Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I definitely loved the smut, which made this a very easy read. However, I would have loved more character and plot development.

I had an opportunity to read Filthy Desires by R.M. Grey in return for my honest review. I loved this book. It did not take the turn I expected but it was a pleasant surprise. The incident in the club and the incident with the doctor had me a tad worried for the outcome but I'm glad it turned out the way it did. The only bad thing I can think of is the book was too short. I want to know what will happen to the main characters next.

Mostly sex. Very little to the actual story. I wanted to like the characters but even from the beginning they were not enjoyable.

This was a quick and fun read before I went to bed.

Reese was looking to have a fun night that would end there but little did she know it would end up being more. Lucas shows up in her class a few weeks later. They both can’t stop thinking about each other and get enough of each other.

It was funny how Reese drove Lucas crazy after their dinner date. I could imagine how unhinged he was. Obviously something he’s not used to.

Lots of spicy scenes in the book. I’m not a fan of the “yes daddy” reference. I did like how “sir” was mentioned and I wish it kept that tone but that’s just my preference. I do have a praise kink and enjoyed how Lucas praised her a lot in the book. Lucas really did want to make her feel confident and beautiful about herself.

Thank you to NetGalley for the EARC! As always, my review is my opinion and thoughts.

Filthy Desires is book 2 in the Professors of Westview University series by R.M. Grey.
After reading the second book I’m definitely going back to read book one on Kindle Unlimited.
I loved this smutty, spicy and very entertaining story.
The characters were truly amazing and kept me wanting more.
I can’t wait to open the first book up.

Dnf'd at 19%.

Unfortunately the writing was not great and felt very jarring between scenes. Normally with a book this short, I'd just push through and finish it, but I didn't even enjoy the erotica as written. I enjoy taboo romance and billionaire playboy smut as much as the next person, but this just wasn't it for me.

A hot and steamy Cinderalla story with a college student/visiting professor twist. This is a quick read and it is all about the steam, however, the plot is pretty decent as well. For those of you who need trigger warnings, there is a couple of instances where the damsels in distress need to be rescued from assault situations, but the story ends with a happily ever after. The steam is well written and hot, hot, hot! Quite a bit of angst and overcoming body image issues, but that enhances the storyline and while it isn't delved into deeply, it does bring the plot together more.

Really short book - the length and writing/grammatical errors made this seem more like a college literary class writing assignment then a novel. It wasn't even proofread for writing errors. I love the slowburn and this book just jumped right into the hanky panky within the first 10 pages. I wish it had more character growth and had a slowburn not "Reece getting ready in the first 2 pages, then they're dancing at a club and called to VIP page 5 and already screwing/domination page 10" The writing was just a little too beginner for me.

It’s not often I don’t finish a Netgalley book. Even if I don’t love a book I try and find some strengths for feedback or provide specific rationale about what would have worked better for me.

In this case I just can’t. I couldn’t finish the book on this occasion despite my best efforts. I wanted to DNF at around 15% and pushed through but had to finish at around 60% as it just didn’t get any better. And that was with skimming.

I’m all for spice, steam and erotica but there has to be some semblance of a story line. Even just a little one if balanced by well written steam. This book went from there being a young college student in a club, to sleeping with the owner within about 10 minutes of arriving there. He also happens to be a professor at the college. There’s a drugged friend by the professors half brother, and then an attempted rape of the FMC by the doctor who treated the friend. Then the friend hooks up with one of the club’s employees. Too much, and so loosely tied together it just didn’t work.

Then - the characters. Both main characters were flat and the dialogue between them was stilted and wooden. There was zero chemistry which made the sex scenes (and there were plenty) very beige. They lacked passion and intensity. And can I say in 2023 for two strangers meeting do we really have to stomach the forgot the Condom conversation because someone got carried away? And don’t get me started on the cringey nicknames - Kitten for her, and she called him Sir (can live with that) and then Daddy (insert eye roll here)

Over and out.

About the content

School’s my priority. All I do is eat, sleep, and study. My best friend says I need to loosen up and live a little. So I did.
I had one passionate night with billionaire playboy, Lucas Blessington. He’s tall, rich, and handsome, and can get any girl he wants. I’m just another woman that he can add to his long list of one night stands.
When he walks into my class and announces that he is the guest professor for the rest of the semester, I want to hide. Little did I know he did his research on me and managed a way back to his alma mater, Westview University, to continue where we left off from our night together.
I don’t know what’s riskier: having sex with my professor or having sex with a billionaire playboy? Either way, I’m risking my future and will have my heart broken by him anyway.

My opinion

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

2nd book of the „Professors of Westview University“-series.
(Can be read without prior knowledge.)

Reece’s focus is on her studies, but her Melissa, her friend, persuades her to go out. After arriving at the club, they are invited to the VIP area and make the acquaintance of Lucas. A businessman whom Reece has had her eye on for some time due to her studies. But there is no conversation for a long time, because the sexual attraction is so great that the two have to relieve themselves immediately. Reece thinks it’s a one-night stand, because Lucas is way out of her league. Too bad he doesn’t seem to see it that way, and ends up showing up as a visiting professor in one of their majors….
Reece makes a likeable impression and she doesn’t let anyone get her down. Not even by Lucas.
What she found unfortunate about her is that Reece always says that she’s not one of those women who are easily wrapped around her finger, but with Lucas she’s at the forefront.

Lucas is delighted when the beautiful stranger and her friend find their way to the VIP area, but when she asks him business questions, it’s almost over for him. After sex, she disappears and he is forced to search for the unknown. Stalking her and showing up as a teacher in one of her classes, getting to know her better and getting close to her again….
I liked Lucas quite quickly, but his attitude, which he displays from time to time, was annoying.

The writing style is kept simple and easy, so that you can read the story without comprehension difficulties. The story is dual POV (Reece and Lucas), which gives a good insight into the respective emotional and mental world.

The small subplot around Melissa, Carter and Damien I found successful, also because it may have given a small hint of a future couple. But I also have to say that the topic remained a bit too superficial for me. After a few more blows, everything is fine and there are no further consequences?
Otherwise, the book was a bit too superficial and too predictable in terms of plot.
The focus was too much on the sex games for my taste and not enough on Lucas and Reece as a couple.
All in all a nice book for in between.

Meh. There is nothing integrally wrong with this book but then there is nothing particularly great about it either.

When college student Reese - out on the town with her bestie - is 'summoned' to the VIP room of a club she lays eyes on notorious billionaire and successful businessman/playboy - Lucas.

Minutes later she is on her back in his office. He just so happens to own the club...yawn. So far so classless.

The potential was certainly there but it is short - blink and it's over - and allows for zero character development or any form of examination of the issues touched upon. There are potential triggers here.

Shame it could have been more.

It is certainly smutty and that's fine with me (!) but I kinda found my eye rolling out of control from the moment she uttered the words 'Daddy' completely unprompted. all I could think was Yuck!

Particularly with her issues

Ivy Smoak did it SO much better in the Hunter series with not a Daddy word in sight thank god.

3 stars because there's nothing integrally bad, no more because it's not integrally good either.

This book was okay for me. Pros: it was a quick read. was able to read it in a couple of hours.
It is a typical billionaire scene. I felt if the author gave a little more plot to build up the characters and the scenes this book could be alot more. I love reading a book where you feel like you know characters. That connection makes me love or just like a book. In this case it was alright. If you’re wanting a quick read this might be the one for you. The characters would get straight to business with no build up. I personally like the build up moments in books.

Love love loved this book. Such a great quick read. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author because it was so good. Will look for the other books in the series but this can be read as a stand alone book.

dnf @ 17% (after chapter 1)

This book is so short that normally I would just finish it, but the writing is so bad, and I am not having a good time.

The premise sounded fun--the typical billionaire bdsm romance but the billionaire also happens to be your professor? I was down to be entertained.

<spoiler>But just like the mmc keeps cramming his 🍆 into the fmc without warning or foreplay 🫣</spoiler>, the writing is abrupt and uncomfortable. At times it is unnecessarily descriptive, yet there is little-to-no prelude to action. It is kind of hilarious--at one point The Billionaire, Lucas Blessington (😬), sees the fmc Reese dancing with her friend at his club and demands she come sit with him in VIP. Reese has never met this man before, but she knows who he is because coincidentally she’s writing her thesis about him. With NO lead up, moments after they’ve exchanged introductions, Reese thinks “Enough small talk” and begins interrogating him about his business. About five seconds after that, Lucas commands Reese to dance with him—and he turns out to be a terrible dancer 😆 Like, what did I even read?

The spicy scene I read was cliched and not all that spicy (imo; to each their own). This book could be fun to read with a friend for a laugh, but it's a miss for me.

Conclusion: 1 star
Star Criteria:
1: Is the book engaging/enjoyable/entertaining? Potentially—but not in an intentional way.
2: Is the book creative? No.
3: Does the book offer educational value? No.
4: Does the book highlight voices traditionally underrepresented in literature? Not that I can tell.
5: Does the book challenge existing literary norms and tropes? Not that I saw.

Filthy Desires is defiantly a filthy read.
Written by R.M. Grey, Filthy Desires is a romance novel that follows Reese and Lucas, one a goal-orientated college student, the other a billionaire playboy. The couple meet in the VIP section of a nightclub, the encounter leading to a steamy hook up and the start of something more.
The book, while containing plenty of steamy scene between the two main characters seemed to barely touch the surface in regard to the plot built. As a reader I would have appreciated the plot to be further constructed and utilized to create depth within the novel. It was a good plot line, however it felt overshadowed by the other elements. I would have loved to have been provided with the opportunity to learn more about the characters, as the challenges they faced where pretty serious and felt seemingly brushed over.
Overall, this book is a good steamy read, and perfect for when you just want to read something hot, however for readers wanting more of a plot mixed in with the steam I would suggest possibly looking elsewhere.

Reviews can be so subjective. What might be your cup of tea might not be mine. I feel as if that is the case with Filthy Desires. It has so much potential, and for all my smutty #booktok readers, the spice was fun to read. A quick read that leans heavy on the va-va-va-voom and very little on plot, story, or character development. And sometimes this is exactly what readers are looking for - although, I was left unsatisfied.

Here's where my issues began, Reece, the MFC, starts off giving major boss babe vibes and even declares isn't going to get on her knees for Lucas like she's sure all other fawning females are doing. I mean who wouldn't be attracted to a handsome, rich club owner who is always in the limelight? (Can you see the lacking uniqueness storyline emerging?)

Well, after her declaration, can you guess what happens next? That's right! Reece finds herself quickly, and without any wooing whatsoever, succumbing to the sexy aurora Lucas is throwing down. Just like she said she'd never do.

While there are a few TW to mention: teacher/student, sexual assault, drugging, victimization - to name a few; not much time is spent on making the reader experience the inner turmoil of the characters in response. As a matter of fact, there's a ton of telling and not showing.

There was one scene where I believe the author wanted us to giggle, but instead, it actually flipped my "Oh, I kinda like Lucas" to "Nope. He ain't my type at all."

When Lucas invited Reece to dinner at his place, she assumed Lucas was planning to cook for her...here's Lucas' response: "I don't cook, sweetheart. I pay people for that." I wonder if Grey wanted the readers to hate Lucas, because damn, what a pompous ass.

I also felt like some scenes would have been better told from the other POV - Like the "Did your parents help you?" scene told from Lucas' POV. It seemed like his reactions would have been better experienced through Reece's eyes.

If you want a fast, fun, somewhat spicy read - pick this one up. If you need something with a bit more substance, this one might not be for you.

**This is book 2 in the Professors of Westview University series, but can be read as a standalone.

Good smut, and a good story line! I loved that the fmc is curvy. I found some of the wording to be a little bit awkward, but not much! Quick, fun read. My reason for 3 stars is because, although I love smut, some of the stuff in this book just wasnt for me.

If you’re wanting for steamy scenes look no farther! Writing flowed easily. An enjoyable read.

Quick read...This one pretty much hovers on the line of smut vs. erotica, so tread carefully if you are picking it up. With that said, I feel like ths scenes are very hot and really great if that is what you are looking for. I just happened to be looking for a book with more plot when I picked this one up. Overall, I probably wouldn't read more in this series, but I would read more from the author if there was a series with more depth!

One of the hottest books I've read in a while

I can't explain how much I loved reading this book. It was amazing and steamy and took me on an emotional roller coaster because of what happened to both Melissa and Reese and Lucas. I wish there was more insight on what happened during the months Lucas and Reese weren't together, I wanted to know specifically what they were doing, how they were feeling, etc. Overall I loved it and would read again.

5/5 stars
