this book was absolutely amazing! i loved all of the characters and the love story and everything about this!! will definitely be picking up all of her future books and reread this book in the future!!
First of all, thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was super cute and easy to digest. Aly's parents and Hudson were utterly vile. Really liked the friendship between Aly and her brother's dog Pretzel. Levi was really sweet, but lying makes me uncomfortable, if it's lying by omission.
Feel like there was maybe something going on between Emma and Adam. The ending felt really rushed and I feel as though a lot of the issues were left unresolved, like with Aly's parents.
I did enjoy the book though and would recommenif you want a sweet closed door romance with a bit of family drama.
Dear Adam was my first novel from Kelsey Whitney and it was such a cute read. I grew to love the characters as their relationship grew. I definitely loved the puppy love in this book, such a unique touch to the novel. I absolutely adored them. A quick, sweet read.
𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲: Special thanks to Kelsey Whitney for providing me an ARC copy to share my honest review.
Thank you as always to the publisher for the chance to read the arc of this book, in exchange on an honest review.
And because I have to be sincere, this story didn't "click" with me.
Probably the author's writing style is not for me... I just couldn't pay the needed attention to the story and I was looking forward just the end of it, and that's not good. I didn't fall in love with the character, either.
A real pity.
Short Synopsis: Aly has had a crush on Levi (her twin brother Adam’s best friend) since high school. When Adam get in a car accident leaving him in a coma, Aly texts him updates for when he wakes up. But Levi has Adams phone, and is getting the messages.
My thoughts: This was a cute sweet rom- com with adorable doggy sidekicks. I think Pretzel and Hank added some great humor to an otherwise sad book with Adam being in the hospital.
I liked the dynamic between Aly and Levi and loved that this book had both perspectives as we watch them each admit feelings for each other.
There were some great side characters, but Aly’s parents and Hudson were equally horrible and I kind of wished they’d all play in traffic together.
Read if you love:
- Home renovation projects
- Small businesses
- Doggy sidekicks
- Twin Brothers best friend
- Childhood crushes
- Closed door romance
This was ok, I powered through the last bit because it was very slow for my liking. While it was not for me it could be for you

Thank you to NetGalley, and Kelsey Whitney for this ARC!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
*Reviewed on NetGalley and Goodreads.
This was a cute romcom and I liked the “brother’s friend” aspect. I felt filled with southern charm but it felt a little cheesy and silly and times? Also, I wanted to see a bit more to Aly as a character and that felt a little rushed to me.
A super sweet, closed-door romance full of Southern charm. With brother's best friend and "forbidden" romance tropes - this one was a lovely read that felt like a warm hug. I loved that the FMC owned a flower shop and the Charleston location references were enough for me to pick up on (being from Michigan) - so I'm sure people more familiar with the area would enjoy them.
Overall the side characters are also well developed. I absolutely loathed the twins' parents - which was probably the point - but it felt almost unbelievable how truly awful they were. The misunderstanding at the end was slightly disappointing, just in its predictability. But overall, this was a well done book that flows really nicely.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kelsey Whitney for the copy of this book to read and review (all thoughts are my own).
Dear Adam by Kelsey Whitney is a heartwarming and engaging novel that explores the bond between two best friends, Aly and Adam Bloomington. Being twins, their connection has always been strong, but when circumstances force them apart, their friendship takes an unexpected turn. The story begins with Adam's departure to California, leaving behind his mischievous dachshund, Pretzel, in Aly's care. As Adam reconnects with an old friend, Aly is left to navigate their lives without her inseparable twin. However, everything changes when Adam introduces Aly to his childhood best friend, Levi, through a FaceTime call. Aly is taken aback by the transformation of the scrawny boy she once knew into a handsome and mysterious man. Memories of her childhood crush resurface, and she finds herself drawn to the enigma Adam has become during their decade of separation. Tragedy strikes when Adam is involved in a devastating car accident, plunging him into a coma. Aly, grappling with the absence of her closest confidant, decides to share the events and experiences that Adam is missing by sending him heartfelt text messages. Through these messages, she paints a vivid picture of their lives, giving Adam a connection to the world he left behind. However, Aly encounters an unexpected obstacle when she realizes that Adam's phone is missing, putting their only line of communication in jeopardy. Kelsey Whitney masterfully crafts a narrative that seamlessly blends friendship, love, and the power of human connection. The character development is exceptional, with Aly's strength and resilience shining through as she copes with the challenges life throws at her. The chemistry between Aly, Adam, and Levi is palpable, creating a compelling dynamic that keeps readers captivated. "Dear Adam" delves deep into the exploration of personal growth, the transformative power of friendship, and the resilience of the human spirit. Whitney's writing style is both engaging and emotive, allowing readers to truly connect with the characters and their journeys. The plot is well-paced, with unexpected twists and turns that keep readers eagerly turning the pages to uncover the truth behind Adam's accident and the mystery of his missing phone. Overall, "Dear Adam" is a touching and thought-provoking novel that tugs at the heartstrings, reminding us of the importance of cherishing the bonds we have with our loved ones. It is a testament to the enduring power of friendship and the lengths we are willing to go to keep those connections alive. Kelsey Whitney has created a remarkable story that will resonate with readers long after they turn the final page.
Quick and cute brother's best friend romance, yet nothing too much sticks out to write about. Quite an average book for an avid romance reader.
This book was super cute and funny! I enjoyed reading it and I’m glad that I had the opportunity to read it.
Dear Adam is a quick & cute brother’s best friend rom-com told through dual POV! I need to read more in this trope.
Aly and Adam, twins who always had each other’s back. Adam gets involved in a car accident when visiting his best friend Levi which leaves him in a coma. Not having her other half, her best friend, right there beside her; Aly’s world gets turned upside down. As a means of coping & staying in touch, Aly starts texting Adam’s number with all her daily updates, so he doesn’t miss on anything. Unbeknownst to her, someone else has possession of Adam’s phone. Someone not Adam is reading all those personal messages she is sending.
A fluffy tingling entertaining read. The romance in this one was so sweet and cute. A read guaranteed to leave you smiling, with the flutters, & feeling good.
I adored witnessing Aly and Levi’s relationship progressing and those secret long felt feelings being materialized and vocalized. You can’t help yourself but to root for them and fall in love with the idea of them finally getting together. These two were the cutest in the most adorable way possible. Additionally, it was great seeing Aly grow into herself; stronger and take a stand for herself amid her family messed up dynamics.
The emotional elements mingled with the funny moments and playful banter kept the mood of this read light and bingeable. Kelsey has a sweet, enjoyable, low key, and entrancing writing style. Traits that for sure will keep me coming back for more.
The puppy shenanigans & antics were hilarious. They seriously took supporting characters to a whole new level of amazing. Sidekick pups. Kelsey did a splendid job in having them leave such a strong & lasting imprint. Just imagining Pretzel with her “goggles” sitting there on the bike, never fails to crack me up.
The only thing that I felt I needed more of is Adam. More about Adam. More of Adam. I am aware he is not the main character here. But funny you make me bring this point up. So Adam and Emma! Am I reading too much into this? Imaging stuff? I smell something & something gooood. Was she secretly visiting him in the hospital? Spending her nights right at his bedside? Talking … Okay fine I’ll shut up. Hoping we get this story!🤞🏻
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The storyline and characters were so authentic and felt so real. The character development was wonderful. Love a good brothers best friend romance.
This book is the perfect romantic comedy! I had never read a brothers bestfriend trope before, but I absolutely loved it! This book had me laughing out loud multiple times! If you are looking for an incredible and clean romantic comedy, this book is perfect!
Romance was really cute, I was definitely rooting for this couple. I wish that the book hadn’t ended so soon after they got together.
This book was so highly rated, I think it affected my views of it. Because it was just okay to me. It was your typical romcom
A rom com with a bit of a punch. Fraternal twins Adam and Aly have been best friends since birth! It has been them against their narcissistic parents from the start, but when Adam and his best friend Levi are in an accident that leaves Adam in a coma, Aly is forced to struggle her way through life without her twin. Add in that her crush on Levi comes back front and center like a flood and the fun is on full tilt! Witty banter, hilarious dog antics and lots of misunderstandings create ample angst to make this story a fun read for a relaxing afternoon!
Thank you to Netgalley and the author for the ARC.
🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5 stars
Dear Adam is a sweet, quick romance with a tinge of sadness. Aly and Adam are best friends and twins. When Adam travels to California for work and to visit his (hot) friend, he introduces said friend to Aly over FaceTime. Then Adam is in a terrible car accident and in a coma. Aly, trying to cope, decides to text him everything that is happening so he can catch up when he is awake. However, Adam’s phone is not where she thinks it is.
This was such a heartwarming romance with plenty of humor and plenty of angst. I loved the characters, especially the dog, Pretzel. Overall, Dear Adam is a fast-paced read with a ton of heart.
