It was great to have Lizbeth and Eli back in this book, I missed them last time. Lizbeth, Felicia, Eli and Peter are finally all getting together, when Eli and Peter, suddenly and mysteriously have to leave. Lizbeth and Felicia, the two half-sisters, are finally alone together for the majority of this book. It was nice to see two strong female characters deal with problems and events as they came their way. Full of action and adventure like the rest of the books in this series, this book also has more family drama as the sisters deal with personal issues as well as danger from outside forces.

The 5th installment in the Gunnie Rose series finds Lizbeth’s sister, Felicia, visiting Texoma w/ Eli's brother, Peter.. This time we get POVs from Lizbeth and Felicia and if it wasn’t evident from the 4th installment, we find out how capable a grigori Felicia is. Full of magic and mystery, this series is not to be missed.
The next installment sounds even better.

*special thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Press for this e-arc.*

This is not my favorite in this series as it seems a bit ot filler book, the one which is written and will drive the plot and the characters toward exciting changes and actions.
I recommend it if you read and liked the rest of the series, not a good one if you didn't read anything else in this series
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Book five in the Gunnie Rose series and I am loving it!

All the Dead Shall Weep brings Lizbeth, Felicia, Eli and Peter very briefly together again before events take Eli and his brother away. Most of the book centres on Lizbeth and Felicia who have a beautiful sisterly bond and are both very strong, capable women. Felicia's magical skills are just amazing.

This book crosses several genres including western, fantasy, and alternate history. It takes place in an area called Texoma (in another history it would be Texas and Oklahoma). The story is told in the alternate points of view of Lizbeth and Felicia.

My only criticism would be that the method the author uses to remove Eli and Peter from the story is very weak. Eli's character is sadly maligned. I hope Harris will let him show his true colours again in the next book. And speaking of next books - there is a hint at the end of this one that a very infamous, real life character is about to enter the tale.

I highly recommend this series if you like something a little out of the ordinary - but do start at book one.

This is not a stand alone novel. It’s more of a continuation of all the volumes that have come before and requires a devotee’s fascination and retention of the goings on in previous novels in this series. There is perky seat of the pants language that sparkles and shines but the plotting is a bit hit and miss. You will either love it or hate it. But with this author built world, I’d recommend starting with volume 1 and reading in consecutive order.

I've read all the books in the series so far. I still feel that the first book is her best. This book was a little odd to me because I'm not sure what the point of it was. On top of that, the behavior of the men & women in their various relationships felt totally fake. Instead of sizzle or tension, we have strain & distance. Granted, this is oftentimes a real occurrence in any relationship. Life can't be all sizzle, butterflies, & rainbows. However, when there is strain, the characters do not behave in ways that are even remotely similar to their past personalities. As the reader, an expectation is created for each characters personalities. After so many books, a huge personality shift is nearly like having totally new characters. Who were these people I just read about? Certainly not the same folks from past books.

Ignoring the personality changes, how about the story itself? What is it that our beloved &/or loathed characters are up to this time? Not much it seems. Told from the point of view of the half sisters. They have some issues to deal with mostly as a sisterly death duo & without their menfolk. There is unwanted attention from both male & females that must be dealt with, including dying/not dying. There are some shenanigans in a couple of towns that the girls have to deal with as well. All the while, they have a gloomy cloud over them due to the absent men they care about.

As far as the supernatural aspect goes, Mrs. Harris is so stinking lazy. Grigories can do magic. Because Lisbeth doesn't perform magic, she doesn't know how they do it. With half the story being told from her point of view, her lack of knowledge is a rather convenient way to avoid having to explain much of anything in this regard. It is also super simple to have some sort of hand waving, fist clenching magic that - poof! - takes care of the bad guys. Super neato. Don't ask questions. Just be wowed. That's all reader, you simple minded twits. Be awed by the power. Don't ask how.

When our forlorn couples are reunited or not, they are entirely too blase about everything. The book wraps up much to neatly and easily for my tastes.

Prior to reading this I started Mrs. Harris's Midnight Texas book. Ouch. That was horrible. One of the worst books ever. Her Sookie Stackhouse series is still her best work. The first two books in this series are decent. This was okay. I doubt I'd read it again. At this point I'm on the fence if I will continue with this series. Maybe I'm just growing out of Mrs. Harris.

My thanks as always to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader copy of All the Dead Shall Weep by Charlaine Harris in exchange for an honest review. This was an interesting book in the series with viewpoints from both sisters, Lizbeth and Felicia. You can tell they are sisters by some of their way of thinking and their ruthlessness. I really enjoyed how the story has progressed and can't wait to read the next.

There was so much going on in this book that I don't know where to begin, except to say that I didn't want to put it down. The story just pulled me along, and before I knew it, it was 2 AM and I had to go to work the next day. It was well worth the loss of sleep. This is the 5th book in the series, and the books should be read in order.

Lizbeth Rose, her husband Eli, her sister Felicia and Eli's brother Peter are all living in Texoma, where they are eking out a living. Peter and Eli leave to travel to San Diego to meet with important people at the Wizard's Ball, leaving Felicia and Lizbeth Rose alone. Lizbeth is already depressed, as she has endured a significant loss, and Eli leaving stirs up all kinds of insecurities in her, particularly as he left her abruptly. She even wonders if he means to come back.

Meanwhile, strangers are showing up and all kinds of trouble begins to happen where she lives. I recommend this series for any lover of alternate universe stories. It's one of the best I've ever read. It's a world where people wish each other 'an easy death'.

My thanks to the author Charlaine Harris, publisher Gallery/Saga Press and NetGalley for the review copy. It was a pleasure to voluntarily read and review.

So glad to move the focus back to LizBeth. Loved seeing how Felicias talents have progressed. This story is more about setting up the next book. Bring on the ball

I can not get enough Charlaine Harris, and All the Dead Shall Weep is no exception. This time around there is more of Rose with Felecia (the last installment was pretty much all Felecia.) We are taken on a journey of many settings, characters, emotions and even different genres. It is just utterly readable. I love seeing all the character growth. I am hoping this will not be the last in the series!

All the Dead Shall Weep is the 5th installment of the Gunnie Rose series. These books are not standalones and should be read in order. I have loved all the books in the series and this one is no exception. There was adventure, sadness, humor - everything needed to make a great book. I love how it included both Gunnie Rose and LIzbeth. It was a nice change to see them bonding. I only wish the book was a little longer and had a bit more substance to it. That being said, I still look forward to reading the next installment.

Gunnie Rose series. I wouldn’t advise reading it as a standalone, as each book builds on the ones that come before it, and the backstory is essential for your reading experience.

Something about this installment of the series made me feel so sad. So many plot lines pulled at my heartstrings, and the story felt like a transition to a much bigger story to come. Good doesn’t really win definitively, though there are small victories. My sadness reminded me how much I’ve come to care about these characters and adore them.

The pace is breakneck, making this easily an afternoon read. For the first time, half-sisters Felicia and Lizbeth Rose (Gunnie Rose) share the narration, which I found interesting, though I would have liked to have seen more of a differentiation in their voices.

This series, a mixture of fantasy, alternate timeline, historical, and Western, never ceases to engage, entertain, and immerse me in a well-developed world full of complexly layered characters. Though this story read much like a transition, it reminded me why I hold such deep feelings for the characters, particularly Elizabeth Rose and her sister, Felicia.

All the Dead Shall Weep is book five in the Gunnie Rose series and is best read in order. Lizbeth Rose aka Gunnie Rose is waiting for her sister Felicia and her husband, Peter’s younger brother, Prince Eli to visit in Texoma. Lizbeth’s marriage is going through a rocky patch after a miscarriage. The arrival of Felicia and Eli is followed by a military attack on the town that results in Eli and Peter pursuing the bad guys across the desert. After a major disaster is diverted, Eli is called home and Peter leaves with him. Feeling deserted, Lizbeth is forced to protect Felicia alone from kidnapping attempts and unwanted suitors. Only Felicia’s strengthening death magic saves Lizbeth from certain death. Eli and Peter return with danger riding in on their hills. The girls face great loss in an action packed, danger filled thrill ride told in alternating points of view. Strong heroines drive another page turning, apocalyptic thriller that will keep you up past your bedtime reading. Gunnie Rose is one of favorites series where each book is equally as good as the last. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.

Ebook/Alternative History/Fantasy: I want to thank Netgalley for a copy of the book.
This novel is done in duel first person narrators. I usually have a problem with that because the characters are new to me and pretty much sound the same. Also, since I don't know the characters, even if they say the other's name, I can't keep it straight.
Here, I already know the characters from the previous books. Therefore, the established characters worked for me. When Lisbeth says something to Felicia, Ii get the narrative.
However, there really isn't much of a plot this time. My big issue with book 4 was Felicia had too many mature thoughts for a 15 year old, but she is more impulsive like a 15 year old in this book.

Another fun book in the series! This is such a unique series and really entertaining. The start of the show is Lizbeth. She's a very young, independent woman who has a very dangerous job as a gunnie. She's hired out for odd jobs protecting what or who needs protecting in their transport. Now think back into the old western days. There are cars, but rare and expensive. Most transport is by horse and buggy. But this old western world has magic. It truly is one of the most uniquest series I've read and the biggest draw for me is Lisbeth. I am such a fan of girl power, so when I find a series where the main hero is the woman, I'm all in. What I like even more is when these women are good people with good morals, who are loyal and brave, and just kicks butt. That's what you get with Lizbeth. I'm truly looking forward to more in the series.

Felicia and Peter are visiting Lizbeth and Eli, what should be a happy sibling reunion becomes something far more confusing and deadly when Eli and Peter return to San Diego after a run in with some mercenaries/soldiers. Lizbeth and Felicia meanwhile find themselves subject to some strange attention as magical suitors for Felicia arrive and some of them are dangerously persistent.

I've always really liked this series - Lizbeth is at her best when she's shooting first and asking questions later (in as few words as possible). Her relationship with half sister Felicia is growing nicely and that is portrayed really well. Otherwise there's some action scenes, family developments, Felicia's powers are really kicking in, this felt a little bit like a filler book that leads you to the next major plot point - the last sentence of the book definitely implies that. Can't wait.

In All the Dead Shall Weep Lizbeth (Gunnie Rose) and Eli reunite with their siblings Peter and Felicia and immediately violence strikes Lizbeth's tiny Texoma town. The brothers take off to discover answers while the sisters are left to fend for themselves through many trials, murder attempts and just everyday life in Texoma.
The Gunnie Rose series is a fantastic alternate universe with fascinating characters. I have really enjoyed every book and can't wait for the next.

trigger warning
<spoiler> gun violence, gore, trauma, mention of miscarriage, mention of abortion, grief, mention of rape </spoiler>

Rose and Eli are married and have tried to settle down but it didn't stick. And when Rose's half-sister and her partner arrive, things go pear shaped fast.

There was no single clear-clut plot idea that defined this book, no "this is our job and we're gonna do it". Things meandered a bit which is a fair representation of life, but if I had to guess why this one got "only" four stars from me, it's that.

We meet many characters from previous installments, among them Rose's family and her neighbors, and we learn more about the kind of life people who don't live on the edge lead. It all adds more colour to the world, at least the dusty-poor part.

I am curious where this will lead in the next one.
I'd recommend this if you've like the start of the series, because this is no good book to jump in. Too much relies on the reader knowing what went before, and in part five of a series, who can fault the author for that?

The arc was provided by the publisher.

I was excited to dive into this novel as I am a fan of Charlaine Harris and have read almost all her books.

Written from a dual perspective (Lizbeth and her sister, Felicia), it was a surprising change. I found the book moved quite quickly and I found myself at the end with some mysteries left hanging and promises of upcoming events in a future (dare I hope) book.

All in all there was a lot going on, both for Lizbeth and her sister (who comes for a visit). There is sad news for Lizbeth, exciting family news, and lots of excitement both for the town and Felicia (which included Lizbeth too!). There are deaths (some deserved and others not).

There was a sense of something being wrapped up a little too neatly, and it left me wondering if it might come up again in a future book.

Considering how entertained I was and how quickly the pages seemed to turn, I am giving this a 4/5. In terms of overall satisfaction, I was left wanting more - a clearer and better explanation to something that happens, and I am left anticipating more than one future event, which makes me eager for the next book.

I received All the Dead Shall Weep in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.

I do love these books. Ms. Harris has such a fine way with her pacing in a story, and the balance is perfect. Action, action, magic, and action, with a little bit of romance and family business thrown in.
This book has Felicity visiting Lizbeth, and the sisters are getting much more closely bonded. They are true to each other, amidst all the attempted suitors coming after Felicity, and murderers coming after Lizbeth.
It is a non-stop struggle for the two sisters, and a little treat at the end to make us all want them to HURRY UP with the next one!!
