I love a good grumpy x sunshine and enemies to lovers romance! The romance between Autumn and Elijah was cute and written very well. I enjoyed this cute romance!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
This was a great contemporary romance.
I ate this book up. I loved how fast Elijah fell and how Autumn was having none of it at first. Their flirtatious pranks against each other were so fun and cute. I love a reverse grumpy x sunshine and this fit the bill perfectly. I could have lived without the suspense part of it and would have liked to keep it a cute, fluffy romance, however I will say that the author did a good job on keeping the reader on their toes. I didn't suspect that outcome at all!
READ IF YOU LIKE:
- reverse grumpy x sunshine
- forced proximity
- he falls first
- chronic pain/healing
- lil bit of spiciness
- mental health rep
- enemies-ish to lovers
This was full of tropes that I love including grumpy x sunshine and enemies to lovers so this was always going to be a win for me. There were so many great moments between the main characters and I liked that there was a little twist to it too.
This wasn’t my favorite book but it has potential. I think That a few parts could have been flushed out some more and it would be been a great story.
I had difficulty relating to the characters in this book. It might be because of the initial flashback scene where you saw the accident of the FMC and then went into the future. I could understand her physical and mental issues but it seemed like the circumstances on how the FMC and MMC got together were unrealistic. The whole stuck together issue seemed too forced.
3.5⭐️ This was an interesting mix of rom-com and romantic suspense with two very different MCs that ended up working pretty well together.
Read this book if you enjoy:
> Forced proximity
> Romantic suspense
> MMC is a dog owner
> Enemies to lovers
> Chronic pain/mental health rep
> Dual POV
I knew going in there was a romantic suspense element to this book and I was looking forward to it, but it ended up feeling almost like an afterthought to the plotline. There wasn't a ton of depth behind what was happening - and it didn't really come into the story until over half way through. However, it was a nice element to take this above and beyond a rom com story.
The two MCs were fine - I felt like we got to know the FMC more than the MMC - she had a few more layers to unpack. The chemistry between the two was a bit off at times. With the forced proximity, it went from an enemies situation to an abrupt switch of feelings and perception. Overall, there's good character development and the FMC definitely has a backstory that evokes empathy and understanding of her current situation.
There was a good amount of chronic pain (and some mental health) representation in this book, which is always good to see. I thought it was handled well and helped to round out the FMC's character. Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the eARC. I also own a physical copy of this book.
Ms. Perfectly fine was a 3.5 star read for me - which means it's a perfectly acceptable pool side, easy palette
cleanser with a cup of tea type of read!.
- I liked the way the story evolved and the writing was really good (which I totally didn't expect either.)
- The reveal of the dark secret... almost made this a bit of a thriller towards the end and I loved the mixing of the genres!!
I really enjoyed this book and loved the character Autumn. I found it a very easy book to get lost in and the story line was very cute and could relate to the back pain.
I highly recommend to anyone looking for a romance novel.
Perfect little read for when your in the mood for a romcom. I had so much fun it was so high,y entertaining to read.
While the chemistry is there, the story felt a bit predictable at times. However, fans of these tropes will likely enjoy the dynamic between Autumn and Elijah. The added suspense and healing themes bring depth to their journey.
If you love a good grumpy x sunshine tale with a twist of suspense, give "Ms Perfectly Fine" a try!
Ms Perfectly Fine, AKA Autumn is a concert pianist who suffered a terrible accident leaving her with emotional and physical scars. She's living with chronic pain and trying to get train for her first time back on stage since her accident when half her house is rented out to a stranger, Elijah.
This is an enemies to lovers/forced proximity romance, which is one of my favorite tropes making this book hit all the right spots for me. I always like when I can see a little bit of myself in a character and Autumn's stubbornness and "I'm fine" attitude fit me just fine. Eli was so sweet and charming wiggled his way into my heart well before he convinced Autumn. That may have been the dog, Brinkley, though...
Also, as someone who doesn't have any experience with chronic pain, I truly appreciated a look in the mind of someone who has chronic pain while also trying to live their day-to-day lives.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kate Callaghan for this digital ARC. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to Netgalley for sending me this arc.
This small town romance is set up with a shared rental situation. As both Autumn and Elijah try to drive the other out of the house they end up falling for each other. However personally I would have preferred for the romance to occur a bit slower, and felt that it was a bit rushed. Although I did enjoy their banter, I felt the relationship was forced. I did however enjoy the mystery and thriller elements that made this book stand apart.
I would recommend this book for fans of Colleen Hoover, but unfortunately this book was not for me,
Sadly, despite many attempts I have not been able to vibe with this novel and I'm not feeling any kind of fine!
Although I understand that ARCs are not final proofs, there were just some things I couldn't ignore but tried to continue regardless.
I failed!
In the end I gave up and dnf
Quick, easy, and fast to read. The writing didn't pull me in. I felt like there was a lot of narrative distance that actively pushed me out and didn't need to be there. For example, all the thoughts are italicized, but then some are followed up with "she thought" ... I hope the proofreader catches for her before release.
5 stars - self-publishing is hard.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kate Callaghan for the ARC.
I have given this book 3 stars as I don’t feel like I can give it a good or bad rating as I have DNF’d for now sadly.
Will I go back to it at some point? I’d like to, but I got about 40% of the way through and had to put it down. I just could not cope with how rude and out of line the male main character is! I’m supposed to fall for this guy by the end of the book? Not with entitled behaviour like that… that’s not for me sadly. The female main was treated like shit and gaslighted from the off and it didn’t sit well with me.
But thank you to NetGalley and the author for a copy of this eBook for review, I wish I could have carried on, but life is too short for book characters that make you angry!
I am not going to lie I wasnt a fan of this book! I just thought too much happened and I was lost half the time. This wont deter me from reading more of Kate's books so look forward to seeing whats next.
This was a perfectly enjoyable romance with a little bit of spice and a little bit of mystery. I enjoyed the read but it was quite a predictable plot- not necessarily a bad thing but I prefer to be kept completely guessing or to have a plot twist. Don't tell me what's going to happen by dropping hints please!!
Overall an enjoyable read with some good didability representation.
i started reading this, but didn’t get quite all the way through… i’m not huge on suspense and mystery books so that’s probably why. but i do think that if you were into romantic suspense/mystery books this would be a great option!
Thank you for allowing me to read this book. I enjoyed the characters and their arcs, and found the plot interesting. I look forward to reading more from this author.
