in this universe.
A.C. Harrah if you see this I wish you the best on this narrative journey you're embarking on and hope you don't get discouraged from continuing to bring your creations to the public eye

"Fury and Furry" is a captivating and action-packed urban fantasy novel that weaves together elements of witchcraft, werewolves, and the power of friendship. With its intriguing premise, dynamic characters, and fast-paced plot, this book takes readers on a thrilling journey filled with supernatural forces, danger, and the strength of unexpected alliances.

The story revolves around Noelle Gardner, a teenage witch and amateur matchmaker, who finds herself caught in the middle of a messy breakup between her friend Aksel and his ex-girlfriend Celeste. When Noelle attempts to help Aksel through his heartbreak with a simple tarot reading, things take a dangerous turn as he becomes possessed by a mindless malice, resulting in supernatural strength and an intensified obsession with Celeste. Determined to save her friend and protect Celeste from harm, Noelle disguises herself as a man using her magic pendant and embarks on a mission to exorcise the malice from Aksel.

Enter Mamoru Knight, a werewolf and amateur photographer, who becomes entangled in the chaos when he witnesses Aksel's possession while picking up Celeste from school. Saved from an attack by the possessed Aksel by a mysterious and handsome "Hero," Mamoru joins forces with this enigmatic figure to rescue Aksel and Celeste. Together, they must rely on their combined powers and resourcefulness to overcome the supernatural threat and save their friends.

The strength of "Fury and Furry" lies in its well-crafted characters and their compelling dynamics. Noelle is a relatable protagonist, balancing her witchcraft abilities, her desire to help others, and her own vulnerabilities. Mamoru brings an intriguing element to the story with his werewolf nature and his talent for photography, adding depth and complexity to his character. The interactions and growing camaraderie between Noelle and Mamoru are engaging and provide moments of humor and genuine connection amidst the high-stakes action.

The author skillfully balances the supernatural elements with the human emotions and struggles of the characters. The mindless malice serves as a formidable antagonist, escalating the danger and creating intense moments of suspense. The plot moves at a brisk pace, with each chapter building upon the previous one, leading to a climactic showdown. The action sequences are well-written and keep readers on the edge of their seats, eagerly turning pages to uncover the outcome.

Furthermore, "Fury and Furry" explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and the power of teamwork. As Noelle and Mamoru unite their strengths and face the supernatural threat together, they demonstrate the importance of relying on others and embracing their own unique abilities. The book emphasizes the idea that unity and support can overcome even the most daunting challenges.

Overall, "Fury and Furry" is a thrilling and immersive urban fantasy novel that will captivate fans of supernatural adventures and tales of friendship. With its compelling characters, gripping storyline, and a touch of romance, this book offers a captivating escape into a world where magic and danger collide. Readers will find themselves fully invested in the characters' journey, rooting for their success, and eagerly anticipating future installments in this enchanting series.

44 pages is waaaay toooo short for furry lovers.
The pacing is problematic and the story lacks fleshed-out characters.
This book is a quick and fun read for fans of magical girl stories, but it requires more content to build the worldview.

Fury and Furry shows promise.

From the things i've read and watched, this reminds me of the show Miraculous Ladybug but done in a more elevated way. Since it was so short, I didn't have a lot of ground to judge this book on. It starts off a bit confusing, but we acclimate somewhat well enough. It's a hard line to tow between explaining too much and leaving your readers absolutely confused. This book handles that line well enough, leaning towards the confusion side. I can understand that this is supposed to set up a larger story and characters, but as it is ... I felt like it was unfulfilling.

I do however look forward to seeing what can happen in a more long form context.

I loved this short story!!! It reminds me of manga, it is a nice tribute and an original and well-written one. Made me wish for more and then I saw there's a part 2, which I'm going to read right now!!! I still wish it were a full length book though 😁
I thank NetGalley, the author and the publisher for this opportunity, I enjoyed it very much 😊

The description sounded interesting as someone who is a fan of Sailor Moon, however the short length made it a difficult to get into because of the pacing. It was a cute story, just some of it needed to be more fleshed out!

This book was not for me! I struggled with the pacing. Because the book was so short, the plot was difficult to digest. I appreciate the ambition of the book, but it seems like it needs a fair amount of editing, lengthening, and managing of pace.

Fury and Furry has wit and everything else needed for a perfect story but because it was so short I had a hard time getting into it because of pacing. I seemed to quickly lose orientation and direction who is where and what is going on. Yet, because it is not for me, I cannot tell that this will be everyone's experience.

"Inevitably, every star dies, and it had seemed so much better to end their relationship before one of them got swallowed by the other on the way out."

This is a fast paced, fantasy romance novella, the first in Match*Make Me a Vigilante series. This gives off major Sailor Moon, vibes, as quoted from Harrah's acknowledgements.

Noelle, our main character, is a powerful witch, and after a tarot reading gone bad, gets mixed up with a possessed Aksel.

I really enjoyed Fury and Furry, and I enjoyed the characters.
I just wish it was a lot longer.

Overall, a quick fun novella perfect for fans of the magic girl trope and Sailor Moon.
