I'm a huge fan of romantasy but this just wasn't for me. I didn't like the characters and it was a plotline that's been done before. Wasn't a huge fan of the writing either.
When I defective powered witch and 1 hot alpha werewolf meet up, sparks fly, and a few fireballs to.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
One Wolf Next Door by Efthalia is a thrilling and entertaining paranormal romance novel that takes readers on a journey filled with magic, danger, and passion.
The story follows Samantha Willow, a witch with defective powers who has been shunned by her coven. She leads a peaceful life until a new neighbor, Dex Lycophron, moves in next door. Dex is a wolf and an immortal warrior who is tired of fighting for humanity and is looking for some rest. However, when he smells Samantha, he knows he wants her as his mate, and he will do anything to claim her.
The author's writing style is engaging, and the story is fast-paced, making it difficult to put the book down. The characters are well-developed, and their chemistry is undeniable, which makes for a captivating read. The author has done an excellent job of creating a unique and fascinating world of magic and supernatural beings.
What makes One Wolf Next Door stand out is the author's ability to balance the romance and the suspenseful plot. The mystery surrounding the death of Samantha's customer adds an exciting twist to the story, keeping readers on the edge of their seats. The author has also added some humor, which lightens the mood and adds an extra layer to the story.
Overall, One Wolf Next Door is a must-read for anyone who enjoys paranormal romance novels. With its interesting characters, fast-paced plot, and perfect balance of romance and suspense, it is sure to keep readers engaged and satisfied until the very end.
The story itself is decent, it felt a little rushed and all over the place but if you're just here for a good time and not necessarily a perfect read then it's fine. The lore of the PNR world in this book is also pretty cool if not made to feel a little corny just because of the writing.
The weak writing style is mostly what put me off. It's underdeveloped and shallow. The recipe for a good book was here but the writing style killed it in its tracks from Page 1.
I'd give this a 2 because it's okay, but not something I'd ever read again.
ok so, this was a lot shorter of a book than i thought it was going to be, a wolf finds his fated mate in the form of a witch, she refuses to believe or except that there mates, i feel like ive read this time and time again, nothing really stood out from any other wolf/witch book if im honest, the book needed something to stand out and not be another just wolf finds mate mate refuses etc book
I think the premise of the book is good (clumsy witch, hunky werewolf), but it wasn’t executed very well for me. I kind of got bewitched vibes from Samantha, but the dialogue was choppy and didn’t really pull me in. I can see how this would be enjoyable for some readers, but it wasn’t the book for me.
Cute, kinda cozy, mystery with likeable cast and a bit of adventure. A klutz witch and the hottest wolf shifter next door, provide chemistry and simmer while fighting an evil witch, with some magical assistance. Great weekend read.
This was deeply dull and frankly amateur. The writing is not polished, rote and boring, and both the plot and the characters are cookie-cutter. I read the first third before skimming the rest. Not worth reading, even if you're a devoted paranormal romance fan. I LOVE fantasy, and I love the new trend for contemporary paranormal romance, but this is not it. I wish the author had taken more time developing this or written a different story, nothing about it was special or even original.
This story was a hard one for me to enjoy. I liked Samantha and and Dex but there was a lot of unexplained things and how people would just accept the idea of magic so easily. Even learning about Dex seem like an after thought to her. It was just a story I had a difficult time moving past some of the issues and flow of the story. I really wanted to enjoy it but then another thing would pop up.
This was a very quick, cute read that really sets the stage for more installments.
Sam is a witch who has always had trouble with her powers. Left on her own to stumble along and generally shunned by other witches, she’s developed her own flower shop as her source of income and tends to avoid magic use. She’s thrown into the thick of things, though, when someone shows up dead on her doorstep and warlocks start popping out of thin air. There’s also the mysterious hottie next door that keeps sniffing around her.
All of this combines to make for a rather magical (ha-ha) time in her life, with many twists and turns along the way. There’s romance, sizzle, secrets, and a bit of action thrown in to round out this first book of a series. Having met a good number of interesting characters, I’m curious where we go from here.

I had a hard time getting into this because Samantha is so very dumb, and Dex is such a creepy stalker. I can't get into the fated mate trope when it's done like this. It's a crutch. There's no chemistry. No work has gone into making this romance believable.
The writing isn't terribly bad, it just isn't good. There are repeated words in too close of succession, punctuation issues, too much telling, stiff and stilted dialogue, incorrect words used (having instead of saving, sent instead of scent, etc.), and the sexy bit that I read was quite lackluster.
Solid meh.
ello Everybody! I sometimes do some reviews of books I get off Netgalley. To be honest, I only do those I can say something good about because I don’t like tearing down another author’s book publicly unless I am taking a lesson from it.
The book I’m talking about today is One Wolf Next Door by Efthalia. I have to start by saying that’s a cool name. It just is fun. And it looks nice on the cover. I will also mention that my Everyday Disasters books use the same cover model. I’m not saying that biases me, but she’s an awful cool model. Anyhow, moving along.
One Wolf Next Door is Urban Fantasy romance. You have wolves and witches and vampires living in a world of human where human are unaware that magical beings walk among them. Our main character, Sam, is a ‘defective’ witch. She’s also a florist. She’s defective, in her words, because when she casts spells they don’t work. They usually cause some kind of minor mayhem. I have to pause here and say that Sam does twitch her nose to make her magic work. Yes, just like Samantha on Bewitched. I’m taking it as homage to the show. It also, yet again, made me try to figure out how to actually twitch my nose, making me look silly while I failed utterly.
Dex is the titular wolf next door. He’s Sam’s relatively new neighbor and of course he’s gorgeous and kind of Alpha-y, and upon seeing her, realizes she his mate. Okay, another pause here. I usually hate fated mate tropes because it leaves nobody any choice and what if you end up with a psycho as a mate? (I have thoughts about a very dark story involving that scenario, but I doubt I’ll write it because yeah, dark). In this case, Efthalia treats the situation lightly with both being in agreement, and while things move quickly, there’s definite consent all around.
The plot revolves around someone trying to kill Sam for reasons unknown and Dex (who’s a retired member of a paranormal policing organization) helping capture the person and protecting Sam, and Sam figuring out she’s not as detective as she thought.
The book comes to a satisfactory closing, but also sets up the next book in a good hooky, but not terribly cliffhangery way. Kudos there.
First let me say the book is a fairly short and super fast read and doesn’t have a lot of meatiness. It’s a beach read, which is perfect for me right now. The plot is fast without much by way of subplots. You’ve got the question of who’s trying to kill Sam and why, and then you’ve got the romance. This isn’t a tortured romance, but two people happy to get acquainted and having banging sex and both being delighted with one another. No personal angsty-ness between them, which I found refreshingly pleasing. It’s just nice to see people meeting and lighting up for each other and having it go well.
We’ve got a few ensemble cast members who are fun and that makes me happy because I’m fond of ensemble casts. We’ve got some fighting action and a fairly shallow and stereotypical villain, but I’m okay with that. I don’t need to have deep angsty-ness about him.
If you’re looking for a breezy and happy read with some action and the good guys winning, this is definitely a good book to pick up. Grab your soda (or daquiri) and sit back in your lounge chair (couch or bed) and enjoy!
Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of ONE WOLF NEXT DOOR (Book 1 of the Willow Witch Chronicles) by Efthalia, in exchange for an honest review. Samantha Willow is a failed witch operating a florist shop. Her time off is spend daydreaming about her hot next door neighbor. The murder of one of Sam's regular customers kicks off a series of events that have Sam dodging a killer.
This book was mostly a series of action scenes strung together in a series. Everything was immediate and intense; there was little downtime. The author's voice was very young.
#OneWolfNextDoor #NetGalley.
This story is cute , short , with fun characters and romance.
Overall the story is easy to follow and it only took me a few hours to read entirely. The cast of characters is interesting with a mix of witches , warlocks , vampires , and werewolves . Main themes are:
Murder mystery
Touch her and die
Fated mates
Secret organizations for magical beings.
Strong and handsome MMC
Semi independent and clumsy FMC.
I like that our lead FMC ,Sam, is fairly independent , at least in the beginning. She considers herself a“defective “ witch due to her lack of understanding over her abilities. Regardless of her traumas and struggles , she has created a decent life for herself selling flowers.
Dex is our typical handsome werewolf MMC that instantly takes a liking to Sam and will stop at nothing to have her. He’s headstrong ,proud, and a little too perfect. I liked the romance between the characters and it made for a sweet neighbors to lovers story.
Some things I felt were a little cheesy or unnatural. For example some of the banter and conversation were a little uncomfortable and felt forced and unreal.
Also the romance scenes , while quite spicy, were uncomfortable with how they were described and it seemed over detailed with a few too many mentions of bodily fluids.
If you want an easy quick werewolf and witch romance to make you feel warm ,fuzzy, and spicy I totally recommend giving this one a go.
Thank you very much for the ARC of this book!
This book tells the tale of a young witch who has been told almost her whole life that her magic is defective. Nothing she does disproves that. Now her life is in danger and she must embrace the power of positive thinking. It doesn’t hurt that the hunky werewolf next door and a powerful warlock believe in her.
This is an enjoyable mystery with romantic elements. Sam and Dex will make you smile.
A cute paranormal romance with some mystery and a adventure.A cute read with great world building. This my first time reading this author and I like to read more.
