This was a great read, a little out of the norm from my cozy mysteries, but definitely a great book!!! I am now a fan of Jane Renshaw for sure!!
I loved this book so much and read it in one sitting. I loved the characters and the storyline. Finding out if her fathers death was on purpose or a suicide as it was stated it was. Digging up old secrets is dangerous. I would definitely recommend this book.
Unfortunately after multiple attempts to connect with this book I have had to admit defeat and mark as dnf.
Thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy. Ooh, this was fun! I really enjoyed this twisty thriller from Jane Renshaw. It was my first novel by her but won't be my last!
This story unfortunately didn't grab me & I felt it quite a chore to read if I'm honest. I'm sure others enjoyed it, it just wasn't for me!
"The Other Sister" marked my first foray into the works of Jane Renshaw, and I can confidently say it won't be my last. While the story had a somewhat slow start, around the 30% mark, the narrative gained momentum. This book was an enjoyable read. The narrative's gradual unfolding allowed me to become more immersed in the plot and characters as the story progressed. What particularly stood out for me was that I couldn't anticipate the significant twist, a quality I greatly value in a book.
This was my first Renshaw book and unfortunately the writing didn’t work for me as well as I hoped.
This story was compelling, I was gripped from the start but the writing kept taking me out of the story. It was overly written in a way that made what was a gripping, dramatic plot feel almost boring
The writing in this book goes back and forth from a child’s journal and letters to a present day story filled with a mysterious death and the discoveries that follow. Though it had a slow start for me, after some disturbing revelations from the past and a suspenseful pursuit in the present, the book became difficult to put down and I didn’t see the ending coming.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This one was a slow struggle to read. I don’t feel like it was much of a thriller. The summary of the book was better than the actual book.
This is my first book by Jane Renshaw and I'll definitely be checking out the others. I thought it had a bit of a slow start but about 25% in the story really starts to unfold and it becomes harder to stop reading. I enjoyed the way we discovered past events through the diary of a child, although at times I thought they made the 1980s feel like the 1880s and I felt old hahaha. Overall an enjoyable read and I did not guess the big twist which is always a big plus for me in a book.
DNF at 25%. This was SO boring. How is it classified as a thriller? Nothing remotely thrilling in the first quarter of the book. This felt like a chore to read.
This is the first book I have read by this author, but after reading this I know it won't be the last.
The story is told by dual timelines, the present day with Iris, and the past (1985) via her mum's diaries. The beginning was a little bit slow but the pace quickly picked up and it didn't affect my enjoyment at all also once the pace picked up there was plenty if twists which made me think.
I would definitely recommend this book.
Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for this read.
A new-to-me author, but this title missed the mark. Judging from the synopsis, this was the type of story that appeals to me, but there was something off about the storytelling. I never looked forward to reading, and I just couldn't engage with the characters or the story.
Tension Fuelled..
Deaths, mysterious circumstances, secrets, lies and deception galore in this chilling domestic suspense with twists aplenty. Centred around a familial deception, dynamics are explored and the reader slowly drawn into the plot and the family drama. With a credible and convincing cast, an intriguing plot which makes effective use of a dual timeline, this is a tension fuelled and dramatic read.
4 "my head is spinning delightfully" stars. This was a 4 star read for me for quite a while, then when the explanation came of what was going on, it bumped it back to a 3. It was a tad bit too complicated and convoluted for my tastes. But...that final twist was a punch to the sense and it became a 10 star read. I loved it and it was unexpected for me at least. My mouth literally did hang open and I spluttered about for a bit. I think domestic thriller fans will appreciate this one!!
A psychological thriller that gave me the chills even after it ended.
The story was about the Pakenham sisters. When Daisy Pakenham's husband dies , her daughter Iris is sure that he was murdered. She realized that his death was connected to the Pakenham's family secrets and the eldest Pakenham sister, Rosemary. What then happens is Iris trying to solve her step-father's death and finding the hidden secrets of the Pakenham family.
The story was exceptional from the very start to the end. Just like Iris, we are also curious to know who killed Sam and what the Pakenham family hid for years.
This book didn't let me sleep and even after reading it, it gave me chills. I highly recommend it to fans of psychological thrillers.
This was an excellent suspense book, a daughter trying to figure out her fathers killer when his death was deemed accidental…delving isn’t a terrible past of her family, the twists are unexpected and interesting.
Thankyou to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC.
The Other Sister is a gripping psychological thriller that had me gripped and on the edge of my seat from first page until the last.
It was fantastic thriller full of family secrets which had me guessing until the very end.
I literally did not see the end coming, i was gob smacked.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a thriller with suspense, intrigue and deceit.
Thanks
4/5 stars
The Other Sister is the second book by Jane Renshaw that I've had the pleasure of reading. If you love dysfunctional families and books that leave you guessing until the end, you don't want to miss this one.
Iris is convinced her stepfather didn't overdose on heroin - her evidence is that he was totally anti-drugs and against drug use altogether. She begins to investigate his death, which causes ripples, and she suddenly learns not everyone is happy with her delving into it. The more she uncovers, the more she links to her mother and her aunts past. The book delves between two timelines (the present and the past set in the 1980s). This book had a few twists and turns to keep you guessing, and I loved the end twist! I look forward to what the author creates next!!
When Iris is told that her stepfather Sam died from a drug overdose she doesn't believe it because Sam hated drugs. Iris is sure something else sinister killed him and she does her own investigating to try and find out what but someone is not happy and is determined to stop Iris. I didn't connect with any of the characters and I can't explain why however that did not take away my enjoyment of the book. The plot is fast paced and demanding which I loved. I could literally feel the danger seeping through my pores. It had me feeling scared with a adrenaline rush and I just had to keep reading.
