Sisters Ellie and Meg Christie share a love of books, reading, and their new roles as co-caretakers of the Book Chalet, their family’s historic bookshop tucked midway up a scenic Colorado mountain. But romance? That’s another story. Meg’s blind date is a book-loving romantic straight out of classic literature. Meg is excited for a second date—until she’s stood up without a word. However, her date had a good reason for ghosting her: He’s dead. Murdered, the police later confirm and as the last known person to see the victim alive, Meg becomes a prime suspect. To sleuth out the truth, the sisters must sift through secrets deeper than the February snowfall. Clues accumulate, but so do suspects, crimes, and betrayals. Ellie and Meg can’t afford to leave any page unturned. After all there’s a murderer trying to write the final chapter of the sisters.
This is the second in the #christiebookshopmystery mystery series. I really liked the sisters, who have a hilarious banter between them. This book is even better than the first and I really liked the first one! I can’t wait to see what the sisters (and Agatha) get up to next!

Thank you Netgally and the publisher for an ARC of this book.
This was a delightful cozy mystery book. With cozy fantasy on the rise, I personally feel that people have forgotten about the cozy mystery genre. This book is your perfect cozy mystery and second in the series. Both the sisters and the cat were adorable and I love the town they are in, especially with how bookish they are.
Fun exciting cozy! This is the second book in the Christie Bookshop mystery series. Love the cat! Ellie and Meg use a dating service that their cousin has started. When Men's date is found dead the next day, she becomes the main suspect but there are several more including Megs ex. Witty dialogue between characters. Story moves smoothly. Can you figure out whodonit? Thanks #Netgalley and #RandomHousePublishing, #Ballantine for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.
I was granted a wish via NetGalley and was gifted the honor of reading Last Word to the Wise by Ann Claire.
Before I'd finished page one, I was already clicking my way to Amazon to purchase Dead and Gondola, the first book in the series.
Ellie and Meg Christie are sisters who are owners of The Book Chalet, a shop I'd love to visit.
Meg is a single mom, who's ex husband seeks out their child, and Meg becomes furious with him.
Ellie is mom to Agatha C. Christie, her cheeky four legged feline, who reminds me of our own cat.
Lorna, a cousin to the sisters, seems to believe she can make true love connections with a mutual love of books.
The only catch? She needs to use the sisters as guinea pigs, which sets the scene for murder, lies, cheating and deceit.
I was hooked on this book from the very beginning, snow storms, an evening walk to the library, a meet and greet with a deadly ending, and so much more fills the pages of this fantastic book.
Its not often that a book grabs my attention like this one did. The style of writing, the characters and their unique personalities, the humor, and the mystery itself sparked my interest from the beginning, and soon I was in Last Word, searching for clues while trying to put the story together.
I'm delighted to discover a new to me author, and I'm looking forward to reading the first book in the series.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting my wish to read an advanced copy of Last Word to the Wise.
I look forward to recommending it to other readers.
Thos was so amazing. I loved the first book in the series and thisbone definitely tops it!! If I was single I so would sign up for a dating program that bases my likes by my books! This was great and a great storyline.

Last Word to the Wise: A Christie Bookshop Mystery
by Ann Claire is a great cozy mystery that is the second book in this cute series.
This is such a fun and entertaining series set in Last Word, Colorado and involving the equally adorable Book Chalet. We get to hang out with the Christie sisters (Meg and Ellie). Of course their super cute (and creatively named cat) Agatha is also back for more.
I enjoyed the first book, Dead and Gondola, so I had to read the second book in the series. The backdrop of the picturesque mountains and the quaint village are a contrast to the murder/mystery with suspects, surprises, and unveilings that incorporate the main characters.
A family matchmaking/blind date situation develops into a murder, mystery, and subsequent investigation when Meg becomes a potential suspect. The investigation was fun, entertaining, and kept me interested.
I am really digging this series and looking forward to the next book.
5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine, Bantam for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication on 10/3/23.
Ellie and Meg are roped into a new dating service their cousin has started. While Ellie’s date is boorish and pompous, Meg’s seems to steal her heart. When the man is found dead the next day, Meg becomes a suspect and Ellie will do anything to save her sister and her family.
With several suspects, including Meg’s ex, it’s hard to figure out who didn’t want the man dead, but who actually did the deed. Now if only Ellie can clear Meg and keep herself in one piece this time.
The second entry in this fabulous series is just as awesome as the first. I was ecstatic to see the second book released and couldn’t wait to spend some more time in the Colorado mountains at the Book Chalet. Looking forward to more in this great series. If you haven’t read it yet? You’re missing out!
If you loved Dead and Gondola you will love this second book in the series! I had so much fun reading this witty and cozy mystery. Don’t worry it may be cozy but there are still twists and turns!
One of the highlight's of my last holiday season's reading was a debut called "Dead & Gondola", which I just adored! So happy that I was approved for the second outing, "Last Word to the Wise", featuring the Christie sisters, Meg & Ellie, and their kitty, Agatha Christie, in their small-town Colorado bookshop. This time there's still murder afoot, and one of the sister's is again a suspect as a dating scheme goes awry. This is such a sweet & cozy mystery series, and I'm down for the next installment. Highly recommend this series! My sincere thanks to the publisher & Net Galley for the complimentary DRC, it was a pleasure to review it.
To be honest I've only read a couple Agatha Christie mysteries. (I get that she's considered the classic mystery writer but I find her books dated with the stereotypes and casual racism.) But I picked up 1st Book in this Series - Dead and Gondola and loved it's Bookstore on a Mountain setting so I was excited to receive Advanced Readers Copy of Book 2 - Last Word to the Wise. Great cozy mystery full of book lovers, cats, and cocoa. So find a comfy chair and settle in.
Very cute cozy mystery. I love the links back to Agatha Christie, especially feline Agatha. I want to read the first book in the series now, and I hope the series continues on, especially with Detective Sam.
A wonderful new cozy mystery! I really loved and enjoyed this book! I'm hoping that the series continues on! I would greatly recommend this to new and younger generations who want to try out the cozy mystery genre. I will place this on my book club's reading list.
A great continuation of the only cozy mystery series I’ve liked in a long while. Glad to see the first one did well and that the series is continuing. For a “cozy” there’s less romance than other titles so if meet-cute keeps you away, this is one to try. There’s still romance, but it’s done very lightly. Highly enjoyed it.
Last Word to the Wise is a witty and cozy mystery. I felt intrigued and amused by the twists and turns!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!
4.5 Stars
This was a fun little cozy mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed how "bookish" the main characters and seemingly the whole town were. Loved both sisters, the cat Agatha C. Christie (cute little bookish name for a cat). I plan to read the previous book in this series. I would read more by this author.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting my wish for this ARC.
Review posted on Instagram today, and will post to Amazon on release day!
This was such a fun read. I loved the characters, the bookish aspect, and the Agatha Christie vibe. This was pure coziness.
