I loved this book! I really like how this book stresses that individuality is important, and also beneficial. Additionally, the ending of this book was so heartwarming when all of the other hermit crabs realized that they can be glamorous, too! Speaking of glamour, the illustrations perfectly captured the beauty and *sparkle* of the treasures the crabs found and used. I have nothing bad to say about this book. Bravo!
This is a wonderful feel-good children's book. I would absolutely recommend this to children and to parents, and think it would do well in classrooms as well. I'm Fabulous Crab! I am an accessories girlie and have always been the weird one, so as a 27-year-old female, I also heavily enjoyed this read. Children's books are wonderful for all ages!
I received this copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily. These are my honest opinions.
Henry shows us it’s okay to be your fabulous self! Being average is boring. Shine on! Henry wants to be different. He wants to express himself without worry or fear. He decides do spruce up his look and stand out in the crowd. Can he be his true self without fear? This book was so cute with its alliteration and rhymes! The images were colorful and I could see children being excited to turn the page. I received a copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Rainbow Fish walked so Fabulous Crab could run.
'I'm Fabulous Crab' is just that and more. Poor Henry gets sick of being dull and fitting in -- he wants all the glitter and glam he can stand! Alongside adorable illustrations, this is a wonderfully vibrant ode to chasing your dreams and being larger than life.
(Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a free digital copy in exchange for an honest review.)
I enjoyed this fun, sparkly book. The illustrations of the ocean floor are very pretty and the bright colors definitely draw your eye to the page. The rhyming is also a wonderful touch, as I feel it always makes children’s books more fun! I enjoyed the message that it is ok to try something new, even if others don’t want to! It may turn out to be a great idea!
Henry is sick and tired of beeing a dull hermit crab, he wants more bling in his life. So he pimps his shell with treasures and becomes Fabulous Crab!
A colourful and fun tale about not being mainstream, not being made fun of and when finaly someone recognises you for what you really are. A piece of ART!
This was beautifully illustrated And written. It had a great message of expressing yourself and being hippy no matter what anyone says
I loved this book! It's about a hermit crab, who decides he wants to wear something more exciting than an old drab shell. He goes around and finds beautiful things to decorate his shell with, and in the process inspires other crabs to do the same. It has beautiful, bright pictures and a great message about being fearless and expressing yourself! It also rhymed with a great cadence. This was a fun read! I highly recommend.
Fab Crab has a plan. Nobody is aware of it.
Then the plan goes according to the plan, and happiness prevails. The end.
Some of the facial expressions of the characters, and the colours were lovely. Overall, the art style was 4.5/5.
I loved the shark's reaction the most. The predators' side of the story was very well done.
This is a bit different from many children's books we have read - it follows a traditional fairy tale structure but the nuances make it different (fresh).
There are some rhyming parts as well.
It is indeed fabulous! The message to be your true (sometimes shiney, somtimes glittery) self is so important and wonderfully shown in this book. I liked the art style a lot and the rhyme scheme was helping too. I would recommend to read it, it was wonderful!
I'm a Fabulous Crab is a fantastic story, highly engaging and recommend.
This wonderful picture book has been recommended and used in a Year 1 classroom in a lower socio enconomic area with much praise.
The colours of this book are beautiful. A story about a crab who wants to shine, he wanted to have glitter and glamour and to dazzle. Everyone else didn't like him being glamourous, until they gave him a hand and decided they looked cute after all! Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I'm a Fabulous Crab is a picture book about a hermit crab who wants to stand out in the crowd. It has some of the cutest illustrations that I have seen, and a great message about finding what makes you feel fabulous.
This picture book is one of my favorites that I have read this year. Our fabulous crab has so much personality & voice.
Thanks to NetGalley, Nicki Greenberg, & Flyaway Books for the chance to read this super cute book!
I'm Fabulous Crab is an enchanting and adorable picture book with simple rhyming verse written and illustrated by Nicki Greenberg. Released 19th Sept 2023 by Flyaway Books, it's 40 pages and is available in hardcover format.
This is such a cute, upbeat, and friendly book. Henry doesn't want to be a drab brown hermit crab, and searches for ways to be more colorful and blingy and embraces his inner Fabulous Crab! It's not always safe to stray outside your comfort zones, but having helpful and supportive friends is always good as Henry finds out.
Despite being June, this sweet story is 100% age appropriate and not pushing any message other than living authentically and that it's ok to be yourself. Unfortunately, in some areas in the USA, libraries are battling censorship and book banning threats, and acquisitions personnel might worry that this would attract unwanted attention. There is zero objectionable content.
The art is very colorful and festive and full of small details which will be perfect for "I spy" type games with youngsters. The author/publisher have included discussion questions and resource materials for classroom use and discussions with parents or teachers/facilitators.
Five stars. Fun and well illustrated. It would make an excellent choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, and gift giving.
Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.
Very cute and engaging book with a great message about being true to who you are. Fabulous crab reminds me of Tamatoa from Moana haha great children’s book
ETA: I just saw the additional resources for parents with guided questions. This is wonderful! Thank you so much these will be beneficial to so many parents
Loved the whole pretense of this book, that you don’t have to be afraid of who you are. My son loves the whole book and enjoyed the story too. Having it as a crab was great! The illustrations and storyline were quick and to the point very engaging!
Thanks NetGalley and publisher for the early read! This book reminded me of the aging crab from Moana. It was still very cute and surprising. The colors and illustrations were very bright and fun. Perfect for little readers who love sea animals.
I read this book to my 4 and 6 year old. They both enjoyed it, but it seemed my 6 year old enjoyed it more due to some of the ‘big’ vocabulary. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. This book gave me Pout Pout Fish vibes, perhaps just because of the sea creatures and style of illustrations, but in my opinion if you liked Pout Pout Fish, you would enjoy this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Flyaway Press for this ARC.
This wonderful rhyming picture book is a great way of expressing being who you are, even if it is adding extra shine. This book reminds me of my middle child, the stereotypical middle child, who is outspoken and loves glitz and glam. When I read this book to her she was enamored with the illustrations and found the crab relatable. What my middle daughter and I loved most about this book is expressing and embracing who you are, even if it involves a little too much glam. As an educator, I loved the rhyming phrases as it’s such an important developmental milestone - rhyming, and is important in academic achievement.
A hermit crab's way of surviving is living unnoticed of the predators. But Henry wants more, he wants the glimmer and shimmer. This is a way of telling children that they can also shine. Life might not be easy, but you can always shine your way. This book comes with a discussion, free to download on the website, to explore more about the story, the words and the art. It is a good way to spend time screen free, fun and the book does come with pretty illustrations.
