I thoroughly enjoyed The Girls on Chalk Hill. This procedural mystery was a fun, fast read and I enjoyed trying to solve the mystery of the missing/murdered triplets along with DI Lexie Bennett. I can honestly say that I'm looking forward to more books with Lexie Bennett in them!
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and Alison Belsham for providing me with an ARC audio of this book for my honest review.
Lexi Bennett became a detective because of what happened to her and her sisters when they were young and she's done everything to be the best she can including a trip to the US to train. But after a few years, a brutal case, and a betrayal, she is ready to come home. Unfortunately, someone else is ready for her to come too and he's been waiting a long time to finish what he started and she ruined. As pieces slowly fall into place, she realizes her new case definitely isn't a coincidence and she may be fighting for her own life as well as Paige's. With a fast pace and bits of narration from the killer, this will keep you hooked till the end!
Ohhhhh the chase was good! Great start to a new series - I'm excited for the next!
Lexi has returned to her English village hometown - her first day on the job, Lexi finds two young girls viciously murdered. Working with her team of investigators, Lexi pushes to prove herself as capable and solve this case.
Her own kidnapping is tied to the case - triplets, only two escaped. Rose haunts Lexi every day.
Will she save the missing triplet and find Rose?
Great narration - one of my favorite narrators.
This thriller was tense, taut, and incredibly compelling!
DI Lexi Bennett finds two bodies one morning while out on a run, and quickly realizes the girls are 2 of a set of triplets and the third girl is still missing. This eerily echoes what happened to Lexi as a teenager, when she and her two sisters were taken and only two got out alive. As she investigates, she begins to realize the two cases are strongly correlated, and must decide if this is a copycat or if the man who took her and her sisters is back in action.
The narration was fantastic, with the author switching between different accents and characters easily. Some chapters are narrated by the perp, and the tone the narrator used was perfectly creepy in those chapters.
The story itself was great, leaving me excited to read more of this series in the future. I loved Lexi's character and always enjoy reading about a strong female who is smart and capable. Her job is a new one, and I liked seeing her get to know her coworkers and assert herself over the course of the investigation. I liked the secondary characters as well and look forward to more of this team in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the ALC in exchange for my honest opinion.
So found yet another great detective series. Lexi was a very strong character and I was gripped and the whole story kept me going to late. The narration was brilliant.
My only negative is at the beginning of the book the descriptions were a bit too over the top, this would have annoyed me if I was reading but worked in the audio version.
All in all another brilliant author and a great series to follow
I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.
The Girls on Chalk Hill is the first in a new detective series featuring Detective Lexi Bennett, recently back in the UK following time working in The States.
I loved this slow burn thriller; so atmospheric and packed with tension which was enhanced greatly by the narrators of the audiobook. The male voice was particularly creepy and certainly got the adrenaline pumping which added considerably to the listening experience.
A real nail biter and I look forward to meeting Detective Lexi Bennett again as the series develops.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced listener copy of this book which I highly recommend.

Absolutely loved this super slow burn thriller that was so packed with tension and creepiness, I just couldn't put it down!
Lexi is back in her old town and ready to start her new post as Detective there. On her run before work, she came across two bodies, dumped and staged on Chalk Hill. Not the ideal start to her day or her new post. As details are revealed we discover the even more sinister motives behind this killing.
It's common, in this genre, for me to race through all the information we're given and try to come up with theories, motives and suspects. But with this one the pace was much slower and the plot and story were so detailed that this was the where the interest lay, rather than finding the killer as quickly as possible.
I loved this pace and style for a change. It really made this feel unique.
Lexi was such an interesting character and I feel that we've got a great insight into her personality and way of working, as well as lots of backstory too. Her personal and professional relationships were touched on here, but I definitely feel like there will be much more to develop as the series continues.
Can't wait to see what life and work holds for Lexi next - am really looking forward to book 2!
Absolutely gripping psychological crime thriller with spot on narration.
DI Lexi Bennett has just returned from the US where she has been training with the FBI in profiling suspects. Having been kidnapped together with her sisters as a teenager, she is driven by a strong personal interest in law enforcement and bringing the culprit to justice.
Before she even has chance to meet the new Major Investigations Team she will lead, Lexi stumbles upon murdered twins whilst out jogging. The similarities to what happened to her 17 years ago are striking. Can it be a coincidence? A copycat? Or has her tormentor resurfaced after all these years?
A real cat and mouse chase, partly told from the killer's POV, as Lexi fights against time to find a missing teenager and solve the murders whilst coming to terms with the demons from her past.
I couldn't put it down and I can't wait for more!
First, thank you for a audio copy of this book!
Second, the narrator is fantastic! I really enjoyed her, even down to the lisp the killer had! Perfect!
I really enjoyed this police procedural along with getting a POV of the killer every once in a while!!
This was nothing short of brilliant. I’d go as far as to say that DI Lexi Bennett is the best detective thriller/mystery I’ve read in a very long time. She captivated me, I believed her, I believed in her. The story opens with the discovery of 2 dead girls positioned in the same way, both wearing tiaras. Twins? No, because another girl is missing, the third twin. What’s most peculiar about the case is that it mimics Lexi’s own life story, as 1 of 3 abducted triplets many years before. Coincidence, copycat of the same killer? Read it and find out. You will not regret a moment of this one. I’m keen to read the next in the series. The narration was perfectly executed.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookature audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.

Detective Lexie Bennett has just begun her new job with the police department in the UK when she stumbles across the bodies of two women, their throats cut. The girls are two sisters, part of a set of triplets, and the third is missing. Finding the missing sister is imperative to Lexie, who’s still mourning the disappearance of her own sister. This is the first in a promising new series
I can’t wait for more Lexi Bennett books! I really enjoyed the audiobook. The “male” voice was a little weird but overall it was a great listen. The story kept me hooked and I love the twist with the triplets! I would recommend this to people who love police suspense novels.
3.75⭐️
This is my first intro to this author. It’s always interesting to me when I read or listen to a book that does not take place in my country.
I enjoyed this book. DI Lexi Bennett seems to be a complicated character, who has a very dark and damaging past. I’m definitely interested to see where this series is going. I can’t put my finger on why I wasn’t all in. But I’m hoping we get more in the next book.
This was GRIPPING. One of the best mystery & thrillers I’ve read in a while.
I was constantly on the edge of my seat, trying to second guess what was going to happen but I never managed to peg it. I enjoyed every single chapter and couldn’t read through quick enough as I just needed to know what was happening.
The audiobook was fab and I just sat there for hours effortlessly listening to it unravel. The story was so compelling and there was a real race against time feel which had me racing through.
It was great following Lexi, through the case of the Triplet Killer and frantic battle to save the missing girl. It was so engaging and I loved the split between her own previous experience with this killer and the here and now crime. It was great all in all and I can’t wait to see how this series develops.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the free audio book in exchange for an honest review.
This was narrated by Sofia Zervudachi and very well done! I highly recommend the audio book!
This is the start of a new series by this author, the Detective Lexi Bennett series. This is an interesting serial murder case where Detective Lexi is freshly back from spending time in the US training at Quantico for profiling. While out for her morning run, prior to her first day at her new job in the UK, she stumbles across the gruesomely staged murder of 2 young girls. Believing it to be twins, Lexi actually discovers that the girls are triplets and the race is on to find the missing sister. Lexi has to confront her past through out the investigation, much of which she does not remember.
This is a suspenseful mystery that has a couple of twists thrown in. The characters are well developed and the pacing is great. Its fast moving and very enjoyable!
Highly recommend this quick read!
Three girls....2 dead...1 missing. Lexi Bennett has to find the serial killer that took a set of triples. Moreover, the killer seems to know Lexi very well because he indicates that he's the killer that took her and her sisters 17years ago. While the killer is playing games with Lexi, she has to fight against time to save the last girl before he kills her.
This book is so good. Caught my attention as soon as I opened it. So well written. This is my first book from her but I'm definitely diving into her other books. I'm not much for series but I'm definitely going to keep my eyes out for this one!
Author Alison Belsham and her kickass protagonist, DI Lexi Bennett, have a BIG fan in me. Bennett, recently back from America after four years with the BAU, heads the investigation into the kidnapping of triplet teens. She must confront a past she doesn’t remember in order to apprehend the man responsible for the devastation caused in her town.
Belsham’s attention to detail is impeccable and her characters are well-developed. The plot, though fast-paced, was not rushed. The case that spans seventeen years will keep you guessing from page one.
I’m definitely going to keep my eye out for the next Lexi Bennet novel. The Girls on Chalk Hill is a must read or listen for those who enjoy well-written crime thrillers.
Sofia Zervudachi offers listeners excellent narration which enhances an already enthralling story.
Thank you Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for providing this ALC in return for an honest review.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the audioARC The Girls on Chalk Hill.
This was a great audiobook. The storyline is exciting and hooks you from the first chapter. This book would make a fantastic netflix/hulu/apple+ series. I am looking forward to reading more Lexi Bennett books.
Thank you NetGalley for this audio ARC. WOW. I don't know how to put into words how amazing this book was done. I was on my seat the whole time and loved that the chapters bounced between the detective and killer. A MUST READ.
This is an interesting book. The detective is a triplet who was kidnapped much like the girls in the story. It becomes pretty obvious the killer is only using the girls to get to Lexi. While the book overall wasn't bad, I just feel like all of these series are running together. It may be time for me to stop reading them. The narrator was good!
