Earls rush in
Charlotte Chapman is trapped in a carriage in a snowstorm with her dead brother’s friend during a snowstorm. Lord Trevelyan has a reputation but nothing will stop him from rescuing Charlotte from her disastrous engagement. He promised his best friend that she and her sister would be looked after. Now, they’re stranded at a country inn—which has only one room left.
I really liked Haymore’s The Duke’s Rules of Engagement and this book sounded like it’d have to have all sorts of tropey goodness.
This is fine. Likable characters. Good pacing and predictable if melodramatic plot. The one bed trope was… disappointing. I love diversity rep in historicals, but there was a lot of diversity at one small country inn. Serious misses with how carriages and horses actually worked. Character arcs all okay. But these characters won’t stay with me the way Matthew and Jo did.
Miss Charlotte Chapman is known as ‘the sunshine’ of the ton. She must find a husband to ensure her and her younger sister’s future. Charlotte finds herself abducted by her deceased brother’s best friend during a snowstorm. They are forced to take shelter at a country tavern, where he reveals the ugly truth about her soon-to-be fiancé. Charlotte realizes that Finn is not the blackguard society paints him to be. Can Charlotte put her trust in Finn?
Finneas “Finn” Jones, the Earl of Trevelyan does not fit society’s definition of an aristocrat. He has promised to look after his late friend’s two sisters. When he learns of Charlotte’s engagement, Finn rushes to keep her from making a momentous mistake. An upended carriage during a snowstorm strands them at a small tavern. Finn tries to protect her from the secrets he harbors. Will those secrets cause him to lose Charlotte forever?
Charlotte surprised me in a good way. On the surface she plays the role that society expects of her. Charlotte wisely keeps her thoughts, views, and opinions to herself. I admire the noble sacrifices she is willing to make for her sister’s sake. She wants to give her sibling the future she deserves benefiting their station. What I adore the most about Charlotte is how she is not afraid to do menial work. Most women of her status would balk at helping the working class.
Finn easily won my affection. How could I not? The man is virtually a teddy bear! He is often misunderstood because of his appearance, and he does not correct others’ misconceptions. Finn’s aloof demeanor hides a soft and kind-hearted nature. What I adore the most about Finn is how he differs from the rest of his peers. He has no interest in society’s activities and functions. Instead, Finn prefers to help those less fortunate. He is not afraid to lend them a hand or work alongside them.
EARLS RUSH IN is a standalone historical romance by Jennifer Haymore. T The story’s premise, along with the grumpy/sunshine trope, is what drew my interest. Wowza, it did not disappoint! I found myself swept up by the characters, their history, and the plot. I honestly could not put the book down. I finished it in two settings.
Earls Rush In by Jennifer Haymore is such a fun read. This book was one of the best historical romance I've read this year. The attraction between Finn and Charlotte are so sweet and intense. We can feel the sexual tension between them. This book got a heart fluttering sweet historical romance, a little of drama with the marriage proposal, a great supporting character that's help the lead character in finding their love and a little of sad heartbreaking truth.
This story begin when Finn and Charlotte stranded at a country inn after their carriage stuck in the blizzard. Although, Charlotte quite certain that she been kidnapped by the earl without no explanation. Finn with a promise to keep, will do everything in his hands to stop Charlotte from disastrous engagement. However, the blizzard and only one room left, the simmering desire are hard to push.
I'll definitely be reading more from Jennifer Haymore. Perhaps, we will be able to read about Celine and Ridge.
Thank you to Netgalley, and thank you to the author and to the publishers for an E-galley of this book. I will ALWAYS die for a good Forced Proximity book. The Earls rush in, is no different. The earl wishes to save the Damsel from a hideous mistake of a potential engagement, and whoops gets stuck with her during a snowstorm. Oh, and to make it better there's only one room at the inn. So things get fun and steamy. Check this book out on May 8th! Star Rating 3.9
When I read The Duke's Rules of Engagement by this same author last year, I was bowled over by how much I loved it and also a bit surprised that more people weren't reading it! Haymore has an extremely approachable and smooth style of writing, and makes great use of classic tropes to weave an engaging story.
Earls Rush In is no different.
WHAT I LIKED - I adored the pacing of the book. We are thrust right in to the thick of the plot, and the pacing is maintained throughout the book. I enjoyed the use of the Only-One-Room trope as well!
WHAT I LOVED - Finn. Need I say more? A gruff, barely civilised hero who has been in love with the heroine for ages and ages and pines for her ceaselessly...DREAMBOAT. GIVE US MORE FINNS. Charlotte was also a really great character, a very real woman stuck in an impossible situation (in a bed with a hot man. Oh, and also she has no money and is about to be thrown out of the only home she has ever known. But the former is harder. Pun intended.)
I've been in the midst of an unfortunate reading slump for the past few months, but this book penetrated through the fog in my head easily. I had a great time reading it.
My heartfelt thanks to the author, the publishers and NetGalley!
I found the first half of the novel interesting, then the dynamic between the two main characters changed, and unfortunately all the pathos of the mystery surrounding the death of Charlotte's brother and its causes became a bit heavy, and with that the continuation of the reading.
I love when a grumpy hero finds his sunshine! Especially when that grumpy hero is protective and friends with the heroine's brother! This was a cute story. Nothing memorable or stand out. Enjoyable though. I wish the character's backstories were fleshed out a little more. It would make their coming together more satisfying. Lots of characters were introduced, and I'm looking forward to their stories!
Good deeds gone wrong!
How to stop you’re best friend’s sister from making a serious mistake in marrying the wrong man?
Kidnap her of course! Not that Finneas Jones, the Earl oh Trevelyn (Finn) had magically divined that they’d be driving through snow, end up in an overturned carriage, and would seek shelter an inn with only one bedroom! Far from the truth!
Charlotte Chapman had only until the tenth of March before her uncle and his wife threw her and her sister Celine out. Charlotte’s uncle had been the next in line to the barony after her brother Christopher. When Chris was killed the girls were not welcome. They were given two years by their uncle and aunt to find a solution. Time was up!
Finn has become somewhat reclusive since Christopher’s death. They’d been friends since school. For all sorts of reasons Christopher’s death had hit him hard. However he’s now come out of his comfort zone to help Charlotte, even if things don’t go as planned.
Younger sister Celine is having trouble trying to understand why Charlotte would balk at marrying Mr Bagshaw. We know he’s a slimy, self serving, repulsive blackguard. I regret to say that Celine came across as a somewhat self centred, uncaring and petulant being. Miraculously she’d turned around by the end of the story. Thank goodness!
Things came together finally even though Finn feels totally responsible for a whole gambit of things not his fault.
A quick read, if a tad melodramatic.
An Entangled ARC via NetGalley.
Many thanks to the author and publisher.

Finneas Jones, the reclusive Earl of Trevelyan kidnaps his deceased best friend's sister, Miss Charlotte Chapman, in order to keep her from accepting an intolerable marriage proposal. Thanks to a carriage crash, they’re stranded at a country inn with only one room available. He promised his best friend that his sister would be looked after, but is she safe from his affections...?
I liked the first half of this book, but not the second. It started well, but I grew frustrated that Finn wouldn't talk to Charlotte honestly, about both his feelings and the whole truth about her brother and her would-be fiancé. (2.5 stars rounded to 3)
Tropes: Brother's Best Friend, Kidnapped, Road Trip, One Room at the Inn

* I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
Finneas Jones, Earl of Trevelyan, is known as a coarse, reclusive beast. When his best friend died fighting a duel, he vowed to protect the man’s sisters. Since that faithful day, the guilt and secrets have been eating him alive. One of those secrets being that he has been in love with the same woman for years.
Miss Charlotte Chapman has to marry, and soon, or she and her sister might find themselves in dire straits indeed. So when she accepted a perfectly acceptable offer, she never expected to find herself kidnapped. Let alone, by her dear brother’s best friend! What does the boorish brute want with her? He doesn’t even like her!
When a snowstorm hits and their carriage gets stuck, they’re forced to seek shelter in a quaint country inn with (obviously) only one room left. Forced to play the married couple, she soon discovers he’s nothing like she imagined. He’s an enigma and so much more…
📚 This book was exactly what I expected it to be: not terribly original, but oh so much wonderful fun! It’s captivating, colourful, tender & sweet with a pinch of dark & ugly. All the characters are just right, the plot works to a tee and there is no excess.
I loved it and I really hope this turns into a series!
📚 Brother’s best friend, grumpy/sunshine, “I will burn the world” pining hero, road trip, only one room left, steamy, open door
Thank you to Jennifer Haymore, Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for this eARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
cute story. I enjoyed the characters though charlotte could be annoying at times as was her sister. a little high in step. finn was sweet. a lot mystery about his purpose in the beginning to keep the intrigue.
This was exactly what I needed! The author takes you into the setting of the historical London Social Season with ease and beauty. I love the romance, the scandal, the plot… Awesome book!
⭐️ 4/5

💭Thoughts:
I’m fairly new to historical romance but this book hit all the right buttons for me. After hearing his best friends sister, Charlotte, is engaged to his childhood enemy, Finn takes off to stop Charlotte from marrying him by any means possible. So he kidnaps her. All the while Charlotte is trying to protect her younger sister, get answers about her brothers death, and find a husband.
This book was a roller coaster in the best way. There were twists, turns and suspense which I normally don’t care for, but it worked in this book.
Charlotte is pragmatic and intelligent, and a great example of what a woman at that time would be up against. She cares deeply for her sister Celine, and she is resilient, while all the men assume she is going to fall apart she stays strong and keeps her head.
Finn is the textbook definition of a tortured hero. His background really shaped who he was as a man and why he acts and makes the decisions he does. He doesn’t feel he deserves anything good which makes him a bit of a standoffish grump. But inside the man is jello.
I throughly enjoyed the book, plot and characters, and will be reading more of this author!
3.25/5. Releases 5/8/2023.
For when you're vibing with... brother's best friend, a seemingly scary dude who is actually soft, light kidnapping, THERE WAS ONLY ONE BED, and a bit of a snowed-in romance.
I grabbed this book on a whim because of the description: the heroine is set to marry a loser, and her dead brother's best friend (an apparently scary guy) is all "this WILL NOT STAND" and kidnaps her, after which they get stuck at an inn together. I enjoy a brother's best friend moment, and I like scary dudes. While the writing is definitely good with this one--it's charming, the tension and sex itself is well-done--I feel like Haymore cut herself short a little bit by letting us know a bit too soon... he ain't all that bad!
Quick Takes:
--As I said above, I did like the writing, and I will read another book by Haymore to see if something with higher stakes works for me. At the end of the day, this is a pretty short book, and it's very classic historical romance. They're stranded, they're pretending to be husband and wife, there are charming strangers who can tell that these two are a) not actually married and b) desperate to bone. If you want something quick and button-pressing and low-conflict, then this is for you.
--For me, though, the thing that would've taken it to a 4/5 is the hero, Finn, being a bit more... intimidating. Like. He's a romance hero, this is not in any way billed as a dark romance, I didn't expect him to be horrible to her and didn't want him to be. But he's literally introduced saving a couple of random children, and the heroine's reasons for being worried about him are so vague. Like, there are rumors that he had something to do with her brother's death, but it's not very specific, and again, we are introduced to him as a saver of children, it's all very cut and dry. He's also not even very gruff with her. I could've used some gruffness! He clearly is desperately into her, so let him channel that pent-up desire into a bit of snappishness, maybe. Something to make me feel like there is a bump in the road they have to get over.
--He does wake up so hard that he almost "moans in pain", though, and I did love that. But again, he thinks about jerking it while she's away and is like "I can't do that, what if she walks in". Yeah, WHAT IF? That would actually be super fun! I think that sums up my main issue: there's dancing around some legitimately exciting stuff, but it goes for the cozy instead. And I guess I'm not super into cozy, which is my thing.
--Again, a lot of cute stuff does happen, but if you're gonna sell me on him being something of a beast, I need that beastliness to exist before it's totally tamed.
--All that said--yes, it's a cute book. Yes, I enjoyed it; yes, I would try more from this author. It just felt like some potential was wasted here.
The Sex Stuff:
It's good! Nothing crazy, again the book is quick and she's a virgin. He's very guilty about doing sex stuff to her, and there is one too many near miss moments where it's like "my God, just put it in", but I could've perhaps felt that way because I wanted him to ACT in general.
The right book for cozy readers, definitely, with a bit of mystery punched in there. It just might've erred too far on the side of cozy.
Thanks to Netgalley and Entangled for providing me with a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I thought that I had read almost every Historical Romance author and could recognize any trope but Earls Rush In was new for me. I found it a nearly perfect blend of mystery and romance. The characters were strong and the chemistry between them evident with some restraint, as was then protocol in Regency times. Charlotte had the kind of strength that was quiet and dignified. Finn was, in my mind, the perfect man; 'strong like bull', sensitive, intelligent, and kind. Dare I mention the passion? It saved both characters from appearing namby pamby.
The plot was rich with innuendo that kept this reader engaged. Earls Rush In reminded me that anticipation is part of the reward!
All of that being said, the fifth star would have been applied had the minutiae not been so drawn out. Perhaps another Jennifer Haymore book is in order? I will certainly give her books another try!
This book gave me everything it advertised: an Earl kidnaps a young lady, attempts to “save” her from a doomed engagement, and then proceeds to be stranded with her in an inn in the snow? YES PLEASE. I’m so glad I picked up this Jennifer Haymore because it was just the fun escapism I needed. Miss Charlotte Chapman was a favorite of the ton until she found herself losing her rank due to her brother’s death and in much need of a husband to (as her younger sister Celine would say) “keep her out of the poorhouse”. But Charlotte does not know the truth about the identity of her (almost) betrothed and who better than her brother’s best friend, the very virile Earl of Trevelyan to capture her and save her from this marriage? And when their carriage becomes trapped in a snowbank in the middle of a blizzard, Charlotte and Finn are forced to act as a married couple in order to prevent her from scandalous ruin and obtain a room at a country inn. Earls Rush In checked all the boxes. It was sweet, steamy, and gave me a villain I love to hate. At 250 pages it was the perfect length and there was never a plot line that felt unnecessary to the story. I wouldn’t say this story breaks any romance barriers, but it was just delightfully engaging and I found myself loving both Charlotte and Finn. I can easily see where Ridgemont or even Celine might get their own story, and I would love to revisit this world. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for this ARC.
It was a nice and cute read, but unfortunately, nothing more.
I think the drama was a bit too much, and it got really boring after a while. It felt like a 600 pages book.
She was so swift to be okay with being compromised, but unfortunately, I think they lacked any passion.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
