I loved this book! It is sweet and FUNNY! If you love the brothers best friend trope, you will love this one. It’s the perfect lazy afternoon escape.
Typically I love brother's best friend tropes in romance novels. This one had an unexpected twist with the brother (Adam) being in a coma. I liked the two main characters and the dog (Pretzel!), but the spice level was practically nonexistent.
Oh my gosh, this was such a fun and sweet rom com! There were so many times I laughed out loud (mostly from the dogs). I loved both the MCs and the small town setting. The dogs definitely stole the show on this one and I loved it!! This book is perfect for fans of Sarah Adams.
3.5 stars
i really liked the synopsis and the story definitely delivers, it just felt like it was missing that little *something*
while I usually enjoy tropes and quirkiness, I felt like this one was just a bit too forced, I wish we got to see Aly’s personality build up a bit more instead of being thrown everything in one go. I think everyone was trying too hard to be different it just felt the same. I’m bad at picking up if an authors showing or telling, but I have a feeling there was a *lot* more telling than showing here
the whole texting this was also not fleshed out at all, I loved that premise and I do wish it was explored more and had more nuance to the overall plot. it reminded me of mr wrong number, it’s hard to compared the two, but this wasn’t executed as well. like Aly saying it was betrayal and it hurt her over and over again isn’t really convincing me. TELL ME WHY ALY
the pacing was a bit weird at the end, maybe it’s just me taking a short break in the middle but I swear we went from semi flirting straight to confessions and dating within a chapter and the unavoidable breakup that every romance be seems to have at 80% of the way in, then suddenly life decisions happen and what the heck happened and boom, the I love yous. the WHIPLASH. I did really like the start of the book, I binged about a good third of it in one sitting, it was just the ending that was wild
this book vaguely gives me the cheat sheet vibes, so if you liked that book, i would definitely recommend this one! I did rate the cheat sheet the same 3.5 stars as this too because it just wasn’t my vibe (I know lots of people don’t mind it but adult books with childlike writing just isn’t my thing, and unlike genres, it’s hard to know if a book has it until you’re into it) but that doesn’t mean it’s not someone else’s vibe
overall I don’t want this to be or sound like a bad review, because it wasn’t an unpleasant reading experience (and trust me, I’ve had those and this is definitely not that), it just wasn’t fleshed out enough to be a standout read, but definitely something fluffy to enjoy when you don’t want to think too hard
I thought this was such a cute story! I am a sucker for brothers best friend trope. I really liked both Aly and Levi. I thought they fit really good together! I am glad they finally get together, after crushing on one another for years. If you’re a fan of clean romance, second chances, and dual POV, you will love this book. This is such a quick and sweet read. If you’re looking for a quick romcom to read, I highly recommend checking this one out!
Thank you Netgalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
I really thought I’d like this book… unfortunately that was a bit over optimistic.
It was okay. I enjoyed the premise and the characters. The writing however was way too overdramatic. I expect a level of chaos and comedy in most romance! This crossed the line to straight up unbelievable. Within the first chapter it turned a corner from being silly but relatable to an absolute caricature of romcom scenes (Just one example. A year old wiener dog has a full-on calculated battle-of-wits-stare-down with a man presumably in his 60’s wielding a golf club) I’ll accept that this level of wacky and zany humor can on occasion be pulled off, in the case of this book though it’s not. Many many moments were presented far too seriously for how ridiculous they were.
I did manage to finish this, and I think with some more stringent editing there was potential to it. Again, I liked the overall outline and idea just not the execution. I didn’t hate this and would be willing to give the author another go, but I won’t be recommending this one.
Thanks to NatGalley for the chance to read an early copy in exchange for an honest review!
This was my first book by Kelsie and I really wanted to like it but sadly, that wasn't the case. I'm afraid I won't continue reading Kelsie's books, at least not anytime soon.
This book follows Emerick who is close to failing his senior year, unless he takes up extra work, and Nora, who is the student body president. Emerick is then tasked to become the person behind the advice column at their high school's newspaper while keeping his identity a secret.
The premise was so cute that couldn't wait another second to start it but all I can say is that it could've been tackled better. I didn't feel like there was chemistry between Emerick and Nora at all. If there was, I didn't believe it for a second.
Overall, this felt like a book I've read many, many times before. It was predictable and sometimes things happened do out of nowhere that it came across as confusing rather than plot twisty. The only thing that stood out to me was the diversity representation but even that was minimal.
What angered me to no end was the fact that Emerick was referred to 'the bad boy' and honestly, he was the complete opposite. (There's nothing wrong with that but it's just annoying when the author is trying to pass off their characters as someone they're clearly not.) I just kept reading 'bad boy this' and 'bad boy that' without anything in the story to back that title. It sounded juvenile and tell-y which honestly, that was the worst recurring problem within this book. There were TONS of telling but rarely any showing, if at all.
The only reason this wasn't a one star was because the characters had me laughing a few times. Other than that, wasn't into it enough to care about what happened to the characters.
Cute romance. Nice pace. Funny characters. Liked how much the fmc grew along the book . An easy read for a sunday read.
I really enjoyed this closed door rom-com! I loved the premise of the story which involves two twin siblings, one of which gets into an accident and ends up in a coma. Adam’s sister, Aly decides she wants to keep him updated with everything going on in her life, so she sends texts to his phone while he is in a coma. I love the way the author incorporates this in a way that isn’t glum or sad, but instead the whole story is very light-hearted. I also really enjoyed the way the author incorporated the brothers best friend trope and I think it was done very well. This is a great story with lovable characters, funny moments, and an unforgettable love story!
A clever and witty romcom with a guaranteed HEA.
Such a page turner.
I loved the cosy vibe and good character development.
Often with romance books it can feel like it follows a particular pattern but this was fresh and exciting
I rated this a 3.5! I loved the idea of this book and I loved the characters! I feel like I just wish it would have gotten deeper. I wanted more intense conversations between the two main characters and more resolution with the parents!
Omg this was absolutely one of the best romcoms I’ve read in a while! I read it so fast and loved every minute of it. This just gives cozy romantic comedy “movie” vibes and I’m here for it.
The main characters are likeable and loveable, the character development is great. The whole story premise is amazing, it reminds me of the best romance tropes i love and it’s all done so well. I was laughing so much throughout the whole book and I just love when a book makes me so happy.
I loved the pups and their inclusion in the story, that made me love it even more. Plus Glenda is an absolute legend, looooove her.
If you’re reading a book this summer, “Dear Adam” by Kelsey Whitney needs to be your next pick!
Honestly I was ready to cry when I read the blurb, the connection between brothers is very strong and more so with twin siblings, so when I read that Ali wrote messages to his brother in a coma I expected a book with a bit more suffering and tears but it has a very light tone about it and although I could feel Ali's pain I also had a lot of fun with her positive side that looks for the bright side of things
.
Levi is Adam's best friend and after the accident he ends up with Adam's phone among his belongings and when Ali's messages start to arrive he tries to do the right thing and not read them but Ali is his childhood crush and he hasn't seen her for years . Giving in to his impulse ends up going back to her parents' house to be close to Ali and Adam but the phone in his pocket is burning his conscience and being close to Ali all the stored feelings begin to blossom
.
Who doesn't love a hero who falls first?... Levi is perfect for Ali and I like the dynamic between them, their love story. My only complaint, there was so much more that I wanted to read minute by minute and not after it happened. Especially that stroke on the head, the slow burn was so good that I was dying to read that scene happening instead of the character remembering it
.
I truly enjoyed reading this lovely romance and I'll be looking forward to more books by Kelsey P Whitney
.
Thanks to Kelsey P Whitney for give me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest and voluntary opinion
This charming RomCom is an absolute delight! It's a quick read that had me laughing, shedding a few tears, and feeling warm inside. From Ali's endearing bond with her twin brother to the hilarious doggy antics, every moment was pure joy. The connection between Ali and Levi was heartwarming, and I couldn't help but root for them. This book left me with a feeling the feels and I rated it 5 stars
Brother’s best friend? A rowdy wiener dog? Parents who are set on matchmaking the “golden boy” for nothing other than status? I mean come on, it’s magic.
I had a soft spot for Aly from the start and she’s a character you can’t help but root for and cheer on throughout the story. A slow-burn romance that holds all the rom-com goodness. This is set with adventure, heartbreak, and laugh out loud moments.
I love a good he gets the girl moment but there were a few things left undone that I needed closure on. Hudson? Ugh can you hate a character more? What happened to him? The hinting of the best friend and brother? Come on, give the people what we want and tell their story! This wrapped up rather quickly in the perfect little romcom bow yet left me questioning some loose ends. Still a satisfying ends and the feel good read I was searching for.

“When some people look back on high school, they remember their sports teams or late night shenanigans with friends. I remember those too but mostly, I remember Aly. I remember my all time consuming crush on my best friend’s sister.”
This book was given to me as an advance reader copy. Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for giving the ARC to me in exchange for an honest review.
Dear Adam is a fun summer coastal brother’s best friend romance. Aly’s twin brother Adam heads out of town to California for work and to meet up with his best friend that he hasn’t seen in a decade (and who Aly has had a crush on forever). While Adam is gone, Aly is to watch his menace wiener dog, Pretzel. Then the unthinkable happens; Levi and Adam are involved in a serious car accident that has left Adam in a coma.
Adam is flown back home to South Carolina to be around family who are eagerly waiting for his return to consciousness. Aly is overwhelmed with grief and worry for her twin. She decides to begin texting her brother updates about her life and the goings on that he’s missed while in his coma. Little does she know, by some mix up, Levi has Adam’s phone. Levi’s long time crush on Aly gets the better of him and he continues to keep his phone and read Aly’s update texts. Levi ventures back home to South Carolina in order to reconnect and comfort Aly during this time as well as attempt to ease his own guilt regarding the accident.
We follow Aly and Levi to see if they can make their relationship work despite crazy stuck up parents, a meddlesome salesman with tiny feet, an assistant with no idea of personal space or privacy, a brother who would HATE they were together (if he were awake to know), and two very mischievous dogs.
This book was so fun and cute. It was an easy read; quick and fluffy. I was living for the Pretzel content! I laughed out loud several times and I thought that this was a really sweet story.
My only issues were that it seemed like Adam being in a coma was a little disconnected. To me, everyone just didn’t seem sad enough about it and it was almost forgotten at times.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and it kept me very interested!
Aly and Adam Bloomington, lifelong best friends and twins, were separated when Adam traveled to California, leaving his misbehaving dachshund, Pretzel, with Aly. During a FaceTime call with her twin, Aly was shocked to Adam’s best buddy in high school, Levi, whom she used to have a crush on. She wanted to reconnect with him. However, their lives took a tragic turn when Adam was involved in a devastating car accident and fell into a coma. Left without her closest friend and ally, Aly started to text Adam to keep him updated but faced a problem: Adam’s phone was missing.
If you love reading about childhood friend and brother’s best friend tropes, then this could be a book that would probably keep you engaged until the very last page. Whitney wrote a storyline that was both charming and memorable which I think was kind of unique in some ways. I have not read many books that included family drama, childhood friend, crushing on brother’s best friend, dogs, and awesome side characters, rolled into a near-perfect plot line. I was invested in Aly and Levi’s story throughout.
I just wished that Whitney gave a deeper insight of Aly and Adam’s mom for the readers. I just hope she explained why the twin’s mother acted differently when they were at home and at the last hospital scene with Aly. As a reader, I felt like it was a loose end that the author forgot to tie up. Nonetheless, many scenes felt like a springboard for a sequel and I am looking forward to that if there is any.
Another concern was some typographical errors in the copy that I was given access to. This could have been prevented from if this went through another round of proofreading.
Overall, the storyline and the characters made this novel one of a kind that I could forget about some areas this novel could improve on. I found myself enjoying every Aly-Levi encounter and intrigued by what Adam last said to Emma in the hospital which really solidified my hunch that there will be a book 2.
Though this book may not be something I would be rereading in a few months, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves easy reads but with an appealing and unique plot.

A really cute/fluffy romance book! I have broken down my review below, overall I would rate this 4 stars.
⭐️ It was a quick and fun read. Highly recommend to read it when you want an easy stress-free read!
⭐️ I loved the friendships and relationships in this book. Her best friend Emma was very supportive and her twin brother Adam was a massive support too.
⭐️ The main thing I would say is that the writing felt slightly amateur. I felt like certain things in the book were brushed over when they could have been developed more. However, it was written well and the storyline was really good.
⭐️ Levi was such a good character! I wish we could’ve had a bit more background to him, but overall I think he balanced Aly out perfectly.
Aly hasn’t seen Levi, her high school crush and coincidentally her brother’s best friend, in nearly 10 years. When her brother, Adam, visits Levi in California, she sees his even more handsome face via FaceTime and falls in love all over again. The unthinkable happens and Adam ends in a coma leaving Aly lost and terrified. She decides to send Adam messages for him read when he finally wakes up. But there’s one thing she doesn’t know. Levi has Adam’s phone.
Ah how I love a brother’s best friend romance. It’s slightly forbidden. It’s usually sneaky but in an adorable way. And this time it’s also a high school crush years later. I love it all.
Here’s what I liked:
dogs
brother’s best friend
Charleston
sweet and fun
Aly’s best friend
What I didn’t like:
the dog antics were a bit much even for me
loose ends (maybe there’s going to be a sequel?)
the parents are over-the-top awful
Overall, this book has a lot of things I really liked. If you enjoy dogs behaving badly and lots of swoon-worthy moments in a closed-door romance, this is definitely for you.
Thank you netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was really sweet. I usually don’t reach for clean romances, but I really enjoyed this one. The way the relationship built between Aly and Levi was so beautiful, and I thought Kelsey did a great job handling some real life situations. Overall, I totally recommend this cute lil read!
