Another good read
Perfect book to curl up with and to get lost in
Will have you hooked from the first page
Thanks NetGalley
When I went into this book, I was so excited for the enemies to lovers/grumpy sunshine thriller aspect and I was not disappointed. Even though this was a 3 star read for me, I found myself really enjoying myself while reading. I’m a sucker for bickering and he falls first so you can tell why I liked this book for what it was. If you’re looking for an easy read filled with fun jokes, suspense, and a cute little romance, this would be great for you!
Unfortunately, Ms. Perfectly Fine left me in a reading funk, and finishing it felt like a prolonged journey. The plot revolves around Autumn, a concert pianist making a comeback after a traumatic incident, disrupted by unexpected distractions in her living space. Despite being marketed as enemies-to-lovers, the slow pacing and the absence of genuine animosity from Elijah didn't deliver the anticipated tension.
While I appreciated the portrayal of Autumn's struggles with chronic pain, the addition of a stalker/mystery subplot felt unnecessary and detracted from the main narrative. It left me wishing for a more focused exploration of the core themes.
In the end, Ms. Perfectly Fine didn't meet my expectations, and I would caution others to consider skipping it. The unfulfilled promise of the enemies-to-lovers theme, combined with a slow plot and an unnecessary subplot, made this a challenging and less enjoyable read for me.
The Author’s Note at the beginning was a nice touch to start the book off with. The story is dual POV, Autumn’s and Elijah’s, but you also learn about them as characters through the povs. Autumn has trauma from when she was younger, which she never fully got over. Elijah has trauma too, just a different form of it than Autumn. Throughout reading this, you can tell that they both start developing feelings for each other but are afraid to actually initiate anything, though there is banter and flirting (to some extent) going on.
Elijah learns about Autumn’s past and accepts it, he doesn’t try to change. Instead, he asks her what he can do to help her with all that she’s going through.
This story was a good read, there was one thing that happened during the progression of the book that left me speechless.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and of course the author for gifting me this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Following the story of Autumn and Elijah in this enemies to lovers trope. Elijah falls fast and hard for Autumn but Autumn isn't interested......at first. Autumn is less than pleased when her landlord rents out the ground floor of her townhouse to Elijah and with her trying to make a comeback with he solo pianist career the last thing she needs is a stranger in her house distracting her. However Elijah has no intentions of leaving and Autumns distast only fuels him into wanting to make Autumn fall for him.
Thought this was a really cute, quick read in the end but does follow some difficult content regarding trauma, stalking and chronic pain.
I really enjoyed this book! As soon as I picked it up and started it, I knew that I was going to want to finish it as soon as I could. It focuses on two people who are forced to live together and at the beginning hate each other and make each other miserable. It quickly became a book that I wanted to drop everything to be able to go back and read. This is one that I could definitely see myself reading again.
Thank you NetGalley for the review copy!
A soft romance that could have been more as just couldnt connect to the mc's - bonus points for chronic pain rep!
It's a cute book but nothing special. It took me a while to finish this book so this may influence my opinion on it.
Read this awhile ago and forgot to review my head is a bit hazy but I refer loving this so much the fun and the writing was fantastic
Autumn and Elijah are forced to live together. Autumn tries to get Elijah to move out but then he starts to grow on her. He helps her to get out of her bubble. Did a great job show someone dealing with chronic pain. Also included suspense when Autumn is being stalked. Suspense, romance and some spice. Enjoyable read. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC.
Callaghan is one of my fave bookstagram author finds and i am never disapointed when i pick up a new story written by her. This is a super cute grumpy sunshine book with all the right tropes in it to help it along. i loved the mystery and suspense that was also a focal point in the story. I found this to be a super cute story and i love the he falls first trope!
Really cute, i started it because it reminded me of a Taylor Swift's song 💌
The characters are really cute, and the love story was on point.
It's good for people who are looking for a soft romance book.
I didn't finish this book, the writing style was not for me, it was quite immature and unpolished. I do not think I am the target audience for this book
DNF'd at 33%
Firstly, I loved the cover for this novel and it was a huge reason I requested it. This is a forced proximity, enemies to lovers story, featuring Autumn, a concert pianist who suffers from Chronic Pain and Eli, a video game developer who end up sharing a house together,
This book leans very heavily on tropes, which may work well for some readers, but I struggled as there didn't seem to be enough substance behind the trope. For instance, they are enemies to lover because they don't want to share a house, but are being "forced" to by the owner of the house who has personal ties to both. But their first interaction, while in an awkward situation, had so much hostility without a plausible reason why. Likewise, the "sexual tension" was also so forced, without much of a reason behind it. It read like the trope needs hostility, so some was manufactured, same for flirtation. I didn't feel like either of these things came authentically from the characters.
There is a slight mystery plot that begins around the 25% mark but it's not intriguing enough to keep me reading.
Structurally, there are no problems, The writing isn't overly descriptive, which will work for some readers, however there is a lot of telling, particularly in the creation of characters and this did not work for me.
I love a good enemies to lovers and the forced proximity trope in this book was a bonus.
Though i enjoyed the romance between Elijah and Autumn, as well as the banter.
In all it was t just okay.
Felt a little rushed though
Thank you to NetGalley & Publisher for this in exchange for an honest review!
This was such a cute story. I loved seeing the chronic pain representation in the story. I look forward to recommending this to friends. I felt like it started pretty quickly and kept going.
This was a cute, beach read, I liked the storyline and characters.
**Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy. I received this book for free, but all thoughts are my own.
Ms Perfectly Fine is a strange but surprising mix of mystery and romance that I loved. Many Thanks to NetGalley and CallaghanWriter (independent book publishers) for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
So I was instantly requesting this for the cover (I know but it looked really cute!). I then saw the tropes and got excited- Grumpy x sunshine is one of my favourites. I devoured this book in a solid 2 hours.
So firstly- I would totally pick up as a holiday read for by a pool or for a pallete cleaner after something quite heavy/long. The mystery parts were written SO WELL. I cannot tell you how much I loved the plot. It’s really difficult to get that balance sometimes, and this did it very well. I loved the writing style throughout and I also massively appreciated the thoughtfulness in some of the representations of mental health.
Character wise- Autumn in particular was written absolutely superbly. Her development as the story grew, her relationship with Elijah was a masterpiece
It’s a brilliantly blended mystery thriller/romance that will keep you on your toes
Concert pianist Autumn is returning to the stage after an accident, her landlord rents out the ground floor of her house to Elijah a game developer. Refusing to share her home or to give it up her efforts to make him leave only furthers his desire to win her over.
I DNF’ed this book early, but I’d give three stars is based on other reviewers’ opinions in order to not arbitrarily lower the average star rating. This book was not for me. I was tempted to push through the discomfort in order to provide a proper review, but there are too many books out there that are likely to be more for me.
Based upon the blurb provided, I assumed the situation here would be that both people were moving into the townhouse at the same time, bickering on equal ground over the place and getting up to shenanigans based upon said equal ground/level of entitlement.
Instead, she had lived in this townhouse for six years prior to him barging into said place early in the morning without knocking (he says he was told she wouldn’t be there at that time). So, she’s going through her morning routine in varying levels of dress and vulnerability while absolute strangers move her belongings out of her home. But don’t worry, MMC says, it’s only going to be in his storage place across town. So while that is absolutely theft, it’s fine because he’ll give her her stuff back after he moves out again. (????!!!!) He also puts plants on her piano, which could cause so much damage, and he basically scoffs when she tells him to get his plants off of it.
He also makes some vague threat that he has a contract with her “uncle”/landlord and she doesn’t. She’s still got the right to not have her home and privacy violated without any sort of notice. Yes, her landlord didn’t tell her anything about this guy moving into her house. *facepalm*
Nightmare, absolute nightmare. Strangers barging into her home and stealing her stuff, then being condescending about her objections. I do believe this could turn into a cute romance, but it’s not for me.
