would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this exceptional book
it all begins with harry richards, found murdered in his car, his throat had been cut
but when the wife of one of harrys colleagues turns up dead detective inspector clare mackay struggles to find a connection
because there has to be a connection you cant have two dead bodies from the same law firm without them being connected
finding the slippery perps isnt going to be hard but finding the evidence to convict will be and time isnt on their side
what a rollercoaster of a ride this book is...action and voilence none stop
this author is just getting better and better, cant wait for the next book in this brilliant series
A Blind Eye is the seventh book in the DI Clare McKay series of Scottish crime novels, and there are no signs of a let up for Clare and her team. This time around, local solicitor Harry Richards is found in his car, with his throat slit. What has led to such unfortunate events, and what is still to come?
As with most police procedurals, all is not what is seems with the case, especially with the discovery of more bodies linked to the case. What follows is the unravelling of a major crime organisation, as long as Clare can uncover the evidence in time.
A Blind Eye is a great edition to the series, and can also be read as an excellent stand alone crime novel.
Book 7 in the brilliant DI Clare MacKay series.
When the body of a man is found in his car at a local beauty spot Clare is horrified to find his throat has been slashed. When he is later identified as a local solicitor she is flummoxed. Why would someone do this to an upstanding member of the community? But as Clare and the team dig further it seems not everything is as it first appeared.
I absolutely love this series and was so pleased when Canelo approved me to read this early on Netgalley.
I was hooked from the start and could barely make myself out it down. A cracking crime series that I won't hesitate to recommend to my crime loving book friends.
Another episode in the series about Claire Mackay. I have read and enjoyed others in the series, so in some ways it feels like catching up with old friends. This one was as good as the others, though it did take a couple of chapters for me to get into the plot this time. An interesting plot where different strands came together as the story progressed . There is a little bit of chasing around and following leads which do not lead anywhere, but I suppose that does reflect real police work in many ways. I like the team, their relationships with each other and the way Claire's personal life is progressing . Definitely looking forward to the next installment.
Thanks to Nert Galley, Canelo & Marion Todd for the opportunity to read this book
It was terrific to be reading another Marion Todd book and I absolutely devoured it. Clare Mackay is a terrific protagonist and I find her stories quite addictive. A Blind Eye picks up with Clare as she investigates the sinister discovery of the body of a local conveyancing solicitor, Harry Richards, in his car with his throat cut. It takes very little time before we are deep in the throes of another investigation. Complicated when another body is discovered in a crashed car; the wife of one of Harry’s colleagues.
Despite the lack of a DCI to help with the investigation, Clare carefully follows the clues in her practised way. Supported by her usual team, and some from surrounding stations, the clues soon reveal that the case is more complicated than originally imagined.
This is definitely a thrilling, edge-of-your-seat story, but there is a depth to the writing that shows a masterful hand. From the easy exchanges between the characters to the gripping climax, the story kept me engaged and turning the pages late into the night.
A quick glance at the acknowledgements soon shows the volume of research that Marion includes in her books. She has the support of people with knowledge of all aspects of the story from police procedures to the idiosyncrasies of conveyancing. She even learned about vehicle electronics for this book.
The pace of A Blind Eye is perfect. The story moves along at a steady rate; neither rushed nor dragging, and the clues are uncovered along the way. Having read so many of her books, I really do believe that she is an incredibly talented author. So much so that I have bought copies as gifts, and they are always very well received.
There are familiar elements to the book, like the deepening relationship with ‘her DCI’ and her easy friendship with colleagues Chris and Sara, but they are not challenging if this is read as a standalone story. However, I would recommend going back and reading the earlier books in this gripping series.
DI MacKay after slick bullies: great police procedural🚨
I was so looking forward to a new adventure with St. Andrews DI Clare MacKay and her team and this story well lived up to my expectations. The greater balance of the action is focused on the violent murder of a local solicitor and a tragic road accident that may be connected.
The investigation eventually hits on loan sharking, infidelity, odd property transactions and the revelation of secrets that neither the dead man's wife nor his colleagues ever suspected. The storytelling is clear and concise, making it a first-rate, quick and enjoyable read.
Todd's police procedurals always include plenty of legwork and use of technical aids like the ubiquitous traffic camera and cellphone records mixed with forensics to solve the case, but this novel also broaches new technology that hijacks car electronics systems and causes mayhem. And the author is really adept at explaining how things work for the less technically literate reader like me. Another good element -- the way a chance conversation to a student after a school assembly helps set the investigation on a track that really gets things moving. There was also a good, unexpected twist regarding the solicitor's paralegal and his wife.
I liked that occasional mentions of the private lives of the team, particularly Clare, junk food fiend Chris and his fiancee Sarah, added a bit of normality and even some humor.
Thanks to Canelo Books and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
A week after a woman called the police to report seeing a stalker across the road from her house, her husband goes missing. He’s later found dead in his car. Detective Inspector Clare Mackay and her team, PC Sara Stapleton Sara, DS Chris West, and DS Jim Douglas are called in to investigate.
The victim in question is a solicitor named Harry Richards who according to his wife Louise, left for work the previous day and didn’t come home. Who’s the mystery man and why is he stalking Louise?
Thank you to Marion Todd, NetGalley, and Canelo for the arc of this book.
This was my first Marion Todd novel and I must say that I like her writing style. I especially enjoyed the quiet humor.
The story did grab me at the beginning but then started to drag a bit for me about half way which is usually what happens for me with procedurals. I’m not giving up yet..still on the look out for that procedural that keeps me engrossed from start to end..
3 1/2 stars for me, rounded up to 4.
I’d like to thank Canelo and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘A Blind Eye’ by Marion Todd in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
A report comes in of a body that’s been found in a car parked in Tentsmuir Forest identified as solicitor Harry Richards. Then the wife of one of Harry Richards’ colleagues is involved in a fatal road traffic accident. As DI Clare Mackay and her team investigate, their attention is drawn to local businessman Colin ‘Coke’ Grandison who gives to charities but gets his money through nefarious activities.
‘A Blind Eye’ is a thoroughly enjoyable thriller set in picturesque Scotland and the seventh in the DI Clare Mackay series. The story is complex with two threads running simultaneously with all the suspense, intrigue and drama we’ve come to expect from this author, and touching on the effects of mental health with sensitivity. Clare and her loyal team of Chris, Sara, Max and Jim make a welcome appearance as they strive to get enough evidence to make arrests, and it’s good to learn that Clare’s relationship with her DCI Alastair is still progressing. This is a fast-paced authentic police thriller I’ve enjoyed reading and that I’m happy to recommend.
4.5⭐
A Blind Eye is my first introduction to DI Clare Mackay and author Marion Todd. And what a fabulous introduction it is.
As DI Mackay is tasked to investigate the shocking murder of local solicitor Harry Richards. Whose body is found at a local beauty spot.
But who could want this seemingly nice guy dead?
And why kill him in such a brutal manner?
However, that's not the only thing puzzling Clare, as she's been visiting schools trying to encourage school leavers to join the police and on her last visit she has a strange encounter with a student. Then there's a car accident and the fact somebody else was in the vehicle just before it crashed.
But surely, these incidents aren't connected to the solicitors murder are they?
And with a beautiful Scottish setting, humour, twists and intriguing characters. This was a story that had me hooked. And I'll definitely be reading more from this series in the future. As well as catching up on the books I've missed out on.
I would happily recommend A Blind Eye to crime fiction fans everywhere.
I was lucky enough to receive an early copy of this, it’s out 31 May!
So, the 7th book in the DI Clare Mackay series and the best one yet!
The team at St Andrews are called to a missing persons case which soon turns into a murder investigation. I like the fact it feels like we are reading a real time investigation, we are following a procedural drama over the initial few days of an investigation.
I found the story gripped me from the start, was easy to follow and it didn’t falter! This was an excellent read and of course being a Fifer, I enjoy the local aspect! I would definitely recommend this one and agree 💯 it’s the only way to eat kitkats 😂
This is #7 in the DI Clare Mackay series, but can easily be read as a standalone.
A local solicitor, Harry Richards, is found in his car with his throat slit open, but why would anyone target him when all he deals with is conveyancing? Then a second victim is found with similar injuries – and she just happens to be the wife of one of Harry’s colleagues. Clare and her team need to crack this case urgently because it looks as though the killer might be heading in Clare’s direction.
I love this series, and really enjoyed the clever and gripping storyline.
Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo for an advance reader copy in return for an honest review.
Detective Claire Mackay is in her seventh of the series and there is no let up.Not just the actual story, but the human interest stories of the Detectives and those
involved in the behind the crime scene are also very much part of the story.
Harry Richards does not fit the picture of crime. A solicitor handling mainly property
conveyancy, his world is removed from the circumstances of his death. Found with his throat cut,
Detectives have to sift through seemingly innocuous business matters to find his connectio
n
to crime. When the wife of his junior solicitor is found dead in a horrific car crash,
detectives are skeptical that the two are linked. But in detective work there is no
room for coincidences, and when common links begin to start becoming apparent, the local
force realise that they have a very well organized, smooth operation to deal with.
Fast paced, varied characters, a really tangled storyline which started unravelling
once the pieces were in place, all added to the story's interest.
I love Marion Todd. I love DI Clare Mackey and her whole team. I love the setting in Scotland. Her books are a combination of crime, drama, murder and police procedural and she gets it just right with a strong woman protagonist who is anything but perfect. Her support staff, friends and love interest add depth to the story without going off into unnecessary tangents.
One caveat - I could not put it down and read it in one sitting, neglecting sleep for resolution. Many thanks to Canelo and NetGalley for a copy.
DI Clare Mackay #7
Harry Richards, local Solicitor, found in his car, throat slit. DI Clare Mackay is on the case. She soon learns that Harry was no innocent victim. But when the wife of one of Harry's colleagues is also discovered dead in her car, Clare realises there might be something bigger at play. Can she find out who's behind the murders before they turn their attention to her?
I love catching up with Clare and her team. Clare is a relatable protagonist. This time it's not just murder her team are investigating, there's also illegal money lending. This is quite a complex read with a fast pace. There's quite a lot of humour throughout. I love Marion's writing style. She knows how to pull you in at the beginning and won't let go until the end. All the single threads were tied up nicely by the end. This was another great addition to this fantastic series.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Canelo and the author #MarionTodd for my ARC of #ABlindEye in exchange for an honest review.
Another series that keeps getting better but each story can be read as a standalone. This time Claire and her team have a dead solicitor, followed by the dead wife of one of his friends, to sort. Plenty of twists and turns. Very atmospheric of St Andrews and good characterisation. Sensible interactions between characters and enough personal life to make them rounded but thankfully without obscuring the police procedural aspects. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.
Detective Clare Mackay and her team are called to investigate a missing solicitor, Harry Richards. When a call comes through that he is found dead with his throat cut in Tentsmuir forest. The nature of his death seems to be like a gangland hit. But what would Harry Richards have done for his life to end this way? The team then investigate other incidents that all link together at the end,
A blind eye by Marion Todd is book 7 in the Clare Mackay series and what and what a great episode it is.
The story was a bit slow to start but it peters out to another intriguing and solid storyline in the lives of Clare and her teammates. This has well developed characters especially Clare, where we see her emotional side regarding the incident with her dog Benji. And enjoyed again the banter between the team. I just wondered though, does Scottish police officers only eat wagon wheels? This is a great read. 4 stars from me.
Although a bit confusing and certainly a complicated mystery, A Blind Eye is a "can't put down" thriller. Filled with twists and turns from the moment Harry Richards meets an untimely end, Clare quickly realizes what appears to be isn't necessarily what is. Built upon the foundation of the main characters from past books, even the complex characters added to this Series #7 never fail to hold your attention.
Thanks to netgalley for this arc.
When a local solicitor is found with his throat slit. DI Claire Mackay are called in to solve the case . What do they find out? Is Harry who he says he was? When a second body is found dead in similar circumstances the team need to find this killer, before the killer turns its attentions to DI Mackay. I really like this series,.great addition, proper page turner
Harry Richards, a local solicitor, is found in his car, throat slit, and DI Clare Mackay is on the case in A Blind Eye by Marion Todd.
This is the first book I've read by this author. I really like the cover. I felt this was an enjoyable and engaging read for me. It was a good crime drama. I will read more by this author.
The story had an interesting plot, and I liked the author's writing style.
I love Clare's dog, Benjy. He's a great canine character. I don't want to give anything away about the dog, but he's just so cute, and I wanted to reach through the book and give him a big hug.
I enjoyed the banter between the characters and their relationships. The story weaves the characters' personal lives with a police procedural plot. I look forward to reading more in this series and by this author.
