This is the 1st book in the “Eagle Mountain Critical Response Series.” This is my first time reading a book Cindi Myers and I do have plans to read the remaining book in this series. This is an entertaining fast-paced, easy quick, that has its share of drama, action packed, page turning adventure, danger, deception, mystery, mayhem, suspenseful, intriguing, deception, twists, turns, amnesia victim, escaped convict, murder, great characters and plot a that held me captive turning page after page. Grace finds a naked man, injury, freezing, with no memory and left for dead. As days and week pass, Declan who Grace found left for dead is gaining his memory and his reason for being at Dixon Pass. As Declan and Grace getting closer in the romance department they are also in danger as the convict is still on the loose. With Declan and Grace working together they must solve the mystery of what is going on at Dixon Pass.
Who is responsible for Declan’s memory loss and being left for dead, with Grace and Declan working together will they be able to find the murderer and is there an HEA in store for Declan and Grace?
I received an ARC via NetGalley and Harlequin Romance and I am leaving my review voluntarily.
Left for dead in a snowstorm, Declan can’t remember what’s brought him there when he’s rescued by scientist Grace. But he knows he’ll have to be quick if he’s going to be able to catch a serial killer who’s slipped through his fingers once already.
Harlequin romances are my comfort reads, but I haven’t explored much of the Intrigue imprint, which publishes romantic suspense. This seemed like a fun book to try out due to the central mystery – a nameless man who looms out of a snowstorm, on the trail of a killer he can’t remember.
The premise is not quite delivered on – Declan remembers who he is and what’s going on fairly quickly – but I found myself being swept up by the mystery all the same. I enjoyed the lyrical writing and the close connection that Grace has with the natural world, and the small town setting. The mystery was a compelling one, and I found myself being thrown off the trail several times, which made every twist and turn of the story only that much more nail-biting.
However, I felt like the character of Declan was a little bland. While I enjoyed the dynamic between him and Grace, he did feel more underdeveloped in contrast to her. I believed in the romance between them, but I didn’t believe that they were in love already by the end of the book. The black moment also came out of nowhere a
In Cindi Myers' Deception at Dixon Pass (Eagle Mountain: Critical Response #1), Search-and-Rescue volunteer Grace Wilcox saves an injured amnesiac and helps him recover his memory and pursue a serial killer, along the way they find love. Meyer dives right into the action with vivid description, well-constructed action sequences, fast pacing, and deftly developed, complex, and likable characters that draw readers into her intriguing and multilayered story and keep them glued to the pages.
Grace finds an injured man left for dead in a Colorado snowstorm who can’t remember who he is or why he’s on Eagle Mountain in the first place. She guides him through the snow to help him trace his steps, and they discover bloody footprints near a crime scene that triggers his memory of deception and his pursuit of a murderer. He regains some of his memory overnight.
The injured stranger is Deputy US Marshal Declan Owens, who’s been on the trail of a dangerous serial killer for some time. Grace helps Declan discover what happened at the Dixon Pass crime scene and who he's pursuing. Grace and amnesiac Declan must rely on each other to survive before a calculating, ruthless, and desperate killer tries to murder again, starting with Grace.
Intelligent, beautiful, capable, kind, vulnerable, and haunted by a traumatic past, Grace is a solitary scientist who collects data and information on weather patterns and lives in her grandfather’s cabin. She has a five-month gap in her memory from an accident in her childhood that haunts her because she doesn’t remember anything from the crash or that time.
Stubborn, driven, capable, sharp, and struggling to regain his memory, Declan is determined to catch the serial killer who left him for dead before he can kill anyone else. Declan believes he’s still in Eagle Mountain planning his next kill—even if no one else does.
Grace and Declan share an intense attraction and deep connection that Myers develops from strangers to friends to lovers through intensely emotional, intimate, steamy, and sexy interactions and love scenes. They bond over shared pain and experiences from their childhood.
Deception at Dixon Pass is a suspenseful, mysterious, emotional, steamy read that explores themes of amnesia/memory loss, toxic parents, self-esteem, grief, second chances, belonging, acceptance, and healing and recovery.

Grace discovers an injured man seemingly left for dead He's during a snowstorm with little memory of what happened. But it is clear that something happened when a crime team is found and slowly things are coming back to Declan is the one thing he does remember was that he was tracking a escaped killer before he strikes again.
This was such an enjoyable book I really like following along as they try to keep safe and find the escaped killer. Declan is also dealing with a head injury so now his jobs at Jeopardy but he is still on a mission to find that killer I enjoyed getting to know the characters and how suspenseful the book is. Overall great book I really enjoyed it.
Whew! Having a naked and injured man appear out of a blinding snowstorm is one heck of an opening. Grace was returning from a search and rescue call when the man appeared a short distance from her cabin. After she gets him to her home and treats his injuries, she discovers he can't remember who he is or what happened to him. His memory mostly returns the following day, but the events leading up to Grace finding him are frustratingly elusive. Meanwhile, his car was found abandoned on the side of the road with a murdered woman in the backseat and his gun on the floor. Needless to say, the Eagle Mountain sheriff's office is suspicious of his story.
Grace is an environmental scientist who lives and works in a remote cabin outside town. Declan makes quite an impression on her, and she is reluctant to believe the suspicions about him. She is particularly empathetic to his memory loss as a victim of a similar experience. Her instincts tell her that he is a victim, not a perpetrator. I liked her willingness to help him.
Declan remembers enough to know he was tracking an escaped serial killer, an action deeply personal for him. I understood his determination, considering the circumstances of Barclay's escape. That he is doing so against orders makes no difference to him.
The suspense of this story kept me glued to the pages from start to finish. Declan is positive that Bradley is in Eagle Mountain, but the man's ability to blend in makes it difficult to identify him. I liked Grace's willingness to help him, and Declan even had Gage convinced. The suspense built as two likely suspects were identified, but nothing could be done without proof. The author kept me guessing to the end, finishing with a final confrontation that could have ended badly. I loved Grace's ability to think and act under pressure and the difference it made for her and Declan's survival.
I also enjoyed the development of the relationship between Declan and Grace. There was a connection between them from the moment Grace found him in that blizzard. Her experience with amnesia made her especially empathetic to what he was going through. Added to that connection was an attraction that neither could deny. Both are loners - Grace because of her work and the trauma she endured as a child, and Declan because he has been focused on chasing Bradley for five years. I loved seeing them open up with each other and share their deepest fears and feelings. I loved Declan's look into Grace's past and what he found out about the events that haunt her. I loved the ending and seeing the changes in store for them.
This was a great start to the new series, and I can't wait to see what is next in store for the people of Eagle Mountain.
Action!
I enjoyed this book, lots of action, fast-moving and romantic equals. When Declan turns up at Grace’s remote cabin, naked, hurt and freezing, without his memory, she takes him in. Over the next few weeks, his identity returns, his purpose for being on Eagle Mountain is clear, and the danger begins.
Both Grace and Declan are professionals in their fields, and I liked that synergy better than a helpless woman trope. The story moved along nicely and all ends were tied up.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
Deception at Dixon Pass is the first book in the Eagle Mountain: Critical Response series. It has action, suspense and danger. The wonderful characters pull you in and keeps you captivated until the end. I can't wait to read the next book.
Engaging and fast-paced romantic suspense. Not exactly a meet cute, but quite the introduction to one another. Interesting back stories. I am thrilled to see it is the first of a series. I am eagerly awaiting the next one. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Search and rescue called off, driving home in the blinding snow and a naked man steps out. Caught my attention! Twists, turns, and characters to care about. Some I would like to know more of. I did feel like there was a prequel I might have missed with the existing law enforcement brothers. It did not detract, just left the whip cream off the pie. There is amnesia but handled in a realistic way, not just as a ploy for plot, which I really appreciate. Even better this is book 1 in a 4 book series. Yes! Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #DeceptionAtDixonPass #CindiMyers #Harlequin #NetGalley

Amnesia, an escaped convict, search and rescue, and more. An engaging and entertaining winding tale of mystery. I enjoyed trying to piece things together. There were some great side characters too. There were a couple steamy scenes.
