CEO's Pregnant Lover is the first book in the Denver Men series by Leslie North.
This book is a quick read that I could not put down! I can't wait to read the next book! I definitely recommend checking out this book!
I loved the story. I thought the characters were engaging and well written. The romance was steamy and then there was the mystery and suspense. Wow!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Brianna and Trent. Brianna works for Trent’s company. Trent is the CEO of his family’s company. Brianna is told she is temporarily taking the administrative position for Trent administrative assistant. There is an instant attraction. Brianna is having a hard time with her Mom being sick and her staying in an unsafe hotel. She is attacked by two men. Trent goes to rescue her. They start dating. They fall in love.
Pretty good book.. Leslie north's books are always entertaining and steamy... A he fell first book with drama and a cliffhanger ending... Making me want to know what happens next..
Briana affects Trent differently than anyone ever has. She isn't combative or forceful, yet with her calm demeanor, she easily disarms him. Her occasional sass combined with her vulnerability awakens Trent's protective side. She makes him desire something unprecedented for him: a commitment to eternity.
I'm captivated by how Briana, with her subtle and efficient nature, throws a usually self-assured Trent off balance. Seeing him uncertain and rethinking his moves is endearing. However, this gentle narrative takes a distressing turn, leading to a tragic event that reflects every parent's deepest fear. This forces Trent to confront his inability to shield Briana and Faith from relentless adversaries. The story's conclusion was a disappointment for me. The abrupt change in tone was unsettling. While I grasped why Trent became so dominant in Briana's life, I wished she'd asserted herself more. Still, given its brevity, the story accomplishes a lot.
This book honestly read like one big prologue. The security team that shows up in the epilogue are featured in the other books in this series but they were never mentioned prior to the end of the book so I was like “who are these dudes”
It was okay but not great. Brianna was an irritating character for me, I HATE the petname “honey”, and the pregnancy part of their relationship was pretty much fast forwarded.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The last Leslie North book that I read was wonderful. This one is like a 1980’s Harlequin Presents, and I don’t mean that in a good way. To make things worse, it’s a serial! That’s right, there is zero resolution and instead, we must read on with another book. This is not a standalone- repeat- not a standalone.
The h is a young assistant who is supporting her mother in a nursing home (like there is no public assistance?) and so lives in a dump and is forced to eat pb&j every day. Her thrift story clothes draw attention to her womanly form, and surprise! A button pops off on her first day of getting moved to assist for the CEO, exposing her bra and he just can’t resist.
The H is besotted with her blushes and feminine smell, her gentle ways, and so intrigued by why she lives in a dump. Then somehow when she gets mugged, the hospital calls the CEO (yeah right) to get her.
Her picks her up, yada yada yada, she’s pregnant (as you can tell by the title) and then there is the rest of the story. See, I didn’t spoil it.
Three stars, and I don’t really want to read the next one. Serial me once, I’m done. I have an unforgiving heart.
Now, that basketball series you started…when does book 2 come out?
Quick read that ends with a cliffhanger. Brianna is the new employee at Caldwell Industries who finds herself filling in for the boss's assistant. Trent Caldwell dates models but is intrigued by his new assistant. Need to read the following books to find out what happens to them.
A quick read. I don't expect much from these short novels, but even I was a little disappointed with this one. I felt like the whole thing was rushed and needed much more padding out. The relationship between main characters sprang out of no where with little to no introduction. I did like the whole story concept but needed more in way of story telling, a it jumped around with hardly any explication.
Am intrigued by the next book though.
Very predictable in places, no chemistry between the characters. Not very believable story at all. Sorry but I wouldn't recommend at all.
I am so sorry to say that I absolutely did not enjoyed reading this book.
The characters had no depth, no emotions and it felt like I read about artists and not about actual people.
The story went on way too fast and in such an unrealistic way that I was shaking my head all the time. I probably would habe liked this book more if it had 200-300 pages more, more pages for their relationship to evolve so that it feels realistic.
Brianna becomes Trent's temporary assistant even though at times she is a clutz, yet the two of them work well together and the chemistry is good between them. The story is fast-paced yet enjoyable until the end where there is a cliffhanger.
The potential here was enormous, however, on each juicy, meaty plot point there was a sudden rush through that left me feeling discombobulated with a side of whiplash! I enjoyed the premise, the sugariness, potential for danger and the characters but really wanted it to be stretched out to really develop the story and characters further. A shame, as I know It would have been absolutely my jam with these tweeks.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Relay Publishing for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the first in a new series. This seems to be a first for Leslie North as well-it is a cliffhanger!! I was really surprised. This is Trent and Brianna's story. They have good chemistry and this is a fun read. 4 stars
So I was happy that this was a quick read when I first glanced at it. I thought it would be a nice quick read before diving into some other series that I wanted to read.
First the book escalated quickly. I felt like this is something that was just thrown together. The character build up was non existent. It was just like boom relationship.
Since it was a short book I didn’t expect to have a cliff hanger. WRONG! Apparently there is multiple stories. The author could have composed them under one book is what I am assuming. I did not hate it but honestly did not love it enough to read the next book to find out about the cliff hanger.
Trent is a CEO of a company and his assistant needs to take a leave of absence so Brianna is promoted to replace her while she's gone. Brianna needs the job because she takes care of her ailing mother. The romance between Trent and Brianna is a whirlwind. There isn't any should we or shouldn't we.
I didn't realize this was a short novella; so, I was curious to why the story and relationship was speeding along. There is a big cliffhanger at the end that continues on to book 2. The cliffhanger is a big reason why I rated it the way I did. Nothinhg in the description says that the story continues on in book 2.
This is the first book in a series. I really enjoyed the book. However it does end with a cliffhanger. Trent is the CEO of his company and has a new woman every few weeks. That is until Brianna comes into his life. These two lead very different lives but there attraction leads the way. I anxiously await the next book to get the answers this book left
If you don't like serious cliffhangers then wait to read this until book 2 comes out because boy does this story take a turn at the end!
Brianna has sacrificed a lot to care for her mother. Even though life is hard right now, she knows if she just keeps her head down and does her job well, she'll eventually make it through to the other side. Trent is a grumpy boss. When his personal assistant has to take an extended absence from her job he asks human resources to send up a temporary replacement. He wonders what human resources was thinking when they sent up mousy, klutzy, and very odd Brianna but he quickly discovers that under all of that is a hard worker and an interesting woman. When Brianna finds herself in need of a little TLC, Trent comes to the rescue and the two of them can no longer deny their attraction. But can these two very different people find lasting love together?
Brianna is very aware that she attacks the attention of men and works hard to make herself undesirable. I thought it was funny that she thought her "disguise" would work. The author doesn't focus too heavily on Brianna's appearance after Brianna and Trent get together because it's obvious that Brianna has dropped her disguise. If you are looking for a Cinderella story, this isn't one. I love that Brianna continues to keep her head down and do the work that is needed throughout the entire book. Trent has a pretty big arc. He starts out grumpy but not aware of how his personality is seen by the employs at the company. He really comes out of his shell during the story and goes from being a bit of a pushy jerk to someone who embraces happiness. He actually has a pretty good backstory that explains a lot about how he lives. I'll be interested to see how the author ties that up in the next story. There are some side characters but they don't play much of a role until the epilogue. Oh, that darn epilogue! There is a bad guy. I can't decide if he's really bad and awful or if the author is going to give him a twist. Only the next book will tell that part of the story.
I really hated the end of the story. It is an ABRUPT shift from the tone of the rest of the story and it was jarring. I admit that I didn't love how Trent just took over Brianna's life. I did understand why but I really wanted her to push back more but, in the end, this is a short story, and you have to make some allowances where there isn't more space to write extra details. There was one scene that drove me nuts. Trent is rich and lives in a mansion so wouldn't he have staff? I guess I just can't imagine Brianna (a very private person) getting busy in the dining room with household staff around but that's just me.
This is a contemporary romance between a boss and an employee. It is set in Denver. I would recommend this if you like stories that take place over a more extended period of time and you don't mind a lot of events taking place off the page. I will definitely read more from this author in the future.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It’s a novella and it’s speed is too fast it’s rush and it spread to four books in total and it end in a cliffhanger.
Trent is a ceo looking for an assistant her previous is on leave and a new employee get the job.
And they begin a relationship and she get pregnant and then someone kidnapped the baby and it set the scene for book 2.
DNF just shy of the halfway point. I very rarely DNF books I've received ARCs of, but this one is far too cringy and beyond inappropriate to continue. A foreword indicated that this book is a reissue of one originally published in 2014, and I wonder if anything was changed. Either (a) it wasn't, and therefore was equally inappropriate a decade ago or (b) it was even more horrifically bad then than it is now. Oof.
Warning that there may be some spoilers ahead.
A) Trent is an a-hole. It doesn't matter if his girlfriends are shallow, dumping people with jewelry as a parting gift-- that his assistant buys for him--is so Regency England lord and courtesan that it was laughable.
B) Trent is also a boss-hole. It's nice that we can hear his inner thoughts to prove he's really caring and is charmed by Brianna, but still, when she bangs her knee on the desk and he "helps" by lifting her skirt and rubbing the owie? When he doesn't even know her? And is about a decade or more older? Yuck. If he were an average guy, balding and with a spare tire around his middle, everyone would be horrified. But since Trent is hot, it's totally okay. But it gets worse when he brings her to his house after she's hurt (doesn't the company have health insurance, btw?) and then decides he should sleep in the same bed with his unconscious subordinate, you know, in case, and then not even 24 hours after she's suffered a concussion, he has unprotected sex with her on the floor.
It doesn't matter if Brianna is attracted to him. She's in a subordinate role. He's her boss. Just no.
Don't get me wrong. It's not that boss/ assistant is a never for me, but it has to be handled with much more skill. And less yuck.
I just... can't.
If there are any redeeming qualities, it's that Brianna is a seemingly good-- if a little naive--person.
So, I'm sorry to be so harsh, but I really did try. I just found myself wanting to rescue Brianna from Trent, and that isn't generally what I look for in a romance novel.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the publisher and Netgalley. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
CEO's Pregnant Lover by Leslie North.
Book 1 of Denver Men.
Klutzy, adorable Brianna Daughtry is nothing like the women Trent Caldwell is usually attracted to. The handsome, cold-hearted billionaire goes for bimbos and eye-candy who look good on his arm, women who won't make a fuss when things end. But Brianna, his new temporary assistant, is nothing like that at all…
Brilliant read. Loved Brianna. Trent grew on me. I'm looking forward to the next book. 5*.
