Ms Perfectly fine Follows Autumn and Elijah in a grumpy sunshine enemies to lovers romance story. However there’s a twist, Autumn has a stalker. What could happen?

I throughly enjoyed this novel giving it a 4 star rating, it’s the perfect book to read when you just want to relax with your favourite cozy drink and forget about everything else because you’re intrigued by what will happen next. I loved the characters as they weren’t perfect and each had their good side and their flawed side, making the story feel more realistic.

Also the writing style and pacing for the book were stunning. Normally, I’m really good at figuring out the suspect in Mystery and Thriller novels, but I have to say in this book it caught me off guard.

This book as not perfectly fine, unfortunately.

Autumn (26) and Elijah (32) are thrown together in the most ridiculous circumstances ever when her landlord (a long-time family friend and practically an uncle) rents out the bottom floor of her townhouse to someone she's never met without even telling her. She finds out when she wakes up the morning Elijah is moving in--all of her possessions downstairs are being moved to storage without her permission or any advanced notice. Honestly, I could not willingly suspend my disbelief that anyone would subject the daughter of a close friend to something like that, especially considering her history and chronic pain. It was so far fetched that the book got off on a very wrong foot with me.

Autumn and Elijah aren't bad characters, but a significant portion of the book was spent with them trying to one-up each other and drive one another out of the house. It was childish things like changing the locks, eating each other's food, using the other person's credit card, etc. Because of their petty antics, I often struggled to like either of them.

Dialogue throughout the book was just awkward and overdone. You know that part in Definitely, Maybe when Maya comes out of school reading the textbook for the human reproduction unit they were studying at school? Do you recall how she was reading it? That's exactly how this book sounded in my head. I tried to just let it flow, but it always felt unnatural and forced (just like their living arrangements). Their romantic encounters and conversations just made me cringe. Even though the book was written in the third person from Elijah's and Autumn's points of view, there were frequent italicized passages of their inner thoughts. It was rather cheesy, and portraying their thoughts could have been achieved in a much better way. Pick first or third person and stick with it.

The book description briefly mentions a gift that becomes alarming. Yes, it featured in the book off and on, but not as much as I'd expect since it been going on for three years. Prepare yourself for the perpetrator's big reveal near the end. I was reminded of Syndrome in The Incredibles when he said, "You've got me monologuing!" Because that's exactly what happened (without the antagonist admitting as much). But wow, there were several pages of it.

In addition, the book often came across as preachy in regards to chronic pain, particularly in Autumn's conversation with the person leaving the roses. The author's note at the beginning said she didn't want Autumn's pain to define her, but it did. It was her most prominent feature, and it was the platform she stood on to defend herself in the end.

Based on this experience, I don't plan to delve into any more books by this author.

Note: Some swearing, including f words. Several LGB characters. A few moderate sex scenes. Really cheesy dialogue.

It’s Disability Pride Month and while I haven’t been able to find out if this is an own voices story - it does have a MC with a storyline focusing on chronic pain from an injury. This is a romantic suspense novel, and my only critique is that this aspect of the storyline (in the ARC) was a bit slow to develop.
.
I loved Autumn and Elijah and their romance! They started out like fire and ice and slowly got to know each other. As Elijah learned about her pain, he carefully would pivot to help so Autumn could take care of herself. I had never heard of romantic suspense, and I would read the genre again.
.
The book is out now! TW for the book include stalking, harassment, and trauma

How many times have you said you're fine when you haven't been?

Autumn has lived in her house for 6 years all by herself until Elijah moves in without notice. Elijah wants his company to succeed but the only way it can is with his estranged father's help. Elijah must live in the house in order to receive financial help. Will these two be able to live together without issue or will it all come crashing down hard?

What I love:
~Dual POV
~Forced Proximity
~Enemies-to-Lovers
~Slow Burn

Trigger Warning:
~Traggic Accident
~Stalker

I enjoyed the book a lot! I forgot how much i loved a little suspense and mystery added to my romance! I had such a fun time watching autumn and Elijah’s relationship develop while also wonder what the heck was going on in the background! It definitely kept the pages turning!

I was genuinely SHOCKED by the way this book ended. I really thought I knew who the stalker was and bam I was bamboozled!!

All in all I enjoyed read and definitely recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy! I thought this was a really cute story overall, good if you love a grumpy vs. sunshine couple and I loved how obsessed he was with her 😍 A few plot holes that I think could’ve used better explanations/more information but overall a cute read and one of the first I’ve read that touched on a chronic pain storyline which I thought was done well.

I didn't love nor hate this book. I enjoyed the chronic pain representation but sometimes felt like it was overwhelming in the story. The suspense aspect of the book was pretty predictable but if you like romantic "thrilling" suspense then you might like this.

This was a rather cute read which follows the story of Autumn - who suffers from a chronic injury - and Elijah who find themselves in an unfortunate housing situation before sparks start to fly between them (both in the romantic and not so romantic way). The author managed to skillfully craft the story in such a way that Autumn's trauma and injury was a prevalent and central topic without being a central focus of the story. Her injury was present, it was acknowledged, and it was discussed but Kate Callaghan ensured that Autumn wasn't just her injury and had a life revolving around her. I feel as though the author's love shined through her writing as she drew upon her own experiences to make Autumn's seem realistic and almost tangible.
I also loved how the book started right in the middle of action, meaning that it had a captivating opening that kept me hooked.

However, the writing itself did not feel polished enough to me. Instead there was some rather strange imagery and an aspect of cringiness to it also that made it difficult for me to get stuck in the story. But this style of writing is very easy to digest and would be perfect for anyone looking for a book after a slump!!

The main characters and side characters both fell rather flat to me, feeling quite one dimensional and with little development to their personalities. I think that the book could've been longer in which these could be fleshed out. Cause if you asked me to describe Elijah or Francis in a couple of adjectives, I don't even know if I could think of one. The romance contained one of the tropes I dislike the most - instalove. Within 10 minutes of them meeting, Elijah was head over heels for her and he didn't even know her? Besides that, eh was super stupid (oh there we go, I thought of an adjective). WHO, after someone has told you they didn't expect anyone was moving in, would change the locks as revenge because the other didn't tell them the alarm code. (In case you can't tell, I don't really like Elijah). They got together way to quickly for my liking.
And, finally, the mystery of the roses. Not suspense-y enough (I'm sorry but the last note was an absolute joke). Dead easy. I had guessed 2 or 3 characters it could've been. Turns out one was a scapegoat and the other was the culprit. Enola Holmes and Pip Fitz-Amobi era?

This was a cute book but unfortunately not the book for me. I did enjoy the writing style of the author but the storyline definitely took me a while to get into. I did enjoy the relationship that changed and evolved between Autumn and Elijah and loved the banter that the two had. I was hoping for a little more because they went from unwilling roommates to lovers really quickly and I was hoping for more.

Thank you NetGalley and Kate Callaghan for the opportunity to read and review this book!

I really wish I liked this one, as the premise sounded so promising. However, even from the first few chapters, the main characters are incredibly grating and their interactions are unrealistic and made me uncomfortable (not in a cute, quirky way). I feel like this needed another pass-through on dialogue editing.

It took me a bit to get into the book, but all in all it was a fun, cheesy romcon.

I loved the setting of the story as well, gaming meets music. Although it was very predictable towards the end, i truly enjoyed figuring out the complot.

Loved how the two MC’s grew towards each other. I wouldnt call it enemies to lovers, more like unlike/hate to love.

3.5 stars!!

This book was so so so much fun!! I really do love a good romance with mystery/crime elements so this was really enjoyable! I thought the romance was adorable, so sweet, the love interest is a huge simp, he absolutely falls first, just, completely obsessed with her from the start it was great. He always said the right thing, the "you're safe" was one of my faves; being with her and supporting her instead of trying to save her was super refreshing and just, such a lovely dynamic to read.

The fmc was wonderful, she was resilient and sweet and ready to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. She was a little- the bit with the initial arrest felt like she was going from completely ignoring the problem to blaming the first person who kind of seems suspicious. I understand the compromising position and maybe that switch was just everything bubbling over but I feel like that transition between ignoring the threat and then the investigation could have been smoother. I loved how the experience strengthened their bond instead of strained it- also, another reason I love this sub-genre is because there's usually no third act conflict between the couple which, is amazing- it just pushes them closer together which is always a win.

I loved the dog, the ending was wonderful, I liked the well-rounded-ness of it all. Overall it was a really fun read, a little predictable at some times, and a little bit too fast paced for me to fully believe both the mystery and the romance plot but it was still fun.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.

I don’t really know how to rate this book. The plot has a lot of potential, but the characters weren’t all that likeable.
The dual POV, which I’m usually all for, was entirely unnecessary given the fact that the book was written in third person.

My interest was piqued because of (1) THE title and (2) the FIRST PAGE. I’m sold after these two. (BTW, there was a Spotify playlist, too, at the start of this book! I vibed to it first before reading. 🤭)

I got excited about how things would unfold between the two of them in the forced proximity trope. It was sensible and comfortable when they went from being unwelcoming towards one another to looking out, caring for, and being attracted to one another. I loved how they helped each other get past their respective histories.

I am especially fond of the male lead (Elijah) being extra feminist - supporting the female lead (Autumn) in taking her spotlight in the music industry even if that would mean being apart for some time. I appreciate that he, being a partner, did not overshadow Autumn’s personality - being the strong and independent woman that she is. They were both supportive of one another’s endeavors. (I think I have been more appreciative of fictional men who do not need to use women for their “manliness”).

I am both awed and surprised when past the middle of the plot there happens to be a dash of mystery solving! It felt off at first, yet worth it as it progressed. I guessed wrong with the culprit, btw! (And currently holding back from spilling any spoilers on that matter) This pinch of mystery added a unique flavor to the plot. I have to say, however, that the real culprit’s motive was immensely petty and pathetic.

Overall, this has been an easy and refreshing read! 🫶🏼

This wasn’t the book for me. I had a hard time connecting to these characters, which I think is in part due to it being told in third person. When a romance is dual POV, I think it works much better when it’s told in first person. It felt like the dual POV (which I normally love) added nothing to the storytelling since it was in third person.

The romance also left a lot to be desired to me. It was pretty rushed and unrealistic to the point that I felt I had missed a few chapters of development. I stuck around to the end of the story to find out what was the deal with the roses and the stalker.

Thank you for giving me the chance to review this book!

I was happily surprised by Ms Perfectly Fine.
The first 50 to 100 pages were a bit hard to through as things did not really progress and the story just dragged on.
Then, I was captured by the story, Autumn and Elijah, the various people and story elements they had to deal with, and of course their budding romance.
Very cute.

The mystery element was interesting, but I feel the book was strong enough without it.

I did not like at all how to adult people could be so petty and childish in the way they dealt with suddenly moving in together. I get that you might need to use someone's mug the first morning, but going back and forth in nicking food the other person made was not on.
Yes, OK this became a bit of a plot point in mischievousness, but, no I did not like.

Very excited the book was set in Ireland!!!!!!!

3.5 stars rounded up.

Thank you to NetGalley and CallaghanWriter for giving me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately I DNF'ed this book at 35%. I really did try to continue because I liked the storyline, I just couldn't get on board with the writing and timeline.

Would definitely still try a different book by Kate Callaghan in the future.
